Rakim to sign with Dreamworks???
« on: September 04, 2003, 12:53:14 PM »
Now that he's wrapped up The Ownerz, DJ Premier has finally started working on his solo debut and word is he will collaborate with 50 Cent on a track for it.  Also, Primo is prepping a Poet (of Screwball) single for his Year Round imprint; the A-side is "Poet Is Coming" and the B-side is "Message from Poet" Lastly, word is Rakim will sign a new deal with Dreamworks and the key is that Premier and Large Professor will be handling the majority of the production---still no word on whether any of the Dr. Dreproduced material will be cleared for inclusion? (C'mon Dre!!)

why you laughing? i'd rather hear Premo production. I'm not surprised, he was going to sign to Dreamworks before he signed with Dre

Most hip-hop is now keyboard driven, because the majority of hip-hop workstations have loops and patches that enable somebody with marginal skills to put tracks together,...

Unfortunately, most hip-hop artists gravitated towards the path of least resistance by relying on these pre-set patches. As a result, electric guitar and real musicians became devalued, and a lot of hip-hop now sounds the same.

Yup Rakim over Premo and Extra P sounds very good to me indeed. No need to clear any of the Dre tracks.

Hmmm.. I can't help but be curious about how Ra would have sounded over Dre's beats. But you're right - if it was a choice of either/or, it'd be Primo and P for me.

This is so stupid.  There is no way Rakim has a complete album collecting dust over at Interscope and will never see the light of day.

i was laughing at the fact hiphopsite reported this (and i apologize for laughing if it offended you). Yes Rakim sounds good over Premo beats.  but i would like to hear what he sounds like over more Dre beats since we have only heard him over one beat, well two if you count the addictive remix.  i'm sure if the Aftermath version of the album is "leaked"  with all the tracks he did with Dre...that version will most definetly sound better.

Agree.

Hiphopsite and their "word is" seems less reliable by the minute.
Some of their "news" seems straight up made up, but at least they make up for it by correcting it the next week..

I didn't realise Rakim was that happy at Dreamworks before, but they've let him release the album he wants to before.

I think Primo's better than Dre when it comes to Rakim.
*bumps When I Be On The Mic*
His East Coast flavour  just fits better..

Hiphopsite.com also reported a release date for the album from a "very reliable source", so we know how reliable they are with this Rakim situation.

I would rather heard the Dr. Dre/Rakim album then what they are going to come up with with DJ Premier, Large Professor and others.
