The birds are chirping and the gloves are popping and it’s the sounds of another beautiful spring is here!!
For Royals fans what is more exciting than actually being able to legitimately believe in your team! We are a playoff team. We won a freaking playoff game in New York against the Yankees last Fall! The Royals are legit.
Sure… it could all end up being that last year was a fluke. But I’m gonna enjoy this Spring and keep enjoying till the Royals go 5 under .500. As long as they stay in striking distance it’s going to be a fun year. We have some really great players…
Great
Bobby Wit - 2025 MVP
Cole Ragans - 2025 CY Young
Seth Lugo - All Star 2024
Michael Wacha - da man 👨!!
Vinny Paz - RBI machine
Sal Perez - future Hall of Famer
Erceq — bad ass closer
That’s enough to carry us to a good season

yeah the Royals are stacked....they look like legit World Series contenders...I wouldn't be afraid of the Yankees this year though, they look like they will take a step back without Soto
I think my Mets are legit too but I'm worried about our pitching staff and of course the Dodgers

anything can happen in the playoffs but they are so deep that even if half the team gets injured they got capable bench players to take over

Yo.. Higheyecue and other MLB fans at the forum, how was your opening day? Here's the notes from KC:
- Opening Day loss to Royals biggest rival and division champ Cleveland Indians at home in extra innings.
- Royals lose because our shittiest player, Kyle Isabel, gets himself caught in a run-down late in the game base running error.
- Royals struggle to generate any offense, just like last year. Nearly all the Royals offense is generated from the 2 and 3 hole which is Witt and Vinnie Paz. Triple AAA level player Kyle Isabel gets himself caught in a run down ending our potential big inning with Witt coming to the plate and Vinnie Paz on Deck.
- Bobby Witt still doesn't look like the MVP Bobby Witt from last year. He got hit by a pitch late in the season, and he hasn't really been the same since.
- The best news of the day was Vinnie Paz. Witt is the Michael Jordan of the Royals, but Vinnie is Scottie Pippen. Vinnie got injured at the end of last year, and there were a lot of questions about whether or not he would make a successful return. He provided ALL the offense for the Royals on Opening Day, hitting a 3 run homer and a double in 9th inning that led to the game tying score.
I should be mad because the Royals lost, but we went toe to toe with the division champs, and Vinnie Paz had a great day, so it was still fun.
-
the Mets didn't score up until the 9th inning when they got a measly sac fly
Soto came up with 2 runners on with the Mets down 3-1 in the 9th and struck out pretty badly on a 3-2 pitch

Royals will be ok
I think they will hit enough with that pitching staff
the postseason is where they really have an advantage with Ragans, Wacha and of course the ex-Met legend Lugo

Mets went down with Soto at the plate. At least they went down with their best guy at the dish and a chance to tie or win. Got to tip the cap and move on to the next 161.

Royals traded away a legit starter Brady Singer in the offseason for this average at best leadoff hitter Jonathon India. They were so desperate to have a guy hit leadoff before Witt that they traded away a proven starter. Plus, whether or not our top guys in the rotation can duplicate last years success remains to be seen. They still got to go out and do it. Hope you are right.

yeah.. baseball's so up and down. It's hard not to get excited about opening day, then they always have the off day the day after so if your team loses you're like, "we suck, we will never win and go 0-162." Then, game two Soto hits a homerun and all is well.
Same happened in KC I spent two days talking shit on the Jonathon India trade to anybody that would listen saying the guy can't hit the broad side of the barn. Game two he comes and gets hits in his first two at bats, a walk, and scores two runs, just like a prototypical lead-off hitter is supposed to do. Exactly what we wanted in the trade.

yeah you're absolutely right
India is a hard nosed player, I remember him always doing good against the Mets...the only thing he is a little injury prone if he can stay healthy he will get on base a lot for you guys

Aren’t the A’s just tanking again on purpose? It’s funny how like half the teams in MLB these days are trying to tank so really for a team like the Royals that’s actually trying to compete we don’t even have to be that good. Because most of the league isn’t even trying.

the question is why are they tanking?
the MLB draft is much more of a wildcard than the NBA or NFL draft
unless there is a sure thing prospect coming out of college like a Paul Skenes you are taking your chances with a kid coming out of high school who might not amount to anything

Thank God the Royals have Bobby Witt and aren’t tanking anymore. The theory goes that they supposedly have a 5 year window now to try to win the championship because that’s the length of Bobby Witt’s contract.
Still though, the local Sports Talk show was already clamoring to start looking at possible trading away Seth Lugo just because the Royals had a rough road trip last week. We since swept the Rockies and are back in it. Latest news and notes on the Royals:
—Witt is back to playing MVP caliber baseball again since slumping at the end of the year and in last years playoffs
—Vinnie Paz is still struggling since his injury at the end of last season but is managing to lead the team in RBI’s
—Salvy finally got it going turning his season around with a great hitting performance against the leagues worst pitching Colorado Rockies
—Royals have worst outfield in baseball ⚾️ they finally gave up and started sending guys down to give their Triple AAA performers a chance. And it’s worked out so far, Drew Waters has been a big improvement (called up) over MJ Melendez (sent down)
—Kris Bubic and Mikel Garcia are the surprising stars of the Royals this year. Both hugely talented players who have underperformed in the past now reaching their potential !!
Royals are hanging in there. That’s all that’s needed this early in the season.

But homie I’m really excited about what Pete Alonso and Francisco Lendour have done so far this year. I’m a big fan of Moneyball, I love the movie and am reading the book, and it’s the reason I got back into baseball in 2007 after giving up on the sport after I quit playing in 98’
(I can’t imagine now, looking back as a 43 year old and thinking of my Coach calling up in the spring to ask me if I was on board for the summer and telling him “no”—it reminds me of that Kevin Costner line in Field of Dreams where he says, “what kind of American boy would deny his father for a game of catch”. Makes it worse that that coach gave me my first job as an umpire and was a great guy, who believed in me as a player, and died of a heart attack a year later)
Sorry, got off track there but that’s why we love baseball, it’s like the eternal fountain of youth makes us feel like kids again..
But back to the subject at hand, I also like Sean Manea and Luis Savvarino on the pitching side because they are also undervalued guys that the Mets were able to make use of because the Mets are a Sabermetrics organization.
So I’m rooting for you guys (go Mets!). The offense will be alright with Alonso, Lendour, and Soto

yeah I like what I see so far...the thing is we are doing it with no name pitchers who have to go up against Glasnow, Yamamoto, Sasaki and possibly Ohtani in the playoffs...its a pretty tall order
but as far as the division I think its ours to lose...I don't think the Phillies or Braves have got what it takes
-

Yeah I agree homie, I got the Mets pegged as a team that can go deep in the playoffs but not to the World Series. But even that makes for a fun year because the beauty of baseball is the 162 games and when you got a team that’s competing day in and day out for 162 that makes for a great summer.
There’s also always the trade deadline. The Mets could fill those holes in a big way once teams are out of it and ready to cut bait. In 2015 when the Royals won the World Series can you imagine we got Ben Zobrist and Johnny Ceuto! I mean you could argue we got our best hitter and our best pitcher at the trade deadline. So that dramatically transforms a team it’s almost not even fair—we had Omar Infante at 2nd base at the Mendoza line hitting like .200 and then suddenly overnight we replace him at second with Ben Zobrist. Then Cueto jumps right into the #1 spot in the rotation and the guys girating and twisting and turning in the middle of his throwing motion and pitching gems 💎 in big games.
So there’s always the trade deadline to put the Mets over

Man I still have nightmares about that 2015 series. I find solace in the fact that the Royals were the better team being there the year before against the Giants. And we had such a weird year, we started off the 1st half with a pretty bad record before the trade deadline acquiring Yoenis Cespedes. So you are right about that, hopefully we can acquire some stud pitcher that becomes available because his team is out of the race
back to that 2015 team the Royals had the uncanny skill of putting the bat on the ball despite us having some of the hardest throwing starting pitchers in the game. That game 2 that Cueto pitched against us we had our best pitcher that year Jacob Degrom and he could not solve Escobar, Hosmer, Moustakas etc. I knew after going down 0-2 it was pretty much a wrap for us

Yeah, our hitters never struck out and always put a bat to ball. I remember Yornis Cespedes was a big trade for you but without looking it up and off the top of my head I thought they gave up something good for him, and there was also a question about his D like he was fumbling around in the outfield quite a bit.
I can’t believe I put off reading Money Ball until now. I’ve always been a fan of it but I thought listening to a couple Sabermetrics Sportstalk guys and analysts was enough. Boy was I wrong.
This book is fascinating. Have you ever checked it out. It’s filled with nuggets like this: Documenting errors comes from the days of the civil war when they played in unmowed grass and with a lopsided ball. A guy makes a great attempt at a ball and misses he gets an error, and another guy is out of position and lollygags and doesn’t get an error cause he never got close to a ball. Likewise, a shortstop makes a diving grab and he’s a hero while another shortstop simply moves a step or two before the ball hard hit gets to him and nobody even sees it, he just feilds it cleanly and nobody is the wiser.
I asked chatgpt who is the best Sabermetrics team it said the Mets. You guys just became my second favorite team.

yeah we gave up a starting pitcher who had promise named Michael Fulmer. He had a couple of good years before succumbing to arm problems. Last I heard he was with another team trying to hang on as a reliever
I really need to read that book. Its funny Billy Beane was a prospect for us back in the 80's coming up through the system. He never had a big career as a player but the rest is history of course

Yeah but turns out it was really this guy Bill James that had invented all this stuff decades earlier
And if you search Billy Beane you might come up with a different Billy Bean the first gay baseball player to come out the closet around the same era, kind of confusing.
But yes, I think the actual Billy Bean was even like drafted and projected ahead of Strawberry with the Mets. It details that in the book but the best part was the Bill James chapter.

Mets have been struggling the last week...they should be ok though
yeah the Royals are the class of that division...now that they are clicking I would like to see them sweep the Yankees next month lol
-
The Royals have been solid lately and the Tigers I feel like are better this year too
Dodgers lost yesterday and fucked all my bets up
Yankees seem to have taken a step back even though it’s early.
SF is the surprise. I don’t think anyone expected them to be this good

Royals still aren't there yet. We aren't ready to play with the big boys of New York. It's the same story as last year. Getting fat against the White Sox and weaker opponents and then once we get closer to the trade dead line and teams start tanking, well then the Royals will go on yet another run because they will be among the 12 or so teams that is actually trying to compete.
I'm happy with that though. Let's just get to to the playoffs again and see what happens. The Yankees are a superior team, but a couple breaks the other way and the Royals could've topped them and been in the ALCS. Even just winning one game against them last year was like a dream. Can you imagine? BOB COSTAS was calling a Royals Game against the NEW YORK YANKEES to go to the ALCS last year. This is after we had lost over 100 games the previous season. Who would've imagined we'd be sparring toe to toe with the Yankees and Bob at the call. To put that in perspective, BOB COSTAS CALLED THE 1985 WORLD SERIES WHEN GEORGE BRETT WAS THE BEST PLAYER IN BASEBALL AND THE ROYALS WON THEIR FIRST WORLD SERIES. The Royals in the ALCS in many of those George Brett was the Yankees and Bob at the call.
There are some crazy people that have this win it all or nothing attitude. Like, they want the Royals to trade away guys because they know deep down we just aren't there yet as far as topping the Yankees and getting to the World Series. I hate that attitude. Thank God, our owners attitude is to just play .500 baseball and try to make the playoffs and be competitive for every year of Bobby Witt's contract. That's good enough for me.
This is life as a Royals fan, it might be hard for you big market guys to relate.

that holds true for the Yankees but we as Met fans are not so different than you...Yes we are in the largest market but until Steve Cohen bought the team around 5 years ago we weren't operating like one...the last time we won a World Series I was almost 5...that was in 1986 so I only remember highlights...since then we have been to the World Series twice, in 2000 against the Yankees and in 2015 against the Royals... we've had a winning record maybe 4 years out of the 9 since then all with different managers each time

It's okay at this point.
It's the same as last year. We beat up on the bad teams and lose to the good teams. We still made it to the playoffs and won and divisional round game in New York on the doorstep of the ALCS.
You don't actually have to be that good in MLB. Half the teams aren't even competing for anything, they actually want to lose for low draft picks and want to trade away guys in the last year of the their contracts for prospects. Just wait till we get closer to the trade deadline you will see those teams go from bad to worse, making it easier for teams like the Royals to make a playoff push.

Royals update
--We just won a razor thin—thriller against the Giants in San Francisco!! 8)
--Royals actually have the 3rd most wins in the American League and would be in the playoffs if they started today.
--They will have to make a move for a bat at some point this season. The move could come internally, they have THE NEXT BIG THING mark my words, Jack Cagilione was MASHING all Spring and in DoubleAA, and yesterday they moved him up to TripleAAA. They have green lit the guy and many sportswriters think he will join the Major League Club after the All Star Break. He's only 19 years old! Hits for Power and Average. He's the next Albert Pujos!
--The emergence of Kris Bubic. Royals had two Cy Young candidates on the rotation last year—Lugo and Ragans, but Kris Bubic has been even better than Lugo and Ragans this year. He's been the best pitcher on the staff. Had a no hit bid going against the Giants yesterday that was ruined by an official score keeper ruling an hit instead of an error on an obvious error.

yeah, those big contracts in baseball can be scary. I can't believe it man... 765,000,000 Million just sounds insane. I mean, how far away are we from the first billion dollar contract in sports. And there is still that running joke about the Mets continuing to pay Bobby Bonilla's contract.
...Our only big contract is Bobby Witt at 300 million and then in Football Pat Mahomes is at 500,000

yeah Bobby Witts deal is actually a bargain when you think about it...I think he is a couple of years younger than Soto and its for less years as well
Mahomes's contract may also be the way the QB market is trending in the NFL

Yes, exactly. Both Witt and Mahomes are gonna end up being steals and theft of 100’s of millions by the time they are thru !!
It’s because of big market vs small market. KC had to be absolutely sure before they pulled the trigger on those guys but New York can afford to make a mistake on Soto and still survive to see another day.
It’s why Billy Beane stayed in Oakland at the end of the movie MoneyBall because he wanted to be in Oakland where they were forced to make smart decisions.

I just checked homie, and Soto still has an OPS of .816
The Sabermetrics guys say anything above .700 is good and anything below .700 is bad. .700 is Replacement Level or otherwise average—not exactly sure I have to ask ChatGPT if it’s average or replacement or if they mean the same thing, lol, I’ll get back to you.
But anyway, .814 for Soto is pretty much around Bobby Witt territory so though the average is down a bit I think you’re still okay for now I wouldn’t worry, but you know your guy better than I do

But anyway, .814 for Soto is pretty much around Bobby Witt territory so though the average is down a bit I think you’re still okay for now I wouldn’t worry, but you know your guy better than I do
Okay so ChatGPT says .700 is average MLB player so .814 for Soto is still top baller ⚾️ wit a gold flee collar status 😎
(And then Replacement level is down to .650 which means the guy could be swapped out for someone down in TripleAAA or off the bench)
-
Soto at .814
Witt at .880
Mikael Garcia breakout year for Royals at .880
Barry Bonds was at over .1000 some seasons
So there is still reason to expect Soto can perform at an even higher level but it’s still okay for now

yeah our expectations are through the roof for Soto
he had an OPS of .989 last year with the Yankees and .945 for his career
I will say even though he hasn't hit for average and his power is down he still gets on base at a clip of .374 which isn't that far off his career mark of .414

Nice test for Kershaw today let’s see if he can get through this stacked Mets line up without giving up a bunch of runs

its hard to tell in just 2 innings but he looked pretty good to me
-
Yeah exactly. That was a sick ass game. Rain delay extra innings and all. Poor NY fanbase getting it from all angles right now lol
-
good bounce back by the Mets after losing that tough game Friday 8)
the Dodgers right now are at half strength though, Snell and Glasnow will probably be back in the next couple of months and Ohtani was looking pretty filthy throwing to batters yesterday
We need to make some moves pitching wise at the deadline to compete

West Coast L.A. Dodgers - Was listening to baseball insider Buster Onley today and he says the Dodgers pictching staff has suffered injuries and is in a bad state now.
Eastcoast New York Mets - Also, Soto is started to get some negative press these days, the complaints are getting louder about the contract being too much money for a guy they are saying is a bit lazy.
Midwest - The big news in KC is the hype around this 22 year old TripleAAA prospect Jac Caglionone, remember the name because this just hit 5 homeruns in 4 games! And these are monster moon shots. They are saying he will be the next big thing. It's only his first season in the minors so that's why he hasn't already been called up, but he's likely to get the call mid-June.

the Soto stuff is getting crazy...some of it is just speculation that he regrets coming to the Mets and he wishes he was still on the Yankees...I'm sure one thing he misses is hitting in front of Judge...but just watching with the naked eye his swing looks terrible and its producing a lot of weak contact the last couple of weeks...he does have an opt out in his contract which he can exercise in 5 years but why would he he is pretty much set for life with 15 years and 765 million

It’s Siavash and Sccit of Labcabin Records vs. HighEyeCue my 1998 Soul Brother… this is a tough one I’ll have to break it down Scientifically…
Best Pitching - Mets
Best Player - Dodgers
Best Franchise - well I’m jealous of bother because they have big market money, so — Push
Best Uniforms — Push
Player I don’t like? Soto - Advantage Dodgers
Player I do like? Ohtani, but only cause he plays two ways and he stopped doing that, so.. PUSH
Best History - Kirk Gibson Moment — Dodgers, but losing 2015 WS — Mets, so… PUSH
Best Music - Dodgers brought out Ice Cube, NY brought out Fat Joe — Advantage Dodgers
Final outcome — Split Series

I like this analysis lol. Ohtani has already started pitching in practice. He should be back after all star break. And if dodgers had all their pitchers healthy I think advantage on pitching goes to dodgers.

Diaz blew his first save of the season last night...luckily we came back and won

yeah if the Dodgers pitching staff is at full strength its not even close...The Mets have pitchers who have done it with smoke and mirrors...only thing they can do to match up is hopefully that the Rangers fall completely out and they reacquire DeGrom at the deadline...and then they would still need to acquire another starter to go with him and Senga and Manaea as a 4th option

The FUTURE is now... Ladies and Gentlemen, I present to you... Pat Mahomes———I mean Jac Caglionone. (He's not the savior or the second coming but his initials are J.C.)
He debuts tonight in Missouri, but the other side of Missouri. Nellyville, St. Louis. How many homeruns will he hit tonight in his debut?

Just as I predicted…
…but so far I was wrong about Cags. He’s like 1 for 13 to start with a double and RBI. The good news though is the offense is scoring again and we won a tough series in St Louis. So maybe he “presence” had an affect 🤷♂️

RIP 2025 MLB Season
Well it’s been fun. You big city kids enjoy, us small market teams will be bowing out now but it was fun pretending we could play with ya’ll the last year in half. KC is headed back to obscurity, and I guess it was just a lucky year and a quarter, but fun anyway.
Turns out young Jac Cag wasn’t coming up from TripleAAA to save the Royals season he was actually coming up to END the Royals season. At the time he was brought up we were just one game out of the playoffs and been competitive and above .500 all year. This guy starts out like 1 for 13 and he’s hitting at the Mendoza line with no pop up till now—and cursed the team in other ways with our #1 starter Ragans having a significant injury.
Royals can’t beat the Athletics, got swept by the Yanks, 5 game losing streak, and anyway, yall have a nice finish to the year with your big city dollars.

Infinite I was wondering how you watch games in Indonesia?

Infinite I was wondering how you watch games in Indonesia?
Ahh come on homie Indonesia was way back in 2014-15. I’m in the Arab Gulf. I pay something like $100-200 a year for the MLB and NFL packages online, the NFL one is thru DaZone and MLB is through the MLB at bat at so phone and laptop games on demand, live, archived games, etc
-
Okay fine, I’m back in.
Royals won 2 games against the Rangers and are 2 out of the wild card so I’m back in. Veteran life-time Royal Salvador Perez is finally heating up, Mikael Garcia is having a breakout year he’s at like .320 batting average and near .900 OPS for a guy that can play all positions on defense, and has speed and pop.
Jac Cags still continues to be a bust which has been the biggest dissapointment of the year, but on the bright side Royals have had 3 break-out guys this year Garcia, Kris Bubic, and Noah Cameron all 3 went from barely making the starting lineup to being stars ✨
…I checked in with your Dodgers for the Labcabin folks—it looks like in spite of injury they still keep winning cause they got Ohtani and Freeman and Ohtani is pitching again so those two-way Red Sox Babe Ruth, Deion, Bo, who’s that guy for the Colorado Buffaloes Travis Hunter? Those guys are always exciting that can do multiple things at a professional level.
And that leads me to your daily dose of baseball nostalgia. 1989 what a beautiful year and beautiful year in baseball it was the height of the Oakland A’s Bash Brothers Canseco/McQuire era, and Bo Jackson was coming into his prime for the Royals along with Brett and Danny Tartubull, we made a run at the Yankees that year. My arch rival in sports friend/enemy from my second grade class used to tell me legendary stories about how Babe Ruth was also a pitcher when he played for the Boston Red Sox, it was my first year really getting deep into the sport knowing every player and the back of their baseball card and learning about legends like Babe Ruth

Yeah MLB price is about $150 here and then NFL is around $500. You got it way cheaper out there. Which Arab gulf country? Yemen?

Mets have lost 5 in a row and their division lead is down to 1 game

that's the ups and downs of baseball...your emotions can change from one day to the next
like I said its a long season and plenty of time for the Royals to secure a playoff spot...and great to see Seth Lugo who never got the chance to be a starter with us but is flourishing in that role now

damn nfl hella overpriced LOL

Yemen is not the Arab Gulf.
Come on homie, Yemen, is like a war-zone, I’d really be an enigma of I’d been spending all these years in Yemen. No offense or anything, but considering you are Persian and used to have a rap group named “Sand Niccaz”—you’ve not only not delved into much of the happenings in the region but I think you even have a subconscious block against that part of the world.
That’s not a diss, it’s not like I know everything about the State of Missouri or Arkansas cause my families from there, or cause my dad’s (legal and sperm donor both) grew up on the farm that I know everything about farming, I actually know nothing but fun fact — I visited both my legal Uncle (as a kid) and my sperm donor uncles (during Convid) farms in Arkansas and spent a day with them.
For some reason I prefer to just leave it at Arab Gulf, and see what people come up with. But really, in a general sense when people say “Khaleej” or “Arab Gulf” they aren’t really even talking about Yemen but more so like the OPEC oil rich G.C.C. (Gulf Cooperation Council) regions of the Gulf. So for example, like Arabs from the “Sham” or like in English Eastern Mediterranean/Levant region, which is regions like Palestine, Egypt, Syria, Lebanon might resent Arabs from the Gulf because they live easy oil rich lives. So no, it’s a pretty simple life where I live, not a poverty stricken, overly religious, war-zone like Yemen.
In fact the Arab Gulf is actually called the “Persian Gulf” historically and you are Persian—but though Iran shares the Persian Gulf Sea with these Arab Gulf Countries and also has oil—they are not part of the G.C.C because they speak Farsi, Shia, different ethnicity, different economy, recent and historical clashes, etc
-
Lol, I actually came to this thread just to say Cags (the rookie prospect) finally broke out and had 2 homers in one game.

Soto is actually doing OK. He is an on base machine even when he isn't hitting because he walks so he much. Lindor has went into a deep funk 0-19 currently and Alonso has cooled off big time. Plus the starting pitching which was our strength the first 2 months is beginning to show its true colors. They desperately need a legit ace at the top of the rotation because they don't really have one. Senga was that but he is out for at least a month with a hamstring.

Come on homie!!! All this and you still didn’t tell me. I guess I’ll continue the guessing game. My next guess would be Qatar and if not there then Oman because what else is left. Kuwait? They all seem equally bad places to be to me so yeah you’re right I’m definitely not interested in Arab cuntries

That’s why OPS is great cause it factors in walks. A lot of Sabermetrics guys say a walk is as great as a hit.
That’s a pretty rough go to make it without having an Ace. But the next big question is how are the #4 and #5 guys in the rotation. I mean if they are solid then I guess you are okay without an Ace.

Hey, you stole my line, I always say to you “come on homie”.
But anyway, you got it right now, it’s in the countries you mentioned. Interestingly enough, Techniec (not the rapper but the o.g from the forum) used to live in the country when he was a teenager. Which is kind of surprising because I’ve never met an Afghan there, but anyway Sccit says he’s still around over at the Coli but I couldn’t get added to the Coli I tried to sign up but no luck.
It’s more than not being interested in Arab countries homie, I’m not sure if you are even interested in your own (o.g) country, the region or your country (Iran)

Ok so we narrowed it down but you still not giving me a clear answer. I’m just going to assume Qatar. And of course I’m interested in Iran. I’ve been following what’s happening there pretty closely. Wishing for a quick exit for the disgusting Islamic regime and a free Iran so I can go back and take my family.

we finally broke out hitting 7 home runs last night 8)
our 4 and 5 guys are basically average pitchers who were pitching beyond their capability the first 2 months...we have one prospect who is in AA named Jonah Tong who people are comparing to Tim Lincecum so there's that

Yeah that’s problem with #5’s they can have a good month and then go in the tank. Sounds like they are in a rough patch but maybe they adjust soon, and I’m all for skipping a level if your guy is ready I’m double AA there have been several players who skipped AAA and had success right away.
But yeah it does sound like you got pitching problems, cause it sounds like you don’t have a clear top or bottom of the rotation.

Dodgers also look like they are getting their starters back just in time for the 2nd half

I think they are doing some 2015 ceremony during the Mets series. Having Cain, Davis, Gordon, Escobar, Moose, Hosmer and the whole gang back for a reunion
Okay so we don’t suck that bad but it just seems like if I say we are great they lose and if I say we suck we start winning again

I’m not on the Cags bus anymore. If he ends up being great I’ll have to take an L and call myself an dumbass. I’m not predicting him to be a bust but I’m not predicting him to be superstar anymore.
Yo Higheyecue, did you see how overmatched he was against Segma in the 3rd? Jac was totally outclassed and looked exactly like the amateur crybaby that he is!!!!
On the Royals broadcast we have Rex Hudler (who’s the nicest guy ever but terrible color man) and Rex actually made his first decent analysis of the year. Rex played in Japan and the MLB and he called it with all those fork balls and he said, “Jac, you gotta watch it coming out. If it looks like it’s coming out lower than belt high leave it alone it’s gonna be in the dirt, and he’s not givin Jac anything up”
And what does the rookie do? He strikes out on nothing but fork balls in the dirt.
Royals don’t deserve to win this game cause India is a pussy and Segma just out-classed Cags and KC and made us look Triple AAA
-
Higheyecue, I’m callin you out?? I’ve already fired off 4 legendary posts to spark the Mets Royals 3 game set and you MIA homie…
Come holla at ya boy don’t leave me hangin’ and swangin’ when we sposed to be bangin’ and swangin’
-
Our bullpen strikes again…Royals just tied the game

Ha I’m here…Wacha impressed me, he’s a different pitcher than he was with us that wasted Covid season
though it might be a combination of his pitching and our struggling hitting the last couple of games

I knew Wacha was with the Cards, and quite good with the Cards but I didn’t know he was with the Mets. He’s always been good with the Royals so I’m just finding out he didn’t do so well in NY?

Instant Reaction to Loss:
Well I felt we lost the game when India was too pussy to run home with his legs after the 3rd basemen stepped on his hand and then when Segma outclassed Cags — I gave up. So to see them fight back with Bobby Baseball ⚾️ I’m actually taking a moral victory from this one.
For your side homie, I was just really impressed with Segma. The hitting at the end off Estevez was impressive too because Estevez has been our closer this year and he’s an alpha so you gotta be big time if you wanna win off him and that’s what the Mets did.
Aside from India being a pussy, I just tip my cap to the better team. Props to HighEyeCue and his Mets.

yeah I don't know if I put much stock into Wacha with the Mets because he was only here that one Covid 60 game season...but he was pretty bad
yeah Senga is especially tough with runners on base, he really bears down...its a shame he had that little injury that caused him to miss about 3 or 4 starts or he would have qualified for the MLB ERA lead
we also lucked out in this series by not facing your 2 best starters this year, Met legned Seth Lugo and Bubic

Wacha's so consistent, I'm surprised he had a bad year with the Mets, he doesn't even have like brief periods where he slumps, he's like the same guy every month. We locked him up for like a 3 year extension as soon as we saw how good he was last year.
You're going to be impressed—all of our starters are good! Of course, you are right, Lugo and Bubic are the best, and I know Lugo's your guy, he used to be with the Mets. But all are good, so every game is winnable for the Royals just because of our pitching. Doesn't mean we will win, we will probably get swept, but pitching keeps us competitive.
(Last year, all we needed was our pitching and Bobby Baseball did the rest. In the summer months the guy just went on an insane tear where he basically accounted for nearly all of our runs and we got out to an insane lead in the wild card race and then his protection behind him Vinnie Paz got injured and Bobby was pedestrian for the end of the season)

yeah that Covid year was a joke anyway...waste of a season if you ask me
one thing about the Royals that hasn't changed in 10 years is that they put the ball in play...I remember our pitchers back then who were all young hard throwers having a hell of a time trying to strike anyone out...we really don't have anyone like that on this staff though
-
Game two was a dud. But, as I told you our pitching kept us in it. Tip the cap once more to Higheyecue and his Mets.

I like this kid you guys got Caglianone...I know he's struggling but him and Witt are going to be a lethal 1-2 combo in the years to come
as for the game Soto continues on a hot streak, he's finally putting up the numbers he's supposed to
-
good series Infinite 8)
you weren't lying about your pitching, it will keep you guys in the WC hunt all season...and we didn't even face your 2 best guys
hey what's up with Cole Raagans, still hurt? he looked like a CY Young pitcher when he faced us last year

Yeah ended up being a pretty series, save for one snoozer in the middle. I’m glad you caught that about our pitching. Noah Cameron is one of our 3 big breakout guys this year. Mikeal Garcia, Kris Bubic, and Noah Cameron were all 3 guys on the bubble coming into the year who have broke out this year. Cameron might get the Rookie of the Year.
(Fun fact, he’s a local guy from small town St. Joseph, Missouri which is where Eminem is from and where his Great Aunt Edna always lived who he raps about and lived with a lot growing up and they did some local news stories about her and it was really cute cause they interviewed this old lady in 99’ and she was like “oh I don’t know much about it , but he was always a’rapppin but nothin doin, but boy when he started doing that Slim Shady, welp, welp, that about got them.” ;D )
Sean Manea sure rings a bell. He actually won a World Series for us without ever actually playing for us. We drafted him and traded him for… wait for it… wait for it… it’s a name that’s gonna give you nightmares, a half season rent-a-player that destroyed your hopes and dreams in 2015 and then did the same thing with the Cubs the very next year getting a World Series MVP Ben Freaking Zobrist !!!!!
In my opinion—Manea—he’s like one of those slightly above average guys that can get overpaid in a big city like New York. He gave up the game to the bottom of our order and let a .94 guy Tolbert we only use for pinch running single and score the winning run off him.
I’m sure you’re happy though to have Manea back healthy and his arm looked good for most of his outing.
…As for Ragans he’s had nagging injuries his whole career including this one, some even thought he’d be out for the season this year but he got a second opinion and he’s gonna try to give it a go after the All Star Break but who knows. Not to mention, you know we also had Brady Singer (solid #3 starter for the Reds this year) but traded him for India? That just shows you how stacked the pitching is in Kansas City. That’s our winning formula, great pitching and then relying on Bobby Baseball on offense.
Can’t believe you guys got to our big dog Estevez not once but twice in the series—and with a pinch hitter! Estevez is in the All Star game this week and you got to him twice!

funny thing about Zobrist is that we were one of the teams interested to sign him after 2015...I think the holdup was the amount of years he wanted...if we did he might have been the difference since we ended up making the WC in 2016 but losing to San Francisco
-

That guy was phenomenal and even better in big games. For sure you guys should’ve just given him whatever he wanted because you would’ve won in 16’ with him.
I couldn’t believe the Royals were already returning ALCS champs in 15’, we started red hot and were in first place all year and then, and then….—and then at the trade deadline we got Johnny Cueto and Ben Freaking Zobrist!! Are you kidding me!?!
By the way, correction, I accidently said Cy Young for Noah Cameron—I meant rookie of the year.
-
Pete Alonso with a 3 run shot at the All Star Game...good stuff 8)
and the game ended in a swing-off...I like this rule for the All-Star game, its an exhibition anyway

we'll see how many games back they will be at the end of next week lol

Yeah, these next 6 games are big for a lot of teams because the trade deadline coming up. Are the Mets in the market to give up some prospects to help their post-season push?

they are not really willing to trade prospects in the minors, but are ready to trade one or more these are currently on the team
Luis Angel Acuna Jr
Brett Baty
Mark Vientos
Ronny Mauricio
of these 4 Vientos could probably bring the best return since he had a breakout last year with 27 HR...he's been terrible this year though with only 6

that's not gonna be enough to get them a piece that can really put them over
btw.. did you see this freaking rookie for the Athletics? 6 hits and 4 homeruns in one game

yeah they need to package a few players together to get what they need
I did see, first Athletics player to hit 4 in one game and a rookie no less...a crazy stat is theres 6 players who have played for the Mets who have hit 4 in one game...but never as a Met
Mike Cameron
Carlos Delgado
Gil Hodges
Wille Mays
Shawn Green
JD Martinez
-
Infinite congrats, you guys signed Lugo to a 2 year extension
that does take him off the board for us but I think we're looking more at bullpen and CF help than starting pitching right now

Higheyecue, since you are such a big baseball ⚾️ fan and the same age I think you remember how fun it was when we were kids and you first heard about great feats and big names. One of the big things I remembered hearing like a playground legend around 89’ my first year getting deep into it was:
“Babe Ruth once hit 3 homers in a game”
and in KC we had Bo Jackson then and it was “Bo hit 3 homers in a game once.”
But we thought these guys were superhuman. To see this little white guy that’s a rookie hit 4 for the A’s along with two more hits 6 for 6 is mind blowing.
-

Yeah it was bittersweet in KC. We finally won a series against our nemesis the Cleveland Indians (I still call them the Indians but officially Guardians), and we signed Lugo long term. And the same day came the news our All-Star starter Bubic is out with injury till possible next season.
We are stuck now with 45 year old Rich Hill as a starter. Bittersweet day in KC

I was too young to remember this in real time but that home run that Bo Jackson hit in the all-star game in 1989 sends chills to my spine whenever I see highlights of it...the fact that he could play in the NFL as a running back and also be an outfielder with the Royals and excelling at both is crazy...also that MNF run that he had that always get replayed when he hit the end zone and just kept running
-

Rich Hill...we signed him in that year after the COVID hoax when Jacob DeGrom went down after the All-Star break...he pitched decent enough for us but I was thinking at the time what are we doing with a 40 something year old starter lol
damn it sucks about Bubic...I guess he has a similar injury that Ragans has...you guys have a scrappy team though, you'll find a way to get through it

rich hill started is nasty work

That was the first year I got deep into it. What a great year 89’ was, Bash Brothers Canseco and McGuire, and Royals made a run at the A’s with the emergence of Danny Tartubul. Reds and skinny cokehead (buddy of Strawberry and Gooden) Eric Davis upset the A’s in the World Series.
Was the year Bo Jackson was part of back-to-back homeruns to start the All-Star game. It was 89 so you were probably 7, you might have been old enough. I was watching TV when it happened—it was one of those classic Bo Jackson moments I actually got to witness in real time. My first game I went to was also that year and I still remember we lost 7-1 and Bo had 3 deep fly outs.
In football he played for KC rival the Raiders.
Fun Fact: the Royals also drafted Deion and Dan Marino but weren’t able to sign them. Pat Mahomes also got drafted to MLB and owns a small percent of the Royals.
How could you miss 89’ homie? That was like the best year ever in baseball ⚾️.
(I missed 88’—and arguably the greatest moment in sports history the Kirk Gibson homer against the A’s in the bottom of the 9th. But I remember everything from 89’. Just like I missed everything of the Pistons back-to-back but know everything from the Bulls first championship run)

yeah I'm watching the game right now on YT trying to see if I remember any specifics about it
https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=g8SErfKgyFo
and that was the last year NBC had baseball, they acquired the NBA rights starting with the '90 season and the rest was history with that great Bulls run in the 90's

What was your first big year in MLB, how come you didn’t catch 89’? So I’m trying to remember, after the A’s—I know the next big thing was the rise of the Atlanta Braves which we had on TBS, Deion Sanders, David Justice. Did you catch the first year of that? That was some great baseball. The four aces:
Glavine
Smoltz
Avery
Later Maddox

I do remember the Braves years...the 1st World Series I truly remember well was the 1991 when the Braves lost in 7 to the Twins...I think Jack Morris and Smoltz were locked in a scoreless duel till the 10th when the Twins walked it off...I'm pretty sure Morris went the full 10 innings...back when starters went more than 6 innings lol

Supposedly everybody loves Bobby Cox, and Royals WS manager Ned Yost idolized Bobby Cox. But I cried when the Bills lost to the Giants and I also cried when the Braves lost Game 7. And isn't that the game Smoltz was dealing and Bobby Cox took him out when he was pitching a shut out!! Smoltz loves Bobby Cox, but he said in a recent interview that he is 100% certain they would have won that game had he stayed in.
He said Cox signaled to the dugout to bring in the reliever before he reached the mound, because Smoltz would have ripped his ass if he said, "we are taking you out!"

btw.. HighEyeCue, I forgot to say to your Rich Hill Mets comment.. who hasn't Rich Hill played for? Of course he has played for the Mets and the Royals the guy is 45 and played for pretty much every team in the league, smh
..honestly though I'd never heard of him till he came to the Royals. And they already demoted him after the Braves rocked him a couple nights ago. The Royals went from having 10 potential starting pitchers to only having 3 legit starters.
ROYALS STARTING PITCHING BEST IN BASEBALL ---- NOW DOWN TO JUST 3 STARTERS!!
1. Lugo - stud
2. Wacha - stud
3. Noah Cameron - stud
4. Ragans - out with injury
5. Bubic - All Star last week, this week out for the season with injury
6. Lorenzon - out with injury
7. Brady Singer - traded for Jonathon India before opening day
8. Kyle Wright - won 21 games in 2022 with the Braves now out with injury
9. Rich Hill - got blown up by the Braves now deactivated
10. Alec Marsh - Solid number 5 last year out this entire year with injury
11. Dallas Keikal - big name pitcher trying to resserect his career in Triple AAA with the Royals

interesting tidbit is that I became a Bills fan ever since spending some time in Western New York when I was little and was also upset when they lost to the Giants before losing 3 more consecutive Super Bowls.
yeah Rich Hill has pitched for about half the teams in baseball lol…it’s crazy what has happened to the Royals staff this year though, but yet you guys are still competing hard. Respect
-
I’m watching your Mets today to see their last game against Bergert; because Bergert just got traded to the Royals. Bergert is shutting y’all down. Soto drove the ball to the track but for an out.
I see your Padres have your former player Iglesias at 3rd

yeah he did...our offense completely shut down in that series...doesn't bode well for the playoffs because we would be playing them if the season were to end today
I always thought it was a mistake not to resign Iglesias...he was a big part of our team last year not only in the field but he was a good clubhouse guy too

Yeah he’s really smooth there at 3rd, made some nice plays behind Bergert.
I’m really excited about Bergert. Royals are back to .500 now and they surprised a lot of people and were buyers at the deadline. I don’t get it, so many fans in KC were begging the Royals to sell and calling the GM done. What a loser attitude. The teams .500 and 3.5 back and they are just supposed to give up halfway thru the year??
But that’s the trend now. Look at the Guardians. They were above .500 and just gave up and became sellers. What a loser attitude, and that’s not what sports is about. I just don’t respect it, but glad they did because now the Royals can easily leapfrog them in the race.
We picked up at the deadline:
Bergert - young starter under team control for a few years on the rise
Yestremski- hit a homer in first game as a Royal yesterday. Grandson of famous father.
Then two more #5 Starter type guys
Frazier: solid .250 guy
Gretchen: solid .250 platoon type
I’m happy with that ^^ it’s a huge upgrade. .250 looks average but the guys they are replacing were at .150, lol
We’re going for it baby !!!!!!!!!

Mets playing like trash lately :-[

I’m happy with that ^^ it’s a huge upgrade. .250 looks average but the guys they are replacing were at .150, lol
We’re going for it baby !!!!!!!!!
if you guys make one of the wildcards you are going to be a problem with that pitching staff in a short series
nothing would please me more than to see the Royals eliminate the Yankees in the playoffs

Mets playing like trash lately :-[

If Ragans comes back and looks like himself then yes.
But we lost our All-Star Bubic, and Lugo and Wacha are studs but the problem with our #3 is he is a rookie, and minor league seasons are shorter than MLB seasons. So you always have to consider a first year starter could wear down by September.
But I fear the Yankees. Sorry to say. It’s was an honor to go toe to toe with them in the 80’s era with George Brett we played them like every year to Battle for the AL. Last year we got to do it again.
I don’t like the Yankees but I do fear them.

I don't know man, the Yankees can be beat...especially with the way Judge usually performs in the playoffs they can be picked off by a lesser team
I think you guys can do it, especially in a short series...now if you are playing in a 7 game series in the ALCS I feel the Yankees would have the advantage
as far as the Mets go I cant see them in anyway beating San Diego or LA especially with the Dodgers starting to get their players back from the IL

Both Yankees and dodgers are beatable unless ohtani and judge improve their postseason play

I think the Dodgers are deep enough to offset Ohtani's struggles though
The Yankees aren't going anywhere in the playoffs if Judge doesn't show up this year

Yeah true but there have been games where the whole line up will go cold. And that happens I get it but if it happens in the postseason it’s a wrap. We just got Muncy back and he was heating up before the injury. Hopefully he gets back on track and also Mookie is having the worst season I’ve ever seen him have. Is this the beginning of the fall off?

Who are your favorite old school players from the 80’s….
Better yet who are your favorite old old school players from the 60’s??
I stumbled upon some good Barry Bonds piece on YouTube—I will post it here in a bit, but in the video Bonds breaks down all the biggest at bats in his career. The guy is supposedly an arrogant asshole but it’s kind of touching that whenever he mentions his father Bobby Bonds and Willy Mays he’s suddenly humbled and like a little kid again just trying to be like his two hero’s.
https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=ZonUcRlDWUI&t=1165s
Made me go back and look at a lot of this great Willy Mays material, and Bobby Bonds also seems like a great guy. They talk about Willy Mays like he was a God in his day. If an ump made a bad call on a key play in a game Willy would shout at him in frustration, “I hope you will reconsider!!”

My favorite player from the 80’s was Darryl Strawberry. I really only remember his season in ‘90 because he left for the Dodgers the following year but he hit 37 home runs that year and had a chance to break his own team record which was 39 but with the Mets falling out of the race in early September he sat out the last 3 weeks of the season. I was kinda pissed at the time as a little kid but I understood his thinking later on because he was going to be a free agent at seasons end. It’s kind of selfish but in a way with the team out of contention he passed up the opportunity to set the Met record so it’s kind of team first in a way as well

Probably because I'm 43 (and have pretty much no life other than teaching my ESL students, posting on dubcc, and watching the Royals) but this stuff is really grabbing me these days I've been watching all these historical baseball documentaries.
It all started last week when I saw that video of Barry Bonds talking about his idol Willy Mays and now I can't stop binge watching these things in between Royals games. I even like the ol' fashioned background jingles from the good ol days (when a man was a man and a woman was a woman and baseball was America's game—the national past time).

You'll like this one too homie.
A lot of great Mets material with Doc Gooden and Strawberry, they had some memorable years in the 80's it appears. I didn't realize they were that good, I thought Gooden and straw flamed out fast because of cocaine but they had more good years with the Mets than I thought. A lot of famous players on those teams. Keith Hernandez was in Seinfeld, lol (Jerry is a die hard Mets fan and has a crush on him in the episode, lol).
I knew the Phillies were good, I like a lot of the Pete Rose stuff at the beginning of the decade he was still good in his 40's as an out of shape white boy! And then in the late 80's he gets busted and kicked off the Reds and they have the upset victory over the A's.
Sandwiched in the middle he glosses over the Royals, which was bad, because the Royals dominated the 80's just like the Mets did, but he spends a lot of time on your Mets.

Cheers to the 80's! The greatest decade in the history of humanity !!

thanks man 8)
those 80s teams were something else...I missed most of their heyday especially the WS title in'86
this will also give me a distraction from the horrible play the Mets have exhibited since the All Star Break lol

Yankees are faltering as well now that Judge is out. I'm shocked, I just always expect the Yankees and Mets to win because of their payrolls. I still think both NY teams will come around in the end and make the playoffs. Do you still think the Mets will make the playoffs?
As for the Old, Old school MLB kick that I'm onto these days, this is one I've never seen that I'm going to watch tonight. This documentary and Billy Crystal's love for Mickey Mantle almost had me crying this morning. After work today I'm going to watch the movie 61—looks like it will be amazing. Billy Crystal put every detail into the movie from the way a guy would walk to the plate that season if he had an injury for a few weeks.

I still think they can but if you put a gun to my head I would say no. Our starters keep going 4 innings and that puts too much strain on our bullpen day in and day out. We made some trades at the deadline for bullpen arms but we didn’t get a starter. I think that will come back to haunt us.
On the bright side Soto is starting to come around and Alonso has been pretty solid lately as well. So there’s that lol
Looking forward to that review 8)

Mets won...Hallelujah ;D

On a Barry Bonds binge still—
I believe in personal responsibility and legalization so I don’t care that much that Bonds to PEDS and as for him allegedly being a jerk I guess I was unfortunately fooled by the media and missed out on a lot of great years of baseball like their 2002 run—because his inner circle is Dusty Baker, Willy Mays, and obviously his father is Bobby Bonds and even Jim Leyland he considered like a father—if that is your circle then how in the world can you be a bad guy growing up and following in the footsteps of such great baseball men—and honoring them in every interview and everything you do on the baseball field??
So unfortunately I was fooled and I only got to catch those Pirate years because they were the Braves rival on TBS —but I missed watching and enjoying the career of a modern day Babe Ruth and baseball Michael Jordan, smh
So now the good news is I get to go back and watch it all on the YouTube Time Machine. I’m going to make my own YouTube short of some of the classic dugout moments like the kids in the Giants dugout—some as little as 3 years old, working as bat boys and crying at the loss—very touching moment I just only became aware of today. I will post my video later.
Smart phones (pulling up game stats at a red light or toilet break) and analytics (Brad Pitt Moneyball) is what got me back into baseball ⚾️ in 2007 for the first time the 90’s strike era. So I missed some great Barry Bonds years.
Anything that happened in baseball from the strike in 95 — 2007 I totally missed out on. And before 95’ I followed everything in baseball—but 2007 and beyond I just follow everything about the Royals and also like hearing about the analytical/Sabermetrics stuff.
And HighEyeCue keeping me up with the Mets and Sccit/Dog wit the Artful Dodgers

Wtf was that Mets game yesterday man it’s like their trying to do their best dodgers impression and suck more
Dodgers and Mets both been suckin a lot of dicks lately
Kershaw on the mound tonight against SD. Need this W bad but that’s what I said the other day against the Angels and we lost

It’s okay the season goes up and down as long as you make the playoffs you can win it all. Don’t worry about the bumps in the road, even the best teams in history lose 60 games its a long season

like Infinite said it’s a long season…as I am typing this I’m watching Sean Manea give up a run in the 1st inning lol
I like the Dodgers chances better than the Mets chances though

yeah when Doggy was complaining I went and checked the Dodgers record and I thought they would be like closer to .500 the way he was complaining, but they were like a whole 15 games over .500, lol
it's like dude, the Dodgers are going to be fine, as far as going to the playoffs. Unless you are like insisting on a division win or something.
Royals are back in the race again we are 1 game over .500. The trades are working out with crafty veterens like Adam Frazier who can find a whole in the defense and just poke the ball opposite field for a base hit. Bergert seems like he's gonna be a steal. Salvy is making his last big punch like George Foreman. Vinny Paz is starting to creep up to the top of the RBI race, and Mikel Garcia is continuing his breakout year, Noah Cameron has had the best start to a major league pitching career of any pitcher in the last 40 freaking years!!
But ultimately, to channel my inner Bill Parcells (wasn't it him that said it?) "We are what our record says we are". So we are one game over and 3 games out of the playoffs so we still need one or two more guys to step up to get over the hump.

we are 18-22 in our last 40 games .. it's been pretty brutal

and just like that the Dodgers swept the Padres and the Mets won 2 out of 3 against the Mariners
Baseball is a funny game lol
