news Exclusive Interview With Jihad! - August 30, 2006 By : Zuka

Earlier this week we introduced Jihad to the viewers of Dubcnn, but what is a real introduction without an interview? Exactly! In this Dubcnn exclusive Jihad talks about his controversial name and the message & the passion he brings to the masses through his music. We also talked on how he entered the game beating Jin the MC in a battle and how that opened up doors for him.

Jihad did his Death Before Dishonor mixtape together with DJ Warrior and DJ Nutty, so we talked on that. In the previous Jihad update we already previewed two tracks from this mixtape: Crash and Nigga Datz Hood (featuring Eastwood, Cross & Cook). The story behind Crash is crazy! But the mixtape is more like a street album; it has all original production!

If this wasn't enough, we also talked on how the invasian in Afghanistan affected him. We talked on the bad image of Muslims as well, the war on terror and much much more! Just check it out and read it for yourself!

Exclusive Interview With Jihad (August '06)

news WC Speaks His Mind On Dubcnn [Exclusive Interview] - August 29, 2006 By : Nima

Goddamn, we're back with another monster interview! We sat down with WC for over an hour to chop it up. Dub touched on a lot of different topics in this controversial interview, you don't want to miss this one. Check it out by clicking below:

Exclusive Interview With WC (August 06)

We start off with how he views and feels about the "New West Coast" movement going on as one of the O.G.'s in the game.

We then proceed to take him back down memory lane and talk about the Low Profile days with him and DJ Aladdin, his brother DJ Crazy Toones, hooking up with Coolio and forming the Maad Circle, their deal with Priority Records and why it was a messed up deal.

We go into detail about his solo albums and the recording process surrounding them. Of course, the Westside Connection album and the controversy surrounding "Bow Down". We speak about his relationship with Mack 10 and whether there is a future for Westside Connection.

WC tells us why he thinks he never had the commercial success of an Ice Cube, and if he believes rap music has a negative influence on the youth. Dub kicks a lot of knowledge about the music industry and talks to the youngsters, so all you aspiring rappers, make sure to read between the lines. Find out what happened with 2002's "Ghetto Heisman" and why Def Jam messed up on that project.

After having talked about the mixtape game and why "The CT Experience" is the best mixtape out right now, we finally get to his upcoming solo album "Guilty By Affiliation", which should be dropping around spring. He tells us what approach he's taking on this one and why the independent route was the way to go for him.

That was a quick rundown on this in-depth interview, to read it all, check above or click here.

Send feedback to nima@dubcnn.com or hit up our forums.

news Introducing Sweden's Sensation Lazee [Audio] - August 28, 2006 By : Yash

Mawuli Kulego, aka Lazee Lizzel, came to the world in 1985 and was brought up in Malmö, Sweden, with his mom and two sisters. In 1998, "Mum Kulego" however decided that Malmö didn't provide the right environment for her son. She therefore sent Lazee to London where he could "become something". 6 years later Lazee moves back - with the ambition of finishing his first hip-hop album.

Lazee found hip-hop in the early 90's and wrote his first rhyme as a 10-year old. Back then, it was just for fun - the big turning point came when he heard "Players Anthem" with Notorious BIG. During his years in London, Lazee did several tracks for mixtapes. He also produced music with SkrillaKidz, whose name later on came to inspire the establishment of SkrillaMusic in Malmö.

Back in Sweden with SkrillaMusic, Lazee has been hard at work for the past 2 years and passionately spent most of his time in the recording studio, and now he’s finally ready to face Sweden, as well as the world, with his debut album “It is what it is”.

Dubcnn hooked up with Scandinavia’s tightest rapper to show the world how dope Lazee really is.

Check below for an exclusive album sampler from his upcoming album:

Lazee - Album Sampler

You can also watch his first music video “The Bigga Nigga” by clicking here. The video is produced by Jan Vasquez who is doing the latest Loon video! Be on the lookout for Lazee's debut album dropping late 2006 with featurings from a long line of brilliant producers such as Soul Supreme (KRS One, Big Daddy Kane, Petter), DJ Large (Promoe, MBMA), Collén & Webb (Jeru Da Damaja, Afu Ra), Nicolay (Little Brother), El Sheriffo, Ishi and T-Town.

“It is what it is” has also had the privilege of being hosted by great singers and rappers like Jovan Dais, Joel Ortiz, Link, Adam aka ADL, Wayne Beckford, Million Stylez and Pauline.

news Snoop Dogg "Blue Carpet Treatment" Press Release - August 24, 2006 By : Nima

(New York, NY – August 21, 2006) – Multi-Platinum, Award Winning rapper Snoop Dogg is set to release his eighth solo LP, "Tha Blue Carpet Treatment," this November through Doggystyle/Geffen.

Tha Blue Carpet Treatment” is one of the most highly anticipated new albums of the year and will continue to solidify this hip hop icon as one of the most influential musical entertainers of today.

Throughout each record on the forthcoming release, Snoop takes it back to the basics…back to the ‘hood, showcasing the original gangsta sound that made this Long Beach rapper an instant household name when he made his debut in 1992 on Dr. Dre’s hit song “Deep Cover” and the classic album “The Chronic.” After releasing a string of hit records on his last effort that carried a more commercial sound, such as the #1 mega-hit “Drop It Like It’s Hot” featuring Pharrell, the rapper decided this time around to bring back Snoop Dogg, the O.G., for his fans. Producers who collaborated on “Tha Blue Carpet Treatment” include hit makers Dr. Dre, Timbaland, Rick Rock, Pharrell, among others; along with guest appearances by artists such as Stevie Wonder, Ice Cube, The Game, Brandy, R. Kelly and MC Eiht.

The premiere single, produced by Pharrell, titled "Vato," featuring B Real from Cypress Hill is a gritty street record that tells an everyday story from the rough LA streets that only the Dogg himself can tell. The video for the single, which was directed by Phillip Atwell, plays like a short cinematic film with an important underlying message: the need for black and brown unity, especially in the wake of violence in recent months in Los Angeles. With Snoop starring as an O.G. and B Real as a Latino gang member, the video also boasts guest appearances by rap veteran Kid Frost and Oscar nominated actor Edward James Olmos to bring attention to an unfortunate, but real issue that continues to plague communities today. Through this groundbreaking video, Snoop is looking to leverage his street credibility and knowledge to launch a much needed push for unity.

"It's about time we start to fight for each other rather than fighting against each other. I have homies from all cultural backgrounds and love all of my brothers, black and brown. There is nothing that can stop us from creating a better future for ourselves, for our families and generations to come if we all came together," says Snoop Dogg.

This is not the superstar’s first attempt to bring forth social awareness to important issues. Last year, he held a peace summit dubbed “Protect the West” to end all feuds between rap artists from the West Coast. Snoop also participated in rallies to save Stanley “Tookie” Williams, an ex-gang member on death row who spearheaded the truce between the “Bloods” and “Crips.”

The highly anticipated world premiere of “Vato” will make its video debut on August 30th on “BET’s Access Granted.”

Look for any updates on the album right here on dubcnn.

news Slo-Mo Releases New Mixtape "Move In Silence" - August 22, 2006 By : Lil Jay

There are constantly new artists emerging from the Coast, some who talk a lot but ain't really saying nothing, and then those who move in silence while letting the music do the talking. One of the latter ones happens to be Slo-Mo. Ever since the 808 rapper released his first solo project "The One Man Gang" in 2005 (featuring one of the best underground joints "Throw Down"), he has been featured on Dubcnn numerous times (after receiving his first coverage on Westcoast2k.net).

Having followed his music pretty closely, I can safely say that Slo-Mo is definitely doing it the right way while bringing the realness to the table. Slo has just released his new mixtape entitled "Move In Silence" and it was mixed by the Bay Area Mix Tape Kings The Demolition Men. The inspiration behind the title is basically his opinion on the current state of Hip Hop. As mentioned, there is too much flash and fireworks going on but no truth and no substance coming out of the music. So in summary, moving in silence is the way Slo-Mo rolls, without any bragging or fake threats.

The overall feel of the album is very pleasing, if you're a fan of that good ole boom bap combined with some West Coast slaps you need to check this out. As for the song selection and features, Slo-Mo offers 25 songs on the mixtape with a couple familiar tracks which we premiered on this site a while ago, like "Put U On It" featuring Mistah F.A.B., or the amazing cut "Trippin On It". Production comes from Keelay of the Sole Vibe, Slapp Symphony, Veterano, and Illmind (who has a bright future ahead of him).

For more information or to order a copy of "Move In Silence", hit up Slo-Mo's MySpace page.

Below is a tracklist and a couple tracks for preview:

01. Intro / XXL prod. by Slo-Mo
02. Dedicate 808 feat. Wun
03. Plan B feat. Fortilive (Mush Mouf, Slo-Mo, and Illmind) prod. by Illmind

05. Left Cyde Story prod. by Slo-Mo

news Exclusive Infra Redd Update [Audio + News] - August 22, 2006 By : Nima

Compton up and comer Infra Redd has recently aligned with Proline Records and has been working on his new mixtape. Being DJ Quik's nephew and Suga Free's right hand man allowed Infra Redd to get a taste of the music business before releasing his own project, and he's convinced to pursue that route and make his mark in the game.

He hooked up with Street Lotto, whose collaboration with Daz Dillinger we brought you recently ("Doggheadz (Remix)". They knocked out a heatrock called "Getcha Mind Right", where they use the infamous Liquor Store audio from "Menace II Society", followed by Infra Redd and Lotto trading verses.

"Getcha Mind Right" will both be featured on Infra Redd's upcoming 12-track mixtape, as well as Street Lotto's new solo album "Game-N-Fortune", both dropping on Proline Records. Check it out:

Infra Redd & Street Lotto - Getcha Mind Right

As we reported earlier this month Compton MC Problem aligned with the Cali Untouchable DJs to release his third mixtape outing that is buzzing in the streets called; "The Future." "The Future" is exactly that, new material with exclusive production from Dae One [Scipio, Roccett, Noni Spitz, Chevy Jones, Damizza, Murs and M.I.A], Dem Jointz [Tha Frontlinerz, Roccett and Ya Boy] as well as THX amongst others.

As far as vocal collaborations, he's rounded up nothing but the best out from the West in Glasses Malone, Mykestro, Bad Lucc, Fate Williams, Young Hootie and more.

More of a street album than a mixtape, "The Future" sees 31 tracks of orginal music serve as a teaser for Problem's upcoming release, "Watch Me," which is set to feature 19 heavy hitting tracks alongside a bonus DVD.

We have been provided with a track that is not featured on the mixtape but one that has been building up his fanbase since its release the cut is called "F-ck U" and is produced by Dow Jones. Check it out below and drop your feedback on our forums.

news Ya Boy Is Ready To Make History - August 18, 2006 By : Rud

It's been a long but short road to the top for the young rap phenomenon Ya Boy. Around this time last year, he was preparing the release of his debut solo album, "Rookie of The Year," and now a year later almost to the day, he has taken things up notches above the rest.

As a fast learner he has proven that he's also a fast achiever, creating a large fanbase for himself that spans the entire globe, from Los Angeles to Europe. Since hitting LA earlier in the year to find more opportunities for himself, YB didn't have to knock doors down to get in the game, they opened for him.

His undeniable gift to spit has brought him endless success and notability, and alongside his mentor and business partner Phat Rat, he has rubbed shoulders with greats and celebrities, and is quickly reaching that same level of recognition.

"In my short time in the rap game I did the unthinkable. I dont think anybody in this world can do what I do. I'm a fast learner and I just get better every single day. I definitely grew. I broke out the cocoon. When I first started rapping I was just a kid. 18 years old, didn't know the ropes, I didn't do anything but just rap. I grew. I been studying n-ggas, I'm in the industry now. I'm looking at things differently. I'm vibing, traveling," explains Ya Boy.

Ya Boy has also been working with platinum producers and major factors in the music industry. With songs on Johnathan 'JR' Rotem tracks, as well as collaborations with inhouse BWS producer Nu Jerzey Devil, and an up and coming young producer from North Carolina, D1, Ya Boy definitely has the right ammo to bring the world even more hits. One of the latest milestones was his track, "100 Bars of Crack" in which Ya Boy kept listeners mesmerized for a span of 100 bars of rap lines. He hit the world off with quotable after quotable and never become stagnant, all in a span of 5 minutes. After hearing Game's series of tracks 100-300, it influenced him to try his hand at a song of that magnitude. With the recently released Black Wallstreet Journal under The Game's BWS imprint, many have called him the breakout star of the project and all eyes are on him, just as they were on the late 2Pac 10 years ago.

"2Pac is actually my biggest influence, I would listen to his music and just get goosebumps. I'm trying to give off that same feeling. I'm trying to send chills down people's spines cause it's so real. That flow. I stopped gettin that from rap. I'm trying to give that to people," stated Ya Boy.

Coming off the heels of the BWS mixtape as well as other projects such as Clinton Sparks and E-Rock's "Welcome to US of Bay" among other nationwide mixtapes, the buzz has been tremendous and it's only a matter of time before Ya Boy finds his home on a major as he explained: "I'm in talks with a few majors. They definitely eatin' Ya Boy up. I won't give names, but I guarantee you within the next 2 months you will hear who I am signed with. I feel that hip hop definitely needs Ya Boy and major is the only way to go."

With his cocky demeanor and confident way of carrying himself, some have criticized and questioned if he was a bit too arrogant or into himself. Ya Boy states that it's only an essential quality to feel that way in order to be a leader. "If I was to sit up here and say that other people are better than me and not tell you I'm this good, you would feel like you aint f-ckin with me. If I don't believe that I'm the best, nobody else will."

As someone who stays true to his roots and remembers his humble beginnings, Ya Boy made his start in the bay and still represents that in nearly every track he spits on. One of the prominent figures in the birth of his rap career was his big cousin, San Quinn, who still holds a good relationship with him. Since Ya Boy left Done Deal to further his career, rumors ran rampant and people questioned whether the cousins were still maintaining that close relationship. "Me and San Quinn are blood," Ya Boy emphasizes. "Alot of people love to stir that sh-t up and say we beefing. We will never beef. We might get mad at each other at times, that's a normal part of a family; but then we'll be cool that night. If anything went down he always had my back and I still got his."

From this point on the only way from here is to the top, and Ya Boy confidently states that he is ready to face the pressure, ready to lead the west coast as a young leader of the pack; ""Like my cousin Quinn said, pressure makes diamonds. It is alot of pressure to put on somebody, especially someone as young as me. I'm ready to help carry this coast man, I got a gift. I ain't got no choice but to use it. I'm gonna take this to the highest level and put on a show. I'm gonna put on a show for the world. You will see why I am the next coming."

Ya Boy is quoted as being "the show after The Game" and showtime is almost here, with Ya Boy's own DJ Skee presented mixtape around the corner, you won't want to miss a minute of this show. No commercial breaks here, the 'Prince of the Bay' is ready to hit you off with season after season.

Check out the track we recently premiered from Ya Boy and The Game from "BWS Journal Volume 1" entitled; What's Beef. Stay tuned to dubcnn for the latest on Ya Boy or visit his official MySpace.

news Eazy-E's Latino Protégés Release "The Takeover" - August 16, 2006 By : Rud

The late Eazy-E's only Latino protégés, The Brownside, have just released their sophomore album, "The Takeover." Their debut album, "Eastside Drama," issued in 1995 had been slated for release through Eazy's Ruthless Records label, until the Compton rapper’s tragic death ended a solid paper trail of release agreements that had been signed between himself and the intensely street oriented gangsta rappers. The long awaited return with "The Takeover," shows The Brownside's determination to become a factor in the game once again over a decade since they first emerged.

Wicked, Trouble and Toker are the trio that make up The Brownside, the latter of whom is currently serving time for a sentence in a federal prison; "I expect to be out of here by the end of next year," Toker explained.

Eazy's son, Lil E, still has memories of his father’s close friend Toker from when they escorted the then ten-year old mini E around Disneyland. Toker explained; "I can’t wait to see Lil E when I am out of here, I have a lot to tell him about his father." Eazy-E and Toker were such a fixture, that in Jerry Heller’s upcoming book, "Ruthless," slated for release in late August, he begins describing the end of Eric’s life by writing, "Only a handful of people were closest to Eric in the weeks leading up to his death. Toker, aka Little Beaver, his Latino street connection. The mixmaster Julio G." Heller also cites The Brownside in relation to Eric’s both visionary and deep desire to become involved in the Latin rap movement, a move that ceased with his sudden death. Eazy-E appeared on the group's debut album, which was recorded shortly before his death. Wicked explained; "Toker and Eazy were blood brothers. Eazy was so supportive of us, he kept trying to talk us into changing the name of the group to M.W.A., but we never did. He was relentless about it. He even wrote these little notes in the studio, trying to convince us. Eric was really looking forward to releasing our group on Ruthless, and we played some dates with Eazy and Bone Thugs-N-Harmony."

Wicked cites "La Despendida (Farewell)" as his favorite track on the group’s second album, which is released by P.R. Records. As fate would have it, Trouble and Toker originally met in prison. Toker has stated, "We’re not rappers trying to be gangstas, we’re gangstas trying to be rappers."

With songs on "The Takeover" inluding 'Life Of A G, 'Who We Are' and 'It Ain’t Easy' The Brownside stay true to their roots that made Eazy-E take notice. Trouble explained; "We are representing Southside L.A., also known as “The Skanless. But we know that a lot of other people are relating to the album, as well." While Wicked notes, "Toker brings the high life from the street, Trouble brings the drama from on street, and I bring my own experience from the street."

Lookout for "The Takeover" release in your local record store and support The Brownside with their sophomore effort.

news Mr. Capone-E Comments On Snoop Interview; New Music - August 8, 2006 By : Lil Jay

Dubcnn received tremendous feedback for the Snoop Dogg interview the last couple days, from both fans and artists. One of the many artists who reached out to embrace the unity was Mr. Capone-E.

Capone-E and the Hi Power Entertainment camp wanted people to know that they are definitely a force to be reckoned with on the West Coast. "We at Hi Power have sold close to a million records in the last year alone, with swap meets and soundscan combined. We run the streets of the West Coast swap meets and all chain stores. We are the streets and we are coming up with our artists Bizzy Bone, Layzie Bone, Lil Flip, MC Eiht & Compton's Most Wanted." Mr. Capone-E told Dubcnn.com in an exclusive statement.

"We haven't really spoken our minds but since this is an issue about the West I'm here letting people know we are the West. We respect Snoop for being of the pioneers of the West and we recognize what he has done, but Hi Power is blowing up with or without anyones approval period! So when it comes to vatos, we are the vatos of the West Coast. On that note I would like to show respect to Snoop on the black & brown unity." Mr. Capone-E continued.

Capone-E has a lot to say, and the full story will be told on his upcoming album "Don't Get It Twisted" due out August 29th. We've already premiered the lead single from the album a while ago, the self-titled cut "Don't Get It Twisted" featuring Twista.

Capone-E has just laced Dubcnn with yet another exclusive song from the new album called "The New West Coast" which reflects his statement. The song features Lil Eazy-E on a verse with production and talkbox by Fingazz. Hit the link to download the song:

news Snoop Dogg & Dubcnn - The Interview: Part 4 - August 5, 2006 By : Nima

It's here! We've arrived at the fourth and final part of our exclusive interview with Snoop Dogg. The first three parts were so packed with exclusive information that it had people wishing the interview would never end. Unfortunately, Part 4 is the last part of this interview, but we've already planned the next interview with Snoop Dogg, so stay tuned!

For now, check out Part 4 below:

Snoop Dogg & Dubcnn - The Interview: Part 4

In Part 4, Snoop talks about working with Pharrell, why he doesn't get Dr. Dre to do his whole record, and what he thinks of people claiming Dr. Dre steals beats from people without giving them their proper credit.

We go into detail regarding the production of The Chronic and other Death Row albums, as well as Snoop's views on Dr. Dre, Daz and others as producers.

Snoop Dogg explains why dubcnn is a good way for him to speak his mind compared to other internet companies, and we end the interview with some more words on Spider Loc, 40 Glocc and Crooked I.

Also, for those wanting the final answer on whether Dr. Dre has production on "Blue Carpet Treatment" or not, the answer is in Part 4!

We hope you enjoyed this exclusive four-part feature with Tha Doggfather. We have another Hip-Hop legend getting ready to hit dubcnn VERY soon, I won't reveal who it is yet, but it's gonna get crazy again!

news Sly Boogy, Crooked I & Kam "Keep On" With The System - August 5, 2006 By : Rud

It doesn't get much harder than this for a line up; does it? The Inland Empire's hottest rhyme spitter Sly Boogy has aligned with Long Beach' own Crooked I and Watts' notorious Kam to record a track which is sure to get the fans hyped.

The L.A. production team The System have blessed us with this cut which is set to feature on their Compilation album entitled; "Flood The West" due out at the end of 2006. The System explained how the collaboration with the trio came out on their MySpace page;

"Let me say nuff respect to Sly, Crooked, & Kam for blessing us with this coloaboration. It was a pleasure working with them! How did it Come about? We'll I met Sly last year 2005. I got a call from Bishop Lamont, during the time we were working on songs for Dr. Dre's still unreleased LP "Detox", saying that a DJ by the name of F Sharp [Dubcnn Affiliate] from San Diego was doing a mixtape and needed a spot to have a few artist come and drop some verses. I was like cool. We spoke a few times to agree on an arrangement that was mutually beneficial. Soon afterwards I got a call from Sly Boogy saying that he was supposed to come through my spot (The Sweat Box) and lay a verse on DJ Quik's 'Fandango'. When Sly Boogy came through I was definately humbled by how cool he was and soon began talking about Ghana (where I'm from) and a friend of his that was from there too. By the end of the session, He was leaving with a CD of beats. Two weeks later he hit me and asked if a beat that he heard on the CD was still available? I told him yes and he said that he was working on something for it and would call when he was ready to recorded it."

"Fast Forward 2 months later. He calls and sets a day to come through and record. When he comes through he is with two ladies TK aka Ms. King and Apryl. He said he wanted a hook sang. Sly stepped to the Mic to lay down what we thought then was a ruff of the Hook. As he began to sing the hook everyone in the room was amazed not only that Sly had a good voice but at how sick the hook was. It was a hit!!! Ms. TK got on the mic and did her thang and it was a wrap! The next day I sent a ruff version to Sly aia email and he said he was gonna see who else he could get on it. He tried to get Kurupt, Jayo Felony, Roscoe, and a few others. Crooked I was the first to get back. He was with it. He knocked it out and sent over the vocals. As we were still thinking of who else would be on the song, I got a call from my boy One Punch. I told him about the song and he immediately thought of Kam. He made the call and Kam came through a few nights later and knocked it out! Now Kam is also cool as f-ck! We were on some African shit too! Him and Sly are like family right now, they come by and chill with us! We put something on the grill and its a BBQ! Anyway I hope you enjoy the fruits of our labor!"

So as ever dubcnn is here with audio from the collaboration including both radio and explicit versions so fans can bump it loud while DJ's and radio can get on this straight away. Don't miss out on this smooth track with echo's of R&B and that feel of decades gone by sultry vocals.

Sly Boogy - Keep On (Explicit) (Feat. Crooked I & Kam)

news Custom Made Sign To BabyGrande Records - August 5, 2006 By : Rud

The westcoast now has representation on one of the biggest emerging record labels in the industry. BabyGrande. The well known underground collective known as Custom Made have signed a deal which includes a mixtape due out in September including a DVD followed by the groups official debut album in 2007.

Over the years they have been together they have drawn comparisons to the likes of Wu-Tang and Mobb Deep while all the time creating a strong buzz in the streets of L.A.

Having moved over 100,000 mixtapes on the strength of the music and their own street savvy they saw national noteriety earlier this year when L.A.s DJ Warrior featured the group on his Cali Untouchable Ice Cube Mixtape.

"Custom Made has a sound and feel that you dont expect to hear and see coming out of L.A. To me their music is a fusion of all aspects of LA hip-hop culture presented in an entirely new manner and that originality and realness is what makes everyone from bangers to battlers feel their music. All of them are either 19 or 20 years old so they truly represent a new generation of hip-hop" exlained Chuck Wilson of BabyGrande.

news Introducing Hayward's Hylite - August 4, 2006 By : Lil Jay

Hylite is a group of 3 emcees originating from Hayward, CA. The name Hylite has quickly drawn recognition in the streets of Hayward with only a few mixtapes notched in their repertoire. The trio is composed of Showtime, Ash, and AK; all of whom are in their early twenties. Related by blood and bound by their passion for music, Hylite finished their debut album "The Hylite Reel," featuring 19 tracks of independent production, coordination and mastering.

The album features an all-star Bay Area lineup including production guru Sean T, The Team, Ya Boy, Big Rich, including a few others. However, most of the album is a showcase of the Hayward trio, including an array of production by Hylite's own Showtime.

From the Fiji Islands by descent, what sets Hylite apart from the rest is not their racial association, but their ability to harmonize together in and out of the studio, which is apparent in their music. Hylite adds their own twist to rap/hip hop music with their versatility, originality and their drive to go against the grain--as well as adding a unique fusion of Island and Middle Eastern style with contemporary hip hop.

Dubcnn has some music from the "The Hylite Reel" available for download:

news Snoop Dogg & Dubcnn - The Interview: Part 3 - August 1, 2006 By : Nima

Part 2 caused an uproar amongst fans due to the comments Snoop Dogg made towards Crooked I, and Crook got to speak his part of the story in an exclusive interview we conducted with him the same day. That was only the second part of our four-part feature on Snoop Dogg.

It's time for Part 3, check it out below:

Snoop Dogg & Dubcnn - The Interview: Part 3

In Part 3, we start off with the question about The Game and the Change Of Heart tape, and whether Snoop believes that that hurt Game's credibilty. He speaks on Dogghouse producer Terrace Martin and why we're only getting to hear him now, aswell as some more info on "Blue Carpet Treatment", and why he chose to go back to the hood with this one.

The main topic in Part 3 however is Dr. Dre. Snoop goes in depth, tells us how he wishes the good Doctor would come back to the West Coast, and put some New West artists on, as well as his work process, the "Detox" project, and more.

We end this part with the question about Snoop Dogg selling out, and why he chose to do the moves that he did.

Be on the lookout for Part 4, where Snoop talks about working with Pharrell, why he doesn't get Dr.

Dre has production on "Blue Carpet Treatment" or not, you will get your answer in Part 4! Stay tuned to dubcnn.

news "Funk Season" Is Approaching Courtesy Of K-Active - August 1, 2006 By : Rud

Today we have some fresh new music from an artist who is no stranger to dubcnn having been featured alongside Inglewood's Disko. Now its his turn to shine with a street album being finalised for release by the end of the month; its time for the world to get - K-Aktive.

Raised in Inglewood, he started rapping in 1995 and was a part of a group called Looneytic Pimps which his brother had formed. New to the game he was simply looking to develop a style into which he could grow as an artist.

His brother Mr. Faze, an entrepreneur for many years pushed hard for his younger brother to succeed, but in 2002 Mr. Faze fell 30 feet through the skylight of a large commercial building. Just prior to this event K-Active and his brother had completed a mixtape however that has never seen the light of day. Over the coming year his brother slowly went through recovery undergoing several surgeries to rectify the damage, all this took its toll on K-Active however as time went on it made him stronger and more agressive to get his music heard.

Along the way he also had the tragic loss of childhood friend Bryan "Baby Boy" Brown. Baby Boy was a producer and hook singer who he made around thirty songs with before his murder. Dissilusioned he took some time and in that space he met Disko through a mutual friend who was a producer. He helped encourage K-Active that it was possible to get back and get his music heard. They put together all new music and formed a group by the name New West. Having done some shows they released a mixtape called "Inglewood Mixtape Volume 1" - this led K-Active to getting behind his music once again 100%.

Currently K-Aktive is building Put It N My Pocket Entertainment (Pimp Entertainment) with in house producers Disko and Money Miles. He has artists in development including Mo B, Hogg and Lady Vix - however right now its his turn with his street album "Funk Season."

We have audio from the project including a single called "Stand Up" which is produced by long time dubcnn supported producer J-Steez. The two other tracks are - "Dopeman", which has that NWA feel thanks to a knocking beat by Compton's Problem who is an issue both in the booth and behind the boards; the second cut is "Lets Roll" which features Problem & Sequel with another classic beat by Dae One.

K-Active - Stand Up (Produced By. J-Steez)
K-Active - Lets Roll (Feat. Problem & Sequel) (Produced By. Dae One)
K-Active - Dopeman (Produced By. Problem)

Stay tuned to dubcnn.com for the latest on the New West, Old West, Middle-Aged West - it don't matter - we got it!!
