I prefer The Chronic without a doubt

Illmatic is great lyrically, but the beats are kinda lacking IMO.....Ther overall sound of the album just isn't on the same level as The Chronic IMO

so most people say illmatic was a better album lyrically...are you guys taking account that Snoop had a large impact on the Chronic lyrically, or are you guys only judging the lyrics as Nas vs Dre, instead of Nas vs Dre & Snoop?

Chronic, hands muthafuckin down.  The chronic was the first album i ever listened to back when i was about 6 years old.  I remember my older brother playing the tape and i still remember those famous words "this is dedicated to my niggas that was down since day one...welcome to death row"  Lyrically it isn't the same as Illmatic but Snoop on the tracks with his dope lyrics and smooth flow on Dre's beats makes up for the lacking on good lyrical content on the Chronic
Oh I like this one... One dog goes one way, the other dog goes the other way, and this guy's sayin', "Whadda ya want from me?

Of course. Snoop came correct with his as did Kurupt, RBX, Daz and the Lady of Rage. You can't really put their lyrics on the same level as Illmatic. Illmatic was next level shit.

I'm one of the few that was never a big Illmatic fan. I respect it's importance in hip-hop and ain't disputing that, but its not a favorite of mine.

i dunno.. chronic has its weak point for me. dont get me wrong its still an amazing album.. but illmatic holds the #1 spot for me. i can listen to that shit on straight repeat for hella days.

Yep. The Chronic impacted my life and music tastes more, but over the long-term I feel Illmatic is simply a better, more rounded album. To be honest, when I listen to dre's album today, it sounds kind of old fashioned lol... Illmatic has that 'timeless' feel to it.

Both dope albums, but I rarely get the urge to bump Illmatic, even if it "critically acclaimed".

The Chronic on the other hand is constantly on rotation at home or on my Walkman, so for that reason I would go for Chronic.

The reason more people bump "The Chronic" is because it's basically a party album; you can turn off your brain and just have fun.  "Illmatic" is conscious and intelligent.  So the logical conclusion is that the people who prefer "Illmatic" are smarter than the people who prefer "The Chronic".
