news Zune - Live at the BBQ, New York City, August 4 - July 31, 2007 By : JustinL

On Saturday, August 4, Zune will be executing their third show in its "Live at the BBQ" series in New York City, presenting a day of food, drinks and hip hip music to the community. The event is open to the public, and RSVP is required through the "Live at the BBQ" site www.zuneliveattheBBQ.com. Confirmed artists for the New York Zune BBQ include Brand Nubian, Cham, MIMS, Joell Ortiz, Clipse, and Large Professor.

Rather than sponsoring an existing concert series, the Zune team created the "Zune-Live at the BBQ" series from the ground up. Zune worked with artists directly, to give back to the cultural core consumer and connecting Zune with that core by giving them the opportunity to participate in the Zune mantra, which is to support Art, Music and Film in the digital space with technology and innovation. Consider these shows as rewards to those who have come to support the digital platform. By bringing music back to the community parks, they're also a thank you to those individuals in the cities who have come to support the local and national Art, Music and Film community. It's a nod to a time when this music was about community; community support and community interaction. The idea is to re-create that energy with the ultimate park jam experience. Zune launched the first BBQ experience in Los Angeles with performances by Common, UGK, E-40 and Collie Budz. Last weekend, the event series hit Chicago with performances by Mos Def, Talib Kweli, Bilal, Little Brother, Qualo, and a special set from Black Star.

RSVP here: www.zuneliveattheBBQ.com

news Chamillionaire: "Hip-Hop Police"/ "Evening News" Videos - July 28, 2007 By : Nima

Hip-Hop has just been blessed with two of the dopest videos in a long time. We can thank Chamillionaire, for stepping outside the box, being creative, and having the guts to give people something to think about, even after his blew up with "Ridin' Dirty". He could have went the easy route, he could have dropped a club banger with some big booty girls shaking their ass next to muscle cars in a bling'd out video, it probably would have done the job.

But Cham decided he wanted to take it to another level, thus his two latest videos, "Hip-Hop Police", featuring Slick Rick, and "Evening News".

You see Cham playing himself, a detective, a police officer, a white anchorman, the weatherman and more roles in these politically controversial videos.

Click the links below to watch both the videos on YouTube, and support Chamillionaire when he drops his sophomore project "Ultimate Victory" September 18th, because he deserves it for these two videos alone:

news Jazzy Jeff Plans "The Return Of The Magnificent" - July 23, 2007 By : Conan Milne

Today DubCNN adds to it's growing Reviews section with another fresh addition. This time we have critiqued the recently released Jazzy Jeff project, "The Return Of The Magnificent." The album offers a generous dose of conscious Hip-Hop, and sees Jeff tale helm as producer.

"The Return Of The Magnificent" also boasts high-profile appearances from the likes of Method Man and Kardinal Offishall . In this review we decide if such collaborations are ultimately worth checking out.

"The Return Of The Magnificent" receives the Dub Quotable: "Jazzy Jeff may be immortalized as the person hauled off the Bel-Air property, but those who refuse to take ‘Jazzy Jeff, the Hip-Hop honorary’ to heart are doing themselves a great disservice." news Slip Capone: Don't Call It A Comeback - July 21, 2007 By : Lil Jay

It's been a minute since the West has heard from names like Slip Capone, Knoc-Turn'al, or Time Bomb. All of them were signed to L.A. Confidential Records, which was headed by Big D. One of the label members, Slip Capone, was supposed to have his big debut with his album "Caponey Boy", which had completed songs with Nate Dogg, Dr. Dre, and other big names.

"My album never dropped due to different reasons." Slip told Dubcnn.com. "For one, there were a lot of creative differences. People want to put you in a box and make you a certain image.

But I'm way more than a gangsta rapper. I'm a gang member but I can rap my ass off about everything, not just jerry curl music. That was one problem, but there were a lot of haters in the mix. Not artists wise, but behind the scenes. The problem was the management and the people handling the business. I mean how can you have Dr. Dre, Nate Dogg, Aaron Hall on your album, but the album never drops? You can tell that it had nothing to do with money or how dope the record was. It's obvious that you have to be some kind of hater to not put out a record with all those names. The business just wasn't right, so I'd rather just walk away.
"

Today, Slip is currently putting together his upcoming project called "Kill The Industry". As far as features you can expect Bad Azz, Daz and Kurupt, Aaron Hall, and other, even international, guests. Production on "Kill The Industry" was handled by S-Dog, Dae One and other upcoming producers. "These are all West Coast guys that ain't Dr. Dre yet, but I guarantee you, they will be!" Slip continued.

Dubcnn has some old and some new audio from Slip Capone. We got two tracks from the new project "Kill The Industry", as well as two exclusive tracks from his unreleased "Caponey Boy" album, one of them being "Mind On My Money" featuring Nate Dogg with production by S-Dog.

Slip Capone - Devils Dance Floor
Slip Capone - Starvin Artist
Slip Capone - Mind On My Money Feat. Nate Dogg

news Zune's "Live at the BBQ" Chicago: Sunday, July 22 - July 20, 2007 By : JustinL

This coming Sunday, July 22, Zune will be taking its "Live at the BBQ" event to the communities of Chicago, presenting a day of food, drinks and hip hip music. The event is open to the public, and RSVP is required through the "Live at the BBQ" site . Confirmed artists for the Chicago Zune BBQ include Mos Def, Bilal, Little Brother, and Qualo.

Zune launched the first BBQ experience last week in Los Angeles with performances by Common, UGK, E-40 and Collie Budz. The "Live at the BBQ" series will continue following the Chicago date with an event in New York City on August 4th.

news Next In Line: A Da Business! - July 20, 2007 By : Lil Jay

If you've never heard of Los Angeles rapper A Da Business a.k.a. A-B, then it's not your fault. He has been quiet and patiently waiting a long time for his big break. The hard work behind the scenes has paid off, as he's currently in negotiations with several major record labels, thanks to his resume which includes names like 50 Cent, Kanye West, LT Hutton, Tyrese and many others.

Going back 3 years, A-B was introduced to 50 Cent to collaborate on a song called "Infrared" produced by Red Spyda.

To this day, the song is still unreleased. Why you ask? The reason is that the same beat later found its way onto "Guerilla City", a song from Guerilla Black's last album, even before A-B got his chance to shine.

"Me and 50 Cent originally did the song," A-B told Dubcnn.com. "but then the beat was sold to Guerilla Black. It wasn't Guerilla's fault, it was his A&R from Virgin Records who fucked up. He heard me on the song and he was like "I'm working on the Guerilla Black album, I need to buy that track!" So he went behind my back and bought the beat from Red Spyda. It was a gay ass lil' move. But I wasn't trippin', cause like I said, once 50 and me touched the song it was over! I never put the album out so the song never saw the light of day. If I would have put the album out, Guerilla Black would have never been able to put that song out. But Guerilla is my homeboy too, so it ain't no bad look for him, it's just his A&R." A-B continued.

A-B said that he might still use "Infrared" for his upcoming mixtape, but him and 50 are probably gonna do something new for the album. "50 did his thing on there for me as far as putting the hook on there, and I laced the verses. They did the song under Dr. Dre's roof, and you know, when they do something under his proof, it's a Dre beat automatically. But Spyda originally did the beat though. The only way Dre's name was gonna be on it is if I had put it on my album, but I was still gonna give Red Spyda his credit." A-B said.

When asked why he never got the chance to drop the album, even though it had appearances from heavyweights like 50 Cent, he said that "I couldn't drop it by myself. We need the deals to go through, and I never signed no contracts with nobody. I did that song independent, but I pulled that off being a hot artist. They asked me to come in and do a few songs and one thing led to another. I was also fucking with my family at BMF [Black Mafia Family], so everybody thought I was signed to them. I was an artist at BFM, but I never signed any contracts."

Around that time, Sha Money XL tried to sign A-B to G-Unit after the song with 50 was completed. And as of today, he's just looking for the right place to get signed. "Right now, my big homie Warren G is trying to shop me to Aftermath, so we're trying to see what's going on with that situation. Warren said that Aftermath would probably be the best place for me, being a L.A. artist. But I'm not the type of dude hunting down labels and beating down their doors telling them to play my music. I just stay recording, and whatever comes up, comes up!"

Being aware that many artists signed to Aftermath were dropped in the past, A-B explained that it's all about your dedication and your grind. "The record label can only do so much. It's on you to make yourself hot!"

A-B is currently cooking up hits behind closed doors, before he's getting ready to hit the big scene. He's got a new single that is about to drop called "Don't Get Me Confused" featuring Tyrese on the hook with production by LT Hutton. Frequent Dubcnn visitors will be familiar with the song, as it was previously featured on Tyrese's (a.k.a. Black Ty) mixtape "Ghetto Royalty", which we offered for free download a while ago. The mixtape version was a Remix and also featured a verse from Kurupt.

The track will be featured on his upcoming album "Have Heart, Have Money". To create a buzz for his debut, he's coming with a mixtape first called "Hood Classic". As you can see, A-B is about his work ethic. In addition to these two projects, he has already started working on his follow-up album called "All Business, Never Personal".

"Right now we're working on the marketing strategy and promotion for "Have Heart, Have Money", A-B told Dubcnn. "As for the music, I did everything on my own. I did over 70 songs with all kind of hot producers like LT Hutton, Kanye West, Jelly Roll, Denaun Porter, DJ Khalil, No I.D., KG from Naughty By Nature, Rick Rude, Rodney Jerkins, and many others. Basically I'm making the label's job a lot easier. The package is ready. What you wanna do? Just cut the check, start on media and promotion, drop the single, shoot a video, and it's a wrap!" he said.

Of course we're not gonna let you sit there reading this without bumping some of A-B's music. So we present you the aforementioned tracks "Infrared" featuring 50 Cent and "Don't Get Me Confused" featuring Tyrese, as well as another track called "Where You Are".

A-B - Infrared Feat. 50 Cent
A-B - Don't Get Me Confused Feat. Tyrese

news Introducing Fresno's Lieutenant - July 14, 2007 By : Lil Jay

Representing the West Coast, Lieutenant is giving life to a part of California that is not typically voiced, Fresno. After a few failed attempts with local labels, Lieutenant decided to take matters in to his own hands and begand to manage his career. But at the same time he was following the cliché path of so many other rappers, as Lieutenant began to peddle drugs in and around the city, in a desperate attempt of finance trips back and forth to Los Angeles, in hopes of breaking into the rap scene.

These trips paid off, as Lieutenant managed to prove himself and work with the likes of Teddy Riley, Rick Rock, Akon, and others. Fueled by inspiration from some of the greatest songwriters of all time, Scarface, Notorious B.I.G., 2Pac, and Stevie Wonder, he was able to develop his own technique.

To showcase his songwriting skills, Dubcnn has three songs from Lieutenant available for download. All songs were produced by Mynority Live (Nate Dogg, Lupe Fiasco, Cruna). My personal favorite being "Afta Tha Afta Party", has a self-explaining title, so you know how the song goes. Lieutenant comes off dope on a laid back joint with an addictive hook that is sure to have your speakers bumpin' early in the morning. The song is actually the #2 most requested record in The Kingdom Of Bahrain right now, and Lieutenant will be heading out there next month in support of the single. The other two tracks we have are called "Rock Music" and "Angels", two perfect examples for his diversity.

Lieutenant - Afta Tha Afta Party
Lieutenant - Rock Music
Lieutenant - Angels Feat. A.E.

news Deuce Deuce is Back Again - July 13, 2007 By : Adon

For those that don't remember, we first introduced you to the duo from Ottawa, Canada. back in 2005. Deuce-Deuce, is Harvey Stripes and Nelson Down. The pair grew up together; a fence literally separating each others hood. Nelson would hop the fence to escape the day-to-day hardships of his life and spent most of his time at Harveys house. They began rhyming together using their music as a way to voice their thoughts about their lives and what they saw happening around them. They continued to drop freestyles on cassette tapes with the aid of a karaoke machine and the music would spread like wild fire throughout their neighborhoods generating a buzz with people they had never even met before. The logical next step for this pair was to start putting on shows to get their name out there.

After successfully creating a buzz, the two are gearing up to release their new mixtape "Double or Nothing". The mixtape will feature production from Beat Merchant, the man behind Belly's number one hit, "Pressure". Below we have a track from the mixtape, "Emergency Room".

news Exclusive Westurn Union - "Cali Grown" [Audio] - July 10, 2007 By : Nima

Our exlcusive for the day is a brand new Westurn Union banger! Damani, Bad Lucc & Soopafly have shown that they have great chemistry together on the tracks that we've heard so far, and "Cali Grown" is no exception. Over an upbeat Soopafly production, each of the three MC's do their thing.

Download the song below:

Westurn Union - Cali Grown (Prod. by Soopafly)

It should be a crime that Soopafly doesn't have an album out on a major, because he sounds as fresh as he did in '96 on Tha Doggfather. Damani and Bad Lucc have both been very impressing as well, they killed it on "The Big Squeeze", Damani with his playerish swagger, and Bad Lucc with his murderous rhymes. The Westurn Union is definitely an album to watch out for!

news Potent Poets Represent Their City - July 10, 2007 By : Adon

Things don't always work out like they're supposed to. As is the case with Vancouver's Potent Poets. We first introduced you to the group in April of 2005. They were very well recieved and had nothing but positive feedback. The Group, consisting of Profe-C, Bigg Tripp, Ill Dramatics and Mista Drizz had almost finished recording their project for Chronico Music when the project was scrapped for personal reasons. There was no bad blood involved, and everyone kept ownership of their contributions. So expect to see bits and pieces end up on other projects.

The album was to feature production from C-Infamous, and feature Spice 1. Since the disbanding of the group, Profe-C has almost completed his solo album, Drizz has moved to Seattle, and C-Infamous is still busy producing for other artists, including material with G Hoodfellaz.

There was one song that created a lot of buzz for the album both locally, and internationally. It was a song that featured a traditional west coast beat with C-Infamous on the talk box, and the group representing where they're from. We released "My City" in low quality last year, and received a ton of emails asking for a good quality version. Well now that the Potent Poets project is scrapped, we can offer you the full length high quality version to download.

Potent Poets My City (Produced By C-Infamous)

Stay tuned for more info on solo projects from the group, and where this song might end up finding a home.

news Big Save Going The "Paper Route" w/ Kokane & Sly Boogy - July 6, 2007 By : Lil Jay

Born in Kingston, Jamaica, Big Save is an up and coming producer/rapper with strong influences that are rooted in reggae music. His father was good friends with Bob Marley, while his father's cousin Oswald Palmer was a studio engineer for Marley. Big Save's mother sang for Dennis Brown, one of the pioneers of reggae music. Coming from a family with such a impressive musical background, it's no wonder that Save is a self-taught musician, as he taught himself how to play the piano.

As Big Save puts it himself, he is trying to gain exposure as a producer and rapper, but he is a producer first. His production is not limited to a certain style, he creates beats for the West and East Coast audience as well as other genres like Reggae, R&B, Reggaeton, and others. Save is currently producing for various up and coming artists including Demolition, who is an underground reggae artist from Jamaica who has written for Wayne Wonder and worked with various other dancehall artists.

Today we'd like to introduce the world to Save with a track for the West Coast crowd. For one of his latest tracks he linked up with West Coast pioneer Kokane and Sly Boogy, with the help from the aforementioned Demolition. The track is called "Paper Route", and of course we got the track available for download. Fore more info on Big Save, hit up his MySpace page at myspace.com/bigsave

news Reggae Meets The West Bay - July 5, 2007 By : Adon

Over the last couple of years, the Bay Area has been known for doing new things musically. They've even spawned a new sub genre in the process. With Hyphy being the new sound of the bay, it seems that most artists in the area are buying in and doing their part to contribute; bringing more attention to the region.

With eyes and ears on the Bay Area, Fredrock and The Trench Town Husltaz are bringing something else new and fresh to the Bay Area, West Bay to be exact.

They've conceived an idea to bring in something old and make it new and fresh again. They've recorded an entire album with a reggae twist. This isn't the type of music you'd expect to come out of the region, but they pulled it off. They've managed to keep the same vibe that the music intended, while rapping and singing over the instrumentals. Reggae Meets the West Bay will be dropping in August. Below we have 2 songs to check out from the album.

Trench Town Hustlaz - Can You Go Dumb

Trench Town Hustlaz - Mobbin

Be on the lookout for a new album from TTH coming soon, featuring San Quinn, The Jacka and more. For more info check out TTH on Myspace.

news "Self & Kind" Back On The Agenda For Kam - July 5, 2007 By : Rud

With his overt sociopolitical/spiritual stance, somewhat rare for a West Coast rapper, Kam's angst-ridden brand of hardcore rap helped set the mark by which other socially-conscious emcees would be judged.

Originally affiliated with Ice Cube, Kam's releases appeared sporadically, initially debuting on the Boyz N the Hood soundtrack (Every Single Weekend), and then releasing his first solo album, "Neva Again" (1993, on East/West Atlantic Records).

His powerful sophomore release, "Made in America" was released to critical acclaim in 1995, although a lack of commitment from the Label, due to the merger between Warner/Elektra/Atlantic (WEA), and his political stance at the time, eventually led to his departure.

The talk surrounding his latest album, which will be his fourth album - the follow up to 2001's "Kamnesia," has been ongoing for many years now. "Self & Kind" was originally announced and then completed some years ago however problems arose that saw the long awaited project scrapped. Today however, with his recent alignment with Snoop Dogg and his new group Warzone alongside Goldie Loc & MC Eiht, "Self & Kind" is back on the agenda.

Already well under production the album is set to feature Snoop Dogg, Nate Dogg, Tyrese, The Game, Akon and other heavyweights with production set to come from DJ Pooh, BattleCat, Sir Jinx and even Dr. Dre. Only time will tell how this release comes together and when it gets released however we are confident "Self & Kind" will see the light of day later this year.

Today we can provide a track set to feature on the album that has been floating around for a few weeks now that features Kam's brother Yung Bruh on a cut called "Dirty West." We have both the Dirty & Radio versions available for download below, DJ's make sure you get a copy and help promote Kam and "Self & Kind."
