news Watts' Jay Rock Readies "Follow Me Home" For July - April 30, 2007 By : Rud

Although featured in countless updates as a feature or a name referenced by another artist, Jay Rock has not as yet been a mainstay on dubcnn. That changed last week when staff member Eddie Gurolla caught up with the man himself at the Rimac Arena in San Diego, CA.

Hailing from Watts, California, rap sensation Jay Rock is being groomed to dominate the West Coast rap scene. His powerful single "Lift Me Up" is currently in heavy rotation on Los Angeles’s number one radio station, Power 106.

After grinding hard to get his name out to the public and opening up for stars like (DJ) Quik, The Game and Slim Thug, Jay Rock is ready to step into the spotlight.

His debut album, "Follow Me Home," due out July 10th, is what Jay Rock describes as "a straight, real ghetto album." The CD, coming out on Warner Bros/Top Dawg Productions, features an all-star production lineup, with the likes of (DJ) Quik, Fred Wreck, Kay Gee from Naughty by Nature and JR Rotem contributing tracks. When asked about his time in the studio with (DJ) Quik, Jay Rock told us that "he’s definitely the most creative person I’ve worked with."

The unique opportunity to work with Kay Gee arose when Jay Rock’s associate Niam Ali reached out to the super producer on Jay Rock’s behalf. "We flew out to a studio in Jersey and made it happen," reflects Jay Rock. The album features guest appearances from E-40, Yung Joc and K-Dot as well as The Game, who also contributed production. Be on the lookout for more on Jay Rock on dubcnn soon!

For more information on Jay Rock and the debut album "Follow Me Home" in the meantime, head over to his official MySpace page or TopDawgProductions.com for the latest.

news Crooked I "Hip-Hop Weekly" - Vol. 3 [Audio] - April 18, 2007 By : Nima

We're back with the third issue of Crooked I's "Hip-Hop Weekly" freestyles. Last week, Crooked ate up DMX on his vicious "I'm Throw'd" freestyle, so this week he decided to take it more smootly this week, blessing Tha Dogg Pound's "Vibe Wit A Pimp" beat with his words. Towards the end of the song, the beat switches up to Lil Flip's "Take You There" which features Nate Dogg.

In regular Crooked I fashion, he straight up killed it, but what else did you expect? He also shouts out some of the West's finest on the track, which is always nice to hear. These Hip-Hop Weekly's have been on fire, I'm already anticipating Vol. 4., but you have all week to enjoy this one, download it below:

Crooked I - Vibe Wit A Bo$$ / Take You There (Freestyle)

Enjoy the song, and check back with us next week for Volume 4!

The West Coast rapper gets into his upcoming album "Kunta Kinte Theory" and speaks about working with different artists for the album, such as DJ Bobcat, Polarbear, Jay Rock, Spit Fiya, Q-Unique of The Arsonists, Big Syke, Ne-Yo, and others. He talks about his experiences with reaching new markets in the world, for instance, charting in overseas countries with his two previous mixtapes, and touring the world. news Luni Coleone & Cool Nutz Celebrate "Every Single Day" - April 18, 2007 By : Lil Jay

Luni Coleone and Cool Nutz are set to release their new album "Every Single Day" June 5 on Always Hustlin’ Entertainment / Jus Family Records. The independent album will be released independently through RBC Records (Tech N9ne, 8Ball, C-Bo, Planet Asia and more). Luni Coleone is one of the most prolific and respected Northern California rappers, while Oregon rapper Cool Nutz is a pioneer in his region. Every Single Day is the pair’s first collaborative effort and the chemistry shows throughout the monumental release which unites two of the Pacific Coast’s most renowned street-certified acts.

When the two hit the studio in Washington state to start recording "Every Single Day", they made a point to focus on things that people from all over the world could gravitate towards. The sonically mellow but lyrically intense title track sets the album off with a nice blend of gangsterism, lyricism and reality.

Other highlights on the album include the car anthem “Skirt” which describes the street car culture and includes Rocafella, whose voicebox (the voice-alteration method popularized by Roger Troutman) gives the song a classic feel. Luni Coleone & Cool Nutz know that diversity is key, which is why they switch their sound on “Here Go” and “What,” two rowdy, intense crunk and hyphy cuts.

Now working together, Luni Coleone & Cool Nutz have delivered what is sure to be one of the best independent rap albums of the year with Every Single Day. Maybe that’s because the collaboration was a natural one.

Get a sneak preview of the album by downloading the 2 songs below. "That Doe" featuring and produced by Bosko, and "Luv For Slugs".

news Crooked I "Hip-Hop Weekly" - Disses DMX [Audio] - April 11, 2007 By : Nima

We're back with the second issue of Crooked I's "Hip-Hop Weekly" series, where he will be dropping a new freestyle track every week for the fans to download. Incase you missed to first issue, click here to download it.

This week, Crooked raps over the "I'm Throwed" beat that Jermaine Dupri did for Paul Wall. Crooked gets real controversial on this one, as he disses the hell out of DMX. This resulted from recent coments DMX made about the West Coast, here is a portion of what X said: "I don't like a lot of West Coast rappers. West Coast rap is too laid back, too focused on marijuana with all the blunts and lowriders. There's nothing honest. There's no hardship in it. Everyone in L.A. that raps has a lowrider and a fat blunt. There's nothin' to make you say, 'I can relate to that.'"

Crooked was one of many rappers who took offence to those statements, so he decided to air out his feelings on wax. Download the "I'm Throwed Freestyle" below:

Crooked I - I'm Throwed (Freestyle)

Check back with us next week for the next "Hip-Hop Weekly" track.

Dubcnn readers that have been with us for many years may be able to remember us promoting music from Long Beach duo Fratt House.

The last time we heard from G.B. and E-Money was back in Janaury 2006 [see; Soulhood/Lethal Entertainment Gear Up For 2006] when they were readying their then self-titled debut album. Since then, the group formally known as P.S.C, have been recording material for this release and have recently aligned with D.P.G's own Daz Dillinger.

The unification will see Daz Dillinger producing on and promoting Fratt House's album now titled "Frat House University" due later this summer on Gangsta Advisory/Relic Entertainment/Koch.

The first single from the album features Daz Dillinger and is called "I Am So Fly," the production on this track comes from another dubcnn regular, G-Flow, who many will remember from his "Armageddon" release featuring Truth Hurts, RBX, Lady Of Rage, Crooked I, Sly Boogy and more. He also produced the "Dubcnn Anthem" from Sly Boogy, Caliph, Hump and Bo Rocc (of The Dove Shack) that we dropped in October 2005, [see; G-Flow Presents: The Dubcnn Anthem]

The single "I Am So Fly" is already generating major response from record pools and local club play and Fratt House are ready to take it to the next level with dubcnn releasing the track for exclusive download. Check out the new music below and drop feedback over at the Dubcnn Community.

news Young Buck & Redman's Latest Solo's Reviewed - April 6, 2007 By : Rud

Today we have two new and exclusive reviews from Dubcnn's own Music Editor, Conan Milne. Last week saw the long awaited sopohomore LP from G-Unit's Young Buck. The heavily delayed and much discussed "Buck The World" finally hit shelves on March 27th and as such Conan takes the time to put this latest effort from the G-Unit Soldier under the microscope.

The Dub Quotable for "Buck The World" reads: "Delve beyond the cynic-baiting title, and Buck captivates on an album that uses the brash G-Unit formula to impressive effect" as well earning a reasonable Dub Rating.

Is it enough to save the G-Unit empire from is much talked about implosion? - Read the review below to find out.

Young Buck - Buck The World (Review)

Next up is the even longer awaited studio solo release from Redman. The Funk Doc is back with his latest Def Jam offering and everyone wants to know if it has met the level of expectation. With poor promotion and lacklustre label support this release is really being supported heavily online.

Conan takes "Red Gone Wild" to task in this review to see if it has been worth the agonising wait and if the Dub Quotable is anything to go by, he may just have managed it; "Reggie Noble is back, and Red Gone Wild appeases six years worth of hype." Conan even awards the Brick City native a respectable Dub Rating, read the full review below.

news Wes Indeed The Newest Group On The West Coast? - April 3, 2007 By : Lil Jay

"You say you a G, started banging in 2003 / let's see, that's like 20 years after me"

Dresta Da Gangsta is back on Dubcnn to speak the truth, and he didn't come alone: He brought his partner in crime BG Knocc Out with him, along with Young Maylay, Young Dre The Truth, Killa Polk, and Compton Cavie.

These 6 rappers are not here for no reason, as they want to put the word out that they are in talks of forming a group called Wes Indeed.

Nothing is official and confirmed yet, but the combination sounds definitely right. Not to mention that it's bringing the OG's together with the young guns of the West Coast.

Wes Indeed doesn't just look right on paper, because a sneak preview is already here to prove that the chemistry is there. They've already recorded songs under the collective, one of them being the self-titled track "Wes Indeed".

We'll see what comes out of this, but the song is a banger and Dubcnn is here to bring it to you exclusively:

Dresta, BG Knocc Out, Young Maylay, Young Dre, Killa Polk, Compton Cavie - Wes Indeed

news Introducing Fly Society - April 3, 2007 By : Lil Jay

Breaking down barriers through the fusion of Hip Hop and the skate world emerges three magnetic talents, TK, the International Pro Skater and Captain of Pharrell’s Ice Cream Skate Team, H.I.T., the Long Beach Lyricist (who's also representing one half of the Long Beach rap group Lifestyle with Snoop Dogg's younger brother Bing), and last but not least Currency the Magnolia Hot Spitta, collectively known as Fly Society.
