I don’t mind the same beat because it is a dope beat. In this case the remix is the lyrics, sometimes the beat is the remix and only a chosen few can make the remix better than the original if it’s a hit record

A LOT more effort used to be put into remixes back in the day and I could point you to many examples (check Shut Em Down remix for example) where totally different producers were brought in .   The term “remix” became watered down over the years and came to just usually mean some different verses for the most part from some featured  mcs to create hype (ala Flava in Ya Ear Remix) while keeping the OG beat

But don’t forget all the incredible Pete Roxk remixes!  Or how about the Dre remixes of the Chronic tracks?   Or how about Biggie One More Chance which was TOTALLY reworked to be a completely new song and blew up?

My point is that back in the day remixes OfTEN(not always) had some real effort put into them- Let Me Ride remix is incredible to this day
