Dubcnn and Crooked I have a long history, going back all the way to 2003 when I first interviewed Crooked, who was still on Death Row at the time. Throughout the years, a great friendship developed and dubcnn witnessed his trials and tribulations leading up to become a part of the Slaughterhouse supergroup and signing with Eminem's Shady Records.

We sat down with Crooked I just in time for the release of his new EP "In None We Trust - The Prelude" to speak about the project.

Crooked also goes in-depth on being signed to Shady Records and having Eminem as CEO and the chemistry between the Slaughterhouse members. We also find out more about the incredible BET Shady 2.0 Cypher that took place at this year's BET Awards.

Crooked explains what C.O.B. really is and how the movement has helped him throughout his career. We end off the interview with a few words about his single "Game Time", being released to digital retailers on January 17th as well as some closing words on Crooked's career so far.

news Funk Volume Cypher: Hopsin, SwizZz, Dizzy Wright - By : Nima - December 22, 2011

Funk Volume could become one of the most exciting labels coming up in 2012. Home to Hopsin, who has experienced incredible success in the past year with the release of his "Raw" album in late 2010 and was recently featured on Tech N9ne's "All 6's & 7's" album, Funk Volume seems to have a good ear for talent.

Other artists on the label include SwizZz, Dizzy Wright and DJ Hoppa. This morning I found in my inbox a new video titled "Funk Volume Cypher 2012", which showcases all of Funk Volume's artists.

news Brother J & X-Clan Drop "The Best Of X-Clan" Today - By : Chad - December 20, 2011

In the early 1990's hip-hop culture gave birth to the original messenger group -- X-Clan. The original 4 members were Professor X the Overseer, Brother J the Grand Verbalizer, The Architect Paradise and Sugar Shaft “The Rhythm Provider”. The group demonstrated a unique chemistry of hip-hop artistry, production and social movement development for youth and elders pressured by social injustice.

Influenced by icons like Bob Marley, Sun Ra and George Clinton, X-Clan chose the path of the messenger group. X-Clan introduced a signature sound and image reflecting the ancestors of indigenous cultures to the eldership of today. X-Clan was introduced to the music mainstream by 4th & Broadway/Island Records.

Their debut album “To the East Blackwards” became a hip-hop classic with classic cuts like "Heed The Word Of The Brother", and "Funkin' Lesson", while also opening the doors for national and worldwide music charts, video shows, magazine covers and awards in the grassroots community and the music industry. Regardless of the publicity and mainstream acceptance, X-Clan has always held true to their mission to channel intelligence and inspiration through hip-hop music.

After producing one more album with Island/Polydor, 1991's "Xodus", the group disbanded as a production team. In 1994, Brother J would plant the seeds of expansion with the Dark Sun Riders album “The Seeds of Evolution”. After the death of Sugar Shaft in 1994 and Professor X in 2006, Brother J revealed the fruits of the expansion, The X-Clan Millennium.

news OG Cuicide's "Never Give Up" Album Dropping Early '12 - By : Nima - December 19, 2011

Dubcnn regular OG Cuicide just sent the word that he will be releasing his official solo album "Never Give Up" in the 1st quarter of 2012. You've seen him on dubcnn this year with his two singles, "Never Give Up" and "Life Iz", which very well received by our visitors. Incase you missed them, catch up below:

OG Cuicide - Never Give Up (Video)
OG Cuicide - Life Iz (Video)

Incase you aren't familiar with OG Cuicide, he's what you would call a real Compton OG. Struggling to survive and overcome violence and poverty is a common image seen in movies and music about those who live in Compton. For West Coast rapper Cuicide, it’s all just a part of his life.

With no place to truly call home, he took to the streets and their offers of gang banging, robbing and hustling, but even that failed to calm him and eventually lead to an attempt at taking his own life at the young age of 22 years old.

He thankfully lived through that and woke up out of a coma with a renewed sense of determination to make it. Just two years after the life-changing brush with death that spawned his rap name, he signed his first record deal and recorded Shis debut album “Final Exit.” Since then he’s released a second album, toured across Japan, France, and Germany and taken up acting.

His new album “Never Give Up” will carry that theme and is sure to give his listeners a true glimpse at overcoming the odds. Expect more details on the album soon, including the collaboration with Lil Flip. Hit up Cuicide on Facebook and Twitter.

news Jon Black & Orkestra Ent. Prep "I Am Jon Black" Mixtape - By : Chad - December 7, 2011

Orkestra Ent. releases west coast artist Jon Black's new mixtape for the holidays. "I Am Jon Black" features songs over popular instrumentals, as well as top notch production from himself. Look out for the debut album set to be released 1st Quarter of 2012.

An MC with witty lyrics, a wide range of sonically astounding rhyme patterns and a passion for creating music that will be enjoyed by mainstream rap fans, and hip-hop purists alike. Jon Black became versed in music from listening to his mother’s oldies tapes, featuring artists like The Stylistics, The Delphonics and many more. As a child he transferred between Sacramento CA, and San Diego CA, which led to his exposure to many different styles of music. As he got older he began to delve into Rap and R&B. While an avid fan of many genres, Jon Black didn’t begin writing or producing any music until the age of 16.

At 16 he returned to San Diego, more specifically the gang-infested streets of “Southeast Daygo.” Growing up in “The Southeast” exposed him to a much grittier side of life than he had previously known and the lessons it has taught him can be heard throughout his music. It was during this time Jon Black began to get more deeply involved in MC’ing and production, and crafted his rhymes after what he considers some of the best names in Rap, artists such as DJ Quik, 2Pac, Dr, Dre and Mac Dre among others.

In addition to rap, Black, dabbled in Turntables, spoken word poetry, and instruments such as the guitar and the saxophone. Not allowing himself to be limited, Jon Black sought an understanding of music as a whole and longed to venture into an even more “eclectic” palate of sound. After locking himself in the lab with nothing but sticky green, vinyl records and Red Bull, Jon Black is more focused than ever and ready to take the industry by storm. He also performed at the 2011 SXSW in Austin, TX. On November 8th 2011, Jon Black signed with Orkestra Entertainment.

Stay tuned to Dubcnn for more on Jon Black and Orkestra Entertainment!

news Damizza Issues Statement To Outlets Regarding Book - By : Rud - December 1, 2011

Last week we announced to the world that Damizza would release his long awaited book "Guilty By Association" for free on December 14th through DamizzaBook.com.

Since that update - in which we quoted Damizza as saying "I want people to understand the truth of what they’re getting into when they’re seduced by the excess of this business" - Mizz has been conducting interviews with various outlets and today has asked us to release this statement for outlets to run rather than conducting interviews with them.

"So, I gotta get something off my chest & my back. The reason I was freaked about the Star Mag interview, is because I knew I had to lie. I want to say to Star [Magazine], TMZ [and whoever else] this statement instead of interviews.

I think Nick Cannon is a brilliant person that does not get enough credit. And this is old business. So, lil' homie step back, that's with my respect.

My name is DAMION YOUNG. I'm an alcoholic. And I have to stop lying.

Yes. Mariah & I dated. It was hell.

Everybody in this industry saw what I did for Mariah. And for what I did, or said, I have NO apologies. If you think for 1 second I'm afraid of Facebooks' lawyer, that Mariah is hiding behind, you are crazy.

Sweetheart, are you afraid I might say something that would end your career? Wielding a confidentiality clause that I had drafted for your protection from J.Lo, who was stealing your records thru SONY? OK, 'Let's be real.' I would have done that a long time ago. If this was personal. But, like Nick said 'Hey, this is entertainment.'

I'm sick of the lawyers. I'm sick of lying to make people happy and tell them what they want to hear. That's not what I'm about. I AM A REAL PERSON. And you, are hiding behind a lawyer because you feel to guilty to pick up the phone and say 'I'm sorry, I really did put you thru hell.'

The truth isn't always popular, but it is always the truth.

This book was never about money. It was never about exploiting and snitching on all the artists I put on or assisted in their time of need.

This book was the most sanitised version of my story I could give, without hurting any one's feelings. Mariah read the chapter. She offered 'Suggestions to make it better.' Being a nice guy and a loyal friend I obliged. And in return I got a new confidentiality agreement that not only was retroactive, but, she could name her price if she felt offended.

I'm offended.

Be a REAL PERSON. Come out of the glass box. If you have something to say or if anyone in this industry has something to say to say. I ain't never been too hard to find."

Outlets please run this quote as required and fans lookout for "Guilty By Association" dropping free on December 14th through DamizzaBook.com.
