After re-christening himself as “The Third Coming Of Funk” – a title he deserves thanks to his abilty to make everything he touches exactly that – XL Middleton is finally back with his latest offering, a 26 track release entitled “The Hedonistic Mixtape.”
XL has linked up with DJ Age to mix “The Hedonistic Mixtape” and we spoke to XL just before the release to find out about the project; “People ask me all the time what I mean by ‘Hedonistic’. Listen, it’s just a more complicated way of saying, this is some party music I’m giving you.”
The mixtape is jam packed with exactly what you’d expect; funked-out basslines and rich chord arrangements! Yet “The Hedonistic Mixtape” is topped off with a whole lot of the unexpected.
Expect to see him in his comfort zone on “Let It Get Into You,” where he twists Tom Browne’s “Funkin’ For Jamaica” into another Cali anthem – yet on “The Medicine” he takes it in another direction, sprinkling his signature sound with some reggae influence.
