At the end of the day it's just a matter of taste, but the Sing feat. is a real disappointment, not just the annoying drivel from Dr. Dre, for me also the Sting part. Did they also put autotune on it, whatever you want to call it? Outta Da Blue (Feat. Dr. Dre & Alus) could be a good track and the beat goes forward , but also a real disappointment. especially the hook, just sounds like Swizz Beats......The best track for me is definitely Gorgeous (Feat. Jhené Aiko), the hook isn't bad, but since a Butch Cassidy or Nate Dogg or Bo Roc, there are so many good West Coast hook singers, in this case why not LaToiya Williams , but the beat has an old school updated vibe

We would like an updated version of Doggystyle
Still Smokin , Intro Track from BODR / Prod. By Battlecat
Coming Back (Feat. Nefertitti Avani & October London) / Prod. By Battlecat
Outside The Box (Feat. Nate Dogg) / Prod. By Battlecat
Snoopy Don’t Go (Feat. October London) / Prod. By Battlecat

I'm just talking about d beats now, apart from that this is the Battlecat I want, everyone has that funky drive
I don't even want to know how many great beats and productions he hasn't released because he's just Dr. Dre, which we all would have celebrated badly

I think they still have it - Snoop sounds good and so far no 's-n-double-o-p, l-b-c-, 1-2-3' rhymes and his cadence and flow is dope, just not is classic smooth flow.
It's just not the sound that we are used to or hoping for, but personally I like the change in direction.

We just have to accept Dre won't go back to that classic sound from the 90's and 00's that we grew up with.

I think Dre actually sounds better on the mic than he has in years

and I wasn't expecting the beats to sound like they did on 2001, Relapse or even Compton which was 9 years ago now

whether its Dem Joints or Fred Wrecks fault I don't really know but these definitely aint it :-\

You will never get an updated version of Doggystyle because they were dumb and young when they made that album, it was innovative and the sound evolved since then, I wish they used the same formula in terms of body of work and cohesiveness though, or bring a follow up to the story since this is a sequel to Doggystyle.

Also the term hook singers doesn't exist, it's a term created by west coast dubcc fans. There is no such thing as a hook singer

Also, another point that people seems to ignore, Dr.Dre doesn't want to rap or perform anymore.

I was expecting this project to be the celebration of 2 successful careers regardless of the sound.  But this seems to be Outta Touch

It's 2024 my guy. This term is not used. It was Nate Dogg, Akon and maybe T-Pain to an extend.

facts…

if Led Zeppelin came out with a new album and it wasn’t true to their sound, but instead incorporated elements of hip-hop and EDM, what do you think would be the reception?

this isnt rocket science… if dre and snoop dropped an album every couple years and wanted to experiment after multiple classix together, fine.. but considering it’s their first full album together in 30+ years and a follow up to one of the greatest albums in rap history, having it be one big experiment is not the play.

only in hip-hop is venturing out to other genres seen as “growth” .. it’s borderline racist, and stems from the mindset of “hip-hop isn’t a real art form!!” ….. the people here hyping this up based on what we heard have low expectations, because u can’t say with a straight face that anything they dropped thus far has been classic.

Exactly. This is their first album in 30 years and Dre wants to get experimental. Why? They really only have The Chronic and Doggystyle so far together. There should be plenty of more hip hop they could make together.

If Dre is so keen on trying out other genres, good on him. But he shouldn't force other rappers to go along with him. He should go work with other types of musicians, you know, like he did with Marsha Ambrosious. But, oh wait, Marsha flopped because no one cares about Dre outside of fans of West Coast hip hop. So maybe he should stop running away from his roots and commit to making West Coast sounding hip-hop, you know, the genre he basically helped create.

Compare this to Xzibit's singles from Kingmaker. All three are lyrical hip hop, through and through. He knows what he's good at. He knows what his paying fans want. He knows what beats he sounds best on. Xzibit is staying true to himself.

Ty Dolla Sign was all over people's hook for a while. Did they ever call him a "hook master"?

i feel like Jimmy is a driving force behind the 'international' or 'pop' sounding nature of this project. the latest Dre/Snoop collabs like the GIN have been steered by Jimmy for better or worse.

“Is Nate Dogg on the hook?”
