 Candyman 187 Interview, Snoop Single + Win $3000 - By : Rud - August 31, 2011
 Candyman 187 is a name that for many will ring true but you might not be able to place where from instantly. Born in the 80s, Candyman was raised in L.A. and led a hot-tempered youth before reevaluating his life and refocusing his energy into becoming a revolutionary musician whose goal was to make an impact on anyone who would listen.
In his early years, Candyman 187 was mentored by the legendary Tupac Shakur and Yaki Kadafi of the Outlawz. A strong bond developed amongst the trio, who then went on to form the group The Havenotz.
Today Candyman 187 has seen and done it all and over recent years, with that team of artists, musicians and producers behind him The Havenotz he has set about making his mark taking L.A by storm with a 13 piece live band making and winning Album of the Year and Artist of the Year at the Los Angeles Music Awards.
Now Candyman 187 is tackling the industry on his own and has recently released a single and video for a record featuring Snoop Dogg and Ariano called "High Off The Fame." This radio friendly record and accompanying video is from his upcoming album "If Tomorrow Never Comes."

 Last week Meko McAfee, who first appeared on Dubcnn back in 2007 with the release of his Fresh Ta Death mixtape, announced his latest project, a 7 song EP titled "With Sincerity."
Having dropped his highly anticipated album The Anti-Virus for free download earlier this year that spawned the videos No One, Loving You & Hood Politics he dropped off the first single from the upcoming EP How I'm Livin' featuring El Prez over production from Philthy for Keepitphilthy Productions.
Today we are back as Meko has just dropped off the second single, this time a smooth record titled "Gem Dropper" which features fellow Bay Area emcee's Davinci and C.B. News over production from Jimmy Dukes.

 Just last week Game released his highly anticipated new LP "The R.E.D. Album" having spent the weeks and months leading up to it promoting with new media including his recent 21 minute Daytona 500 (500 Bars) track.
Last week we also caught up with Game in-person for an Exclusive Video Interview in which he discusses his reunion with mentor Dr. Dre, working closely with Lil Wayne and the possiblity of joining Cash Money Records. He touches on Interscope's stance on the "R.E.D. Album" after the numerous pushbacks and the role Pharrell played as the executive producer.
In that last update we also brought you samples from the album including Martians Vs. Goblins with VMA Newcomer Winner Tyler The Creator and Lil Wayne, Good Girls Go Bad featuring Drake and the monster cut The City alongside Kendrick Lamar. Once you've check it, if you haven't already, go cop it now.
For those that did then you were were amongst 97,528 unit sales in the first week which saw "The R.E.D. Album" dethrone Jay-Z and Kanye West's "Watch the Throne" as the #1 album on the Billboard 200 chart. The R.E.D. Album (short for REDedication) is Game's third chart topping debut following 2005's The Documentary and 2007's Doctor's Advocate which both went on to sell millions of copies worldwide. Game’s last album, LAX, started at #2 in 2008 and went on to gold certification.
When asked about the #1 spot Game had this to say of his supporters; "It feels amazing to be back on top. My fans are incredibly loyal. I was able to step away from music for some much needed personal time with my family. And now that I've returned with a new album, they've come out strong to support me. I wouldn't be where I am today without my fans. Period."
To celebrate this success Game, alongside the Taydoe TV have released this amazing in-studio footage of Game working on "The R.E.D. Album" with most of the album's featured artists. Witness Dre, Drake, Wayne and many more at work and giving their thoughts on the LP.

 Since arriving on the scene as an integral writer and creative force behind pioneering west coast rap group N.W.A., the D.O.C. has been penning all-time classic hits since 1987. Whether it be for Dr. Dre (The Chronic, 2001), Snoop Dogg (Doggystyle, The Blue Carpet Treatment), M.C. Breed (Big Baller, Flatline) and others, the D.O.C. continues to lend his writing prowess to some of the hottest records to date.
We are all to familiar with the story on the D.O.C., of how he wrote for Eazy-E and N.W.A. during the Ruthless Records glory days, and would later break on the scene with a Dr. Dre-produced debut album No One Can Do It Better, which is considered an all-time classic hip-hop album. But then tragedy struck shortly after the release of that album, where the D.O.C. was involved in a car accident that stripped him of his golden voice. The D.O.C. would eventually manage to release two albums of his own, 1996's Helter Skelter, and 2003's Deuce, where D.O.C. wrote the raps while others vocally delivered the lines, D.O.C.’s.
In 2009, it was first reported that he was seeking a voice therapist, where it was found that The D.O.C.'s vocal cords were not irreparably severed or crushed, and that his voice could still be surgically restored by up to 70% or more. The D.O.C. is currently undergoing final tests before the controversial stem-cell surgery takes place with Dr. Paolo Macchiarini at his world-renowned clinic in Florence, Italy. There have been recent headlines made about the D.O.C.'s documentary film he plans to make about the early days of the D.O.C. and presumably his accident, drug addiction and road to recovery. D.O.C. is also writing a book about his experiences on Ruthless Records and Death Row Records, his vocal surgery, and subsequent recovery.
In this Dubcnn exclusive, the D.O.C. shares his thoughts on preparing for the upcoming procedure, working on a project that includes DJ Quik, Ice Cube, Andre 3000 and others, his relationship with Erykah Badu, why he hadn’t done this surgery earlier in his career, and much more!

In addition to her show-stopping features with Death Row, her early work included appearances with N.W.A., D.O.C., and Bone Thugs-N-Harmony on Ruthless Records, while her most recent post-Death Row collaborations have been with K-Ci & JoJo, Redman and others.
On October 25, 2011, Best Hand Entertainment & D Sound Syndicate (a division of WIDEawake Entertainment Group) will release Jewell's "My Blood, My Sweat, and My Tears”. Shortly after, on November 22, 2011, WIDEawake/Death Row Records will release the album "Jewell". The never-before-released tracks from the Death Row vault showcase the artist’s undeniable talent and edge while digging into her Gospel roots.  No One (Dae One & Noni Spitz have been ever-present on Dubcnn this year with the build up to the long awaited album "The Substance" which is now available for download.

 L.A. rap prodigy Blu has been appearing sporadically on Dubcnn this year, in April he appeared at Paid Dues alongside Exile to premiere a Fashawn featured record [Blu Performs New Song w/ Fashawn & Exile @ Paid Dues 2011 Video] that was said to be from his long awaited new album "NoYork!" which he discussed with us in this exclusive Interview.
Since then news and media on the Warner Music major label debut has been scarce but in May we brought you Doin' Something, a posse cut which saw Blu, Pac Div, U-N-I, J*DaVeY, TiRon and Aymomari all on one song.
Today we are back as Blu has adopted an alter-ego B for his latest interim project "Jesus." Although under a pseudonym you can still expect the same intricate rhymes and hazy soundscapes he's become famous for.  Bay Area spitters Trey C and Playa Rae are prepping a new EP entitled "I.L.A.M. (Independent Like A M#Fuka)" for September 6th, a celebration of being indepenent in the music industry.
Playa Rae has been active in the South Bay scene for over a decade, making his mark on the underground, while Trey C has been grinding his way up in the past few years, you probably remember his radio smash "Showboatin' (ft. G. Malone, Ya Boy & Matt Blaque)" from 2008.
The new EP is a testimony to the two artists' relentless grind and they just dropped an impressive video to their single "Numbers", I urge all of you to give it a listen:

 Last year it was all about "Chain of Command" for Planet Asia and the Gold Chain Military. The bi-coastal Hip-Hop collective consisting of Planet Asia, Killa Kali, and Turbin (All hailing from Fresno, CA), Killer Ben and Sav Killz (Repping Brooklyn, NY), Tristate and Montage One (From Los Angeles, CA), dropped the acclaimed release last year and we premiered videos including the Jason Steck directed Gold Chain War and Pleasure & Pain as well as the audio for the Pleasure & Pain single and the GCM Meets ALC produced by Alchemist. We also took some time to catch up with them for an exclusive Dubcnn video interview in April 2010.

 The good folks at JDW Management and California promotional company Gorillaz N Saspenderz - the same folks who've been behind recent projects from Prophet, Jessi Malay and 7Lions are behind another new project that releases today from up and coming Black and Italian Brookyln recording artist, producer and songwriter Blais.
Blais (pronounced "Blaze") has been steadily building his buzz over the past year as he's honed his abilities to create his debut release "Imagination With No TimeLine."
The lead up to his debut LP has seen him share the stage with some of the biggest names in the industry including Pitbull, Paul Wall, Krazie Bone, Slim (112), Lil Flip, Mannie Fresh and Baby Bash.
"Imagination With No TimeLine" showcases his production skills as well as his lyrical capabilities and when asked about why he took to music he said; "I always knew that music was something that I really wanted to do. I had a lot to say I just needed 'sound'. An artist has his brush, his canvas, and his paint: I'm armed with my paper, my pen, and my message."
 Blais is currently enjoying success with the single from "Imagination With No TimeLine" the Steve Soulja featured "Make My Heart Go Boom." When asked about the LP he told us; "I think it brings a bit of every style of music and creates a different element to hip hop. I want to bring change and break the mold that everybody is used to."  We've been keeping you updated on the new EP release from Los Rakas, the Panamian Bay Area transplants who have been taking over the Latin music world by storm.
Two cousins who grew up in Panama before spending their teens in Oakland, California, Raka Dun and Raka Rich put a distinctive "Panabay" twist on hip-hop and reggae, bridging the streetwise sounds of the places they've called home.
Drawing on Panamanian plena's faithful approach to reggae classics and the Bay Area's independent and idiosyncratic hip-hop scene, Los Rakas merge familiar dancehall melodies with a lyricism all their own.
Today, Los Rakas released an 8-song EP called "Chancletas Y Camisetas Bordada EP", including production from international tropical bass producer Chief Boima, the Bay- Area's Hawk Beatz, :::i.ameni:::The Beat Man and Los Angeles' Party Animals.
"The EP is named first, for the ubiquitous flip flops which everybody wears in Panama. ‘Without them, your feet will be all tore up’, says Raka Rich. Secondly, is the camiseta bordada – a white undershirt with the sleeve holes and neck hole embroidered with brightly colored yarn.”
Last year was a flagship year for Los Rakas, winning the 2010 Latin Alternative Music Conference’s (LAMC) Jack Daniel’s ‘Discovery Artist’ prize in New York City (an award that goes to the most promising group at the conference and the first time awarded to an urban group), with endorsements from Gibson Guitar and SHURE; culminating with their breakout performance at The Bowery Ballroom with a 6 piece band.
They have also rocked alongside artists like Nas & Damien Marley, Lupe Fiasco, The Roots, Ghostface Killah, Outkast, Ice Cube, Mos Def, Talib Kweli, E40, and others. Los Rakas just stepped off the ‘Playback Tour’ in the Spring with reggae star, Collie Buddz, bringing their dynamic show and WOW-ing audiences across the entire country.

Dropping on August 23rd 2011, R.E.D. marks Game's reunion with mentor Dr. Dre, who narrates the album, and Game explains his role to us.
He also speaks on working closely with Lil Wayne and the possiblity of joining Cash Money Records. He touches on Interscope's stance on the "R.E.D. Album" after the numerous pushbacks and the role Pharrell played as the executive producer.

Mistah Fab spearheaded an event over the weekend with the goal of giving back to the inner city youth. Microphone Masters gives kudos to his efforts. This raises the question: could this be executed on a bigger scale in Hip Hop with the same success as other endeavors like Live Aid? The Panel shares their thoughts. After a bit of word association (what comes to mind when you hear 'lyricism' and 'Raekwon') the panel goes IN on the use of the N word amongst non African Americans. Some interesting thoughts for sure.

 Dubcnn spoke with Detroit born and Houston based emcee B. James, best known as a Scarface protégé for his work on Face’s last retail release, “Dopeman Music” where he appeared on two handfuls of songs.
We contacted B. James earlier this morning when rumors of Scarface’s release from prison rumor began circulating. We’re happy to announce that B. James has CONFIRMED Scarface’s release! Scarface spent nearly a year in prison for unpaid child support charges.

 Although I expect most of the dubcnn visitors to be well-informed, I suspect that a lot of you are not aware that the man behind one of the West Coast's break-out groups of the past year, Cali Swag District, is none other than Inglewood OG Big Wy (of The Relativez).
How did a West Coast Gangsta Rap veteran end up pushing out a group that released one of the most commercially successful rap songs of the last years, that had everybody from Obama to Justin Bieber dancing to it?
The story behind the Cali Swag District, who recently lost one of their members, M-Bone, in a fatal shooting, will be told throughout a new web-series called "Who Is 319", which is narrated by Big Wy himself.

 Oh it's really on now! Last week, we first informed you on the on-going feud between Messy Marv aka The Boy Boy Young Mess and Too Short.
To give you a quick recap.... Mess sent shots to Short via Twitter, who responded to Mess in an extensive and in-depth interview with Julia Bevery from Ozone Magazine. Mess then dropped a song called "Class Of '84 (Fuck Too Short)", officially putting his beef on record and even announcing another diss track, "The Bay's Biggest Hypocrite".
While Short had originally stated that he would not further get involved in the situation and that he would not indulge in "twitter-beef" or doing diss songs, fellow Fillmoe legend JT The Bigga Figga took it to the studio and dropped a song getting at Mess called "Take 1 (Messy Marv Diss)".
 Up until this point, Messy Marv was yet to explain what exactly his problem with Uncle Short Dogg was, so he reached out to the himie Tim "Styles" Sanchez over at AllHipHop.com for an in-depth interview, where he further went in on Short and also denied having heard of a rapper called JT The Bigga Figga (right...).
JT The Bigga Figga didn't wait long, roughly 24 hours after Messy Marv's AllHipHop piece, they released an interview with JT responding to Mess and speaking on the situation.
Now that you're up to date on everything that happened, here's the latest: Even though he had previously talked down on beefing over Twitter, Too Short went on a rampage last night, sending out over 30 tweets dissing Marv. He also unleashed his official musical response, "Where You At":

So far you've had teaser records like the Hardcore (Remix) with Jayo Felony as well as music from the actual double EP including In The Zone featuring Kobe produced by Komplex, from the "Destiny" disc and another Komplex production Half Man with Crooked I from the History Disc.

 In late 2010 we dropped an update on San Fernando Valley native Hectic announcing his upcoming new LP "One Bad Mexican." [see; Hectic Recruits Disko & Releases "Cali Love" Single].
SFV resident Hectic released "Real Life Real Lyrics" in 2008 Hectic which went on to sell over 70,000 units independently across four projects, dropping tracks along the way including I'm A Hustler, On The Westside with Hot Dollar and We Them Boyz.
Then last year he dropped a collaboration album with Cloudstorm Ent entitled "Westcoast Comrades" along with the single Destined To Shine featuring Hectic, Jokaboy, MDK and Big Swiisha over a production by Alnasty.
In our last update where we annouced "One Bad Mexican" we delivered the single Cali Love featuring Disko and today we are reminding you that Hectic's third LP "One Bad Mexican" will be out in September and to check out his current video, for the record "Down 2 Ride" which features Valley Droop and is directed by Concrete - check it below

 Richie Rich is a man with a long history. Snoop Dogg once stated that he formed his 213 group and derived his rhyming style from being inspired by Rich's group 415 in the late 80's.
A few years later, he went on to be the first Bay Area act ever to be signed to Def Jam Records, culminating in the release of his critically acclaimed "Seasoned Veteran" album in 1996, which spawned the timeless classic "Do G's Get To Heaven".
With a world famous guest verse on The Luniz' remix to their multi-platinum hit "I Got 5 On It" ("Where you from? Oakland, smoking.") and guest appearances on 2Pac's two biggest albums "Me Against The World" and "All Eyez On Me", Richie Rich built his legacy as one of the pioneers of West Coast Hip-Hop.
After releasing five solo albums and two group albums, things went quiet around Double R for a few years. He made his return to the game in 2010 with the release of his "Town Bidness" album, which was warmly received by Rich's hungry fan base. On August 16th 2011, Richie Rich returns with the second installment, "Town Bidness Vol. 2".
For "Town Bidness Vol. 2", he reached out to Lil Jon and Mannie Fresh to come support him on the raw street single "Drought", along with Devin The Dude who joins Rich on the smoker's anthem "Blow Mine". Other guest appearances include Bay Area favorites J. Stalin and Shady Nate on "Robo".

He tells us about the struggles of being a rapper in Las Vegas trying to get recognition and how his grind ended up landing him a deal at Ghet-O-Vision/Def Jam.
He also talks about his friendship with fellow Ghet-O-Vision artist Yelawolf, who's also featured on Mr. Finley's current single "Oh Yeah".

It must have been at least five years since dubcnn first started reporting on Glasses Malone's official solo debut "The Beach Cruiser. From being up under Black Wall Street records, to being signed by by Sony Urban for 1.7 million, to moving to Hoo-Bangin'/Cash Money Records, the homie Glasses has already had his fair share of trials and tribulations in the industry.
But countless mixtapes and even more pushbacks later, the time has come for the official "Beach Cruiser" album on August 30th, via Suburban Noize/Cash Money.
A few days ago, Glasses leaked a record called "211" that was originally set to be the intro to "Beach Cruiser", but didn't make it due to sample clearance issues. Listen to the song and you'll know why - Glasses spits over some of Hip-Hop's timeless classics, introducing his album:

In a recent MTV interview Glasses said the album; "Represents the West Coast - slow, steady classic-ness. That's how I want my music to be: just as timeless as a Beach Cruiser." Game's highly anticipated "The R.E.D. Album" is one week away from seeing the light of day. Game is in full promo mode, knocking out interviews, including one with dubcnn which will be dropping in a couple of days.

 Pop singer Sabrina is back with her new single "Untitled: How Does It Feel", a remake of D'Angelo's classic record that was released over 11 years ago. Tracy Tyler, the producer, also starred in the new video and did a reenactment of D'Angelo's stunning visual performance.
The song was mixed by 3 time Grammy Award-winning engineer Niko Marzouca, and was mastered by the legendary Georgia Music Hall of Fame producer/engineer, Rodney Mills. Oliver Renier from Downtown Recording Studios (Louisville, KY & Denver Colorado) also worked on this soulful cross-over single.

Now a Blu Division artist and Glasses Malone protege he released his street album Pass Or Fail last year on Dubcnn and is gearing up to his new album "Dope Kicks Fresh Hat." As promised in our last update earlier this month, Quiz will be setting out a series of freestyle viral videos in the leadup to the new album.
