 XL Middleton Found His Tapes Back! - December 30, 2006 By : Zuka
 Though he just released his last LP in September 2006, Pasadena, CA, native XL Middleton is already back with another full-length solo disc, "The Lost Tapes". This project will include some of XL's unreleased material, but in addition to that, "The Lost Tapes" contains several brand-new tracks recorded just for this album! As XL himself said simply, "It's just hard to stay out of the lab." Set for a February 7th, 2007 release date, two singles have already been leaked. The first, "Wonderful Day" (feat. Clinton Wayne & MP), is a slow, introspective track about overcoming life's obstacles and fighting one's own inner demons, a conceptual record the likes of which have not been seen in today's commercialized hip hop marketplace for some time now. The second single, "Coast Wit Me" (feat. Mista Mil), is a bouncy record with a tropical feel to it, a perfect song for those who like to party and indulge without the elitist excesses of nightclub life.

Drastik & Meech Wells Prepare To Storm 2007 - December 30, 2006 By : Rud
 Earlier this year Drastik and Nudlez released the acclaimed "Blood Cuzins" mixtape with DJ Warrior under the group name Tha Boondocks. The mixtape as a hit on the streets and generated a buzz online resulting in a feature right here on dubcnn.
Since then we have been keeping tabs on the duo and today are proud to have some exclusive music from one member of that team, Drastik. Many may remember we mentioned that Drastik aligned with Meech Wells to record new material for an upcoming mixtape/street album that is set to drop in 2007.
 We have the first tracks to emerge from the sessions with Drastik and Meech Wells that are currently planned to emerge on the release next year. The first is called "Ghetto Boy" which once again flips the Donny Hathaway record "Little Ghetto Boy" from 1972; produced by Tha Streetrunners at the In A Zone studios. Rest assured Drastik murders this beat.

Exclusive Interview With Bosko - December 28, 2006 By : Rud
 As we announced a few days ago, Dubcnn sat down with superproducer Bosko for an exclusive interview. The Portland native has been making noise this year with his production on various albums such as E-40's "My Ghetto Report Card", and most recently Kevin Federline's debut album "Playing With Fire".
The multi-talented maestro produced and performed on a couple of songs on the album, including K-Fed's first single "Privilege". We talk to Bosko about working with Federline and how the connection came about.
We also discuss his work on E-40's last album and the upcoming 40 record dropping next year, hooking up with Kanye West and how he introduced Kanye to E-40. We proceed to talk about the major and the independent game, new projects at Jus Family Records as well as Bosko's upcoming solo album.

 Dubcnn introduced a young talent by the name of Sene back in February of this year. We are closing out 2006 with another update and some exclusive audio. Sene has been grindin the independent circuit this year, and is being featured on an upcoming Paris Soul Groove release, "Atlantic Connection All Stars" , on songs featuring Sean Price, Prince Po, and Shabbam Saadiq with production by Clutch Player. Additionally, he has also been collaborating with a team of producers to finish off his debut project, "The Scholarship", most notably a producer out of Switzerland by the name of Chief (Feelin Music). Sene and DJ Subculture are also opening up for Planet Asia (Cali Agents) and Prince Po (Organized Konfusion) at Zen Sushi on December 29, 2006, so please be sure to make it out to that show (2609 Hyperion Ave, Los Angeles).

James Brown Rest In Peace - December 25, 2006 By : Nima
 We regret having to bring such sad news on Christmas day, but the "Godfather Of Soul" James Brown passed away early today at a hospital in Atlanta, where he was hospitalized with pneumonia on Sunday, at the age of 73.
We have just lost one of the biggest figures and icons of music. Without James Brown, Hip-Hop would be nowhere near where it is today. The amount of samples that were used from James Brown songs, and the influence he had on the artists is unbelievable. Throughout his career, he's had 98 entries on Billboard’s top 40 R&B singles chart, a record unsurpassed by any other artist. Seventeen of these hits also reached number one.

Exclusive New Music From Dirty Birdy - December 25, 2006 By : Lil Jay
 We introduced you to Switzerland's up & coming producer DBM in October by presenting a song from his recently released project. We're talking about the collaboration with Young Maylay called "Street Chadda" [see: Young Maylay Got That "Street Chadda"]. The song got a lot of good response, thanks to the dope production and Maylay's flawless performance.
Today we bring you another track from the producer's bilingual project. This time DBM hooked up with the I.E. mic ripper Dirty Birdy. This song is another standout track from the album. Again we got a well produced song combined with Birdy showcasing his MC skills by spitting bar after bar, straight, with no hook. This is the result of an MC recording after a stressful day.

E-40 And Kanye West Connect For Another Round - December 25, 2006 By : Lil Jay
 2006 was one of the most successful years for E-40. The ambassador of the Bay Area was able to cross over to a new audience with his album "My Ghetto Report Card", even though he's not a rapper with traditional style that everyone can get into. Lil' Jon, the album's executive producer (who also laced the majority of the beats), gave 40 an opportunity to reach new horizons. E-40 accomplished that while he still kept his longtime fanbase happy. The album's sound was also influenced by other talented producers such as Droop-E, Rick Rock, and Bosko.
The latter of the three producers recently revealed to Dubcnn that he linked up with Fonzarelli again for 40's next album, which is scheduled to come out in 2007. Bosko also told us that E-40 already completed a few songs for the new album, one of them featuring Kanye West. That's right, 40 and Kanye connected for another round, after they hooked up for the Remix of "Tell Me When To Go" earlier this year. The song is called "Get Deleted" and it was produced by Kanye himself with Bosko singing on the hook.
Many people don't know, but Bosko was actually the person who introduced Kanye to E-40 after they collaborated on Kanye West's "Workout Plan". Kanye was already a big E-40 fan, and it was a coincidence that E-40 happened to be in town at that time.

Belly Shoots Video for "Pressure" - December 20, 2006 By : Adon
 Just in time for the holidays the biggest and most anticipated videos in Canada is here for Belly's Top 20 debut "Pressure" featuring Ginuwine. The video was filmed over December 4th and 5th in Toronto. RT (Xzibit's "Concentrate") and Little X shared directing duties.
Cameo appearances in the video include Hulk Hogan, Brooke Hogan, Mad Linx (BET), DJ Drama and more. It was all love on the set, as Belly was also asked to record in studio with Brooke Hogan for her new single "Heaven Baby" which is a follow up to her current Hot 100 single "About Us" with Paul Wall.
Hulk Hogan even attended the studio session and joked about taking him to Wrestlemania, calling it, "Bellymania".
Belly is keeping busy with promotion for his new album, he is currently appearing on Amped Mobile commercials on MTV, and is getting ready to take his album coast to coast with release parties in New York, Detroit, Chicago, and LA. The US can expect to hear Belly on their radios starting February 5th, nationwide. In addition to all of that, Belly will be on tour this January with Snoop Dogg and Ice Cube across Canada.

 Multi-Platinum Producer Bobcat successfully launched his new DJ and Producer agency entitled, "The Foundation". The first division, West Coast DJ's and Producers was launched with a Meeting that brought great reviews and attendance.
The "Meeting of the Minds" meeting, was held last week at the elegant Universal Sheraton Hotel, in Universal City.
To kick off this much needed event the meeting was called to order with a freestyle turntable exhibition, by West Coast radio and celebrity Dj's, Legendary Dj Spinderella (Salt & Peppa), West Coast Legend and Original Mix-Master, Tony G, Dj Motiv8 (Black Eye Peas), Dj Jam (Snoop Dogg & Dr. Dre's Official Dj), Dj Spark (KJLH), Dj Michael Motion (Wild 96.1 FM) Dj Silk and Bobcat himself. The Foundation made it clear to attendees that the organization is available to assist them in various aspects of their day to day operations, including, Production, Management, Booking, Consulting, etc.

Kokane & Meech Wells Celebrate 'Christmas In Tha Hood' - December 18, 2006 By : Rud
 With one week to go until Christmas, dubcnn has once again lined up with Meech Wells to present the first in a selection of festive treats for our readers.
Back in 2002 Meech Wells and the Doggystyle Records team were secretly working on a Christmas album that was scheduled for release that year. The whole Doggystyle Records roster worked on material for the album including Snoop Dogg, E-White, Latoiya Williams, Soopafly and Kokane.
The latter of that list, Kokane, worked on one track with Meech Wells and Quazedelic of The SoundScanners that was entitled; "Christmas In Tha Hood." The song also featured Snoop Dogg's brother Bing of the group Lifestyle.
Today we can proudly present this track courtesy of Meech Wells exclusive on dubcnn for our readers, download it, bump it and most of all enjoy it. Once again we have managed to secure another track that was left in the vaults and present it to you; unaltered, untagged - the way it was meant to be heard.

Jerry Heller Gives Credit To Ahmet Ertegun - December 15, 2006 By : Inspire
 Jerry Heller, co-founder of Eazy-E's Ruthless Records and manager of the multi-platinum rap group N.W.A. issued a statement on Wednesday, crediting Ahmet Ertegun as being responsible for the first West Coast hiphop group to go gold, selling half a million copies, a release that was distributed by Atlantic Records, and that was on the Ruthless Records imprint.
Heller and the late rap legend Eric "Eazy-E" Wright initiated the seminal West Coast rap label Ruthless Records by establishing distribution of its early Dr. Dre produced artists, including JJ Fad, the D.O.C. and Michel'le through Atlantic Records.
Ruthless' JJ Fad became the first West Coast rap group to go gold with the success of their hit album "Supersonic." Importantly, this Ruthless Records release was the very first rap album ever to sell gold on any label within in the Warner Music Group.
Heller states of Ertegun, "Ahmet brought integrity, vision, style and class to the music business. A giant among mere mortals. His presence will be sorely missed by those of us who had the privilege of knowing him."
Heller praises Ertegun several times in his autobiographical memoir "Ruthless," which was recently published by Simon and Schuster.

V-White Has "Perfect Timin" On New Release - December 15, 2006 By : Rud
 Delinquents member and Oakland originator has recently completed a new album to be released in the new year. The project; "Perfect Timin'", is his first project under the V-White/SMC Recordings imprint and is so-named because there truly is no better time for the sound of the Bay Area.
The album features production from Ant Banks, Traxamillion, E-A-Ski and Big Zeke and appearances by The Delinquents, Mistah F.A.B., Too Short, Casual of the Heiroglyphics, Ant Banks & V-White's crew The Neighborhood (Big Zeke, J-Lee, Playa Los, 2 Face, Chris Lockett & Alicia Ward).
Hailing from East Oakland, V-White personifies his hometown so much so that people say V-White is Oakland. When asked about the new release SMC Recordings Co-Founder Will Bronson stated; "It's important to us to represent the Bay Area as true to form as possible. Oakland has such a rich history, we knew we needed someone that was a direct reflection of that and when E-A-Ski brought up V's record, it was obvious he's the real deal and we had found our guy."

Exclusive "Blue Carpet Treatment" Leftover [Audio] - December 11, 2006 By : Lil Jay
 Another day, another world premiere on Dubcnn. After hooking up with Meech Wells to bring you a bunch of Snoop Dogg exclusives, we got another special gift from the Top Dogg. This time around we linked up with Quazedelic and Josef Leimberg of the production team The Soundscannerz. The two producers hit up Snoop's lab a few months ago to record a song for "Tha Blue Carpet Treatment", but unfortunately it didn't make the album due to legal issues.
But Dubcnn is here to change that, because this song is just too damn good and smooth to leave it in the vaults. Just in time for the holiday season we present you this beautiful song called "Life" featuring The Emotions. Looking at this combination alone makes it a must check. Just like many other "Tha Blue Carpet Threatment" leftovers, this laid back cut would have fit the album perfectly. And the list of leftovers keeps getting longer...
 As for the Soundscannerz, not only did they do a good job on this track here, but on all the other records they've produced this year. One of them is the new album from Saafir "Good Game: The Transition", but most notably the upcoming X-Clan album "Return From Mecca" coming January 30. Quazedelic produced 5 songs on that album and is also featured on 2 songs. X-Clan's album has more production and/or guest appearances from DJ Quik, RBX, DJ Khalil, Chali2na, KRS-One, and others. You can find a review for the album in the current issue of The Source Magazine (Xzibit cover).
As we previously reported, Quaze and Josef are also coming out with their own record "The Resume", due out January 30, 2007 [see: Quazedelic & Josef Leimberg Ready "The Resume"]. The album will be released on their Soundscannerz label with major distribution. After that you can expect the Soundscannerz debut LP featuring songs with Snoop, George Clinton, Redman, Dudley Perkins, Sa-Ra, Angie Stone, and many more.

Evidence Is 'Mr Slow Flow' On "The Weatherman" - December 5, 2006 By : Rud
 Evidence of Dilated Peoples is currently finalising his long awaited solo LP debut entitled "The Weatherman" which will hit stores on March 20 2007.
The release, which is being put out by ABB Records (home of Defari and Planet Asia amongst others), is one of the most anticpated releases for early 2007 and judging by the material we have heard so far is well on its way to being worth the wait. We have the lead single for the album available for download entitled; "Mr Slow Flow" which is produced by Joey Chavez and features scratches by DJ Revolution.
According to Evidence himself the record was mixed with Eddie Sancho and mastered with the legend that is; Brian "Big Bass" Garder [for those that don't know him, read liner notes of albums, he's bound to be in most!]
The B-Side of the album's single is the incredible "Hot And Cold" which is produced by Evidence himself and features The Alchemist. Both tracks can be heard below, let me assure you they will not dissapoint.

 One of the West's hottest up and coming artists Glasses Malone, who's been known to tell the truth, nothing but the truth, no matter how hard to take that truth is, released a public service announcement over the internet last night, called "Kingdome Come", where he adresses the negative comments about Jay-Z's latest album "Kingdome Come", as well as the West Coast artists/fans in general.

"Why cant hip hop artist grow up? This Jay Z album should help alot of us with our transition into being older, wiser, and responsible adults. The Hip Hop critics have try to crucify this cd. Whats wrong with a 37 year old man to show growth. That nigga is ole enuff to be someone's grandfather for christ sake. It would've been a crime for that man to rap about slangin rocks, or gunnin people down. Its a shame to see rappers his age rap about juvenile shit such as gang bangin, slangin, and other ignorant things.
Not to mention these artist who have been successful don't even understand whats really going on in the hood. Thats why we constantly see these lowriders, khakis, and all type of other shit in these videos. Niggaz aint wearing that in the hood. Its just a foul misrepresentation. When was the last time they been to South Central, Inglewood, Watts, Compton, Long Beach? We look so old to the rest of the world. Where are the Dodge Chargers? where are the Harleys? If you been to L.A. lately, muthafuccas are wearing $500 jeans. Niggaz rarely even go to Crenshaw. The New Crenshaw is Broadway. Have you been there?
Rocks aint poppin in L.A. anymore. Pills are the new crack rock, Cush is the new crack rock. Open your eyes L.A.! Fuck that open your eyes whole world. Jay Z has commited the worse sin in hip hop. Being SUCCESSFUL! But is it really that horrible? Is it wrong to tell the youth what type of things lie ahead if you handle ya finances correctly? Is it wrong to convince the youth to stop putting worthless rims on a car? Is it wrong for a man to say don't waste your money on jewelry? Sounds like something my father would say. Guess what, Dude and my pops aint that far apart. So why not give worthwile advice like getting your credit together. Buyin property(nightclubs). These are the dreams people should aspire to achieve. Not a Phantom. Embrace the cutural growth.
I wish West Coast artist close to this man's age would make music that actually played a role in our street culture. It probably could help alot of these street issues. Why did I have to be the first one to make a song uniting crips and bloods? I'm glad to hear the records that have been inspired from my music. *Enters "Tha Sermon"* Once I'm done with you muthafuccas(fans and rappers alike) You gone look in the mirror at your self different. You gon have to ask yourself, Why can't I keep it this real? Pooh said "Tha Sermon" is too advance for the hood. We will see.
So I end this with embrace albums that show growth. We all gotta grow up. Why not learn from someone who has been thru our same path?
