Zune - Live at the BBQ, New York City, August 4 - By : JustinL - July 31, 2007

On Saturday, August 4, Zune will be executing their third show in its "Live at the BBQ" series in New York City, presenting a day of food, drinks and hip hip music to the community. The event is open to the public, and RSVP is required through the "Live at the BBQ" site www.zuneliveattheBBQ.com. Confirmed artists for the New York Zune BBQ include Brand Nubian, Cham, MIMS, Joell Ortiz, Clipse, and Large Professor.
Rather than sponsoring an existing concert series, the Zune team created the "Zune-Live at the BBQ" series from the ground up. Zune worked with artists directly, to give back to the cultural core consumer and connecting Zune with that core by giving them the opportunity to participate in the Zune mantra, which is to support Art, Music and Film in the digital space with technology and innovation. Consider these shows as rewards to those who have come to support the digital platform. By bringing music back to the community parks, they're also a thank you to those individuals in the cities who have come to support the local and national Art, Music and Film community. It's a nod to a time when this music was about community; community support and community interaction. The idea is to re-create that energy with the ultimate park jam experience. Zune launched the first BBQ experience in Los Angeles with performances by Common, UGK, E-40 and Collie Budz. Last weekend, the event series hit Chicago with performances by Mos Def, Talib Kweli, Bilal, Little Brother, Qualo, and a special set from Black Star.

.......................................................................................... Chamillionaire: "Hip-Hop Police"/ "Evening News" Videos - By : Nima - July 28, 2007

Hip-Hop has just been blessed with two of the dopest videos in a long time. We can thank Chamillionaire, for stepping outside the box, being creative, and having the guts to give people something to think about, even after his blew up with "Ridin' Dirty". He could have went the easy route, he could have dropped a club banger with some big booty girls shaking their ass next to muscle cars in a bling'd out video, it probably would have done the job.
But Cham decided he wanted to take it to another level, thus his two latest videos, "Hip-Hop Police", featuring Slick Rick, and "Evening News".
You see Cham playing himself, a detective, a police officer, a white anchorman, the weatherman and more roles in these politically controversial videos.
Click the links below to watch both the videos on YouTube, and support Chamillionaire when he drops his sophomore project "Ultimate Victory" September 18th, because he deserves it for these two videos alone:

.......................................................................................... Jazzy Jeff Plans "The Return Of The Magnificent" - By : ConanMilne - July 23, 2007

Today DubCNN adds to it's growing Reviews section with another fresh addition. This time we have critiqued the recently released Jazzy Jeff project, "The Return Of The Magnificent." The album offers a generous dose of conscious Hip-Hop, and sees Jeff tale helm as producer.
"The Return Of The Magnificent" also boasts high-profile appearances from the likes of Method Man and Kardinal Offishall . In this review we decide if such collaborations are ultimately worth checking out.
"The Return Of The Magnificent" receives the Dub Quotable: "Jazzy Jeff may be immortalized as the person hauled off the Bel-Air property, but those who refuse to take ‘Jazzy Jeff, the Hip-Hop honorary’ to heart are doing themselves a great disservice." .......................................................................................... Slip Capone: Don't Call It A Comeback - By : LilJay - July 21, 2007

It's been a minute since the West has heard from names like Slip Capone, Knoc-Turn'al, or Time Bomb. All of them were signed to L.A. Confidential Records, which was headed by Big D. One of the label members, Slip Capone, was supposed to have his big debut with his album "Caponey Boy", which had completed songs with Nate Dogg, Dr. Dre, and other big names.
"My album never dropped due to different reasons." Slip told Dubcnn.com. "For one, there were a lot of creative differences. People want to put you in a box and make you a certain image.
But I'm way more than a gangsta rapper. I'm a gang member but I can rap my ass off about everything, not just jerry curl music. That was one problem, but there were a lot of haters in the mix. Not artists wise, but behind the scenes. The problem was the management and the people handling the business. I mean how can you have Dr. Dre, Nate Dogg, Aaron Hall on your album, but the album never drops? You can tell that it had nothing to do with money or how dope the record was. It's obvious that you have to be some kind of hater to not put out a record with all those names. The business just wasn't right, so I'd rather just walk away."
Today, Slip is currently putting together his upcoming project called "Kill The Industry". As far as features you can expect Bad Azz, Daz and Kurupt, Aaron Hall, and other, even international, guests. Production on "Kill The Industry" was handled by S-Dog, Dae One and other upcoming producers. "These are all West Coast guys that ain't Dr. Dre yet, but I guarantee you, they will be!" Slip continued.
Dubcnn has some old and some new audio from Slip Capone. We got two tracks from the new project "Kill The Industry", as well as two exclusive tracks from his unreleased "Caponey Boy" album, one of them being "Mind On My Money" featuring Nate Dogg with production by S-Dog.

.......................................................................................... Zune's "Live at the BBQ" Chicago: Sunday, July 22 - By : JustinL - July 20, 2007

This coming Sunday, July 22, Zune will be taking its "Live at the BBQ" event to the communities of Chicago, presenting a day of food, drinks and hip hip music. The event is open to the public, and RSVP is required through the "Live at the BBQ" site . Confirmed artists for the Chicago Zune BBQ include Mos Def, Bilal, Little Brother, and Qualo.
Zune launched the first BBQ experience last week in Los Angeles with performances by Common, UGK, E-40 and Collie Budz. The "Live at the BBQ" series will continue following the Chicago date with an event in New York City on August 4th. Discuss This Topic
.......................................................................................... Next In Line: A Da Business! - By : LilJay - July 20, 2007

If you've never heard of Los Angeles rapper A Da Business a.k.a. A-B, then it's not your fault. He has been quiet and patiently waiting a long time for his big break. The hard work behind the scenes has paid off, as he's currently in negotiations with several major record labels, thanks to his resume which includes names like 50 Cent, Kanye West, LT Hutton, Tyrese and many others.
Going back 3 years, A-B was introduced to 50 Cent to collaborate on a song called "Infrared" produced by Red Spyda.
To this day, the song is still unreleased. Why you ask? The reason is that the same beat later found its way onto "Guerilla City", a song from Guerilla Black's last album, even before A-B got his chance to shine.
"Me and 50 Cent originally did the song," A-B told Dubcnn.com. "but then the beat was sold to Guerilla Black. It wasn't Guerilla's fault, it was his A&R from Virgin Records who fucked up. He heard me on the song and he was like "I'm working on the Guerilla Black album, I need to buy that track!" So he went behind my back and bought the beat from Red Spyda. It was a gay ass lil' move. But I wasn't trippin', cause like I said, once 50 and me touched the song it was over! I never put the album out so the song never saw the light of day. If I would have put the album out, Guerilla Black would have never been able to put that song out. But Guerilla is my homeboy too, so it ain't no bad look for him, it's just his A&R." A-B continued.
A-B said that he might still use "Infrared" for his upcoming mixtape, but him and 50 are probably gonna do something new for the album. "50 did his thing on there for me as far as putting the hook on there, and I laced the verses. They did the song under Dr. Dre's roof, and you know, when they do something under his proof, it's a Dre beat automatically. But Spyda originally did the beat though. The only way Dre's name was gonna be on it is if I had put it on my album, but I was still gonna give Red Spyda his credit." A-B said.
When asked why he never got the chance to drop the album, even though it had appearances from heavyweights like 50 Cent, he said that "I couldn't drop it by myself. We need the deals to go through, and I never signed no contracts with nobody. I did that song independent, but I pulled that off being a hot artist. They asked me to come in and do a few songs and one thing led to another. I was also fucking with my family at BMF [Black Mafia Family], so everybody thought I was signed to them. I was an artist at BFM, but I never signed any contracts."
Around that time, Sha Money XL tried to sign A-B to G-Unit after the song with 50 was completed. And as of today, he's just looking for the right place to get signed. "Right now, my big homie Warren G is trying to shop me to Aftermath, so we're trying to see what's going on with that situation. Warren said that Aftermath would probably be the best place for me, being a L.A. artist. But I'm not the type of dude hunting down labels and beating down their doors telling them to play my music. I just stay recording, and whatever comes up, comes up!"
Being aware that many artists signed to Aftermath were dropped in the past, A-B explained that it's all about your dedication and your grind. "The record label can only do so much. It's on you to make yourself hot!"
A-B is currently cooking up hits behind closed doors, before he's getting ready to hit the big scene. He's got a new single that is about to drop called "Don't Get Me Confused" featuring Tyrese on the hook with production by LT Hutton. Frequent Dubcnn visitors will be familiar with the song, as it was previously featured on Tyrese's (a.k.a. Black Ty) mixtape "Ghetto Royalty", which we offered for free download a while ago. The mixtape version was a Remix and also featured a verse from Kurupt.
The track will be featured on his upcoming album "Have Heart, Have Money". To create a buzz for his debut, he's coming with a mixtape first called "Hood Classic". As you can see, A-B is about his work ethic. In addition to these two projects, he has already started working on his follow-up album called "All Business, Never Personal".
"Right now we're working on the marketing strategy and promotion for "Have Heart, Have Money", A-B told Dubcnn. "As for the music, I did everything on my own. I did over 70 songs with all kind of hot producers like LT Hutton, Kanye West, Jelly Roll, Denaun Porter, DJ Khalil, No I.D., KG from Naughty By Nature, Rick Rude, Rodney Jerkins, and many others. Basically I'm making the label's job a lot easier. The package is ready. What you wanna do? Just cut the check, start on media and promotion, drop the single, shoot a video, and it's a wrap!" he said.
Of course we're not gonna let you sit there reading this without bumping some of A-B's music. So we present you the aforementioned tracks "Infrared" featuring 50 Cent and "Don't Get Me Confused" featuring Tyrese, as well as another track called "Where You Are".

.......................................................................................... Introducing Fresno's Lieutenant - By : LilJay - July 14, 2007

Representing the West Coast, Lieutenant is giving life to a part of California that is not typically voiced, Fresno. After a few failed attempts with local labels, Lieutenant decided to take matters in to his own hands and begand to manage his career. But at the same time he was following the cliché path of so many other rappers, as Lieutenant began to peddle drugs in and around the city, in a desperate attempt of finance trips back and forth to Los Angeles, in hopes of breaking into the rap scene.
These trips paid off, as Lieutenant managed to prove himself and work with the likes of Teddy Riley, Rick Rock, Akon, and others. Fueled by inspiration from some of the greatest songwriters of all time, Scarface, Notorious B.I.G., 2Pac, and Stevie Wonder, he was able to develop his own technique.
To showcase his songwriting skills, Dubcnn has three songs from Lieutenant available for download. All songs were produced by Mynority Live (Nate Dogg, Lupe Fiasco, Cruna). My personal favorite being "Afta Tha Afta Party", has a self-explaining title, so you know how the song goes. Lieutenant comes off dope on a laid back joint with an addictive hook that is sure to have your speakers bumpin' early in the morning. The song is actually the #2 most requested record in The Kingdom Of Bahrain right now, and Lieutenant will be heading out there next month in support of the single. The other two tracks we have are called "Rock Music" and "Angels", two perfect examples for his diversity.
