Thank you is horrible,  complete shit from the jump!.
Hard Knocks & Prssure sound more like an actual Snoop & Dre track.
Thank you should have been never made OR deleted after first listen in the studio.

Thank You's gospely hook suck's, but that beat is snappin.

Hard Knocks is dope and Pressure is a banger.

What ever Dre fully releases next, it will not sound like Compton or Missionary (or The Chronics  :( )

i think people initially thought thank you was dope because we heard that "thangs just ain't the same for gangstas" throwback on drink champs, blended in wit the classic dre guitars

but when it actually came out, it was a letdown

vocals was loud in the mix.. low end wasn't on that dre standard .. guitars were drowned out by the siblance instead of hugging the vocals .... very disappointing, as that was the song i was looking forward to when i heard the snippet

Unlike Compton, Missionary and Thank You sounds just fine to me on the speakers on a tech' point.

But if what you say is correct, how the hell is Dre the perfectionist, his assembled talent of technicians and engineers missing all this?
Making such schoolboy errors? This all started with 'Compton' right?

Are there mistakes like this on The Chronics, Doggystyle, Efil4zaggin etc...or are they perfect?

naah i thought the mix and master on compton was excellent

just a different style .. more focus on vocal prominence, but the music still sounded big .. it just differed from the darker sound of 2001

but the mixing and mastering on missionary was way below the dre standard .. and my theory is that the divorce leading up to the aneurism affected him in a big way

How do you think the other two recent Dre projects performed on a mix/master point, GTA The Contract and Casablanco?

GTA was weak too .. i remember people thought that it was mixed/mastered poorly on purpose because of the video game concept being that these were demos or some other stupid shit lol

casablanco seemed ok ... sounded good enough .. but nothing mind blowing like your typical dre level mix/master

Funny thing is focus who mixed compton with dre even said that he agrees with fans that mastering fucked it up and he even complain about it.

To me thank you is the only hit song of the album. Its the only dr.dre production which sounds like a dre production in last 15 years.

sounds to me like a typical insecure response

someone says your work isn't what they want to hear.. the person in question deflects blame.. "it wasn't us it was the mastering engineer! i even said so before we turned it in!!!"

but the same person who mastered compton also mastered 2001 and missionary (brian gardner)

and the mastering falls on the producers too.. because the producer guides the mastering engineer on how he wants the final master to sound...

compton was high on sibilance, no doubt  .. to me, it sounded like a conscious decision from dre to focus on vocal clarity ala stadium music .. that vocal prominence that doesn't blend in with the beat is very popular in music today

u hear it in missionary too... but in missionary, it's not just vocal prominence with high sibilance, because to make matters worse the music sounds small on top of that

the issues with missionary went beyond mastering .. it was the mix, first n foremost

as much as I don't enjoy Compton on the whole it's still better than Missionary.

haha yes i remember that!  When the songs came out and were mixed so poorly, people were saying "That's Dre's brilliance, the theme of the game is they were stolen demos, so he purposely left them poorly mastered and unfinished to fit the theme of the game, the man is a genius" And of course that wasn't the case at all.

If only Missionary's production was handled by Death Row rather than ICU, imagine if Dre was involved in IZ IT A CRIME or Sophisticated Crippin (which shits on 3/4 of Missionary)

Both albums have about 5-6 tracks I like and the rest is disappointing to me now.  I can’t really say I prefer one or the other.  I own both on vinyl and the one thing I will say is Missionary definitely sounds better on record than it does on DSP sonically.

I’m interested in what Dre does next.

Missionary is better imo - Im listening to it reguarly along with Is it a crime,
I liked Compton, but I have to be in a certain mood to listen to it.
The production is quite busy and brash at times with lots going on and choppy effects, so it's not an 'easy' listening experience.

Missionary has more traditional drum pattens and production that's that's more natural to the ear.
The raps on Missionary I find much much better. Like many, I don't like Dre's modern flow and cadence.
Snoop hasn't sounded this good in a good while and it carried through on 'Is it a crime' (which the first 5/6 songs were dope).
I think that the fact Missionary was a much shorter album really worked in it's favour.

I agree with the comments that the production on both albums are a bit bright/cold and lack warmth, bass and melodies.
