Damion Young, pka モDamizzaヤ, Senior Director of Programming & Artist Relations, retires from KPWR FM – Power 106 – in Los Angeles after an illustrious 18-year career. Damion Young arrived at KPWR in 1995 as an entry level board-op, quickly rising to Music Director in 1997; becoming Assistant Programming Director by 1999. Under Damionメs innovative leadership, the stationメs format switched to hip-hop music, bringing it to the mainstream audience which launched the radio station to become #1 in Los Angeles for a record-breaking 10 straight Arbitron books, while always humbly giving credit to the formats artists. As an 18-year radio professional, heメs been wildly successful programming a variety of formats – from rock at Y97, oldies at KIST, to hip-hop at KPWR, concurrently doing production work on albums selling in excess of 25 million copies from artists Ja-Rule, Mariah Carey, Westside Connection, Nate Dogg, The Fast & Furious Soundtrack, Dark Angel Soundtrack, The Glitter Soundtrack, & True Crimes Streetメs of LA. During his career at Power 106 he is best known for developing the biggest and most memorable promotions in radio history, reuniting rap icons, Dr. Dre & Snoop Dogg in Hawaii which led to them recording the Chronic 2001 album; showcasing Eminem at his first radio performance, which launched this international phenomenonメs career; and the モPuffy in Paradiseヤ promotion which brought together lifestyle celebrities such as 112, Jadakiss, Lilメ Kim, Mase and Shaquille OメNeil. Young re-launched the Westside Connection project by producing the lead single モLights Outヤ featuring Knoc-TurnメAl, and helped in coordinating Dr. Dreメs モChronic 2001 Up In Smoke Tourヤ.
