Introducing Taadow West Clothing Company - September 26, 2006 By : Lil Jay

A new week with new faces here on Dubcnn. Maybe new to Dubcnn, but definitely not new to Hip Hop. When it comes to being an OG, you certainly don't have to be a rapper to earn that title. This man has seen the very first week of Hip Hop and he chosed to take a total different direction than the average emcee. We're talking about Taadow, founder and owner of Taadow West Clothing Company (formerly known as Leak Wear).
The New York born and raised businessman started early in the game making custom clothing for the likes of Bad Boy Records and Loud Records, which led to his big break on the West Coast.
"I connected with Loud Records to make all their sweatshirt from Xzibit, M.O.P., Wu-Wang, and them." Taadow told Dubcnn. "All their sweatshirts got Leak wear stamp on the sleeves. So I had the budget for the whole Loud Records for the last 2 years. Al Pittman, Xzibit's security guard, he hooked me up with Dr. Dre and showed him some shit that I created, and that nigga loved it! Dre was like 'I want this as the official Up In Smoke tour shirt'. I was like 'No doubt!', so I ended up clicking with Dre cause he wanted me to do some more shit. Plus me and my man MC Serch was holding down Eminem. Somebody else was supposed to be doing their tour, but I just took the shit over. The niggas just had to fall back! Nobody wanted their shit, it became a Leak tour! First the ad with Dre came up, then I did the ad with WC. So it went down. I made custom shit for Snoop, and then Snoop came out with his line. Then we did shows in Vegas together. Snoop had just dropped his Snoop Dogg Clothing, so it was a family thing!" he continued.
Not only has Taadow been showing as much love to the West Coast as to his hometown, but he'a also getting that same love and respect back from the big boys in L.A. who opened up their doors to him.
"Me being from New York, once it came down, I got out there to L.A. and the love was shown to me from cats who didn't even know me. Like Dre, dude got a million cats around trying to get at him all the time and trying to do the same thing as me. Dude didn't know me from a hole in the wall, and he opened up his doors to me. Why? I got tired of asking why! Why did this man bless me with this shit? Cause I'm Taadow nigga! That's why. And I got my shit on lock. I got respect from the top notch cats. My communication shows it, my work shows it, my ads show it. We did 5 million in the first year, it was like magic!" Taadow said.
Dubcnn sat down with Taadow to discuss his background story and he tells us how it all started for him. Taadow speaks about getting his big break with Leak Wear to creating Taadow West Clothing Company. He also tells us where the quality difference lies in comparison to Dickies and other lines. Taadow then speaks about his future plans including a new deal with Ice Cube, negotiating with Suge Knight in the past, working with Hood Surgeon, and much more.
On top of that we also have a bunch of exclusive never before seen pictures of the Up In Smoke tour crew. Check in to see notables like Dre, Snoop, Warren G, Bad Azz, Tray Deee, WC, Xzibit, Mel-Man, Eminem, Proof (R.I.P.), and many more rockin' Leak Wear during the tour.
This won't be the last time you will see Taadow on Dubcnn. Next up we will have a contest coming up in the near future to offer Dubcnn readers the chance to win a package of Taadow West gear. Stay tuned to Dubcnn and hit the link below to read the interview.

Arab Store Owners Ban Mikkey & "Liquor Store" Song - September 23, 2006 By : Zuka

In August we dropped Mikkey's controversial street single "Liquor Store" here on Dubcnn. Arab store owners aren't too happy with the content and have "banned all Mikkey Halsted's music from all their JB's and Collection Stores, which are all located in the hood and supported by black people."
It all started when DJ Sean Mac put "Liquor Store" on his mixtape last month. The owners of Collection banned his cd after hearing "Liquor Store" and have subsequently banned any mixtapes which feature Mikkey in any shape or form.
In a press release Mikkey states the following: "Now the Arab stores are known for selling mixtapes in the hood and have never had a problem with us degrading ourselves and talking about killing each other, but the minute we put the flashlight on them, they ban us. Why, when we have been the ones putting food on their table with our hard earned money."
"I didn't intend to alienate all Arabs with that song, I just wanted to paint an accurate picture of what's really going on in OUR hood to provoke thought, letting black people know that we don't have to support those that do not have our best interest at hand. I had no beef with the Arab clothing store owners because I didn't think it applied to them, but obviously they think it does. Therefore, I say that I have no problem with any Arab that respects our people and treats them with the same dignity that they treat their OWN with. However, I say ---- YOU TO ALL YOU BLOODSUCKING ARABS THAT HAVE DONE NOTHING BUT LEACH OFF OF OUR COMMUNITY FOR THE LONGEST AND TREAT US LIKE SHIT. I HAVE NO RESPECT FOR YOU AND NO LOVE. I WILL NEVER SHOP WITH YOU AGAIN FOR ATTEMPTING TO BAN AND CENSOR THE TRUTH. U WILL ---- AROUND AND GET BANNED FROM OUR COMMUNITY. As the last line in the song says, "I KNOW YOU THINK THAT WE STUPID, AND U FEEL LIKE WE CLOWNS, BUT WE RESERVE THE RIGHT TO SHUT YA ASS DOWN!!!!!"

Ras Kass Tells The Game To "Hush Little Baby" - September 19, 2006 By : Rud

As we reported last week, Ras Kass and The Game were involved in an altercation at Element in Hollywood last Wednesday. Details of the incident are sketchy with both parties still providing conflicting stories as to the actual fight and subsequent events.
So far in the past week both The Game and Ras Kass have spoken on video regarding the issue and both have had some more heated words for each other. As with any issue that involves Hip-Hop it can become worrying as to the potential outcome of any "beef" that escalates however in the true spirit of the artform we hope it stays "on wax."
In that sense the first to emerge to say something on record is Ras Kass who has recorded a track entitled "Hush Little Baby." Albeit not Rassy's most lyrically outstanding effort he certainly makes clear his feelings on The Game and his version of events. A response from The Game we feel is likely however nothing has yet emerged. We have the audio below for fans to listen to.
Ras Kass - Hush Little Baby (Game Diss)
As always we will keep you posted on how this situation develops from either camp.Discuss This Topic

Dr. Dre Signs Brooklyn Rapper Joell Ortiz To Aftermath - September 15, 2006 By : Jome

Joell Ortiz is the name of the newest addition to Dr.Dre's Aftermath roster. The Brooklyn born rapper has been compared to Big Pun, not only because of his Latin origin, but also because of his voice and flow, check out his Big Pun tribute on his MySpace page.
"So far it's been great and I'm glad people are feeling me now but I know I have a long way to go before I'm running with the big boys like Jay-Z or 50 Cent. That's where I'm trying to reach, nothing less", Ortiz said in a statement.
Ortiz told XXL about how the deal was arranged: "I actually just got a phone call in May that Dre wanted to fly me out, that he had heard some songs through a friend of mine, Karen, up at Interscope. I think she had hooked it up or whatever. But he flew me out and it was crazy. It was like 10 or 15 minutes of me playing songs. He was just like, “Yo, I’m feeling you.” I’m like, “Yo, what the dilly, yo?” He’s like, “Yo, you wanna be Aftermath?” I’m like, “You’re damn right I wanna be Aftermath!”

Jay 211 Speaks On Ras Kass & Game Altercation - September 15, 2006 By : Nima

Re-Up Entertainment artist Jay 211 was with Ras Kass at Club Element where an altercation between The Game and Ras Kass took place, and he issued the following statement exclusively to dubcnn:
"Ras and I were at Element by ourselves and had ran into Game several times that night. Nothing was said at anytime. Toward the last 15 minutes of the club all of us were standing on stage where the VIP section was held that night, Game calmly aproached Ras to talk to him and Ras turned around not acknowlding him. Game then gave Ras a cheap shot with a bottle while Ras was turned around. Ras fought back as I was dealing with others from the Black Wallstreet Camp. Security quickly stopped the fight and all involved were escorted out. Ras is perfectly fine no damage done. The Fire is now lit and it's on..."

Ten Years On: Tupac Shakur Anniversary - September 13, 2006 By : Rud

Today marks the day of the 10th anniversary of the death of one of the most influential and best loved artist in modern Hip-Hop. Tupac Shakur tragically died after being shot on September 7th 1996 while travelling in Las Vegas with Suge Knight.
The murder is still unsolved and his death is shrowded in mystery and stories that still lead some to believe of his survival and possible re-appearence in the future.
Whatever you believe it matters not, what counts is that on September 13th 1996, a little piece of the artform we called Hip-Hop was lost forever. So raise a glass to the sky, toast a fallen icon and celebrate his life through his music in whatever way you see fit. B.G. Knoccout & Daz Hook Up At Daz In-Store - September 13, 2006 By : Nima

They dissed the hell out of each other in the early to mid-90's, they had look-a-likes dress up and kidnapped each other in their videos, and a lot more. The feud between Ruthless Records and Death Row Records is to this day one of the most publicized beefs and probably the one that generated the hottest music.
Two of the main artists involved were Daz Dillinger of Tha Dogg Pound, and B.G. Knoccout, from Eazy-E's Ruthless Records crew. Over a decade has passed since those days, and B.G.'s brother Dre'sta has since squashed his beef and recorded tracks with the D.P.G. Knocc Out on the other hand was incarcerated for many years, and we just released his first interview since his release from jail last week.
He mentioned in the interview that he had squashed the beef with Kurupt, but hadn't hooked up with Daz yet. Well, that's history now, as B.G. Knoccout hit up an In-Store for the release for Daz' album "So So Gangsta" and linked up with D-A to the Z. We have an exclusive picture from the event for ya'll to make it official, check it out below:

The Compton Baby Gangsta and the L.B.C. Dogg Pound Gangsta spoke about some new music, who knows, we might see something happen in future!

California & Atlanta Make The "SouthWest Click" - September 11, 2006 By : Rud

Carson California is home to some of the emerging talent out here on the westcoast in 2006, most notably Bishop Lamont who signed a deal with Dr. Dre on his Aftermath imprint.
Two other artists from Carson hoping to make similar waves are Blaze-1 and Profit who are two-thirds of of a new collective known as the SouthWest Click. The final member of the crew is Skillz who hails from Atlanta.
So in Atlanta you will find the hit making, state-of-the-art studio, Patchwerk Recording Studios - the team which are planning to bring you their first group in over six years with this project.
Blaze-1 and Profit have grown up together and have been rhyming together for well over 10 years yet it was through their affiliations with Patchwerk Recording Studios, that saw them hooked up with Skillz in early 2001. Blaze-1 and Profit were at that time part of the local Los Angeles trio, Last Word Clique, before they ventured to Atlanta in 2000 to work with Blaze-1's older brother, Curtis Daniel III, who is the COO of Patchwerk and longtime friend of Patchwerk CEO and former Atlanta Falcon, Bob Whitfield.
Growing up in Carson, California (the city north of Long Beach, southwest of Compton) Blaze-1 and Profit, who are now both 23, were constantly surrounded by the notorious Crips and Bloods gangs. While everyone in their hoods were out gangbanging, they always allowed rapping to take precedence over negativity. The two of them spent most of their time busting raps on the block and both cite musical influences from artists including Tupac, Dr. Dre, Snoop Dogg, Ras Kass and Ice Cube
The southern half of the SouthWest Click is brought by the aforementioned Skillz who got his start in music early on. Born and raised in Atlanta, Georgia, 24-year-old Skillz started writing in the 9th grade. Coming from a musical family, (his aunt was part of the 70's group, LaBelle), it didn't take long for him to find his way into music. Skillz, who gets his name from his long list of musical talents such as artist, writer, and producer, has worked on projects with T-Boz of TLC and R&B artist, Nivea. A life-long fan and admirer of UGK, NWA, Outkast, old school and alternative music, Skillz brings witty humor and lyrical finesse to every track the group unleash.
So far they have released some singles and the "Hustle Harder" and "SouthWest Click" mixtapes however they are now turning their attention to their debut album entitled; "SouthernCaliforniaSixtyFourHydraulicMusic." If it bears any resemblance to the similarly titled "Southernplayalisticadillacmuzik" from Outkast then we are in for a real treat.
The album is due to drop later this year however until then, enjoy the music we have below which includes a collaboration with Ras Kass called "Street Fame", their new single "Ridin' Real Slow" and finally "Get Ya Money."
SouthWest Click - Street Fame (Feat. Ras Kass) SouthWest Click - Ridin Real Slow SouthWest Click - Get Ya Money
We will keep you informed on this talented trio as the debut album draws near but until then ensure you catch them on your local radio station and performing at the hottest venues and car shows in your city. To learn more about the SouthWest Click head over to their Official Site.Discuss This Topic

Exclusive intervew with KRS ONE! - September 9, 2006 By : Yash

Dubcnn had the incredible opportunity to sit down and speak in depth to the legend that is, KRS-ONE. While on his European tour we arranged to speak with KRS in the hotel lobby during his stay in Sweden to film this exclusive 20 minute video interview. Fans of Hip-Hop and KRS-ONE will know this is a rarity as KRS is not one who usually gives interviews like this; indeed it even took some persuading from me. In the interview KRS-ONE gets deep on Hip-Hop, the elements and how he feels on the way the genre and the culture has evolved. We also discuss his latest projects and he shares memories of artists including ODB and Big Pun.
This is a moment not to be missed by any fans of Hip-Hop; as always its refreshing to hear from a true teacher and a legend in this industry.

Introducing The Inland Empire's Props - September 8, 2006 By : Lil Jay

The Inland Empire got another new artist on the come up and Dubcnn is here to present it to you. His name is Props and that's what he's out to get. The I.E. rapper has been on the grind for a minute putting in work for his own label Western Konference Entertainment. Props was featured on Dirty Birdy's "Mixtape Volume 2" (which still hasn't been released yet!) on the song "Rollin & Ridin".
But before that joint on the Birdy mixtape, Props was out in New York working with Marley Marl back in 2002.
"I did 8 tracks with him and I was supposed to put out an album, but it never got released. I signed with BMS Records which is a sub-label of Marley Marl's label Cold Chillin. But that didn't work out cause my manager at that time was full of shit. I guess there was a money issue between him and Marley." Props told Dubcnn.
As mentioned earlier, Props was born & raised in the Inland Empire and is also Dirty Birdy's cousin. "I grew up around Dirty Birdy and Sly Boogy." Props continued. "I'm younger than them but I grew up around them. Birdy is my cousin through marriage and Sly is my very next door neighbour, and Bird and Sly are blood cousins, so I been around them all the time. When I was young I used to go out to Riverside to their studio, and I was already rapping but I didn't know the difference between rapping and recording. So they tought me how to deliver."
Props has recently released his album entitled "Where Props Is Due". The 14 track deep album has guest appearances by Fear (featured in the Unsigned Hype in The Source in 2005), Dirty Birdy, Seefor from The Outskertz, Shorty Mo from Homeless Nation, Hi-life Hustlas from West Covina, R&B from PBG. Production on "Where Props Is Due" was handled by Tap Money, Props, Kingsman, JC Beats. "I decided to do an album because everybody is doing mixtapes, so while everybody is going left I go right, so my album will stand out. It's like rappers are only rapping over other rappers beats, so I decidede to record 20 songs with original production, and chose the best 14 songs. People will buy it like that. But I do have a mixtape coming out called "The Mixxtape Murdera". It will be out by the end of September." he said.
Props also stated that he wouldnt turn down an independent deal or even a major deal, as he's doing all of the work himself which keeps him busy 24/7. "Right now I'm talking to The Source about getting the Unsigned Hype. If I get that spot I feel that something major will happen. I feel like I'm pretty much there. I say I'm there because everything that I'm doing, I'm doing it a 100% by myself with nobody backing me and putting money up. From putting my flyers and posters together, to pressing my albums up, to studio time, to features and beats, to everything. Everything is out of my own pocket. So if a label comes and say they wanna help me, that would be the best. So I'm ready!" Props told Dubcnn.
Dubcnn has some exclusive audio from Props below. The first track features Dirty Birdy and is from the "Where Props Is Due" album. The last 2 songs are from his upcoming mixtape "The Mixxtape Murdera".

Drastik hails from Santa Monica and Nudlez from one of the hot beds of new talent Inglewood. Together they are known as Tha Boondocks.
Both possess the ability to produce thought provoking lyrics and together they have styles that compliment each other. Having been together over five years they have taken that time to perfect the craft and site influences from some of the greats. When asked about their goals they explained; "We definately with the westcoast movement to put the west back on top where we belong. A lot of these n-ggas out here are fake as f--k! All our songs are based on a true story, whether its our own or some of our peeps.
The duo also talked about their first release; "We released our first mixtape "Tha Boondoks: Resurrection, Redemption, and Reparations" back in 2004. If you aint got it, make sure you snatch it up now."
Into 2006 and Tha Boondoks have released Volume 2 of this mixtape series aptly titled; "Blood Cuzins: The Westcoast Movement" which is hosted by DJ Warrior and CatDogg (100.3 The Beat). Mixed by DJ Hideo and with material on there from Snoop Dogg, The Game, Knocturnal, J Wells, E White and more it is a mixtape not to be slept on.
All songs on the mixtape are produced by Lil Pops and Meech Wells and it also features drops from Snoop Dogg, The Game, Pharrell, Young Jeezy, T.I., Paul Wall, Mike Jones, David Banner, Twista, Mike Epps, Guy Torry, The Poetess (100.3 The Beat), DJ Modave (100.3 The Beat), DJ Dense (100.3 The Beat) and more.
