Exclusive Interview With Jihad! - August 30, 2006 By : Zuka

Earlier this week we introduced Jihad to the viewers of Dubcnn, but what is a real introduction without an interview? Exactly! In this Dubcnn exclusive Jihad talks about his controversial name and the message & the passion he brings to the masses through his music. We also talked on how he entered the game beating Jin the MC in a battle and how that opened up doors for him.
Jihad did his Death Before Dishonor mixtape together with DJ Warrior and DJ Nutty, so we talked on that. In the previous Jihad update we already previewed two tracks from this mixtape: Crash and Nigga Datz Hood (featuring Eastwood, Cross & Cook). The story behind Crash is crazy! But the mixtape is more like a street album; it has all original production!
If this wasn't enough, we also talked on how the invasian in Afghanistan affected him. We talked on the bad image of Muslims as well, the war on terror and much much more! Just check it out and read it for yourself!

WC Speaks His Mind On Dubcnn [Exclusive Interview] - August 29, 2006 By : Nima

Goddamn, we're back with another monster interview! We sat down with WC for over an hour to chop it up. Dub touched on a lot of different topics in this controversial interview, you don't want to miss this one. Check it out by clicking below:
Exclusive Interview With WC (August 06)
We start off with how he views and feels about the "New West Coast" movement going on as one of the O.G.'s in the game.
We then proceed to take him back down memory lane and talk about the Low Profile days with him and DJ Aladdin, his brother DJ Crazy Toones, hooking up with Coolio and forming the Maad Circle, their deal with Priority Records and why it was a messed up deal.
We go into detail about his solo albums and the recording process surrounding them. Of course, the Westside Connection album and the controversy surrounding "Bow Down". We speak about his relationship with Mack 10 and whether there is a future for Westside Connection.
WC tells us why he thinks he never had the commercial success of an Ice Cube, and if he believes rap music has a negative influence on the youth. Dub kicks a lot of knowledge about the music industry and talks to the youngsters, so all you aspiring rappers, make sure to read between the lines. Find out what happened with 2002's "Ghetto Heisman" and why Def Jam messed up on that project.
After having talked about the mixtape game and why "The CT Experience" is the best mixtape out right now, we finally get to his upcoming solo album "Guilty By Affiliation", which should be dropping around spring. He tells us what approach he's taking on this one and why the independent route was the way to go for him.
That was a quick rundown on this in-depth interview, to read it all, check above or click here.

Introducing Sweden's Sensation Lazee [Audio] - August 28, 2006 By : Yash

Mawuli Kulego, aka Lazee Lizzel, came to the world in 1985 and was brought up in Malmö, Sweden, with his mom and two sisters. In 1998, "Mum Kulego" however decided that Malmö didn't provide the right environment for her son. She therefore sent Lazee to London where he could "become something". 6 years later Lazee moves back - with the ambition of finishing his first hip-hop album.
Lazee found hip-hop in the early 90's and wrote his first rhyme as a 10-year old. Back then, it was just for fun - the big turning point came when he heard "Players Anthem" with Notorious BIG. During his years in London, Lazee did several tracks for mixtapes. He also produced music with SkrillaKidz, whose name later on came to inspire the establishment of SkrillaMusic in Malmö.
Back in Sweden with SkrillaMusic, Lazee has been hard at work for the past 2 years and passionately spent most of his time in the recording studio, and now he’s finally ready to face Sweden, as well as the world, with his debut album “It is what it is”.
Dubcnn hooked up with Scandinavia’s tightest rapper to show the world how dope Lazee really is.
Check below for an exclusive album sampler from his upcoming album:
Lazee - Album Sampler
You can also watch his first music video “The Bigga Nigga” by clicking here. The video is produced by Jan Vasquez who is doing the latest Loon video! Be on the lookout for Lazee's debut album dropping late 2006 with featurings from a long line of brilliant producers such as Soul Supreme (KRS One, Big Daddy Kane, Petter), DJ Large (Promoe, MBMA), Collén & Webb (Jeru Da Damaja, Afu Ra), Nicolay (Little Brother), El Sheriffo, Ishi and T-Town.
“It is what it is” has also had the privilege of being hosted by great singers and rappers like Jovan Dais, Joel Ortiz, Link, Adam aka ADL, Wayne Beckford, Million Stylez and Pauline.

Plenty New Album Credits In The Vault - August 24, 2006 By : Jome

The #1 Spot For Album Credits, The Vault has been updated with 86 new album credits, and it's been a hectic month for new albums. Check out the index at Dubcnn The Vault or The Vault Index in our forum, where you can also see artist/producer discographies and videographies, created and updated by our forum members.
The last months new hiphop albums: Big Noyd dropped The Stick Up Kid without too much fuss, Defari came up with some new Street Music with production from Alchemist, Evidence, E-Swift and more.
DMX didn't retire, but put out Year Of The Dog Again with cameos from Busta Rhymes, Jadakiss, Styles P., Big Stan, and production from Swizz Beatz, Scott Storch, Tuneheadz, etc. We got the early tracklist for Lloyd Banks' new album Rotten Apple, with Scarface, 9th Wonder, Eminem, 50 Cent, Mobb Deep and more on board, Method Man's new album 4:21... The Day After is ready to drop later this month, with production from Scott Storch, Havoc, Kwame, Erick Sermon, The RZA, and cameos from Wu-Tang, Redman, Styles P. and more. By now, you've probably heard about Obie Trice dropping Second Round's On Me to a poor first week on the Soundscan (74K), Outkast delivered Idlewild, with a nice guest list and a heavy set of musicians, Ras Kass' Eat Or Die got pushed back to Sept 19th, and Rick Ross is experiencing a little taste of commercial success with Port Of Miami.
For the pop/r'n'b-fans, we got some other hiphop related releases as well; Christina Aguilera picked up DJ Premier, Kwame & Mark Ronson for her album Back To Basics, Bad Boy Ent. put out girl group Danity Kane, and copped some beats from Timbaland, Scott Storch & Mario Winans to their self-titled Danity Kane album, Kelis is no stranger to hiphop cameos, and chose Cool & Dre, Scott Storch & Will.I.Am for her new album Kelis Was Here, LeToya is back, and hollered at Just Blaze, J.R., Scott Storch, Jermaine Dupri & Jazze Pha for her self-titled album LeToya, and Paris Hilton made Scott Storch make most of her album Paris Is Burning.

Snoop Dogg "Blue Carpet Treatment" Press Release - August 24, 2006 By : Nima

(New York, NY – August 21, 2006) – Multi-Platinum, Award Winning rapper Snoop Dogg is set to release his eighth solo LP, "Tha Blue Carpet Treatment," this November through Doggystyle/Geffen.
“Tha Blue Carpet Treatment” is one of the most highly anticipated new albums of the year and will continue to solidify this hip hop icon as one of the most influential musical entertainers of today.
Throughout each record on the forthcoming release, Snoop takes it back to the basics…back to the ‘hood, showcasing the original gangsta sound that made this Long Beach rapper an instant household name when he made his debut in 1992 on Dr. Dre’s hit song “Deep Cover” and the classic album “The Chronic.” After releasing a string of hit records on his last effort that carried a more commercial sound, such as the #1 mega-hit “Drop It Like It’s Hot” featuring Pharrell, the rapper decided this time around to bring back Snoop Dogg, the O.G., for his fans. Producers who collaborated on “Tha Blue Carpet Treatment” include hit makers Dr. Dre, Timbaland, Rick Rock, Pharrell, among others; along with guest appearances by artists such as Stevie Wonder, Ice Cube, The Game, Brandy, R. Kelly and MC Eiht.
The premiere single, produced by Pharrell, titled "Vato," featuring B Real from Cypress Hill is a gritty street record that tells an everyday story from the rough LA streets that only the Dogg himself can tell. The video for the single, which was directed by Phillip Atwell, plays like a short cinematic film with an important underlying message: the need for black and brown unity, especially in the wake of violence in recent months in Los Angeles. With Snoop starring as an O.G. and B Real as a Latino gang member, the video also boasts guest appearances by rap veteran Kid Frost and Oscar nominated actor Edward James Olmos to bring attention to an unfortunate, but real issue that continues to plague communities today. Through this groundbreaking video, Snoop is looking to leverage his street credibility and knowledge to launch a much needed push for unity.
"It's about time we start to fight for each other rather than fighting against each other. I have homies from all cultural backgrounds and love all of my brothers, black and brown. There is nothing that can stop us from creating a better future for ourselves, for our families and generations to come if we all came together," says Snoop Dogg.
This is not the superstar’s first attempt to bring forth social awareness to important issues. Last year, he held a peace summit dubbed “Protect the West” to end all feuds between rap artists from the West Coast. Snoop also participated in rallies to save Stanley “Tookie” Williams, an ex-gang member on death row who spearheaded the truce between the “Bloods” and “Crips.”
The highly anticipated world premiere of “Vato” will make its video debut on August 30th on “BET’s Access Granted.”
Look for any updates on the album right here on dubcnn.Discuss This Topic

Slo-Mo Releases New Mixtape "Move In Silence" - August 22, 2006 By : Lil Jay

There are constantly new artists emerging from the Coast, some who talk a lot but ain't really saying nothing, and then those who move in silence while letting the music do the talking. One of the latter ones happens to be Slo-Mo. Ever since the 808 rapper released his first solo project "The One Man Gang" in 2005 (featuring one of the best underground joints "Throw Down"), he has been featured on Dubcnn numerous times (after receiving his first coverage on Westcoast2k.net).
Having followed his music pretty closely, I can safely say that Slo-Mo is definitely doing it the right way while bringing the realness to the table. Slo has just released his new mixtape entitled "Move In Silence" and it was mixed by the Bay Area Mix Tape Kings The Demolition Men. The inspiration behind the title is basically his opinion on the current state of Hip Hop. As mentioned, there is too much flash and fireworks going on but no truth and no substance coming out of the music. So in summary, moving in silence is the way Slo-Mo rolls, without any bragging or fake threats.
The overall feel of the album is very pleasing, if you're a fan of that good ole boom bap combined with some West Coast slaps you need to check this out. As for the song selection and features, Slo-Mo offers 25 songs on the mixtape with a couple familiar tracks which we premiered on this site a while ago, like "Put U On It" featuring Mistah F.A.B., or the amazing cut "Trippin On It". Production comes from Keelay of the Sole Vibe, Slapp Symphony, Veterano, and Illmind (who has a bright future ahead of him).
For more information or to order a copy of "Move In Silence", hit up Slo-Mo's MySpace page.
Below is a tracklist and a couple tracks for preview:

Compton up and comer Infra Redd has recently aligned with Proline Records and has been working on his new mixtape. Being DJ Quik's nephew and Suga Free's right hand man allowed Infra Redd to get a taste of the music business before releasing his own project, and he's convinced to pursue that route and make his mark in the game.
He hooked up with Street Lotto, whose collaboration with Daz Dillinger we brought you recently ("Doggheadz (Remix)". They knocked out a heatrock called "Getcha Mind Right", where they use the infamous Liquor Store audio from "Menace II Society", followed by Infra Redd and Lotto trading verses.

Problem Outlines His Intent On "F-ck U" - August 22, 2006 By : Rud

As we reported earlier this month Compton MC Problem aligned with the Cali Untouchable DJs to release his third mixtape outing that is buzzing in the streets called; "The Future." "The Future" is exactly that, new material with exclusive production from Dae One [Scipio, Roccett, Noni Spitz, Chevy Jones, Damizza, Murs and M.I.A], Dem Jointz [Tha Frontlinerz, Roccett and Ya Boy] as well as THX amongst others.
As far as vocal collaborations, he's rounded up nothing but the best out from the West in Glasses Malone, Mykestro, Bad Lucc, Fate Williams, Young Hootie and more.
More of a street album than a mixtape, "The Future" sees 31 tracks of orginal music serve as a teaser for Problem's upcoming release, "Watch Me," which is set to feature 19 heavy hitting tracks alongside a bonus DVD.
We have been provided with a track that is not featured on the mixtape but one that has been building up his fanbase since its release the cut is called "F-ck U" and is produced by Dow Jones. Check it out below and drop your feedback on our forums.

Ya Boy Is Ready To Make History - August 18, 2006 By : Rud

It's been a long but short road to the top for the young rap phenomenon Ya Boy. Around this time last year, he was preparing the release of his debut solo album, "Rookie of The Year," and now a year later almost to the day, he has taken things up notches above the rest.
As a fast learner he has proven that he's also a fast achiever, creating a large fanbase for himself that spans the entire globe, from Los Angeles to Europe. Since hitting LA earlier in the year to find more opportunities for himself, YB didn't have to knock doors down to get in the game, they opened for him.
His undeniable gift to spit has brought him endless success and notability, and alongside his mentor and business partner Phat Rat, he has rubbed shoulders with greats and celebrities, and is quickly reaching that same level of recognition.
"In my short time in the rap game I did the unthinkable. I dont think anybody in this world can do what I do. I'm a fast learner and I just get better every single day. I definitely grew. I broke out the cocoon. When I first started rapping I was just a kid. 18 years old, didn't know the ropes, I didn't do anything but just rap. I grew. I been studying n-ggas, I'm in the industry now. I'm looking at things differently. I'm vibing, traveling," explains Ya Boy.
Ya Boy has also been working with platinum producers and major factors in the music industry. With songs on Johnathan 'JR' Rotem tracks, as well as collaborations with inhouse BWS producer Nu Jerzey Devil, and an up and coming young producer from North Carolina, D1, Ya Boy definitely has the right ammo to bring the world even more hits. One of the latest milestones was his track, "100 Bars of Crack" in which Ya Boy kept listeners mesmerized for a span of 100 bars of rap lines. He hit the world off with quotable after quotable and never become stagnant, all in a span of 5 minutes. After hearing Game's series of tracks 100-300, it influenced him to try his hand at a song of that magnitude. With the recently released Black Wallstreet Journal under The Game's BWS imprint, many have called him the breakout star of the project and all eyes are on him, just as they were on the late 2Pac 10 years ago.
"2Pac is actually my biggest influence, I would listen to his music and just get goosebumps. I'm trying to give off that same feeling. I'm trying to send chills down people's spines cause it's so real. That flow. I stopped gettin that from rap. I'm trying to give that to people," stated Ya Boy.
Coming off the heels of the BWS mixtape as well as other projects such as Clinton Sparks and E-Rock's "Welcome to US of Bay" among other nationwide mixtapes, the buzz has been tremendous and it's only a matter of time before Ya Boy finds his home on a major as he explained: "I'm in talks with a few majors. They definitely eatin' Ya Boy up. I won't give names, but I guarantee you within the next 2 months you will hear who I am signed with. I feel that hip hop definitely needs Ya Boy and major is the only way to go."
With his cocky demeanor and confident way of carrying himself, some have criticized and questioned if he was a bit too arrogant or into himself. Ya Boy states that it's only an essential quality to feel that way in order to be a leader. "If I was to sit up here and say that other people are better than me and not tell you I'm this good, you would feel like you aint f-ckin with me. If I don't believe that I'm the best, nobody else will."
As someone who stays true to his roots and remembers his humble beginnings, Ya Boy made his start in the bay and still represents that in nearly every track he spits on. One of the prominent figures in the birth of his rap career was his big cousin, San Quinn, who still holds a good relationship with him. Since Ya Boy left Done Deal to further his career, rumors ran rampant and people questioned whether the cousins were still maintaining that close relationship. "Me and San Quinn are blood," Ya Boy emphasizes. "Alot of people love to stir that sh-t up and say we beefing. We will never beef. We might get mad at each other at times, that's a normal part of a family; but then we'll be cool that night. If anything went down he always had my back and I still got his."
From this point on the only way from here is to the top, and Ya Boy confidently states that he is ready to face the pressure, ready to lead the west coast as a young leader of the pack; ""Like my cousin Quinn said, pressure makes diamonds. It is alot of pressure to put on somebody, especially someone as young as me. I'm ready to help carry this coast man, I got a gift. I ain't got no choice but to use it. I'm gonna take this to the highest level and put on a show. I'm gonna put on a show for the world. You will see why I am the next coming."
Ya Boy is quoted as being "the show after The Game" and showtime is almost here, with Ya Boy's own DJ Skee presented mixtape around the corner, you won't want to miss a minute of this show. No commercial breaks here, the 'Prince of the Bay' is ready to hit you off with season after season. Check out the track we recently premiered from Ya Boy and The Game from "BWS Journal Volume 1" entitled; What's Beef. Eazy-E's Latino Protégés Release "The Takeover" - August 16, 2006 By : Rud

The late Eazy-E's only Latino protégés, The Brownside, have just released their sophomore album, "The Takeover." Their debut album, "Eastside Drama," issued in 1995 had been slated for release through Eazy's Ruthless Records label, until the Compton rapper’s tragic death ended a solid paper trail of release agreements that had been signed between himself and the intensely street oriented gangsta rappers. The long awaited return with "The Takeover," shows The Brownside's determination to become a factor in the game once again over a decade since they first emerged.
Wicked, Trouble and Toker are the trio that make up The Brownside, the latter of whom is currently serving time for a sentence in a federal prison; "I expect to be out of here by the end of next year," Toker explained.
Eazy's son, Lil E, still has memories of his father’s close friend Toker from when they escorted the then ten-year old mini E around Disneyland. Toker explained; "I can’t wait to see Lil E when I am out of here, I have a lot to tell him about his father." Eazy-E and Toker were such a fixture, that in Jerry Heller’s upcoming book, "Ruthless," slated for release in late August, he begins describing the end of Eric’s life by writing, "Only a handful of people were closest to Eric in the weeks leading up to his death. Toker, aka Little Beaver, his Latino street connection. The mixmaster Julio G." Heller also cites The Brownside in relation to Eric’s both visionary and deep desire to become involved in the Latin rap movement, a move that ceased with his sudden death. Eazy-E appeared on the group's debut album, which was recorded shortly before his death. Wicked explained; "Toker and Eazy were blood brothers. Eazy was so supportive of us, he kept trying to talk us into changing the name of the group to M.W.A., but we never did. He was relentless about it. He even wrote these little notes in the studio, trying to convince us. Eric was really looking forward to releasing our group on Ruthless, and we played some dates with Eazy and Bone Thugs-N-Harmony."
Wicked cites "La Despendida (Farewell)" as his favorite track on the group’s second album, which is released by P.R. Records. As fate would have it, Trouble and Toker originally met in prison. Toker has stated, "We’re not rappers trying to be gangstas, we’re gangstas trying to be rappers."
With songs on "The Takeover" inluding 'Life Of A G, 'Who We Are' and 'It Ain’t Easy' The Brownside stay true to their roots that made Eazy-E take notice. Trouble explained; "We are representing Southside L.A., also known as “The Skanless. But we know that a lot of other people are relating to the album, as well." While Wicked notes, "Toker brings the high life from the street, Trouble brings the drama from on street, and I bring my own experience from the street."
