Sometimes a release lands in the Dubcnn inbox accompanied by an email that meets many of my criteria for a potential feature – some of which mirror those that HipHopDX’s own Mike Trampe recently wrote in a great piece on NewIndustryTips [check it via this weeks Loose Links].
The email was respectful, specific to dubcnn and fundamentally containted great music – artists take note! With that said let me introduce you to Yonkers representer Brandon “Chance” Harris-Little, a man whom only three years ago as a 20-year-old suffered a mysterious “stroke” that left him unconscious and in critical condition for 3 days.
Over the weeks that followed Chance took time to reflect on situations in his past. “I started thinking about how many close calls I’ve had and how many other people in similar situations didn’t get through them; and I realized it had to be a reason I was still here and that I wasn’t gonna keep getting these 2nd chances.”
From then on Chance threw himself fully into music, going on to release 3 solo mixtapes “Tell A Friend,” “The Misadventures of George Kush” and “Daddy’s Home” and appearing on mixtapes from popular DJ’s including Tapemasters Inc., DJ L-Gee, DJ Bedz, DJ Mino & DJ Trigga.
Aside from being just an artist Chance also ensured he had a hand in the industry itself by forming Crack Distributors Radio – which has become one of the most popular and influential webshows in urban music – as well as working as a rumors assistant for AllHipHop.com.
He has just recently released his “LOVE Chance EP” – the first in a trilogy of projects he plans to deliver in 2011 – “The LOVE Drug” and “Letters From A LOVEr” are to be the next in the sequence.
We spoke to Chance to ask about the planned trilogy; “If the “LOVE Trilogy” were an addiction, “LOVE Chance” would be the first hit. The first time you get high, the first time you have sex, the first time you hit a lick. With this project I wanted to focus on the lighter side of living life fast, the side that gets you hooked. My next release “The LOVE Drug” would be when that addiction goes from being something you WANT to something you NEED. When the passion becomes obsession and you lose control. The final EP of the trilogy, “Letters From A LOVEr” would be rehab. When you can look back with a clear head and understand what that addiction did to you and regain control of your future while evolving from the experience,” he explained.
