Born and raised in South Central Los Angeles, Baldy exploded on to the hip hop scene in the early 90メs when he connected with cross-town rivals モNew Breed of Hustlersヤ of Riverside, California. There he began producing for Mobstyle Records connecting with childhood friend and platinum producer Meech Wells.
In the words of Baldy, モMe and Meech were always cool, we lived in the same neighborhood and knew each other, but we never actually worked together until Mobstyle. They had their own commercial studio and I was able to hone my production skills and learn some tricks of the trade from himヤ.
Baldy later moved to Vancouver to mix down his debut solo album モ9991ヤ and ended up opening his own independent record company, Hard Tymez Records. After receiving radio and sales success with a string of 5 albums, the label came to a halt for personal reasons.
Baldy then returned to LA, where he reunited with Wells who was working on numerous other projects including Wellsメ first solo album モThe Cureヤ.
モMeech was working on his record and he asked if I wanted in; there was no questionヤ claims Baldy. モHe was workinメ with The Game, Freeway, Bad Azz, Kokane, Drastik, Rob Dog and others so it was phat.ヤ
Meech signed Baldy as a producer to his production company モIn a Zoneヤ. And in his spare time while working with Meech, Baldy began work on his new solo album モOvertimeヤ, which Meech Wells subsequently executive produced along with Mr Cas from New Breed of Hustlas.
Baldy then returned to Vancouver to put the finishing touches on his album and hook up with some more artists. With tight production and a definite West Coast feel モOvertimeヤ has it all; the personal songs, the conscious songs, the club bangers, and the smoke songs.
