news Big Stuntz' "Hustl'in" Gains A Fan Base...In A Week - January 31, 2006 By : Rud

Under a week ago we premiered music from a new artist from Long Beach, CA called Big Stuntz. As we explained in the previous update Big Stuntz is a solo artist with a different edge from the Northside of the LBC. At 25 he is young and hungry - working hard as part of the New West movement. If you missed the update on Big Stuntz then check our archives to learn more.

Since we posted the update and his material we have had nothing but positive feedback on his work, as a result he has allowed us to drop more than an album's worth of material on him!

We have 13 new tracks from him which include material from various mixtapes he has been putting out (the "Plaid" series) as well as fresh new music recorded this week from the Hustlin Hard & Green Up Entertainment camps; with collaborations from Dangerous Goodz, Vee Tha Hustler and Roccett who has his own mixtape currently buzzing in the streets.

With such an abundance of new music i appreciate you may not want to listen to it all however i urge you to - there is a mix of subject matter, styles and blatant talent on these tracks, such good music deserves to be heard. So fans; download it and burn it, DJ's; download it and spin it, Radio; download it and play it and A&R's; download it and pay attention. There is untapped talent waiting to get deals all over the westcoast, this is not a coast with no direction, no varying content and no talent; this is a coast aiming to escape the stigma of its past years and get its voice heard - listen.

Enough of that and on with the music, below are the links to all the tracks Big Stuntz has sent us to premiere. Take some time and listen to them at your leisure however i urge you having done so to drop your thoughts over at the forum. As ever we will have more news and audio from Big Stuntz over the coming months.

Long Beach born and bred, Colorado living, Bay Area grinding... Just a few ways to describe a talented emcee like Mr. Midas. He's been able to make his name on the Independent scene for the past few years and it's now paying off. Since getting down with the Bay Area based label FloMasters Inc, Midas has been rocking shows and has rocked tracks with hot up and comers Mistah F.A.B. and Clyde Carson.

You can catch Midas out in L.A. this weekend for the Grammy's with the FloMasters, as well as in Houston over All-Star Weekend. We've been featuring Midas on the site for a while now and it feels real good to see dude taking off like this. news Dilated Peoples Clear Eyes & Finalise "20/20" Release - January 28, 2006 By : Rud

With Tuesday, February 21 2006 already looming i'm back with the new Dilated Peoples album cover, tracklist and a link to the album sampler. The trio’s first three albums - 2000’s The Platform, 2001’s Expansion Team and 2004’s Neighborhood Watch may be a distant memory to some however over the years they have been hailed as exemplary examples of quality hip-hop. After enjoying the biggest radio and television exposure of their career with the 2004 hit "This Way," produced by and featuring Kanye West, Dilated Peoples have opted to make a point that they had a clear vision for their music, hence the title for the new album, "20/20":

"We’ve done a lot of experimentation, worked with a lot of different people and tried a lot of different things. With this record, we wanted to really get back to a real, uncut pure vision and get back to the pure, boom-bap sound that really made us all get together as people and want to make music together," Rakaa explains.

Last year dubcnn premiered the lead single "Back Again" which sees DJ Babu (also a member of the World Famous Beat Junkies) accenting the thumping cut with his precision scratching while both Evidence and Rakaa update their fans on their musical agenda and highlight their dedication to the art of rhyme. Evidence explained: "In today’s rap game, people are worried about whether or not I’m making money, but it’s not glorified that I’m writing my own rhymes or making my vision clear; I just felt it was a bold statement and needed to be said."

Other tracks on the album include "Alarm Clock Music," where the crew get across equally thought-provoking rhymes over a powerful, keyboard and scratch-propelled beat. Rakaa said: "We named the song ‘Alarm Clock Music’ because it is supposed to wake people up. We wanted the beat and those cuts to come across like that. Lyrically, the third verse in particular had to do with conflict, whether it’s on the block or nation to nation. It doesn’t matter if it’s across the street or across the world because they’re very closely related. The song itself is a wake-up call."

"You Can’t Hide, You Can’t Run," is a cut where the group raps about making the best of a bad situation: "Life is going to come at you regardless," Rakaa says. "It doesn’t mean you can’t flip lemons to lemonade and lemonade to Minute Made. You can make the best of a bad situation and I think it’s more necessary than ever. There’s no shortage of nonsense coming at you because it’s a crazy world right now."

Dilated Peoples then get aggressive on the confrontational "Kindness For Weakness" before teaming up with reggae king Capleton on the pounding, politically charged "Firepower (The Tables Have To Turn)." Elsewhere Evidence highlights his lyrical acuity on the intense "Another Sound Mission" and DJ Babu showcases his superior turntable and production skills on the scratch-heavy "The One And Only."

The beats on the album come from Alchemist, Evidence, Joey Chavez and Bravo and DJ Babu and are among the most forceful of Dilated People’s career. The group made a point to feature intense production on "20/20," something that makes the album an exciting aural experience that will translate well to the group’s highly regarded stage shows. DJ Babu explains: "We said to ourselves, ‘The energy levels have to be up, a big part of our group is performance. Another way of looking at the songs that we make for the record is things that we’re adding to our live show. That’s another side of us that fans really love us for, having music that translates well onto stage. Rakaa put it well when said, ‘A lot times when we’re in the studio we try to capture the energy that happens on stage.'"

Evidence wrapped up by explaining: "20/20, the whole album was made on a 12" mentality, we weren’t worried about the whole album, how it was going to connect and if we had two love songs and one party song. We just banged it out. We put the record together two or three days before the end of it. We didn’t sit and ride with it. We had it and knew where we were going, but it was more about the individual tunes. There was no questioning ourselves. It was just about making music."

As ever dubcnn has the audio we have already premiered over the past few months for those who missed to check and as we recently featured the new Dilated Peoples video as "Video of the Week" i have that for you all again too. news Big Stuntz Is "Hustl'in Hard" In The LBC - January 26, 2006 By : Rud

Back in Long Beach again today for another update; this time on a solo artist with a different edge from the Northside. The man in question is Big Stuntz, an artist aiming to add another dimension to the game; and if this initial music is a sign of what is to come then i expect good things from this talented individual. Terrance K. Grayson is the government name behind the artist known as Big Stuntz. Born on May 27, 1980 he began his musical journey at the age of nine when he learned how to play the drums. His love for hip-hop spawned from hearing a mixtape featuring Kool G. Rap and that love and passion quickly increased over the years.

While attending Junior High School Big Stuntz formed a group with partner and friend, THUMZ-UP. This group was known as The Odd and in 2000 they released an independent LP titled "The Odditorium" which by word of mouth and street buzz alone moved over 4000 units.

Since then Big Stuntz has performed in the company of such artists as Snoop Dogg, Mista Cheeks, Avant, The Boo-Ya Tribe, Bad Azz, Daz Dillinger and Kurupt as well as being honoured with having 3 songs featured on the soundtrack for the original TNT Movie "Bad Apple."

With 2006 already in full swing Big Stuntz hit up dubcnn to help further his aim and exposure within the Hip-Hop Community. With distribution of his own mixtapes, food drives in the local community and via spreading the word of his music and talent he plans to take over; all from the back of his ice cream truck. As ever we have audio so you can check out Big Stuntz and I urge you to do so. We have two original tracks which feature Jeez and another mixtape track with Nate Dogg which features the beat and hook from Guerilla Black's debut album. Please take some time to listen to the music and drop feedback over at our forum. We will have more news and audio from Big Stuntz over the coming months.

news "Dangerous Goodz" Found In Long Beach - January 26, 2006 By : Rud

Emerging out of Long Beach California comes a duo with an existing buzz and a hunger for more. Dangerous Goodz were introduced to me last year by a good friend of mine at Songbuz Magazine and i did a small article on the album and premiered a track off their debut album, "Change Gone Come". Since then the group have had the streets of L.A. buzzing and successfully pushed thousands of units out the back of the truck. The duo compises of Qwest (Earl Siler) and Outwest (Jonathan Grier) who both grew up on hip-hop listening to a collective of artists such as Run DMC, N.W.A., L.L. Cool J, Ice Cube, Big Daddy Kane, EPMD & Ice T.

This love of music dug deeper than the average listener, from early on they they learned to appreciate music regardless of which coast it was coming from.

The two met upon entering 5th grade and as ever at that age a friendship developed which over time has formed into a long-term friendship that has seen out many years. In that time the pair have partaken in the various elements of hip-hop such as break-dancing & free-styling. From the outset the love of the lifestyle and culture had the two convinced of their career calling; music. Soon they got together during recess to battle one another for what they called, "King of the School." Elementary soon became Junior High and later High School; as the two grew closer the rhymes grew doper. A decade on and several groups later the pair formed Dangerous Goodz in 2003. The process of recording their debut album "Change Gone Come," saw them rack up 46 songs giving them the chance to select the best material. 22 tracks made the cut and the album was borne. With production from Space Age, Wutzhiznayme, Tony Bravoe & Quake they managed to create a sound that put them in a niche. Since the album release the group has had the pleasure to perform in the company of various well known, established artists such as Snoop Dogg, Too Short, Mausberg & Tyrese Gibson to name a few. As if that wasn't enough they have also had their music featured in movies including "Bank Brothers," & "I Accidentally Domed Your Son."

With all that packed into a busy 2005 the duo have now set their sights on an even more successful 2006 and have allowed us to release three tracks from their debut for you the readers to enjoy. Please take some time to listen to the music and drop feedback over at our forum. We will have more news and audio from the duo over the coming months.

The final CD will have 20-22 tracks, so if you got yourself a bootleg copy, make sure to go out there and purchase the CD when it drops as well!
Suga Free went and holla'd at the Bigg Boss Dogg, Snoop Dogg himself to join him on the first single called "So Fly", a super smooth joint produced by Freeze. There's also a remix to the track produced by Mannie Fresh.

I have both versions here for ya'll to listen to below:

Suga Free - So Fly (ft. Snoop Dogg) (Produced by Freeze)

Suga Free - So Fly (ft. Snoop Dogg) (Remix) (Produced by Mannie Fresh)

Another very anticipated track off the album is the DJ Quik diss called "New Thangz, Your Thru". I have heard the song and gotta say that Free didn't hold back. It's not senseless cussing out and dissing, Free explains his side of the story over a once again, very fly beat.

The production on "Just Add Water" was handled by Big Saccs & Bumpus, J Steez, Freeze, J Classic and Poochie Ross. Guest features include Snoop Dogg, Kokane, Knoc'Turnal, Lil Half Head and Marlon, who's smash hit "Happy" was included on the album due to high demand.

news From Trilogy To Gunslingers... This Is O.Brown! - January 26, 2006 By : SGV

"L to the O to the S to the A to the N to the G to the E to the L to the E to the S, CA come around here homie, come and see how we play!" - B-Real

Back in 1996, West L.A. emcee O.Brown started a group called Trilogy with his cousin N.E.V., and Javie Lopez (Whom we've featured on here many times). After making a number of tracks and doing a string of shows in the L.A. area, suddenly N.E.V. decided to leave the group for personal reasons. O.Brown and Javie Lopez then brought along Bernard Williams aka Kaos, leading things for Trilogy to go in the right direction. In 2003, the whole world stopped. Kaos had passed away at the young age of 29.

Two years after the death of his partner in rhyme, O.Brown has completed his debut album, “Day In A Life,” on Sen Dog Cypress Hill's label, LatinThugRecords.com. The Album will be in stores in the Summer of 2006, featuring production from B-Real and Kriv. His lyrics are described as "filled with feeling, his love for the game and the loss of his best friend." Although, O.Brown holds Mellow Man Ace and B-Real of Cypress Hill as his main influences on the mic, he was stays deeply in touch with his roots. Though, born and raised in South Central, his Father being from Belize, introduced him to Reggae music at a young age. This has been a huge influence to his Hip Hop style. His Mother, from Mexico, is where he get's his Latin vibes.

You may have heard the emcee on B Real’s Gunslinger Mixtape, on "Never Back Down" which also featured Mellow Man Ace. His debut single is ready to set the West Coast on fire. Entitled “Los Angeles,” and featuring a hot B-Real hook and verse, with the beat being provided by XL, it's sure to be a West Coast anthem for 2006. Look out for the Remix with Carson's newest hope, the Aftermath signee, Bishop Lamont. Look for O.Brown's collab with songstress MiMi as well.

We have both the song AND video for your eyes and ears to enjoy. Check those out below!

Huge shouts to O.Brown!

news The I.E. Points Us Towards Bigg North - January 19, 2006 By : Rud

You getting fed up? Fed up of what? New music and new talent straight out of the I.E.? Didn't think so; we're back to drop some audio from an artist and producer who has been working hard over a long period of time and as ever dubcnn unveils that talent to the world. Bigg North is no newcomer to the Hip-Hop scene, he has produced tracks for a number of established Hip-Hop and R&B acts and as well ask being able to lace tracks behind the boards he also takes time in the booth and with the pen. Bigg North has already worked with a plethora of artists and is gearing up to release his debut album, "Tha Nu Left Coast."

"The title really explains what my album is gonna sound like. I'm not gangsta, but i can get gangsta if you really wanna trip. And I'm not quite a backpacker. My sound is kind of a blend of the two. When you hear The Game or Sly Boogy, Bishop Lamont or myself, we are the new sound of the West Coast. It's gonna sound a little different. The flow, the tracks we rhyme on and everything. We are the new left coast." North explains.

He has already recorded enough material to release the album however he is working to make it the best it can be and so is still in the studio adding to the potential cuts. Artists already set to appear on "Tha Nu Left Coast" include Young Bleed, Sly Boogy, Kokane, Coniyak of Doggy's Angels, the multi-platinum selling R&B group NEXT, Lifestyle and Bishop Lamont amongst others. North has already stated "I want every song to sound like it's a single," and thus far North is doing just that. The street single which we have for exclusive download is the albums title track, "Tha Nu Left Coast" and features Sly Boogy and the group Lifestyle. It is another example of what the new westcoast has to offer and finds all the artists shining individually creating a great collective piece of music.

The album will allow Bigg North to display his versatility, both behind the boards and in the booth. There is a smoothness that the ladies will appreciate with the sincere "Natural High" which features Hip-Hop veteran Kokane, while the club slap, "Pop That Thang" will not dissapoint the crowds. You can find a spanish guitar influenced track when you hear the cut "Badd Chick" which finds Sly Boogy and NEXT on top form. Other notable tracks from the yet to be finalised release include an ode to children and parents who are taking care of their responsibilities titled "Tha Parenthood" and the rough street anthem "Mastermind.". Bigg North is setting out his stall early within the Hip-Hop community aiming to be around for the long haul.

Take some time to visit his My Space Page to learn more about Bigg North however expect dubcnn to cover lots more news on North and his work. Check out the new track below and drop over to the forum to leave feedback.

news Snoop Dogg Concert Review in Orlando Sentinel - January 19, 2006 By : Lil Jay

This past Sunday night Snoop Dogg visited the House of Blues here in Orlando,Fl. for the 3rd time in 4 years, unfortunately dubcnn.com couldn't make the show, so I decided to post the review that Orlando Sentinel's Jim Abbott wrote. *enjoy*

Jim Abbott | Sentinel Pop Music Critic

How time flies.

It seems like only yesterday when I was waiting for Snoop Dogg to take the stage at House of Blues in 2005. Waiting and waiting and waiting . . .

Snoop, who apparently operates on Paris Hilton time, took that stage after 1 a.m. last February, reportedly sprinting to the hall past a crowd of disgruntled fans lined up for refunds at the box office.

So the biggest question about the rapper's return visit to HOB on Sunday wasn't about the show, but about when he might show. Word was that Snoop wouldn't be paid if he started after 11.

Fortunately, there was additional information that Snoop actually was in Orlando, unlike last year, when he apparently spent part of the evening traveling here from Jacksonville.

Still, it was surprising when he sauntered into the spotlight only a little more than an hour after the final opening act -- and well-ahead of his paycheck deadline. Like last year, he made it well-worth the wait.

Dressed casually in dark sweats and never relinquishing his rhinestone-encrusted microphone, Snoop commanded attention without breaking a sweat. It's the combined strength of his charisma and the relentless beats that makes the show compelling, even when there aren't many surprises:

On Sunday, as in previous stops, Snoop touched on a few hits, such as a funky "Beautiful,'' and went old-school for a rowdy sing-along to "Gin and Juice.'' He praised Tupac and easily coaxed the crowd to thrust middle fingers in the air and wave them around as if they didn't care.

He talked about sex and weed, although he didn't partake in any of the joints tossed to him by the crowd, whining that he "wasn't allowed to smoke.'' Apparently, there were no such constraints on the audience, because Snoop tossed a joint into the front row and encouraged everyone to pass it around.

Even without a band in tow this time, the songs were unleashed with power and precision that benefited from a remarkably clear sound mix. Musically, it was one of the Snoop's best performances here in recent memory.

Before the main attraction, the Full Impact All-Starz, an array of emerging acts, set the tone with short, energetic sets. Orlando-based Treal bolstered its rhyme-spitting with an impressive sense of rowdiness.

Snoop, meanwhile, unleashes his energy much more carefully, whether it was twisting his lanky limbs with rubbery ease or delivering a short monologue in his own signature slang.

Whatever he does, whenever he arrives to do it, the result is still a party -- fo' shizzle.
