West Coast Hip-Hop

Has y'all recognized the West's artists failiure to earn mainstream success?

Here's an evalution.

Dr. Dre is the biggest West Coast icon, the West wouldn't be shit without him, for sure.

Nate Dogg is blowing up big, he's with all these East and South artists like JD, Ludacris, Fabolous, Cadillac Tah.
Can't wait to see how his album sells.

Snoop Dogg, Kurupt, Xzibit & Ice Cube are the only other West Coast artists that called be called big in Hip-Hop.

Tha Eastsidaz & Warren G are holdin' it down, but they ain't pushin units.

Snoop Dogg's proteges, Bad Azz, Doggy's Angels, Butch Cassidy, Soopafly, KoKane and so on will never blow up on the national radar without assistance from other big MC's and can't stand on their own without Snoop Dogg.

DPG are heavily overrated. Their (two) albums this year didn't sell shit. I Know Dillinger & Young Gotti was independent, but 'Tha Dogg Pound 2002' is proof. Both Daz & Kurupt are weak lyrically, as seen on Kurupt's last album, and Daz is a wack producer (The above average beats on Dillinger & Young Gotti  can be counted on one hand)

Only big sellin' West artists are Dre, Snoop & Xzibit.

Other artists like
Daz
DeFari
DJ Quik
Jayo Felony
Lil' 1/2 Dead
King T
MC Ren
Ras Kass
RBX
Roscoe
Suga Free
Tha Liks
The Lady Of Rage

are underground MC's, realistically.

So, 6 big WC  names 4 really, Kurupt really ain't shit, dont sell shit, and Ice Cube is very similar to him, he can only be called a mainstream icon because of his acting.

The four major West Coast representatives in national Hip-Hop are: Dr. Dre, Snoop Dogg, Xzibit and Nate Dogg.

Holla back on what you think. Peace out. By the way, check out Bubba Sparxxx "Ugly". Shit is dope.

It really doesn't matter to me how much WC artists sell.  I'll buy their album regardless if their video it on MTV.

Of course. I could also care less if they sell/they video's on MTV or not.
I buy everything West Coast (except  Tha Row and underground shit)
This was just an evalution on how big they are on the national Hip-Hop radar.
By the way, non-mentioned West Coast MC's in my post are underground.

You don't listen to very much other Hip Hop than WC, do you?
Daz is a very wack producer. Listen to 'Dillinger & Young Gotti'.
Listen to the SUPERB :o beats on R.A.W. Listen to 'Dogg Food'
(alright some beats were good on that, but the rest were average and below average.) Then you'll notice that Daz is a wack producer.

There are many superb producers in the game like
Dr. Dre, Premier, Alchemist, but Daz is nothing in that company. By the way Timbaland is somewhat overrated.

There are many better lyricists in the game than Kurupt. He is OK.
Eminem (No.1), Tash, Xzibit, Proof impresses me these days. Peace

WELL....i agree kurupt ain no tight lyricist....he iz very limited lyricly imo....i like hiz vocalz....but he ain one of those mcz whoz vocalz iz so good you"ll pay less attention on tha lyricz...he jus" ain...(he might of been if he"d keep hiz old style....from tha early 90Z...but only if)
DAZ...iz a poor skilled rapper and lyricsist but as a producer i love hiz shit.....most of my love to dazes shit comes from what he did wit pacz classicz like "ambitionz as a rider", "skendalous" ,"amerikaz mos wanted"....you gotta love daz"s shit jus" fo these, man.

Don't forget about Cypress Hill. They from L.A. and they go platinum everytime they drop a record. Even their spanish album went gold.  ;D

DJ Quik goes at least gold everytime he drops something.

How can you say Daz is a wack producer and say Alchemist is superb. Both of them have hits and misses. Not all Alchemist tracks are fire. Some of them are really wack.

I think kurupt as a lyracist is underatted b/c he has shown in his younger days to come wit some real good shit,  but i'll agree that his later shit has sucked an he can do much better,  i personally feel daz is a good producers,  he never really comes wit anything groundbreakin but he never really drops anything wack,   he always comes correct.  I also heard 2002 went gold,   i dont know how true that is.  I think tha problem u have wit daz an kurupt is,  is that they can come much tighter,   cuz they have proved it b4,  this pisses me off too,  cuz they could be comin wit classic shit

id put eminem baout 99% west coast cuz he rollin with them usually and his fav rapper is 2pac not biggie. anyways i think kurupt and other west coast cats tryin to hard to get mainstream success they forgettin where there real fan base is and they tryin to have a poppy egde to the joints they doin at the moment..eg.kurupt-its over....nigga's are forgettin who there real fans are and are sellin out, they gotta realise that if they go back to what made them big in the first place and come up with some dope shit instead of tryin so hard to sound all poppy in ya songs, u gonna sell enough shit...cuz the ppl who bought the albums when they kept it gangsta and helped made them big aint gonna be nuying these west coast albums from the biggest stars when they tryin to be more poppy cuz its not what they lookin outta them

peace

i cant believe im hearin yall talkin bout kurupt iz weak lyrically?? wtf! daz...yah i can see dat. i neva really felt daz so much. but kurupt?? he one of tightest on tha mic in all of rap. i cant think of a westcoast rappa that can fuk wit kurupt on tha mic, n NO....not even snoop. but yah, there do seem tah be a lack of WC artist makin it BIG in rap lately. but yall know rap move in cycles. in tha early 90'z e'rybody in tha country wanted tah be a gangsta n drank on gin n juice. lol. i mean, only a few years ago...the eastcoast seem tah be dominatin....but theyve fell off now too sumwhat. cept for folkz like jay z n ja rule n shit like that. but thas cus theyve turned they music pop, n alotta westcoast artist dont. if u seen lately, tha songz that been makin it big....gotta have sum female vocalist singin tha hook or sumthin. One thang i heard befo in a magazine, was sayin how dre n snoop might have actually hurt otha westcoast rapperz wit Tha Chronic n Doggystyle. True, it put focus on tha west....but, that shit was SO big....n had SO much influence...that every westcoast rapper after that, had to live up tah tha standard they set....n snoop n dre themSELVES havent been able to live up to it yet...but, like i said....cyclez.....itll all come back around. no doubt...
