Exclusive Interview With Rome of B.Y.I. - January 22, 2008 By : Eddie

Dubcnn linked up with the man behind the B.Y.I. sound, Rome, for an exclusive interview. In this feature, you’ll get to hear all about how Rome started out as a producer, and how his skills have evolved to what they are today. We speak about the signature “Latin Soul” B.Y.I. Sound, and how that style was created.

We also discuss the Dout Gotcha! & Rome collaboration street album “Respect It Or Check It”, DJ Skee’s “American Godfather” project, and Rome’s outside production work with Cool & Dre protégé Joe Hound.

Rome tells us about his plans for the future, and, of course, we find out more about Omar Cruz’s full-length debut “Sign Of The Cruz.” Read on to learn about all of these topics and much more.

Excellent interview, Eddie. Rome is roamin' the country with his Spanish soul sound. You should have asked him what Spanish songs he uses in his samples. I'm gonna be very stoked if he even mentions those like Bukis, Yonics, Solitarios, Camilo Sesto, Jose Jose, Rocio Dulcar, Joan Sebastian, Yndio, Leo Dan, Juan Gabriel, etc. So many to name.

Recuerdos!

Thanks for this man, I was hoping to see a feature on Rome! Dudes sound is bananas. As long as the label delivers on its part, Omar & Rome are going places.

Good interview. Rome comes across as a very humble guy, who knows what he's talking about.
I'm really curious to hear the "Sign Of The Cruz"-sound, because like Rome said, his sound has indeed evolved from City of Gods to The Cruzifixion. So for him to say that he even took it a step further for Omar's album...that must be hot.

Thanks for the interview!
