Richmond, CA native IamSu! can be called a lot of things — rapper, producer, songwriter — but “miseducated” is not one of them. Last year, the 22-year-old produced, penned the hook, and provided a scene stealing 16 for fellow Bay Area newcomer LoveRance’s smash-hit single “Up.” On The Miseducation Of Iamsu!, which he released in December 2011 to serve as an appetizer for “KILT“, Su! has been described as having the confidence of fellow Cali rapper Dom Kennedy and the smooth delivery of Nipsey Hussle.
Although Su! shouldered much of the production on Miseducation, he handed the duties for HBKJoe Beat off to HBK affiliate HBKJoe, who laced Su! with a lazy, saxphone-sampling beat that perfectly complements the low-key, playful video, which was directed by Chris Simmons.
That was our last update on the talented newcomer but today we return as the man – who featured on the smash E-40 hit Function with Problem and YG – will make his debut appearance on BET’s 106 & Park next Monday, alongside E-40 and release his third mixtape, the aforementioned KILT. To give a sneak peak of what’s to come, Su! is excited to liberate a new single off the tape titled,“Cancelled Plans.”
For “Cancelled Plans,” IamSu! whipped up an absolute banger, equipped with hypnotizing synth waves, block-thumping 808s, and a razor-sharp flow that all blends well on this concordant display of confidence.
The song was produced by The Invasion, a production crew consisting of Su!, P-Lo, and Kuya. The Invasion is a part of a larger artist collective named Heartbreak Gang or HBK Gang, consisting of over a dozen rappers, producers, graphic designers, video producers, and the like – check the record below!
