news Dr. Dre - I Need A Doctor (Official Video) - By : Nima - February 24, 2011

The second official video off "Detox" was released moments ago. By now, you've all probably heard the song "I Need A Doctor", featuring Eminem and Skylar Grey and produced by Alex Da Kid. The song leaked a while back and they recently performed the song at the Grammy Awards.

Though the single was trashed hard by Dre's core fanbase it went straight to #1 on iTunes and I'm sure that every last one of you is still going to be curious to see the video.

MTV premiered it online and for now, the video is only available to watch for U.S. users (which is ridicolous and makes no sense, but whatever...).

Check out the "I Need A Doctor" video below:

It's Wednesday so that can mean only one thing, #WESTCOASTWEDNESDAYS on Dubcnn! As explained over the last two weeks it has been 5 years sine Paul Edwards contacted Dubcnn with the idea he had to write a book focusing on the Art & Science of the Hip-Hop MC and asking for help in speaking to artists themselves to get their input. Years later and with more interviews than countless journalists will ever manage to secure Paul finally released his epic read to critical acclaim and commercial success, it has been in Amazon's Top 10 Hip-Hop and Rap books since it came out and it's also being published in Japanese and Korean.

How To Rap: The Art & Science of the Hip-Hop MC is compiled from interviews with over 100 MCs, and featuring many West Coast artists.

Other West Coast artists and groups interviewed include Bishop Lamont, Cashis, Crooked I, Yukmouth, Glasses Malone, Guerilla Black, Omar Cruz, Spider Loc, The Federation, Tha Alkaholiks and more.

Now, thanks to the great relationship between Dubcnn and Paul Edwards, the writer has given Dubcnn EXCLUSIVE rights to release all the key WestCoast interviews that were compiled to create How To Rap: The Art & Science of the Hip-Hop MC. Each of these interviews give an insight into an artists thought process around creating a track and help you understand why being a Hip-Hop MC is truly an Art and Science!

For the first week of Westcoast Wednesdays: The "How To Rap" Interview Series we presented you with the exclusive and first seen full version of The Lady of Rage Interview that took place in March 2007 for the book. Vallejo, CA (February 22nd, 2011) With millions of records sold, nationwide sold out shows, loved by both the streets and respected amongst his peers, without question E-40 continues to reign supreme.

Empowering a familiar cliché that states, “If it’s not broke, don’t fix it” the Revenue Retrievin’ series continues and the most underrated rapper returns with two brand new albums entitled “Revenue Retrievin’ Graveyard Shift” and “Revenue Retrievin” Overtime Shift.”

March 29, 2011 will mark the release of the 15th and 16th albums from one of the biggest rap artist to come from the west coast. Artists T-Pain, Tech N9ne in addition to E-40’s bay area conglomerate Guce, Black C of RBL Posse, Laroo, Turf Talk, Cousin Fik, J. Stalin and The Click all grace the forth coming albums. E-40 and his son Droop-E who also raps and produces will once again share Executive Producer credits on both albums.

23 Years ago E-40 began to generate his fan base as a member of The Click initially introduced as M.V.P. releasing a EP titled “The Kings Men” in 1988. The domino-effect of that album inspired three more independent successful albums ultimately inspiring major record label Jive Records to sign E-40 where they soon introduced his critically acclaimed “In A Major Way.” During the course of the multi-album deal, he produced three gold albums and one platinum album while on Jive Records.

Then In 2005, the music macgyver partnered with the everlasting King of Crunk aka Lil Jon and signed with Warner Brothers/BME . In 2006 not only did E-40 reposition himself, but the Northern California music scene struck gold with the release of E-40’s “My Ghetto Report Card” which is also certified Gold via the RIAA. A swift two years later, he released his last album on Warner Brothers entitled the “Ball Street Journal.” With proven successes while absorbing a wealth of knowledge over the years, E-40 simultaneously motivated his immediate offspring.

In 2010 he surpassed a new benchmark when he signed to Heavy On The Grind owned by his first son also Artist/Producer Droop-E. Together they released E-40’s 13th and 14th albums entitled “Revenue Retrievin’ Day Shift” and “Revenue Retrievin’ Night Shift.” That very effort spun the Bay Area’s famed Ambassador as one of the hottest commodities in Hip-Hop with the smash hit record “Bitch” featuring Too Short and 50 Cent. Today, both fans and street soldiers around the globe can rest assured “Revenue Retreivin’ Overtime Shift” and “Revenue Retrievin’ Graveyard Shift” will be another flawless classic from the most underrated rapper of all time, E-40.

Dubcnn dropped the first single off the album(s), "She Smashed The Homie", featuring Ray J & Snoop Dogg a few weeks back, check it out below incase you missed it:

news New L.A. Talent Alphabit Has Big Plans For 2011 - By : Rud - February 22, 2011

The typical influences of L.A life have not prevented this up and coming MC from getting ready to make big strides in 2011.

Alphabit is a dedicated and driven individual who, at the age of 22, has been utilising his Los Angeles roots to equip his lyrical arsenal with the right mixture of intelligence, life experience and street knowledge.

His authentic and polished style make him easily accessible yet instantly relatable to countless potential listeners and ultimately fans. Alphabit promises to bring a different dynamic eminating from the West this year.

"Not having any original beats or music to rap over challenged me to grow within this craft, I had to learn to create music," explains the MC. "It was already in me, but I had to bring my thoughts and feelings to life" - a fact that led him to produce his own material.

Quickly realising that making music was not simply a hobby for him but more a passion and a purpose, he took steps to make music his goal in life, "My main goal in music is to open people eyes to something different. Something that hasn't been in the game for a long time. I want to let people know who I am as a rapper, producer and a artist as a whole," he told Dubcnn.

From the material we have heard he mixes up mainstream worthy material with lyrical content that challenges the listener - whole remaining humble and best of all hungry. We are all pretty excited to hear a full project from Alphabit this year but in the meantime we have got three great tracks - plus a video - for you to check out so you can see for yourself.

news Introducing San Diego's The Dudez, "Recess" EP Download - By : Nima - February 21, 2011

A couple of weeks back, up and coming producer Isiah Salazar reached out to me via e-mail telling me about this group called The Dudez coming out of San Diego that him and his partner Hazebanga produced an EP for.

Dubcnn gets music sent to them from new artists on a daily basis and let's be honest - a lot is garbage. But after checking out the "Recess" EP, I concur with the way Isiah described it: "It is called 'Recess' because the concept behind this project was to create something refreshing... Take a break from the ordinary."

That is exactly how I would put it and that's why I'm releasing the project on dubcnn today for free download, with two exclusive bonus tracks added to the EP.

To get an idea of what The Dudez' music sounds like, we have the track "Elevator" available for you to check out. Reminds me loosely of what a mutation of Kendrick Lamar and Wiz Khalifa would sound like.

The Dudez - Elevator (ft. Poodeezy) (Prod. by Isiah Salazar)

There will also be an official video dropping to the song on Friday, look for that on dubcnn as well.

On to the full download of "The Recess" EP:

We hope you enjoy the project. Dubcnn will keep on introducing you to up and coming talents.

news XL Middleton, Harold Blue & Reality Jones "Refill" - By : Rud - February 17, 2011

Xl Middleton had a busy 2010 on dubcnn showing he is one of the most consistent artists around and always dropping new music for his fans. Last year XL Middleton & Black&Mild released The Yardnic Mixtape, then he linked up with Clinton Wayne to turn Wiz Khalifa's "Black And Yellow" into a Los Angeles anthem entitled "Gold And Purple" in both Audio and Video formats.

Then in December last year XL Middleton was back with news of a forthcoming mixtape "Mixed Drinks Volume 2" with DJ Age and the first track from it that saw him team up with the soulful vocals of Reality Jones to pay homage to America's favorite banned malt liquor energy drink Four Loko. Set the tune of the immaculately-replayed "For The Love Of You" by the Isley Brothers again we dropped the Audio and the Video.

XL Middleton just dropped off another banger for us today entitled "Refill" that is produced by xXx Productions a track with the classic, funky uptempo feel of 90's West Coast hip hop, only with a fresh twist of what's going on musically in 2011.

It's the first official single from the new Crown City Entertainment roster - XL Middleton, Harold Blue and Reality Jones and will appear on the aforementioned "Mixed Drinks Volume 2" mixtape, coming April 2010.

news Guests, Producers Unveiled: Snoop's "Doggumentary" - By : Conan - February 8, 2011

March 29th is rapidly approaching, and the devoted fans of Bigg Snoop Dogg are well aware of the significance of that date. On that particular Tuesday, the Boss Dogg will release his eleventh solo album, the much-discussed Doggumentary.

There's been a fair amount of hearsay in regards to who will appear on Snoop's impending, self-proclaimed "masterpiece." Now some new album artwork released at SnoopDogg.com has afforded eager listeners some concrete details.

Production on the album is scheduled to come from a diverse range of names. Some, such as the revered Fredwreck and Battlecat, are veteran contributors to Snoop's prolific catalogue. Others, including Kanye West and Virginian sensation Lex Luger, will be making their first additions to a Snoop Dogg solo album. Interestingly, Scott Storch is also listed in the artworks line-up. Avid visitors of our forum may remember encountering a recent video featuring Scott. This clip suggested the troubled producer would be helming Snoop's next single. Storch went on to suggest that the track would feature pitched crooner T-Pain. ('Pain is also confirmed as a guest appearance.)

Aside from T-Pain, the guests we can expect to hear from include Snoop's fresh-faced homie Wiz Khalifa, Young Jeezy, and the more familiar supporting vocals of E-40 and R. Kelly. The most surprising feature is arguably alternative champions Gorillaz, who will grace Doggumentary after Snoop memorably entered their Plastic Beach.

We will be bringing you much more information on Tha Bigg Boss Dogg in the run-up to Doggumentary's release. For now, be sure to log on to the Dubcnn forums and let us know how you think the album will sound!

news Compton’s OG Cuicide Readies “Never Give Up” Album - By : Chad - February 7, 2011

Though struggling to survive and overcoming violence and poverty is a common image depicted of those who live in Compton, CA, for West Coast rapper OG Cuicide it’s all just a part of his life. From having been abandoned by his parents at only eighteen months old, to having to make it through foster homes and more upheavals, Cuicide has dealt with hardships from the moment he was born.

With no place to truly call home, he took to the streets and their offerings of gang activity and hustling, but even that failed to calm him and eventually lead to an attempt at taking his own life at the young age of 22 years old.

Having survived his brush with death, Cuicide awoke from the trauma-induced coma with a renewed sense of determination for his life. Just two years after the life-changing experience that inevitably spawned his rap alias, he signed his first record deal and recorded his debut album aptly titled “Final Exit.”

The album reflected his life during the hard times he endured before the suicidal attempt , including his constant living on the edge, and that opened the door for his future in music. Since then he’s released a second album, toured across Japan, France, and Germany and taken up acting.

The struggles haven’t stopped, as he’s been shot twice in the last four years, including in the stomach by an AK-47, but through it all he’s developed a desire to never quit. His new C&G Records album, “Never Give Up”, will carry that theme and is sure to give his listeners a true glimpse at overcoming the odds.

“Looking back on my life from the past until now I never gave up and know for sure there is a God and I'm here for a reason,” Cuicide reflects. “So to the world I say no matter what you’ve been or are going through you can make it. Always remember OG Cuicide told you never give up.”

Stay tuned to Dubcnn for more on OG Cuicide, Never Give Up and C&G Records!

While a part of the original Death Row Records brand, the LBC Crew had a hit-single with the song "Beware Of My Crew", from the "A Thin Line Between Love and Hate" soundtrack, as well as being highlighted on 2Pac’s "Gridlock’d" soundtrack with the song "Out the Moon /Boom, Boom, Boom", which also featured the late Death Row rapper. They were also showcased heavily on Snoop Doggy Dogg's multi-platinum selling second solo album “Tha Doggfather”.

Since departing Death Row, The LBC Crew have remained visible figures in west coast hip-hop. Big C-Style dropped "C-Style Presents: 19th Street LBC Compilation," Bad Azz has released 4 solo albums, Techniec has made appearances on various projects and Lil C-Style remained part of the unorganized Death Row camp for a while, before being most-recently signed to Game's Black Wall Street Records.

"Haven’t You Heard" is now days from release and, as we announced, features long anticpated full quality versions of tracks such as "Dippin’ In My Low Low," "Gangsta" as well as "Feels Good To Be DPG" - the single from the release that features Snoop Dogg and Nate Dogg which we have for you in full now!

LBC Crew - Feels Good To Be DPG (Feat. Snoop Dogg & Nate Dogg)

Once again the long-awaited LBC Crew Haven’t You Heard drops February 8th 2011 on WIDEawake/Death Row with production from Soopafly, LT Hutton, Daz, Sam Sneed, and DJ Pooh, so ensure you order yours today.

news "Arms & Hammers" Almost Here, More Music From SAS! - By : Rud - February 2, 2011

Strong Arm Steady were originally an octet of West Coast staples, comprised of cipher-honed MCs, producers, and DJs who rose to counterbalance the heavy gang influence of L.A. rap in the 1990s.

Past members/current affiliates include MCs Xzibit and Planet Asia, as well as beatmaker extraordinaire DJ Khalil, who produced four tracks on Strong Arm Steady’s forthcoming and long awaited new album, "Arms & Hammers," dropping February 22nd on Talib Kweli’s Blacksmith Records.

The current incarnation of SAS is the well-known trio of Los Angelenos Krondon and Phil Da Agony, and Mitchy Slick from San Diego. As a collective, SAS have flooded the block with more than a dozen mixtapes since 2003. Their full-length debut album, "Deep Hearted," appeared in 2007, and 2009 saw the release of an innovative project called the "Stoney Jackson LP," produced entirely by Madlib. "Arms & Hammers," marks the group’s full-fledged arrival, a project we have kept you fully updated on since 2009!

In an early update we brought you the Game featured Trunk Music, produced by Lamar of 1500 or Nuthin - as well as the Original Version which featured Phil The Agony and not Game.

Less than six months ago we followed up with the video for Make Me Feel featuring Jelly Roll before dropping the Too Short featured video for On Point.

We've just been sent the full CDQ audio of that Terrace Martin produced single and can present it for you below.

Strong Arm Steady - On Point (Feat. Too Short) (Audio)

Yesterday we brought you another new track from the album produced by DJ Khalil called Klack or Get Klacked.

Other tracks on "Arms & Hammers" include "Gangsta’s" where "Kron, Mitch, and I depict the cities we grew up in. We pay homage; it’s a record for everyone, not just gangstas. If you handle your business, you gangsta about things in your own way, like a Russell Simmons," explains Phil of the DJ Khalil produced track.

Another Khalil record on the album is the concrete-hardened collabo "When Darkness Falls" with Marsha Ambrosius of Floetry of which Krondon says; "We go outside of ourselves and speak on dark situations and bring light to them. We are just being brutally honest."

Speaking of brutal, heads will appreciate the microphone savagery of Kurupt on Terrace Martin’s "Blow My Horn," and that of KRS-One, Talib Kweli, Chace Infinite and Planet Asia on "All My Brothers," produced by Nottz.

Elsewhere, note the stylings of West Coast crooner Jellyroll and the cuts and interludes of the legendard DJ Crazy Toones who oversaw the construction of "Arms & Hammers." When asked about the length of time SAS have taken to release the LP Krondon explains ; "To put out a record of this magnitude, we felt like we had to be standing next to some of the pillars that hold up where we come from and where the music comes from, but yet show it in a light that’s relevant now. That’s not an easy thing to do. That’s why we didn’t mind taking our time with it, because it’s a responsibility and an honor to paint an accurate picture."

Kron also said that Strong Arm Steady are readying a short film to delve into the meaning of "Arms & Hammers," "Those who know the street will have their own interpretations of what Arms & Hammers means, but truly, if you think about building any foundation—occupational, physical, spiritual—it requires some sort of tool. There’s an arm and a tool used to create that structure. That embodies your work ethic, your strength, your consistency. People who go off and fight for their country, even their neighborhood, are following that same motto. The film focuses on the similarities between people despite different backgrounds or different approaches to survival. Those words signify the resources and tools you use in your everyday existence."

So just what is Arms & Hammers? Depends on whom you ask!

Phil Da Agony: "It’s a great body of work, a moment in time that’ll be forever respected and cherished. It’s everybody coming together and putting their best foot forward."

Mitchy Slick: "The best of what the West Coast has to offer all in one serving— from the block to the smoke shop all wrapped up in one."

Krondon: "It’s students of the game getting a chance to present all that we’ve learned. It’s a complete embodiment of life and all the emotions that men go through. For the listener, the music is so triumphant that it calls for a picture to be painted with several different colors."

Strong Arm Steady. Many things to many people. On February 22, 2011, with "Arms & Hammers," one truth will radiate brilliantly. The West Coast has once again found its voice. Pre-order it here.

Make sure you check out recent audio drops from SAS including unreleased tracks from the last few years - many of which have gone on to be used on Platinum albums - including; Talking To Myself featuring Kobe, Do Ya Thang Girl with Casey Veggies & Picaso over a Statik Selektah production and Makings Of You produced by Pete Rock.
