Both have similar problemsThe difference is Missionary doesn't make your ears bleed and you can at least hear the drums having more weight than Compton
I like both albums but like others said they both have their flaws and Dre's voice on Compton put's me off, sounds so forced like he's constipated.Snoop sounds really good on Missionary and to me the album is more cohesive where Compton sounds messy and probably would have benefited from cutting the track list down.Snoops album could have used more DPG/Death Row features and Dre's album would have been better without King Mez, Justus and Dem Jointz.Compton starts off really bad and chaotic with Talk About It where Missionary slides straight into a smooth track with Shangri-La.Both albums have some greats tracks but if I have to choose one for me it's Missionary.
naah .. the drums bang harder on compton .. and the bass isn't super thin and underwhelming like it is on missionary could be your system and how u got your settings.. generally speaking, the beats on missionary sound way smaller the main issue with compton is that i felt the vocals coulda used a little more de-esser ... but i thought that was on purpose to keep the lyrics sharp ala stadium music
I'm far from the only one who had this problem tho, it's been one of the main criticism since day oneAnd I tried to play it on many different systems... everything sounds so sharp and make your ears hurt, the drums and bass are basically nonexistent... and again, MANY people had that same issue which has never happened with any of Dre's music so I guess it wasn't just me and my systemsThe first time I was playing it I thought my headphones were broken so I played some other songs and they sounded completely fineEven tho I don't like outta da blue, at least you can totally feel and hear the BOOM BOOM BOOM it makes when the songs starts, it has more weight than on any song on Compton. The problem with missionary is that it's way too overproduced like most of Dre's modern music, but I don't recall having a problem with the way drums and bass sound
Dre needs to stop with the high pitched Kendrick flow where he goes fast/slow every verse. Bring back the deeper voice and the more deliberate flow from Chronic and Chronic 2001. Dunno what happened to him that changed his voice so much but his rapping has been terrible ever since.
Compton is a very big, brash ambitious album that is like a compilation and has a lot going on. One thing it's not is boring, and there's certainly some gold on there like All On Me, Talking to my Diary, Loose Cannons and the intro (Dr. Dre always does great intros for his albums). But in a way that's the thing that grates the most - it's so loud and in your face and hyped up that it barely leaves you time to draw breath and process the album. There's none of that laid-back gangsta rap that Dre had on his previous albums, and the biggest gripe like others have said is Dre's forced voice and flow clearly influenced by hanging with Kendrick Lamar too often.I remember taking a dedicated trip to go pick up Compton and listening to it on the way home I really didn't know what to make of it, sonically it was, and is amazing, but getting finished listening to it on that first day I was somewhat underwhelmed and disappointed that it didn't sound how I wanted and expected it to sound. I think like others have said, if this was someone else's album we would be raving about it still but naturally we hold Dr. Dre to higher standards when it comes to his music. But I still revisit the album here and there and enjoy it when I do.With Missionary, I would say it's more cohesive than Compton and Snoop sounds great on it, but with it billed as a successor to Doggystyle, I was honestly expecting a bit more gangsta shit and traditional west-coast sounding Dre beats and legacy Death Row/N.W.A family-tree guests on the album than we got. But in the end we got a more mature-sounding Snoop album (which I should have seen coming to be honest) but one which lacked the excitement and bounce of some of Snoop and Dre's previous work together.
if Compton was someone else's album we would be raving about it still
