Suge Knight Shutting Down DEATH ROW for good
« on: March 09, 2007, 06:37:16 PM »
Suge is shutting it down :o

In a recent interview with the New York Post, Death Row Records honcho Suge Knight expressed his recent desire to shut down the infamous label once and for all...

According to Suge, he was inspired to bring The Row legacy to an end after recent conversations he had with preachers Noel Jones and T.D. Jakes, both of whom advised him to move on. In early 2005, Suge was ordered to pay Lydia Harris, the wife of incarcerated drug kingpin Michael ‘Harry-O’ Harris, $107 million in punitive and economic damages after Harris claimed that Knight shut her out of Death Row Records after she helped found the label. In April 2006 Knight filed for Chapter 11 bankruptcy protection citing over $137 million dollars in outstanding debt and just $4.4 million in assets. The bankruptcy court would like to see Death Row continue operating under reorganization, but Suge has now stated that he would prefer to liquidate his publishing rights and settle his debts. “I want to take care of the creditors. I’m saying I don’t want to keep living in the past, with the negativity,” he said. According to the Post, a judge has already walked away from the case, as well as one of Suge’s attorneys who received a threat against his life.

Damn.. even though i dont like Suge Knight, Death Row was still a huge part of West Coast History... IF Suge never got Dre to start this label there might not be Snoop Doggy Dogg, DPG, Eminem, 50 Cent, G Unit...

so if this happens, what exactly will happen to the music that DR put out? as in, who will own the rights to it? will anyone be able to buy rights to DR material and re-issue by themselves?

Wouldn't it be great if the masters get sold to the right people who know how to package this old classic DR material... unreleased Snoop, Dre, original Johnny J and Pac stuff, heck maybe even that N.I.N.A. album, Lord, please let the right people buy these masters

I bet suge has all the stuff locked in a closet in some penthouse overseas. Death threats on a judges life? please Suge always talks up shit for a public image.. its all bullshit, he's a crook and a evil mofo. The creditors will be left with dick except maybe the officially released masters and some publishing (remember "Suge knight publishing"?, yeah that's Suge not Death Row) and Suge will keep the rest.

full article 8)

March 9, 2007 -- THIS could be the death of Death Row Records, which launched the West Coast hip-hop sound of Tupac Shakur, Snoop Dogg and Dr. Dre.

In an exclusive interview, Marion "Suge" Knight, 42, told Page Six he's ready to pull the plug on the label he founded in 1991. His change of direction occurred after he made two visits to the City of Refuge Church, near his hometown of Compton, near L.A., where preachers Noel Jones and T.D. Jakes eerily gave him the same message.

"You've got to be able to let the past go, and move forward to the future," he quoted Jones as saying. Two weeks later, Knight heard Jakes, who was visiting from Texas, say, "You can't keep living in the past. God gives you a chance to move on."

Knight says, "They talked about the same thing, and it felt like they were talking straight to me. I don't want to be tied up with this for years. I want to move on with my life in a more positive direction."

Knight, a 6-foot-4 behemoth who played football for University of Nevada, Las Vegas, has been battling in bankruptcy court since Lydia Harris won a $106 million judgment against Death Row by claiming that her crack-dealing husband, Michael, now doing 28 years in prison, co-founded the label and was entitled to a 50 percent stake in it.

Knight - who did prison time himself, for attempted murder - gave Harris a check for $1 million several years ago, "but once the money ran out, she sued again," he said.

The bankruptcy court wants Knight to keep operating Death Row under Chapter 11 reorganization, but he now wants to liquidate his publishing rights, pay off the creditors, and end his Death Row misery.

One of his lawyers quit the case because threats had been made against his life. The judge recently quit as well.

"I want to take care of the creditors. I'm saying I don't want to keep living in the past, with the negativity," Knight said.

"My approach to music now is different. I'm not Delores Tucker, but you do have to be careful what you say," observed Knight, who no longer uses the N-word.

"We shouldn't be constantly feeding negative energy to these kids," he said. "You can get rich with the devil's money, but you can only be happy with God's money."

What does it matter?  Death Row has been dead for years anyways.

Ain't that a bitch. You really think he will let ANYONE get away with that shit?

He said the same thing back in '97 just before he got sent to jail. Keeping up appearances it is called...

This will never happen...

Conclusion: I'm not buying it cause with Suge you neeeever know, alotta things he says have to be taken with a grain of salt (for better or worse)...

It's kind of a shame.  But they haven't been releasing any new or even any previously unreleased music in some time, anyway.  I'll say this for Suge, it seems like during his las big push for Death Row, when he had signed Crooked I, Eastwood, Kurupt, and N.I.N.A., the police wouldn't leave him alone long enough for him to even focus on rebuilding his music label.  I guess in that respect he did get treated unfair, there towards the end.  Maybe just putting Death Row behind him and moving on to the next thing is the best answer. It doesn't seem that the powers that be were going to leave him alone to conduct business anyway.
