Of the reworked version of The Police hit song that Snoop has remixed, set for release in November, the 72-year-old explained: ‘Me and Snoop made a recording of Message In A Bottle, which he’s called something else.’

‘I played the guitar and I sang on it, but Snoop also sings on this, which is quite a revelation to me,’ he added, as well as sharing his view that the US star was ‘a very nice man’.

See, this is why I don’t want Sting on the album.  Of course it’s just a remake instead of something innovative.   I’m not sure Dre really has a direction for this album but I hope I’m pleasantly surprised.

It clearly says that this is for a new Gin liquor....

really now? bad choice!
as with Marsha Ambrosius - Casablanco said Dr. Dre it's my best work, like now with the new Snoop album. And now when I read something like that, I hope Dr. Dre doesn't go the same route as with Casablanco, since we're honest, the whole album consists of remake beats, clearly orchestral back and forth and really dope production, but you know most of the melodies are originals etc. I actually expect something like that like Boss' Life (Feat. Nate Dogg) best sound for me, then feat by C.S. Armstrong, October London,  Butch Cassidy, Nate Dogg but please not Jelly Roll, the producer and singer likes Get 2 Know Ya (Feat. Jelly Roll) by the way that part was next level back then On The Boulevard (Dr. Dre & Snoop Dogg Feat. Mamie Gunn)

Snoop signing?
I'm getting worried that this album will be too experimental or wishy washy for my liking.
I'm not expecting Doggystyle, but I just want a straight hiip-hop album produced by Dre with a new modern twist, but im not confident at all.

I'd assume it was originally a sample and they just got Sting to re-sing the parts they wanted to change the lyrics, like they did with George Clinton back in the day.

But agreed, Snoop singing doesn't sound promising unless maybe he's singing backup vocals for the chorus.

Time will tell... or it won't, who knows

all that matters is the production

I have 2 questions for yall.

1. Noting that Snoop Dogg is the most famous entertainer alive, do you still expect him to go back and release the same content he did 31 years ago? He is almost in his mid 50's. Dr.Dre got away from the G-Funk sound since 96, why are we expecting them to drop something that haven't done in years and is not the reason of their current success.

2. Outside of this forum, do you guys listen to hip-hop? Or follow the evolution of it? There seems to be a huge disconnect where people are stuck in the 90s. People like Larry June or Tyler The Creator get ignored here, for example

I agree that people evolve artistically and i'm not expecting a 90's G-Funk sound, or even a 2024 G-funk sound, just a solid hip-hop album and not something that's trying to cater to too many different audiences.
That's been Snoop's problem with many of his albums - there's too many songs that try to target different markets and at the end ends up being an incohesive album.

Dr Dre stepped away form that classic G-Funk sound with 2001 with a new and experimental sound, but it was still a straight up hip-hop album with traditional drum beats that hip hop fans can nod their heads to. A lot of these modern beats are can be quite uncomfortable to the ear ie Dre's Compton album.

You forgot a few letters. It should be "De-evolution"

I think the reason that some people are expecting something along the lines of Doggystyle is the title of “Missionary”.

But my biggest concern is the production (Dre’s recent stuff is average) and tired remakes (Sting song for example). instead of something creative.

It’s not too much for us fans to expect some nostalgia-baiting tracks on this album while also getting something fresh (see LL’s recent album with Q-tip).

Time (release date?) will tell; what I AM confident is Snoop sounding better in the mic for an entire album than he has in a few decades.

What’s interesting is both Dre and Snoop say they aren’t worried about sales.  If that’s true, why are they reaching for hits with this “Message in the Bottle” remake?!
