Anticipation for FREEWIFI’s forthcoming Rostrum Records debut builds with the release of the Minneapolis hip hop trio’s music video for “Ghost,” the latest single that is now available on Spotify, iTunes,Apple Music and Google Play.
FREEWIFI members Tha Rift, J. Plaza and Daddy Dinero rock a warehouse party haunted by a creepy black balloon-holding female ghost in the lively clip produced by FWM FAM WORLDWIDE and directed by 13Twentythree & FWM FAM WORLDWIDE.
The infectious, head-nodding track produced by DJ FU features the emcees showcasing their humor, wit and ambidextrous flows. On the chorus, they confidently assert their ranking amongst the competition, rapping, “They can’t see me / I’m ghost, I’m ghost.”

Three of Minneapolis’ finest, rising solo MCs have united to form FREEWIFI, a force unlike anything the city has ever seen.
Minneapolis producer Angelo Bombay brought the trio together in 2016 when looking for features for a song he produced for Tha Rift, the group’s energized MC with a penchant for speedy bars. Bombay connected with J. Plaza and Daddy Dinero via social media and the chemistry was undeniable and yielded their debut collaboration “Ego.”
“Ego” showcases the Rostrum Records artists’ personalities and compatible, yet distinct styles — Tha Rift’s catchy chorus, Plaza’s melodic baritone flow and Daddy Dinero’s confident delivery and likeable arrogant lyrics. The song was an instant local success, generating more than 100,000 views on YouTube and support from area staples Go 90.3, CityPages and opportunities to open up for Machine Gun Kelly, Wiz Khalifa and Waka Flocka. Last spring kicked off a series of major shows including Heather B’s Fifth Element stage at Soundset, EST Festival, Summer Set and A3C.
“FREEWIFI reps the unity of us coming together,” Tha Rift explains. “We are three different MCs from different walks of life, but we connected through social media and phones before we connected in person. We also reach and impact our society by living a free lifestyle and encouraging others to live free spirited.” Hence, the name FREEWIFI.
Tha Rift caught the attention of tastemaker blog Pigeons & Planes after responding to their challenge for readers to get a tattoo of the website’s logo. He took it a step further, inking the image himself. While P&P loved the gesture, the team was equally impressed with the group’s song “Salsa” which it premiered and described as “pretty hot” and “full of clever lines that deserve an extra listen or two.” J. Plaza scored props from Jaden Smith when he remixed Smith’s “Batman,” reworking it as “Robin” and Tweeting a Soundcloud link to the young musician-actor. Additionally, Dinero’s 2015 remix of Drake’s “Energy” is nearing 1 million streams.
Influenced by the likes of Kendrick Lamar, A$AP Mob, Speaker Knockers and their own individual styles, FREEWIFI is a unique trio of eclectic talent, driven by intertwining life experiences. J. Plaza, an army brat, began writing pint-sized rhymes as a kid. Rift, a decorated U.S. Navy veteran, was crafting beats and was ready to risk it all for his love of music. Meanwhile Dinero, the youngest of the crew, left college and a wrestling scholarship to pursue hip hop after many failed attempts to find artists to rap over his beats.
The union is the perfect complement to their talents. FREEWIFI’s dynamic forthcoming debut album is on track to put Minneapolis on the hip hop map, worldwide.
