Westcoast female MC’s are hard to come by, however there are plenty out there. The most well known and to many the greatest female to ever grace the MIC is The Lady Of Rage formally a Death Row recording artist. More recently Diamonique has been representing the I.E. and the coast with her mixtapes, album and shows.
Today dubcnn, as we are famed for doing, want to introduce a new talent who wishes to edge into the spotlight and into your attentions as a female force in a male dominated Hip-Hop industry.
The name of the artist in question; Fate Williams. Fate itself means an event, or course of events, that will inevitably happen in the future – could this be a sign of things to come? Well Fate believes so and is working hard to make that dream a reality. Raised in Watts she, although still only young, has already been signed to a major label some time ago where she had the opportunity to work with artists including Snoop Dogg and Juelz Santana. Having decided that she wished to finish college before actively pursuing a career in the music industry, Hip-Hop took a back seat until she completed her studies. Now she has a Bachelor’s Degree in one hand and a pen and pad in the other she is ready, once again, to tackle the music industry.
As with many aspiring artists she intends to make some noise with her debut mixtape entitled “Best Kept Secret” which features the street single “Gimme My Mic” which discusses Fate Williams’ off and now on again relationship with the microphone. The record sees Fate laying rhymes over an instrumental that will be familiar to many; the Easy Mo Bee beat for The Notorious B.I.G.メs “Gimme the Loot.” With Biggie in mind Fate Williams informed us that in 1997 she had been introduced to The Notorious B.I.G. at a Vibe party. When Fate informed B.I.G. that she was an aspiring rap artist he agreed to meet with Fate and her brother the following day; tragically as we now know this was the event that B.I.G. was killed immediately after. Fate still possesses a picture taken with B.I.G. shortly before the Vibe party ended; now one of the last photos of him alive.
Since “Gimme My Mic” was recorded Fate has been working hard and has put together a new single with the hitmaker Dem Jointz called “Two Loverz” which catalogues exactly that, being with two lovers at once; the chorus has the soulful sample of Mary Wells’ classic song of the same title. Both tracks mentioned we have available below as well as another mixtape track entitled; “The Chase”
