20 Years ago he said it would never happen again, but yesterday Bob Geldof announced that history was set to repeat itself, on an even bigger scale. Live 8 will be staged around the world at 5 locations; London’s Hyde Park, Philadelphia’s Museum of Art, Berlin – near Brandenberg Gate, Paris and Rome’s Circus Maximus. On July 2nd London’s Hyde Park will play stage to artists and bands including Coldplay, Elton John, Madonna, Robbie Williams, U2, Sir Paul McCartney and Big Snoop Dogg. Hopefully dubcnn will hear off Snoop regarding this announcement and find out his thoughts and feelings at being asked to participate.
Unlike the original Live Aid in 1985, it’s not a charity event, but aims to draw attention to world poverty. It’s being called Live 8 because the world’s richest countries are meeting at the G8 summit a week later. Bob Geldof said of Live 8: “Charity will never really solve problems. It is time for justice – and 20 years after Live Aid, people now demand it of these eight men. The G8 leaders have it within their power to alter history.”
At Philadelphia’s Museum of Art artists such as Will Smith, Bon Jovi, Jay-Z, P Diddy, Stevie Wonder and 50 Cent will offer their support to the cause. Lauryn Hill will be among the appearences in Berlin while Craig David and Jamiroquai will feature in Paris. Faith Hill is said to be appearing at the venue in Rome.
This is a call to all fans of music and those with a desire to aid the ceasing of world poverty. Make a stand, show support and try to get to these concerts, if you can’t then join millions of others all over the world in watching from your homes. Live Aid was a remarkable event in 1985, lets show world leaders that we want change and show the poor and oppressed that we care enough to make a stand.
