news Exclusive Snoop Dogg Throwback Joint - March 29, 2007 By : Lil Jay

Today we take you back to the good ole' 90's for an exclusive throwback joint. Not only do we cover certified classics for the throwback ride, but also unreleased tracks that never hit the public. And chances are slim that the average West Coast listener heard this song before. This is a special drop from the Dubcnn archives for all the Death Row fans, especially all the Snoop Dogg fans.

We bring you an unreleased Snoop Doggy Dogg track that was recorded during the "Doggfather" sessions. The song was supposed to appear on the album, but got cut later on. It's called "Work It Out" and it features Shaquille O'Neal and Mista Grimm. As Snoop revealed in Part 4 of our exclusive interview back in January, that was the time when he hooked up with Shaq on the music tip:

"Actually, that's how me and Shaquille O'Neal got real cool, cause of that particular album. There's a song called "Dippin' In My Low-Low", he wanted that song that muthafuckin' bad, the nigga came to my studio like "Nigga I need to get that song!!!" I was like "Nigga that's Shaq!" I gave him the song and me and him ended up making some music together and we became cool after that. But you know me, like I said, I done made a lot of classic shit that I don't even remember or don't even know where the fuck it's at! I think I done been a part of atleast a thousand songs. And I've been a part of atleast a hundred hit records!"

Dogg ain't lying about them songs! As for "Work It Out", that is one of them collabos Snoop and Shaq ended up recording together. Shaq did the first verse, while Mr. Indo Smoke himself is rapping on the second verse. And you already know that Snoop did his thing on the last verse. As you can tell by the overall vibe of the song, it has that "1996 Doggfather funk" feel to it.

Download the song by hitting the link below:

The forecast for the summer just got a whole lot chillier, as the Snowman has just announced a May 22nd release date for the first release from his Corporate Thugz Entertainment (CTE) label, Young Jeezy Presents USDA: Cold Summer.

"It's crazy," Jeezy recently told MTV News. "I wanted to do it mixtape-style 'cause I wanted it to be something for the streets. It's like Trap or Die on steroids. I love that. It's a street album, just raw."

Young Jeezy Presents USDA: Cold Summer is a certified street banger from top to bottom, featuring production work from CTE's stable of up-and-coming producers like Sanchez, Nazty, Midnight Black and Drumma Boy, who produced the group's first 808-heavy single "White Girl."

Built into Jeezy's set is a segment highlighting USDA, including "White Girl," which is already starting to buzz in the south. And starting today, fans will be able to check out exclusive footage of the group on the road on USDA TV, a YouTube channel set up by CTE.

news Young Teazy Delivers "Suburban Talk" On Debut - March 28, 2007 By : Rud

Keeping a healthy blend of both unsigned, upcoming artists and established, mainstream stars is often a difficult factor to balance. At Dubcnn we have always looked to strike that exact balance and today is no different. Today we introduce an artist originally from Compton, CA, now residing in the Moreno Valley.

Young Teazy aka Da Boy Feva is 24 years of age and credits artists inlcuding Tupac, Notorious B.I.G., Snoop Dogg, The Game, Lil Wayne and 50 Cent as his core influences of his music.

From childhood ambitions of becoming a lawyer or a singer he, by the age of 12, had begun listening to artists including Eazy E and the Geto Boys.

This early introduction gave him the drive to learn the art of rapping and crafting music. Now nearing his mid-twenties Young Teazy has developed a unique style and is determined that Hip-Hop is the industry he wants to unleash it on.

Now regular readers may already be asking "Do I know this artist?" - indeed many of you will however perhaps not in the form of a solo artist; Young Teazy is from the previously dubcnn featured group Dubb"N"It. Last year we released the then first track from Young Teazy's planned debut album "Suburban Talk" with Sly Boogy entitled "Ass Up". [see; New Music From Dubb"N"It & Sly Boogy.]

Since then Young Teazy has released his debut "Suburban Talk" to widespread acclaim and he and the rest of Dubb"N"It are currently on a "God Bless The Negative" Tour with Frank Nitty around local High Schools as they look to make 2007 their year.

Today we want to focus on Young Teazy and the "Suburban Talk" release which includes production from upcoming producers such as Mac Ross, Noriega, E-Mac and Fenom all from Moreno Valley, Ca. The album features the other artists from Dubb"N"It including Young Faze, J-Porter and E-Mac. Below is the full album tracklist and five exclusive cuts for you to check out.

news Tha Dogg Pound's "Dogg Chit" In Stores Today! - March 27, 2007 By : Nima

Tha Dogg Pound is back with the anticipated “Dogg Chit’, Daz and Kurupt’s latest group album, which dropped today on Koch Records. The video to the first single “Vibe With A Pimp” was shot a few weeks ago in L.A. and should be airing soon, lookout for behind the scenes pictures from the video shoot on dubcnn this week.

The first feedback from the fans has been very positive, “Dogg Chit” brings you Daz and Kurupt doing what they do best, delivering raw uncut gangsta music. Daz supplied the production, Dogg Pound from top to bottom, and Daz and Kurupt both stepped their rhymes up compared to “Cali Iz Active”.

The guest appearances are also interesting, as you see Bad Azz back with the boys on “Where U From”, for which you can see the video here. The Game joins the Pound on “Anybody Killa”, an old school sounding track, with Game tearing the song apart. Sac-Town rhyme spitter Brotha Lynch Hung makes an appearance as well, making the DPG/Lynch connection official, after Lynch’s song “Territory” with Snoop Dogg.

Too Short shows up for a pimpish verse on the sexually explicit “Can’t Get Enough”, with Snoop Dogg and RBX appearing on “Bucc’em”. The most memorable track however has to be “Blaze It Up”, which reunites some old allies, and brings in a fresh face. I’m talking about Jayo Felony, Dre’sta, B.G. Knocc Out and Glasses Malone, who bless the Dogg Pound with some fire rhymes on the closing track of the album.

We have the tracklisting of the album below, you can click on the highlighted links to listen to the songs or watch the videos:

It's been quiet around Lil Eazy-E, but this might just be the silence before the storm... Because Lil E has been grinding hard, and his debut solo album "Prince Of Compton", which is set to hit stores this summer, is shaping up to be a monster.

I had the pleasure of hearing several of the songs recorded for the album at the studio, and Eazy, with the help of grammy-winning producer Chink Santana, mostly known for his platinum work for Murder Inc, is definitely not to be slept on.

The son of the Godfather of Gangsta Rap is bringing some straight gangsta music to the fans who have been eagerly waiting for him.

Until the first single drops, we have a new track for ya'll, a remake of "Boyz-N-Tha-Hood", produced by Chink Santana. Get it below:

news Terrace Martin Signs With Warner Brothers Records - March 27, 2007 By : Rud

Warner Bros. Records have just announced the signing of a new label and production deal with Terrace Martin, the Los Angeles rapper and producer who has worked with Snoop Dogg, 50 Cent and Talib Kweli amongst others.

Under the terms of the deal, Warner Bros. Records will market, promote, and distribute artists that Terrace Martin signs to his company Jakai Music Group. Martin will also produce current Warner Bros. Records artists, including the upcoming Blacksmith/WBR release from Talib Kweli, as well as put out his own music, including his debut album, which he is currently working on.

Terrace Martin is a throwback to a pure form of musician - he believes in crafting real music and conceptual songs from scratch. Tick, A&R Director for WBR explained; "When Craig Aaronson, Naim Ali and I banded together to sign Terrace Martin, we all knew we had the total package of artist, producer and entrepreneur."

Currently Martin is best known for his production work on albums by Snoop Dogg, such as Snoop's recent gold-certified, soon to be platinum album "Tha Blue Carpet Treatment," and other artists in Tha Dogg Pound.

Terrace Martin, who is also a jazz saxophonist who has played with Stevie Wonder and Herbie Hancock, describes his style as; "Sounds that would happen if [hip-hop artist/producer] Hi-Tek was to have lunch with the Beatles, then go play with Michael Jackson's monkeys, then go kick it with Miles Davis. It's fun, feel-good music!"

We will keep you updated on this new deal and the music that comes out of the Jakai Music Group over the current months. For those of you who want to know more about Terrace Martin head over to his official MySpace page.

So far he has tracks completed with The Game, Snoop Dogg, Eastwood, Kam, Bo-Rocc and Kurupt as well as cuts with Ne-Yo, Pharell and Nelly. The album, set to be entitled "F-ck Yo Label, Sue Me" is also set to feature production from Rodney Jerkins, Battlecat, Big Deon, Touch, Josef Leimberg, The Neckbones and more.

Today however we have been handed a new track by DK that is going at New York's own Tru Life, who has been in the news over recent weeks for his beef with Dipset. When we asked about the cut "Gangbang Mentality" DK wanted to explain the back story to the issues that have arisen; "He [Tru Life] hangs with a dude named Young Dre from the east side out here. Young Dre hooked him up with us. Thinking he was straight cuz he was with Young Dre we took him everywhere, places people from L.A. cant even go! He wears KC hats trying to be Young Dre and raps like him also. My home-girl SKG interviewed him and he started talking boatloads of sh-t about N.Y. & L.A. n-ggas and bangers in general. He said that everybody that bangs is some corny ass n-ggas and that when he comes home to N.Y. he doesn't wanna see no jheri curls, dickies or low-riders - that sh-t is corny, thats them L.A. n-ggas shit, let them do that - we some fly n-ggas, they corny, we fly n-ggas. He then said Snoop [Dogg] is a fake crip that cant even go to his own hood. He then went on to diss 50 Cent - '50 is a fake ass snitch, he didn't get shot 9 times, i got shot 9 times. 50 can't come back to queens, they'll kill him'. I know n-ggas that both these n-ggas have helped. Snoop is executive producer on Tru Life's album so to say some b-tch shit like that is foul! Snoop & 50 have helped n-ggas i know personally like Game, 40 Glocc, Spider Loc, Kurupt, Gail Gotti, Kam, Bad Lucc, MC Eiht, Goldie Loc, Coniyac, Big Chan etc.

DK went on to explain; "Tru life asked my homie Big Cartoon where we were going and Cartoon said 'to the hood' and Tru Life asked him 'should he leave his chain in the room or just tuck it in' which got Cartoon angry - 'n-gga you wit me, we dont tuck our chains!' [After the interview] His manager paid SKG to remove the footage from the DVD, which she did, but then they tried to pay her to destroy it, which she would've had they not told someone she was lying and that he never said the [aforementioned] sh-t! SKG got mad and showed us [the footage] and Tru Life is a real b*tch. Anyone who saw "Beef" knows this, he thought he did something when his folks ran in the studio & stripped the engineer & the runners - they some college kids earning credits, you dont get stripes for that n-gga. Tru Life is a b-tch plain & simple, if he says hes not just tell him all he has to do is take my fade - DK No Deal - Fly City - you can print this my n-gg.

As you can determine from that quote DK is heated and wants his feelings heard, below is the new track "Gangbang Mentality" for exclusive download

DK - Gangbang Mentality (Tru Life Diss)

news EA Ski & Keyshia Cole At Boost Mobile RockCorps Event - March 25, 2007 By : Rud

Boost Mobile RockCorps (BMRC), the national youth volunteerism movement that has motivated more than 16,000 young people to get involved and help their communities, today announced that platinum recording artist Keyshia Cole and Bay-area rap legend EA Ski are to perform at this year's BMRC concert event at San Francisco's "The Grand" at The Regency Center on April 9.

The event is in celebration and reward the hard-working local youth who have volunteered four hours of community service in Oakland through BMRC to earn tickets to this ultra-exclusive event.

RockCorps, an organization harnessing the power of music to inspire volunteerism, and Boost Mobile, a wireless telecommunications brand dedicated to boosting the lives of today's youth, continue their highly successful partnership for the third year in a row.

BMRC exposes young people to simple and fun ways they can proactively contribute to their neighborhoods and positively transform society. Combining the power of music, community and volunteerism, Boost Mobile RockCorps will offer entrance to this summer's most popular concerts for which the only way in is to earn tickets by contributing four hours of volunteer service.

A recent comparison of BMRC and non-BMRC participants illustrates the impact of the program on today's young people. Findings suggest close to 80% of BMRC volunteers are likely to volunteer again in the future - without a concert ticket/reward. Additionally, 73% of participants who attended the BMRC concert conveyed it gave them a sense of how powerful volunteer work can be. Music has the power to bring people together, and Boost Mobile RockCorps is channeling this power as a catalyst for making volunteering cool and relevant to today's youth.

Youth interested in becoming part of the Boost Mobile RockCorps movement can call BMRC at 1-888-ROCK-889, or log onto Boost Mobile RockCorps for more information and to register for membership.

news Musical Trio Sa-Ra Putting Rumors to Rest - March 21, 2007 By : JustinL

Despite rumors that Shafiq, Om’Mas and Taz of the musical trio Sa-Ra have disbanded, the group known best for their work wiith Kanye West (they were signed to his G.O.O.D. Music label) is putting those rumors to rest with the May release of The Hollywood Recordings, the prequel to their forthcoming major label debut, on renowned indie Babygrande Records.

With high profile guest spots including Featuring Erykah Badu, Talib Kweli, Bilal, J Dilla, Capone-N-Noreaga, Pharaohe Monch, Kurupt, Georgia Anne Muldrow, Lord Nes and more, The Hollywood Recordings defies categorization and represents Sa-Ra’s complete vision, which encompasses more than just music. “We take the best of all doctrines, practices and sciences, and have developed our own style,” Om’Mas explains. Taz adds, “Our music contains a deeper meaning, a real purpose.”

“You look at James Brown, Prince, Jimi Hendrix, John Coltrane, Parliament -- all of the originals, the Gs of whatever they did -- people didn’t get it at first,” Shafiq says. “It wasn’t until they madde it cool. Then, when they made it cool, everybody was doing it. Our job is to make history, not to entertain. Our job is to change, add and contribute to what the greats have already contributed.”

A product of South Central Los Angeles and the South Bronx, group founder Shafiq cut his teeth producing with Ice-T and Lord Finesse. Om’Mas was a quality mixer and engineer for a host of talent, including Ice-T, Foxy Brown, Mobb Deep and Jam Master Jay. While meeting with fellow South Central Los Angeles-based Taz in 1989, Shafiq realized that the three could make magic together, and formed Sa-Ra, meaning “offspring of the most powerful energy in the universe;” the name also means “children of the cosmos.”

The group’s subsequent production work with and for the likes of Dr. Dre, Kanye West, John Legend, Jurassic 5, Ice-T, Lord Finesse and others was accompanied by Sa-Ra releases: the Dark Matter And Pornography Mixtape and The Second Time Around. All of Sa-Ra’s work is marked by a connection to your soul, your being. It’s an intangible link to your inner self, making their output indispensable. It is something that cannot be ignored, as it cuts to the core of existence.

news Mista Cane "In My Life" Debut Solo Album - March 13, 2007 By : Adon

Mista Cane took the mixtape scene by storm by dropping 4 mixtapes with his Alliance Crew in 2003-2004. In that 2 year span the mixtapes created a strong buzz with each volume pushing a respectable 20,000 copies on average. Mista Cane, along with the Alliance, had created a solid fanbase. Since then Mista Cane has been touring with Andre Nickatina (aka Dre Dog) throughout several states including California, Washington & Arizona. From clubs to colleges getting the message out that he was here to stay. He has also contributed to 2 successful independent group efforts (2003's Pervelous P Camp, and 2005's High Risk High High Reward with Arsen).

Now fresh off the recent success of his solo mixtape "Contract Year" with Bronx based DJ Iroc of Amerikkkas Most Wanted Djs, Cane has dropped his debut solo album "In My Life" to the masses. The album features artists such as The Game (on 3 tracks), Mike Marshall, Cali Agents, and more. With production being handled by Davey D. Cohn, Sean T, and One Drop Scott.

The song topics are not what people are expecting coming out of the Bay Area presently. Instead of the typical high energy music, he chooses to elaborate on the hardships of being raised in poverty and how to overcome adversity with songs like "Slow Down", "True Confessions", and "In My Life". He explains the difficulties faced in the music industry on "Hard Work" and on "The Nightshift" he explains why kids would turn to crime with so many other avenues in life. What is most refreshing is the ability to come off intelligent in his songs without sounding like a preacher. Add all of this with the solid production provided throughout and you have an excellent debut album. Overall this album is a breathe of fresh air in a genre that has become stale and repetitive. The album is in stores nationwide now.

We had the chance to sit down with Mista Cane for a brief interview.

Read the interview here.

Mista cane also recorded an exclusive cut for us. Download "Go" below.

news Rugged Intellect Drops "The Renaissance" - March 13, 2007 By : Lil Jay

On May 8th, Rugged Intellect releases his debut album entitled "The Renaissance". It features thorough production and lyrical cameos from legends like Kool G Rap, Ras Kass, Heltah Skeltah, AG and Party Arty of DITC, Rustee Juxx, RA the Rugged Man, and more. Production by Domingo, Buckwild, Memo of the Molemen and more.

"The Renaissance" is not that monotonous hollow homage to the Hip Hop that was from way back. This is no tribute album. "

The Renaissance" is a living testament to the Hip Hop that lives and breathes on the streets. Rugged Intellect knows the truth about coming from broken homes, poverty and urban survival instincts.

The song "Next Dose" aligns Rugged Intellect with west coast icon Ras Kass. These two cats maul the beat from beginning to end. Displaying humility and courage in the same verse "I'm panoramic while you're petrified, I'm not the best alive/ But when I grab the mic and spit you could have sworn it was holy the way I testified."

Nevertheless, Rugged Intellect does not rely on cameos to carry "The Renaissance". He stays consistent in his approach and presence on tracks like "Say Goodbye" and "Unsigned Hype". These tracks burn visual stories and infectious hooks to the listeners mind. You can't fake sincerity on the mic. Gimmicks have no place for MC's who come from the heart.

Check out the video of "Next Dose" below:

news Meko Makafi Is "Fresh Ta Death" On Traxamillion Mixtape - March 8, 2007 By : Rud

With the resurgence of the Bay Area over recent years countless artists are grinding hard to try and make their mark in a competitive industry. Last month we introduced Cousin Fik to many who may not have been aware of him to a great response and as such this month we aim to do the same with another new talent.

Meko Makafi is an artist that hails from the 408 (San Jose, CA) who has been steadily trying to come up within the Bay Scene.

Having moved to San Jose from Oxnard when he was two years old Meko grew up in a family envirnonment that introduced him to music from an early age, from listening to records with his parents to weekend house parties. He got into music over a decade ago when he was part of a group called Self Made Hustlas that released an album in 2000 which sold well locally however creative differences soon forced Meko to head the solo route.

When asked about what he feels he brings to the game Meko told us; "Real hip hop, bangin beats, and music that relates to the masses is what im tryna make. Not enough rappers in the industry today do that. You’ll find me reading music magazines, watching MTV/BET/VH1, or digging deep in the records stores in order to stay on top of the game, which allows me to sleep on nothing."

Inspired by MC's including Nas, Jay-Z and Bay Area veteran E-40, Meko has spent time studying his peers to learn techniques to craft songs. In a short time grinding as a solo artist he has already worked with artist including Turf Talk, The Team, San Quinn, Mistah F.A.B., Messy Marv and Mike Marshall. He is currently finishing up his long awaited debut album "Now Or Never" as well as flooding the streets with two more mixtapes; "C.A.K.E.(Cash, Achievin, Knowledge, Entrepenuership) Volumes One and Two.

With this in mind Meko has also opted to release his most recent mixtape "Fresh Ta Death," which is hosted by Traxamillion, for free download right here on dubcnn - what better way to get to know a new artist than by a CD's worth of material?

"I’m not trying to just do, say, or make anything," Meko told Dubcnn, "I’m just bringing music that is real, that is soulful, that is undeniably body moving and neck breakin. I am just like you - I love music and I’m a fan. I want to make people feel how music makes me feel...complete."

With that in mind we present to you the "Fresh Ta Death" mixtape hosted by Traxamillion for exclusive download below as well as two individual tracks for those who want to sample those prior to the full mixtape.

01) Traxamillion Intro
02) You Don't Know
03) Fibz
04) Bay Whomp
05) The Grind
06) Its The Only Way
07) So Fly
08) Fresh Ta Death
09) Can You Hear Me Now?
10) Girbauds
11) And It Goes
12) Time
13) Call Me Makafizzle (Produced By Traxamillion)

news The World Can Expect Some "Bad Lucc" In 2007 - March 2, 2007 By : Rud

Since we first unleashed Watts flame spitter Bad Lucc onto our readers in 2005 things have snowballed dramatically for the up and coming artist.

From relative obscurity he emerged and instantly made the world sit up and take note; from his vocal tone to his flow, from his lyrics to his ability to craft a song - he made sure that when he dropped a track it was fresh and worthy of listeners attention.

Westurn Union, a group that he had been in with Damani for some time at this point, also started reciving attention with the "Jackin' 4 DJ's" series they were putting out and soon recruited a third member, Soopafly. The buzz grew stronger, the music kept getting fresher and before anyone knew what was happening the group was working on their debut album, made an appearance on Snoop Dogg's "The Blue Carpet Treatment" and Damani inked a deal with Sony Records. Not bad for a year's work!

While Damani and the Westurn Union as a collective continue work on their debut albums, Bad Lucc also wants to ensure 2007 is the year of his first solo outing. Since the turn of the year he has had his head down grinding out hits for his release which, although not yet titled, will be out after the Westurn Union album in the summer.

The first track we have is a THX produced banger that sees Bad Lucc getting real serious for a moment on the issues that are really effecting his life; "I cant really hit the streets cause i aint risking it all, i don't wanna say oh sh-t but there's chickens involved, i gotta take life slow, that was passing me by, too weak to hold my head, too much of a man to cry, on the comp all day, myspace and the blogs, i would love to get out, no money no cars, bills popping up and i ain't made no moves, i feel sick, shit stunna must've took my groove, i could fall down through it, but that ain't my style i just conjour up a way to keep making these smiles."

The lyrics don't get the angst he creates with his voice as he delivers these heatfelt verses and when they align with the killer hook by B.J. The Chicago Kid you really get the truth he is trying to get across.

Bad Lucc - Real Sh-t (Feat. B.J. The Chicago Kid) (Produced by THX)

On the second cut Bad Lucc enlists Westurn Union partner in rhyme Damani and fellow Watts native Halla [see our On The Come Up article] for a track called "Gangstas." This high tempo, heavy bass production is by none other than Swiff D, who laced the acclaimed Pacific Division track "Women Problems" that we dropped last year, all the MC's on this track match the hard hitting beat with equally vicious lyrics.

When asked about the track Bad Lucc told Dubcnn; "This one is just about how in Cali, we dont need a reason to do sh-t. We just go. Whether it's shooting, fighting, whatever. We dont need a reason to do that sh-t. We from Killa Cali. Its all green light. This is more war than peace, ya dig!"

Bad Lucc - Gangstas (Feat. Damani & Halla) (Produced by Swiff D)

We guarantee that if your a fan of Lucc already then he has not dissapointed again with this new music and those of you new to the talent then this is sure to turn your attention and make you a believer! Stay tuned to dubcnn for the latest on Bad Lucc's debut, Damani's album and the Westurn Union project. In the meantime head over to Bad Lucc's MySpace page for more information, images and audio.

news "Okay" Guerilla Black Is Back With New Album - March 2, 2007 By : Rud

Emerging to the mainstream in 2004 was Chicago born, Compton raised Guerilla Black. His album "Guerilla City" received a mixed response due to many listener's problem with him sounding like the late Notorious BIG however none could dispute the then Virgin Records signee's choice of production and guests on the album.

With credits that included Red Spyda, Mario Winans, Jazze Pha, Rodney Jenkins, Rick Rock and Fred Wreck and appearances from Nate Dogg, Mario Winans, Beenie Man and Brooke Valentine the album did ensure attention however in the two and a half years since its release Guerilla Black has remained relatively silent, save last years "400 Shotz The Funeral" track that, im similar style to The Games iconic "300 Bars," took aim towards an array people he had issues with.

Since then Guerilla Black has been hard at work on his latest album, said to be titled, "God Bless The Child" and with this in mind has recently released his first track from the project "Okay" which features Hot Dollar, an artist currently riding a wave of success with his hit single "2 Step." We have the new record below where he talks about the hatred he has received and announces his reemergence - those who love name dropping and gonna dig this track.

Guerilla Black - Okay (Feat. Hot Dollar)

Enjoy the new music and stay tuned for the latest on Guerilla Black and his upcoming album right here on dubcnn - in fact we can also reveal he recently shot a video to another track from the album that you can expect to see and hear soon.
