Have you ever heard of those television or radio shows that unearth some never heard before interview of footage as being ‘long lost’? Well, that is the case with a conversation that appears on this week’s Microphone Masters Radio Show with A-Plus from Souls of Mischief and Hieroglyphics collective. Who knows what J-Luv was doing at the time to misplace a conversation with such a Hip Hop stalwart but alas it is available for your listening pleasure. A-Plus talks about two recently released projects that includes a strictly instrumental offering. They are titled Molly’s Dirty Water and Think Tank respectively. The projects are produced by A-Plus and his production partner Agee.
When asked about the admittedly EDM tinged sound on Molly’s Dirty Water A-Plus had this to say,
“Basically it’s a Hip Hop/EDM hybrid project that I was working on with Agee. We were just kind of trying to push the boundaries a little bit. I’m a bit EDM fan and have been listening for quite a few years. It got to the point where we were just going to put our hand in it to have a little EDM influence on some Hip Hop stuff to see what it sounded like…”
A-Plus also shared his thought process behind his instrumental album, Think Tank.
“During the development (of Molly’s Dirty Water) …I wasn’t sure how people who were already into Hiero or Souls (of Mischief) or myself would take something like that. Because music lovers can be really picky about what they like and the art they like and I try to keep that in mind. I was going to do it (create and instrumental album) anyway but I didn’t want anybody to get any wild ideas that I wasn’t messing with Hip Hop anymore. So along the process of making Molly’s Dirty Water I was also making Think Tank. I wanted that to be more grounded in what I do normally. Sample based melodies with Hip Hop. It’s what I like to do.”
Check out the entire conversation on the 100th Episode of Microphone Masters Radio Show and we will make sure to tell J-Luv not to ‘misplace’ any more conversations.
