news Black's "New Black City" Mixtape Available Now - October 31, 2006 By : Zuka

After his debut album, Bottled Up, was pulled from the retail market due to trademark issues, Black aka Black Daniels returns with his second mixtape, New Black City. As Crown City's next-in-line, Black's latest project will exemplify all sides of the Altadena, CA, native - the party animal, the lyricist, the introspective thinker, all sprinkled with a little controversy and delivered in Black's signature West Coast-country boy twang. Far from being a "mixtape-only spitter" like so many MC's these days, Black doesn't just brag and boast, he covers many bases, everything from dealing with personal losses to intoxicated nights and rough morning-afters.

New Black City features guest appearances and production from 1stBorn, XL Middleton, DJ Warrior and Blu Iz (rapper-turned-actor who starred in The Shield, The Fat Albert Movie and other roles). The mixtape also features a Hood Remix with 50 Cent & Mobb Deep.

news Damizza & Butch Cassidy Come Together For Duet Album - October 29, 2006 By : Nima

It's been a long time since we last heard from hook master and R&B crooner Butch Cassidy, who blessed many tracks with his smooth voice in the past couple of years. But whenever we did hear from Butch, he was somewhere around Baby Ree's Damizza.

After years of collaborations, they have decided to come together for a duet project called "Back B4 You're Lonely", which is set to be released January 30th 2007 through Baby Ree/Universal/Fontana.

"It's been a long time coming, and we're back.", Damizza says. "Time to put some records out. Butch & I just have a sick chemistry when we get in the studio, we just tend to knock out hits." Butch & Damizza have already enjoyed success together, including the track "On 2's" which appeared on EA Sports NBA Live Video game. "It's a privilege to be able to listen to our music while I'm kicking Damizza's ass at NBA Live", Butch says.

Expect to hear the Gangsta Blues with a Twist of Street-Jazz that Butch is known to bring; combine that with Damizza's smoke- filled, hypnotizing, G-Crunk beats and you know it's gona be a hit.

We'll keep you updated on everything concerning this project, so keep it locked right here.

news Noni Spitz Takes You On A 'Walk In His Shoes' [Audio] - October 29, 2006 By : Nima

Noni Spitz has been building up his buzz as part of the New West Movement, and with his current mixtape-album "W.I.M.S. Radio: Walk In My Shoes", he's certifying his position on the West. We briefly caught up with Noni to talk about the CD.

"The mixtape is called W.I.M.S. Radio, Walk In My Shoes, cause basically I'm taking everybody on a walk through my shoes, showing you what my sound and my style and basically all about.", he says about the mix CD. "I'm bringing something new, fresh to the West Coast, hard core Hip-Hop soul, that's what I'm bringing, with a high lyrical content. The whole mix CD is based on the title "mixtape album" cause when you pop it in, the quality of the songs, everything is original, it's all album material, but we mixed it up, got it sounding like a mixtape. It's hosted by Mike Live from K-Day and Gangsta Granny, so it's got a whole radio feel to it, it's hot!"

He's also got some of the hottest New West artists featured on "Walk In My Shoes", Bishop Lamont, Roccett, Scipio, Dae One, Taje, Mykestro just to name a few. Noni Spitz is part of Jazzy Management, along side Clinton Wayne, The Young Hoggs, Fred Knuxx and more, so that should be a hint towards the quality of the music you can expect from Noni Spitz.

I have three preview tracks for everybody to listen to:

Noni Spitz - What It Iz
Noni Spitz - Cruise In (ft. Chevy Jones)
Noni Spitz - Dig That

Here is a little shoutout Noni Spitz recorded for all the dubcnn visitors:

Dubcnn resident Young Maylay is back in the building and again he's got a special gift for everybody out there, and I mean litterally everybody. This time he becomes internationally active by hooking up with overseas producer DBM. Maylay recorded a song for the Swiss beatmaker's bilingual project which was recently released.

The track is called "Street Chadda" and Young Maylay created a certified Dubcnn anthem. He knocked this out in no time and reps L.A. with four fingers on two verses, making it the album's standout track. DBM produced the track using a Rocky sample which adds a perfect touch to the track and lets Maylay do his thing. That's about it, I'll let the song do the talking...

We'll be bringing you more tracks from DBM's project, which features other songs from the likes of Dirty Birdy, Slo-Mo, Bigg Steele Feat. Gambit, Semi-Automatic Feat. Young Leph, and many more. news Compton's Joe Blaq Hits Dubcnn With Some Heat! - October 26, 2006 By : Nima

I want to introduce the dubcnn viewers to an artist out of Compton, Ca, who, despite being in the game for years under the name of Q'sta Tha Don, is ready for a fresh start under his new moniker Joe Blaq.

It was hard to put this update together, because all the songs that Joe Blaq sent me were hot to def, making it hard to pick out my favorites to showcase on the site. Tracks like "Compton Bullshit" or "The W" are straight West Coast anthems, then he has tracks like "Lexus Car" with a more mainstream approach, or straight gutter joints like "I'm Back", which was recorded specifically for dubcnn.

'Nuff talk, let's get to the music, I have upload the four tracks I mentioned above for everybody to download, get them below:

Joe Blaq - I'm Back (Dubcnn Exclusive)
Joe Blaq - Compton Bullshit
Joe Blaq - The W
Joe Blaq - Lexus Car

By now you should be convinced of Joe Blaq's talent, so go ahead and check out his myspace page at myspace.com/joeblaq532. Be on the lookout for a lot more on Joe Blaq on dubcnn soon.

Since then he has been busy writing and recording new material and has got two of California's best DJ's together to work with him on his street album; "Richest of the Poorest, Poorest of the Richest."

The two DJ's in question are DJ Warrior and The Bay Area's DJ E-Rock who will be presenting the album which will include production from Blaqthoven, Bosko and Tone Touch amongst others. Guest appearences are set to include Yukmouth, Rick Ross, Kam, Bosko, Bo Roc and Bloodbath to name but a few.

We have the street album's lead single and potential new anthem entitled; "Ballar Boi" which is produced by Blaqthoven of Heatchambers/ Gain Green Records. In a recent press release the single is desvribed as "[Baller Boi] is the new west coast dance everybody is doing and the answer to "lean wit it, rock wit it" and "chicken noodle soup". It's not just a dance it's a way life."

news "Pac's Life" Album Cover & Information - October 20, 2006 By : Rud

Earlier this week we released news on the latest posthumous release from Tupac as well as the albums lead single, [see The Latest Tupac Release "Pac's Life" Lead Single], which so far has received mixed reviews from our readers and forum members.

The new album entitled "Pac's Life" - the confirmed cover of which can now be seen to the left - will feature unreleased Tupac material as well as a host of 'current' HipHop and R&B acts.

The album includes contributions by Ludacris, Snoop Dogg, Keyshia Cole, T.I., Ashanti, Young Buck, Carl Thomas, Big Syke, Papoose, Bone Thugs-N-Harmony, Outlawz and Lil Scrappy with production from LT Hutton, Sha Money XL, Swizz Beatz and others.

A recent press release regarding the album stated; "One verse fans will recognize from an earlier album, all of the [other] recordings on the album are previously unheard." In the past decade since Tupac's death there have been 11 posthumous albums released which have featured music that Tupac recorded prior to his murder.

When asked about "Pac's Life", his mother Afeni Shakur stated; "I say it every time, that Tupac left us the blueprints to follow, and without the amazing contributions made by everyone of these artists, producers, musicians, everyone, I do not know how I would get this great task accomplished, I believe whole-heartedly that Tupac sends the people he wants to these projects."

As in our previous update on the album we have the albums title track "Pac's Life" for download which features T.I & Ashanti and is produced by LT Hutton.

Tupac - Pac's Life (Feat. Ashanti & T.I.) (Produced By LT Hutton)

The album is being released on Amuru/Interscope and is executive produced by Afeni Shakur and Tom Whalley. "Pac's Life" hits stores November 21st.

news SouthWest Click Calls For West Coast Unity - October 18, 2006 By : Lil Jay

Carson California is home to some of the emerging talent on the West Coast in 2006, like Bishop Lamont or most recently the trio SouthWest Click, who we introduced you to last month [see: California & Atlanta Make The "SouthWest Click"]. The Cali/ATL based group are back and again they brought some music with them to share with us.

To make it even better they came with a nice concept for the song. The track is called "West Coast Is Back" and it calls for unity on the West Coast. There is a big remix in the works featuring new faces and vets together on the same song, aiming to put everybody on the same page.

The song was produced by LT Moe who produced for Stat Quo and Bishop Lamont in the past, and most recently the Ludacris & Jadakiss collabo "More, More, More". LT laced a dope beat which adds that typical West Coast feel to the song.

Dubcnn has the song available for download. The version we have for you today is only with the SouthWest Click on it. If you are interested to contribute something serious, feel free to hit them up @ southwestclick.com.

news Belly & Ginuwine Know You Feel The Pressure - October 17, 2006 By : Adon

A few months ago we introduced you to a new talent out of Ottawa, Canada by the name of Belly. Well since then he's been very busy. With three successful mixtapes, three chart topping singles under his belt, and his full-length debut album on the way, Belly is, "ready for anything".

His LP entitled, "The Revolution" is set for international release on CP Records in 2007. Belly recruited many of hip-hop and R&B's finest to work alongside him in The Revolution. Features on the album include Fabolous, the legendary Scarface, Nina Sky, Ginuwine, Mario Winans and of course, labelmates Massari, Deuce Deuce, Vico, and the princess of CP, Monique.

After much anticipation, Dubcnn and CP Records are proud to announce the first single from Belly’s upcoming debut album The Revolution. The (soon-to-be hit song)"PRESSURE", features none other than multi platinum R&B/POP legend Ginuwine.

"Ginuwine played a big role in my childhood, they played 'Pony' at every dance I went to growing up. It is nothing less than an honor to work with him...and better yet, make hits with him!!!" says Belly.

When asked about working with Belly, Ginuwine responded, "That boy is fire!!!" The combination of hypnotizing strings and powerful, fast paced drums (prod. by Beat Merchant), is sure to move bodies on and off the dance floor. Unlike the typical formula for 'commercial' music, Belly displays depth and wit with his lyrics, which helps him stand out from the crowd of upcoming artists.

Below we have the lead single with Ginuwine, along with the B Side, "Stomp". And in case you missed it, I've re-linked "I Swear" with Scarface.

news The Latest Tupac Release "Pac's Life" Lead Single - October 17, 2006 By : Rud

To those of you who browse Tupac fan sites and forums I have no doubt you will know of and be anticpating the latest installment of Tupac's posthumous material. The new release is set to be titled "Pac's Life" and is sure to divide fans across the world as to the nature of its release.

As with the majority of Tupac's post death releases the original material, which has graced the internet and bootleg CD's for years, has been changed.

You can expect original beats to have been switched, lyrics chopped up, even new words made to suit the new vibe of the tracks in question and as always; guest appearences altered to suit the taste of the current HipHop buyers. While it is set to infuriate many, a great many others will still grab a copy when the album is released on November 21st 2006.

We have the lead single for the album, which is the albums title track "Pac's Life" - however it is no longer the track many will have heard in the past - it now features T.I with a verse, Ashanti on the hook and a new beat by LT Hutton.

news Lil Eazy-E & The CUDJ's Plot "The Rebirth Of Gangsta Rap" - October 15, 2006 By : Rud

As we reported last month Lil Eazy-E has been working on a mixtape with the Cali Untouchable DJ's; DJ Warrior & DJ Strong. The mixtape is now available and is part of the Cali Untouchable Radio mixtape series - entitled "The Rebirth Of Gangsta Rap" and will preceed his official debut album which will now be coming out on Blackground/Universal/NWA Ent. since he left Virgin Records earlier this year.

He was only a month away from his 11th birthday when his father Eazy E passed away in 1995.

Ever since the day, Lil' Eazy E has dreamed of picking up where his father left off. Recognized by many as the Godfather of Gangsta Rap, Eazy E was also father to his own blood - Eric Wright Jr. As his father was taking hip-hop by storm with Eazy-Duz-It and a gang of Ruthless records, his son was growing up in the mean streets of Compton.

Eazy Sr. passed on the torch of gangsta rap when Lil' Eazy was 10, while it may have taken a few years for Lil' Eazy to develop into a worthy successor, he is ready to take his shot as reviving the gangsta rap that once ruled the Compton kingdom.

Ready to go all out on the way to a major label debut album, Lil' Eazy first wanted to serve the streets with his first official mixtape with the CAli Untouchable DJ's and establish himself as a rapper, not just Eazy's son.

We have the tracklist below for this mixtape with all the guest appearances and later this week we will have exclusive audio from the project. The CD is available for sale now on HipHopWest and will be available on dubcnn for paid download next week.

news Exclusive Interview With Young Buck & 50 Cent! - October 14, 2006 By : Lil Jay

As any returning visitor should know by now (first time readers will soon find out), Dubcnn is known for being the spot that breaks independent talent first, the spot that connects you to the who's who and what's what on the left side, or just the spot for everything in between. Since we already have the West Coast on lock, it's only right that we take a little trip out East and South for an exclusive with two heavyweights in Hip Hop, Young Buck and 50 Cent. Buck and 50 take their time out of their busy schedule to sit down with us for this exclusive 3-way interview. Yash and myself conducted this indepth interview which was handled in different sessions.

Young Buck gets into it and discusses his upcoming album "Buck the World", his recent collaboration with BC Knocc Out and Spider Loc on "Anotha Day in L.A.", being a CEO and signing C-Bo to Cashville Records, G-Units recent album sales, his opinion on fans getting involved in rap feuds, and much more. 50 Cent then proceeds to talk about the Southern takeover in Hip Hop, New York's state of mind, current and past issues with different artists, Young Bucks energy and drive, and much more.

The interview runs over an over so we had to split the interview in two parts. Part one is Young Bucks show, while part two is carried by 50 Cent. For now we present you part one of the interview, but make sure you check back on Dubcnn for the exclusive Part 2 coming in a few days. As ever, you can read and listen to this exclusive interview and we urge you to leave feedback on our forums or email them to liljay@dubcnn.com and yash@dubcnn.com.

news K-Os is back with Hymns for Disco - October 13, 2006 By : Adon

We've seen him on TV. We've heard him on the radio. We've watched him accept three Juno Awards, four MuchMusic Awards, six Canadian Urban Music Awards, a Source Award, garner a Grammy nomination, perform hit singles and reach platinum-plus status with Joyful Rebellion and the Publicity Stunt DVD. And while these accomplishments brought k-os great pride, he hopes that with his new album ATLANTIS - Hymns for Disco, people can focus on the music rather than the accolades.

It all began with the first song he wrote for the new album, the uplifting "Sunday Morning." k-os had been reflecting back on his life in the spotlight and questioning the association between personal validation and public acceptance. "After the last record, I would be walking down the street and people would come up to me as if they knew me. And it felt good to be popular, I guess," k-os confides.

Creating this song opened his eyes and brought him back to the lifestyle and values he learnt during his fundamentalist upbringing. "If Saturday night was party night, Sunday morning was family time in my house - from the morning activities to the dinner served," he says. "It's funny I left all that behind to see what the world was like on my own terms. Everything then was go-go-go! I felt so ambitious with so much to accomplish, only to now understand the sacredness of resting and having time to contemplate and renew yourself." He continues: "Making this song has changed my life. It really works to embrace and be aware of what troubles us. This is the theme of ATLANTIS."

"The Rain" is a painfully sincere song on which k-os sings with a new sense of honesty and rawness. There are no samples, no rap, no musical mixtures and concoctions; he keeps it pure, simple and real from beginning to end. "I was surprised by how well I could emote fresh cuts from a situation in the past where I was ruled by a woman," he admits. "I really thought I was over it. But emotions build up inside and if these remain unattended, they only build up further. 'The Rain' is the storm of those unchecked emotions."

The fourteen tracks on ATLANTIS - Hymns for Disco delve into many different directions, but are tied by themes of veracity, forgiveness and self-awareness. For this extremely personal album, it only made sense for

k-os to collaborate with a few of his trusted friends. Both Sam Roberts and Kevin Drew (Broken Social Scene) make a welcome appearance on "Valhalla." WhileBuck 65 and Kamau (who has appeared on all three albums) help close the album with the stirring opus, "Ballad of Noah," which shows that

k-os stands for 'knowledge of self' and on this new album he has not only identified a path to 'knowledge of self,' but brings us on that never-ending journey.

news Damani Inks Deal With Sony Urban For New Album! - October 13, 2006 By : Nima

Official Press Release: Emerging West Coast rapper Damani has signed with My Block/Sony Urban Music, who will release the young artist's first full-length album.

An Inglewood native, Damani is pioneering a new approach to West Coast rap, breaking musical and lyrical boundaries as a dominant force in the current Los Angeles hip-hop scene. An in-demand MC in local hip-hop clubs, Damani began to draw airplay on major LA radio stations -- including serious BDS spins on Power 105.9 and K Day 93.5 -- with tracks like "Inglewood" and "Gotta Stay Paid."

Raised on the streets of LA, Damani was determined to develop a sound and style that would transform the LA hip-hop world. Toward that goal, he released his breakout mix-tape, "Congratulations Playa," hosted DJs Reflex and Skee, which made him one of the most sought-after artists on the West Coast.

As admiration for his skills grew in the local rap community, Damani earned the respect of a number of West Coast rap pioneers, whose work had first inspired him to go into music, including Dr. Dre, Mel Man, and his biggest influence, Snoop Dogg, who called Damani an artist "….I could pass the torch to and watch it burn."

"Damani is an important new voice in West Coast hip-hop, combining the truth and soul of the streets with hypnotic rhythms and an incredible musical sophistication," said Lisa Ellis, President, Sony Urban Music. "Sony Urban is proud to welcome him to our label family and look forward to working with him in creating a new chapter in hip-hop history."

"Damani brings a new perspective to West Coast hip-hop," said Kawan "KP" Prather, Executive Vice President, A&R, Sony Urban Music. "As much as he was born and raised in Inglewood and has the respect of the streets, he has also seen other parts of the world. And he's able to let people know, through his music, that it's ok to represent your hood, but it's also great to experience as much life as possible. To me, that's gangsta, for real."

We will keep you updated on everything surrounding Damani. Incase you missed his mixtape "Congratulations, Playa", which he had available for download, check it out now below:

news 2B Roy Holds A "West Coast Forum" For Debut Mixtape - October 12, 2006 By : Rud

Last year dubcnn introduced an artist who created a stir amongst our readers - 2B Roy. The WestCoast Reggae artist from Southern Californa burst onto the scene ready to put his name as far out as possible following his previous work with the IV Life camp.

Since then all has been quiet and many have wondered what happened to the former friend of the now deceased Prince Ital Joe, who many will remember from his work with Death Row.

Since last year 2B Roy has been busy writing and recording new material that is set to appear on his soon to be release mixtape; "West Coast Forum" - when asked about the project 2B Roy told dubcnn; "I'm getting to the bottom of things, addressing issues like The war [on terror], women, Badman, Guns, Love and more."

We have three tracks to premiere all with different topics and vibe but still showcaseing his unique style, one is called "Friends and Enemies" where 2B Roy talks about fake homies who have bragged about doing him wrong on the Tupac track "This Ain't Living." The second track we have is called "Scary" while the final cut is dedicated to Julio G and his 9 'O Clock Bomb radio show on KDAY [while we're mentioned Julio G, dubcnn would like to send a belated birthday shoutout to Julio who celebrated his birthday yesterday!]

"This mixtape is where I deliver a message to West Coast rappers and other listeners using my unique style of West Coast Reggae which is a mixture of Reggae, Gangsta Rap and Dancehall music." You can expect to see guest appearances from Breezy, Stratt, Ji Spott, Daddy V, WonderBoy and more. Dubcnn is your spot for up and coming acts, we do our best to find the talented artists who have not recieved major exposure yet and let you check them out. Recently a group by the name of Hardline hit me up, from Minneapolis, Minnesota and I hit up their MySpace page. Some of their songs were cool, but nothing that struck me.

That's when the song "How Close Is Heaven" came on. The soulful and laid back beat immediately got me, like on some throwback 90's shit. Hardline consists of two rappers, Anthem and Kite, and both delivery a deep verse, reflecting on life and the daily struggles. This is what I miss in Hip-Hop right now, which is why I decided to put the song on dubcnn. Download "How Close Is Heaven" below:

Snoop Dogg recently spoke to AllHipHop.com about a track off "The Blue Carpet Treatment" which Nottz produced and features R. Kelly. "Dr. Dre called me today. We’ve been working on my record. He helped me fix this song I did with R.Kelly. It was a hit record before I gave it Dre, but now it’s a super hit record. He made me strike all my vocals. That means, “Take all your lyrics off, I don’t like ‘em. They’re wack.” I even go through that s**t too. To this day, you know what I mean? I ain’t too big to take criticism. He made me take all my lyrics off and me and D.O.C. had to come up with some more s**t that was just extraordinary."

The song he was talking about is called "That's That Sh*t" and was premiered on 92.3 K-Day yesterday. You can stop listening to the radio rip that is being distributed on the internet, because we have the full song in good quality available for streaming. Pick your format below:

news Scion continues to support independent artistic expression - October 9, 2006 By : Yash

Scion continues to support independent artistic expression through its latest Scion Audio/Visual (SA/V) 12" vinyl release of El Michels Affair and Raekwon and Scion CD Sampler v.15 - Award Tour mixed by Cosmo Baker and DJ Ayres.

"Scion Audio/Visual opens up a path that connects creative artists and avid listeners," said Jeri Yoshizu, Scion sales promotions manager. "We encourage artistic creativity and the A/V label is one of Scion's approaches to supporting the music community."

The latest 12" vinyl installment, available this month, sees Brooklyn's El Michels Affair paired up with hip-hop legend Raekwon (of Wu-Tang Clan) for a "live remix" of Raekwon's song with Pete Rock called "The PJs," as well as an original El Michels song and a couple interlude/bonus beats. Raekwon wrote some new lyrics for "The PJs" track, and El Michels flipped it with their signature vintage soul sound.

SA/V brings you Scion CD Sampler v.15 - Award Tour mixed by Cosmo Baker and DJ Ayres. Along with partner DJ Eleven, they comprise The Rub crew.

The Rub started as a monthly party in the summer of 2002 at Southpaw in Brooklyn, and it quickly grew into "the best party in NYC" (New York Press). Now in its fourth year, The Rub continues to live up to the accolades - packing in a diverse crowd who'll wild-out to hip-hop, '80s, disco, rock, funk, house, reggae and everything in between.

The Rub's Cosmo Baker played a crucial part of Philadelphia nightlife for years - holding down the now-legendary Back to Basics party with King Britt; spinning at house parties back in the day with The Roots; and launching the beloved Remedy monthly alongside Rich Medina. The Rub's DJ Ayres got his start spinning hip-hop on college radio and at parties, and has released upwards of 50 mixtapes in 10 years, prompting the New York Times to call him "one of New York's best mixtape DJs."

Included on Scion CD Sampler v.15 - Award Tour are songs by Ghostface & MF Doom, Memphis Bleek, The Streets, Aloe Blacc, Chromeo, Bloc Party, and UK Mercury Prize nominee Sway, among many others. Scion CD Sampler v.15 will be available at upcoming Scion events across the country.

SA/V continues to bring listeners, those with and without the skills to cut it up on the turntable, the heart and soul of music through its vinyl and CD releases.

Look out for future installments of the mix CDs and 12" vinyl from Scion DJ Contest winner DJ Cutler and from Connie Price & The Keystones w/ Big Daddy Kane, respectively.

About Scion Audio/Visual:
Scion Audio/Visual (SA/V) was founded to give true artists a voice in a noisy world. Scion has consistently championed independent thinking and alternative culture. With its Audio/Visual in-house record label, Scion continues to promote that culture with a series of CD mixtapes and 12" vinyl releases, both given out for free, which focus on getting exposure for these talented musicians and DJs. With global vision and diversity through expression, SA/V champions individuality with no genre boundaries.

Each 12" release features an up-and-coming live band with a special guest vocalist (an established MC or singer) doing a "cover" or "live version" of that vocalist's song. Past collaborations have included the daKAH Hip Hop Orchestra featuring Guru of Gangstarr; The Fyre Dept. with GZA; and Rhythm Roots Allstars featuring Raheem Devaughn, Aloe Blacc and Afrodisiac Sound System.

On the other side of the SA/V concept, the mix CDs span the gamut of hip-hop, funk, soul, reggae, world, and electronic music. Previous installments have featured mixes from Wax Poetics' DJ Monk One, Mr. Scruff & Nicolay, The Oakland Faders, Peanut Butter Wolf & Jazzy Jeff, and others.

news The 3rd annual Bay Area Rap Summit! - October 6, 2006 By : Yash

The San Francisco Bay Area has long been home to a wealth of talent from hip-hop and rap artists such as the legendary rap artists E-40 and Too Short, along with Old School acts like ConFunkShun and Tower of Power. Steadily overlooked by traditional media outlets such as MTV/BET and The Source Magazine, the B.A.R.S. (which dubcnn covered last year) was founded as a way to get the world to pay attention to this once thriving landscape of talent which has recently seen a resurgence with the success of "the Hyphy Movement" Major labels are quickly following the trend and trying to snatch up hot newer artist's such as Mistah FAB, Turftalk JP the 13th, Wolfpack, Ya Boy, Clyde Carson, the A'z and veterans such as Too Short, San Quinn, Messy Marv, Keak Da Sneak, Baby Bash & E-40 (who both brought home the Bay's first GOLD Albums in many years).

On April 17, 2005, the Bay Area experienced the 1st Annual Bay Area Rap Summit (B.A.R.S.). Held at Emma's/Club Miami in Downtown San Jose the First Annual B.A.R.S. proved to be a historic, event and a blessing for much needed attention for the Bay Area's independent music industry. With over eight hundred attendees, the B.A.R.S. went over without a hitch and showed the world that the Bay Area can stand up and take its place among the country's elite musical hotbeds. The 2nd Annual B.A.R.S. took place at the old Hotel Ibiza in Oakland, CA now The Wild Card Bar & Grill on November 6th , 2005. This year, northern California's premier industry event will again be held at the Wild Card on Sunday November 5 th 2006.

The 3rd annual Bay Area Rap Summit will be picking up right where the last one left off and upping the ante on its west coast celebrity and industry brethren. Focusing on being both more politically active and educational, this year's summit will no doubt be the place where northern California as a whole maps out its plans towards securing the top spot in popular culture. Bringing in elite industry officials such as Wendy Day & DJ Michael Watts 5000, the third installment of the summit will continue it's legacy as a professional and educational, industry networking event with a focus on "how to build and succeed in the independent rap game" in today's volatile marketplace. Guest speakers and panelists from across the country will discuss a wide range of topics that face the independent artist and label from artist development, to radio and mix shows to securing distribution. There will also be showcases of up and coming artists as well as a freestyle competition. Heavy emphasis will be placed on the importance of networking as well as adapting to an industry that has become heavily reliant on modern technology including the internet, digital recording programs and the like.

Come out for a day of education, food, fun, networking, and a chance to meet with the industry's top professionals, corporate sponsors as well as artist's, producers, publishers, entertainment lawyers, promoters, booking agents, media outlets and radio personalities. 2006 is the year for everyone to experience Northern California's premier industry networking seminar.

news Dirty Birdy Is Back With More "Rumerz"! - October 5, 2006 By : Lil Jay

The Inland Empire's filthiest bird Dirty Birdy is back at it! Last summer we hit you off with the infamous "Rumerz" which became an instant classic in the I.E. If you're a regular fan it made you have a good laugh and if you're a victim it probably made you cry. The fans asked for more, so it was only right that Birdy went back to the studio to record a follow up. And a little over a year later he's back with "Rumerz Part 2".

If you heard Part 1 you already know what you're in for...nothing but comedy. Fingazz laced the beat and Birdy did his thing by asking his questions and making fun of the industry. And as he said, "You don't wanna hear a rumor about yourself then keep quiet, but if the shit is true admit it and stop lying!"

The song is gonna be featured on Birdy's "Mixtape Volume 4" which is scheduled to come out in the next couple of weeks. The mixtape is hosted by the Wake Up Show's Sway & King Tech and Big Von from KMEL. Volume 3 is still scheduled to come out, while Volume 2 has been scrapped more or less. A small amount of copies will be pressed up and distributed in the Empire, but other than that it won't be available. But don't worry about it because Dubcnn got you on that one. The mixtape will also be available on here for paid download in the next couple of days, so stay tuned!

Back to the song, "Rumerz Part 2" is available on Dirty Birdy's MySpace page. Click on the link below to hit up the site and listen to it:

One who hopes to be part of a swing in tradition is the Latin emcee Hectic, who dubcnn has featured many times. With his Valley Concept Productions behind him and his street album "Real Life, Real Lyrics" [click here to view the cover] finally ready for release - the 23 year old emcee is ready to showcase his talent.

Earlier this year we released two tracks; the first was a track with Valley Concept member Jade and Robbs The One called "I Know" while the second was the West Coast themed solo track "Incredible" - the lead single from the mixtape.

The response Hectic received spurred him on to get the mixtape finished and released and as such we can accounce the release date of "Real Life, Real Lyrics" as November 15 2006. The mixtape is set to include both of those tracks as well as one other we can premiere today; the track is called "Cali Lifestyle" and features Robbs The One once again. We have also included the material again from back in May of this year, check them all below.
