DubCNN: DubCNN checking in with veteran West Coast hitter, Ms Toi. What’s up fam?
All is well loved one thanks for having me on DubCNN.
DubCNN: If I am not mistaken, you are working on a brand new project. Can you tell us a little about this?
I dropped I Am A WARRIOR Part 1 early 2014 and Part 2 late 2014 on my new label G.O Entertainment LLC now Part 3 got a buzz!
DubCNN: You also have a banger, with production from West Coast Stone, that has been getting good reviews. This song is from a different project, correct?
The song Strange featuring and produced by West Coast Stone is on #IAMAWARRIOR part 3 exclusive mix available to listen to on my SoundCloud.
DubCNN: How would you describe the sound of the new projects, Ms.Toi? Can we expect any collaborations on the projects?
Toi: WarriorMusic: I Am A WARRIOR Part 1 featured Ice Cube, Yukmouth, Nyce, Cl’Che’, Suga T, Yo-Yo & Sula. I Am A WARRIOR P 2: featured Cl’Che’, Mr.Tan, Speak-Lo, Nebluv, RedRum, Escomusic & Squeak Ru. Now I Am A WARRIOR Part 3 is still in production but so far I have West Coast Stone, Isabell Requena, Cl’Che’ and Bfly. I let nature take it’s course when it comes to my features.
DubCNN: How does Ms. Toi’s style today, compare to previous work from Ms. Toi?
I create opportunities instead of waiting for them. My production squad has a great track record all of my producers tailor make my tracks. My best friend and sister in the game Cl’Che’ bought me a shrink wrap kit for my birthday all I needed was my own studio to get the work done and keep my catalog thick with quality music. After landing a lead role in a Black Friday Verizon Commercial I invested in my studio and I’ve been dropping albums ever since.
DubCNN: What is your opinion on the current state of hip-hop? Especially from the perspective of a female MC…
If there was a state of Hip Hop maybe I could tell you from my point of view looks like things are way out of control. But I see the world is hungry for this #warriormusic and I’m here to give it to them.
DubCNN: What is your opinion on the recent support, and infusion of new music, on the West Coast?
The worldwide love from here to overseas let’s me know I am loved in the hip hop communities all over the world. My purpose is bigger then the West Coast and they’re taking notes.
DubCNN: What was it like for you growing up in Inglewood, California?
The city of Champs the Wood has big love for the WARRIOR and I’m proud to rep my city.
DubCNN: Who are your top 5 MC’s of all-time?
That’s really never been my style to have favorites I live this I breath this and looking at the game today I don’t have a desire to have a favorite unless we work together. I now base my assessment on the moves you make as an artist not how many times you paid to get your song played to brain wash us to liking it instead of seeing the artist put in work.
DubCNN: Having collaborated with various West Coast heavy hitters, including ICE CUBE on the platinum selling single YOU CAN DO IT, you definitely have carved your mark in West Coast hip-hop. Do you have a favorite collaboration of all-time?
My favorite collaboration of all is a song I did with Nate Dogg R.I.P he made it happen. Nate Dogg called KDay while Greg Mack was interviewing me about my new album at the time Not Yo Average Chick played my single produced by Mr.Payback called West Coast Gangster Hit. He called to tell me he really liked my single but asked to speak to me off air and said “he wanted to do a song with me: don’t bring none of them bitches!” The next day I went to the studio in Irvine to work with Nate Dogg and made the song Something I can go home with that’s currently on Hustle Hard part 2 by Cl’Che’ available on SoSouth.
