Happy 4th Birthday DUBCC! - January 31, 2005 By : Nima
Roughly a year and a half before DubCNN went live, the DubCC forums were launched by my good friend Overseer. The message board is what set the stones for what you see we have created with this site today. DubCNN hit it off so big from the first day on because of the fan base we already had built through the message board.
Today, 4 years have passed since the beginning of the West Coast Connection Forums, so if you aren't signed up yet, get your ass over there and make sure to sign up!!
This is still just the beginning though... If you thought what we accomplished to this day is big, just wait and watch 2005, cause it's about to go down!Discuss This Topic

R.I.P. Young Grinn Of The Link Crew - January 30, 2005 By : Nima
I'm afraid I have to deliver some bad news today... Young Grinn from The Link Crew was shot and killed by the Rohnert Park police. Here is a part of the press article:
"Rohnert Park police shot and killed a man Friday night after a car chase and then a foot pursuit through a large apartment complex, authorities said.
The man, armed with a handgun, stopped, turned and aimed at pursuing officers before he was shot, Rohnert Park police Sgt. Art Sweeney said.
He said the man, whose name wasn't immediately available, was taken to an area hospital in critical condition. Sonoma County Sheriff's Lt. Craig Wiseman said the man subsequently died.
Police didn't identify the officer involved. Sweeney said he didn't know how many shots were fired.".

Official Black Wall Street/Game Statements - January 28, 2005 By : SGV
 January 28th, 2005 BWS Headquarters
RE: Release Official Statement
Dear Sirs:
We are contacting you because we've been informed that you either have statements that are untrue or you have speculations that need to be addressed.
We appreciate your concern, and here is our official statement to the press in direct response to the very disturbing incidents that has happened as of late.
At this time, please find these statements as an official response to any allegations and rumors. We'd like them dispelled immediately. We'd appreciate it if all members of the press allow fair reports and investigations before making any assumptions. As The Game is very fond of all of your publications, and would love to discuss these issues further, The Game has no further comments beyond the statements below at this time:
The Radio Incident: "We don't understand how one discussion with DJ Zulu, of WKYS, involves The Game at all. We are as disturbed by this incident as he is, and plan on confronting this matter head on, as soon as time permits."
The Attack On Our Headquarters: "We at the Black Wall Street Headquarters are deeply disturbed that the community is not celebrating that one of its own has made it, but yet devouring it. Yet we are not surprised by this type of violence , as this type of violence has happened for years, but we did not expect it to happen to us at this moment, as we are now giving back to the community. We are all safe, and we appreciate your concerns."
Very Truly Yours, Shemia Miller

New Artist: Diktator - January 27, 2005 By : SGV

DIKTATOR was born Marcus Paysour on January 8, 1986 in Charlotte, North Carolina. He is the only child of a single parent household. DIKTATOR graduated from West Charlotte High School on June 10, 2004.
DIKTATOR's love for music began at the early age of six (6), by emulating known top rap artist at the time---Snoop Dog, JayZ, Puff Daddy, Dr. Dre and others. He joined with other neighborhood kids participating in school talent shows, and even church programs. By the time DIKTATOR was twelve years old, he was writing his own lyrics, and was teaching others to do the same. DIKTATOR has the uncanny ability to capture clear, simple, pungent, and heartfelt truisms about life--- friendship, love, and even death, in his writings.
In 2000, DIKTATOR and three friends formed the rap group, NuWorld. In April of 2002, NuWorld was the opening act for Lil' Romeo and the No Limit All Stars Tour at the Old Charlotte Coliseum. NuWorld also performed for the Lil' Romeo and the No Limit Allstars Tour in Columbia, South Carolina, the following weekend. DIKTATOR left NuWorld in December 2002 and began concentrating on his lyric writing, and becoming a solo artist. He records, engineers, produces and performs his own material. DIKTATOR is the latest phenomenon to emerge from the south. His style would be described as a mixture of dirty south and east coast.
He is no neophyte to the mic. In 2003, DIKTATOR's popularity really began to intensify. In June 2003, he received several airplays at the former Hot 92.7---Charlotte's FM Hip-Hop/RB radio station. He also performed regularly during the summer of 2003 at the H20 Club in Charlotte, at its Open Mic Nights. On August 20, 2003, DIKTATOR was the opening artist at the H20 Club for renowned rap artist TI. In April of 2004, DIKTATOR was featured on the World Wide Flava TV show along with other artists as Memphis Bleek and Anthony Hamilton. The TV Show was aired on UPN and a cable access channel in Charlotte, NC and in Atlanta, GA. On June 1st, 2004, DIKTATOR was featured on Charlotte's WPEG Power 98 radio show called 'The Next Big Thing". Charlotte's newest talk show called the S.E.L.F show will feature DIKTATOR airing on UPN in January 2005.
DIKTATOR's greatest musical inspiration and idols have been DMX and Nas. His future goals have always been to perfect his art while pursuing a major recording deal. Through constant writing and recording, he has completed his first album "Shut It Down."
Stream two tracks from DIKTATOR's album, below. Look for an interview with DIKTATOR soon!

Jin Responds To Hot 97 - January 26, 2005 By : SGV
I'm sure by now you've all heard about the "Tsunami Song" played by Hot 97 in New York's Morning Show Crew. If not, here's a brief synopsis of the situation. Prior to introducing the "Tsunami Song," host, Miss Jones and Todd Lynn attack Miss Info, who happens to be Asian, as she objects to the song. Miss Jones say she's complaining because "you feel superior, probably because you're Asian." Miss Info makes it clear that the song is offensive to Asians, which Lynn followed with, "I'm gonna start shooting Asians." They play the song, which poked fun at the Tsunami victims and Asians. Some lyrics included:
"And all at once, you can hear the screaming chinks And no one was saved from the wave There were Africans drowning, little Chinamen swept away You can hear God laughing, 'Swim you bitches swim.'"
The morning show has been suspended indefinitely because of an immense backlash from angry listeners. Asian Rapper, Jin is not sitting quiet. He hopped in the lab and recorded a song aimed at Hot 97's Morning crew.

And for those who so desire, here's a link to listen to the The Tsunami Song. Discuss This Topic

Introducing: Habitt; Album Coming Feb 22nd - January 26, 2005 By : Nima

The upcoming debut album slated for release from Fat Daddy Records, owned by film and television actress Yvette Wilson (“The Parkers,” “Moesha,” “Poetic Justice,” “Fridays,” “Def Comedy Jam,”) and her husband, Jerome Harry, will be the debut album for Oakland rapper, Habitt. Titled “Talk Of The Town”, the album will be in stores on February 22. Prior to its release, the disc has already been hailed as “the best album from the Left Coast this year” by the venerated radio industry trade magazine, “Urban Network.” The album features tracks produced by the Elements, who have also produced releases from the Black Eyed Peas, the Wu Tang Clan, Pete Rock (featuring CL Smooth), Will Smith and Mariah Carey. The Luniz and Knock-Turn’Al also contributed to it.
Born as Sean Johnson, Habitt has lived in Los Angeles for the last six years, although he was raised in the Bay Area. Habitt confirms, “I get all my game from Oakland, it never left me, no matter where I went,” he says. “I still have that Oakland vibe to me. I’ll always have Oakland in my blood. It’s not like I sound like an Oakland rapper, but that’s the place that inspired me.” At the age of ten, he found his first love, rapping.
When Habitt left Oakland, he was blessed with a dollar for his dynamic desire to go after his fate. He packed his lyrics and moved to Los Angeles. Although he struggled working for only minimum wage, he never lost sight of his gift and why he relocated, setting his eyes on the prize, in hopes of being able to rap for a living. His patience and never-ending drive placed him with a job as a production assistant on the “UPN” show, “The Parkers.” He began to share his rap ambitions with anyone who would listen. At last, Yvette Wilson, one of the show's stars, became fascinated by Habitt's energetic drive and persistence, along with his rapping skills. She made a decision to give him that same chance she once had at the beginning of own her successful career. She took him to a studio where he was to unexpectedly perform for some professionals in the industry. Habitt overtook his audience, which responded in sincere applause. There would soon come the opportunity of a lifetime to literally make or break it.
Habitt didn’t know it yet, but Yvette Wilson was contemplating forming a record label with her husband, Jerome Harry, who worked in the music business. The couple gave Habitt an assignment. He would have to go on NBC's Showtime At The Apollo, and survive. If Habitt was to make surviving success with an often hard to please New York audience, they assured him he would be signed. His trip to the East Coast’s beastly stage of the Apollo was another phenomenal success. As a result, Habitt is now slated to be the first artist that will be released by Fat Daddy Records, the company formed by Wilson and Harry.
Although it may sound like a fairy tale ending, life was often quite difficult for Habitt. Tragedy came early, when he was only five years old, and his father died. Habitt, who often had a hard time dealing with the loss, eventually developed a few bad habits, due to the uncertain of the direction of his life. Habitt concedes, “I finally moved to L.A. because I was doing some things I shouldn’t have, and I had an opportunity to leave. I got shot at the age of 17, being in the wrong place at the wrong time. I was in the hospital and almost died. I am so blessed to be here, as I almost didn’t make it. That really woke me up.”
Habitt learned a lot about having game from his uncles, especially Mark Curry, who like Yvette Wilson, is also a comic. Curry is briefly heard on the album, and Habitt explains, “It really means a lot to me.” Habitt often used humor as a way to pull through the hard times, and says that Curry has long been one of his inspirations. Family members always supported his talents, especially his mother. “She raised me well, and had a lot on her hands, being a single mother.”
Habitt expresses much of his personal life in his music, particularly in the track, “Street Life.” Habitt confesses, “That song gives me chills because I dug deep into things that have happened in my life. A lot of my close friends have passed away, and I felt if I stayed in Oakland, the same thing could happen to me.”
Habitt believes that part of being the best person he can be includes having as much game as possible, hence the song, “Strictly Game.” He explains his philosophy by saying, “It all came from Oakland where I got my game. It’s entirely about your game, and it will come if you’re doing a good job at whatever it is you’re doing. But without game, you can’t have anything in life.”
The song “Lesson” is about regret, and it reveals the secret to having a successful relationship with a female. “There’s no I in we,” the song observes, as it spills its guts. Habitt says, “A lot of guys won’t come forward and admit they were wrong in a relationship. But as far as my album goes, this is real life; this is not a gimmick. Therefore, this song is very real and personal. It’s like my confessions. I wanted to do something for the ladies so they know that guys have feelings, too. The guys who listen to it, they’ll know it’s real. I put all my issues I’ve had with girls in there. I’ve broken a lot of hearts, and had my heart broken, too.”
Ultimately, there is a lot more to be heard on Habitt’s album, and people will definitely relate to what is being said as they bob their heads. No doubt, listening to this CD is destined to become a Habitt.

Spice 1 - Dyin' 2 Ball [Audio] - January 25, 2005 By : Nima

Spice 1 released a new album today called "Dyin' 2 Ball". Personally, I have to say I'm dissapointed, although it has a few highlights. I uploaded 3 tracks here for ya'll to check out and make up your own mind, these three are amongst my favorites. 40 Glocc is featured on a track, and Michelob appears on 4 tracks. The song "Thug Thang" has the exact same beat as the song "Get Ya Money" off the Yukmouth & C-Bo Thuglordz album, which I thought was weird.
Check out the tracklisting below and click on the highlighted tracks to download:
1. Dyin' 2 Ball 2. It's A Shame 3. Gangstaer As I Wanna Be 4. She Got Hydraulics On It 5. Rude Boy 6. Fake Ass Gangster 7. Character 8. Thug In Me 9. Candy 10. She's So Fly 11. Gangsta Girl 12. Da Ghetto 13. Cold Of The Streets 14. Thug Thang 15. Give A Dog A BoneDiscuss This Topic

Kurupt Dropping Greatest Hits Album - January 25, 2005 By : Nima

Bungalo Records are releasing a Kurupt's Greatest Hits album including an unreleased track and a bonus DVD with music videos on it. The CD is set to drop Feb. 15th 2005, and from the looks of it, it's a Treacherous/Bungalo release. Hopefully after this, he will have the green light to drop "Against The Grain" this May, as it's scheduled.
Let's hope everything happens that way, it would be sad to see this album get even more pushed back.
We'll keep you updated on this matter.Discuss This Topic

DR. Dre Comes Full Circle In The Game - January 25, 2005 By : SGV
All Hip Hop lovers and sympathizers know that Dr. Dre has been in the rap game for over 20 years. In fact, he was one of the pioneers of gangsta rap, helping create the West coast sound of Hip Hop. He created a reality that needed to be heard as the East Coast could be best known for metaphors and vivid descriptions and exaggerations of reality, the West Coast held a more different poetic stance. They spoke as if they were reading from their very own diaries. They spoke of things that forced Suburban America to pay attention, far beyond their glass houses a grimer picture was painted revealing the harsh struggles in the world. The East Coast continued to deliver a crafty method and mathematical timing of Hip Hop that either preached social change or gave a comical view of urban America, NWA boldly announced this statement, "Fuck The Police", "Express Yourself", "Dopeman" amongst countless others, all sharing to the world their reality and not apologizing one bit for it. Dr. Dre was also in the presence of Tupac as he gave us another added dimmension of reality. Since Dr. Dre left Death row in late 1996 he has built a new company -Aftermath and has made it one of the most powerful labels in hip hop. In fact Aftermath is the winning dynasty that has closed the gate on its competitors. With multi-platinum acts like Eminem and 50 cent, Dre has shaped and given a new face to hip hop and has guided these stars to superstardom. Now he has added large hip hop acts like Busta Ryhmes and Eve and has produced hits for all the heavy weights in the game.
Some would say Dre has nothing left to give hip hop or anything left to prove. Dr. Dre ‘s legacy as a hip hop legend is in place and undoubtly has nothing left to prove. Or maybe he does? Dre might not tell you his inner motivations but actions are a clear indication of any man, He actually owed himself something the ability to pay homage and give back to where he came from. He owes the place that helped made NWA a legend and DR. DRE an icon- COMPTON. Dr. Dre didn’t only come back to his home state of California to find the new face of the west coast; he came to his own back yard, his old hometown of Compton and found himself in the GAME.
Hailing from the same mean streets of Compton that Dre and Eazy E hailed from. GAME molded by the streets, by pain, by reality, by death, by new life, Dr. Dre saw everything that he experienced in this new found Aftermath soldier. At 25 yrs old and only a rapper of 3 yrs Game already has the savvy of a seasoned Jay-Z, and the in depth rhymes of the streets own Edgar Allen Poe NAS. Yes and although I have named 2 east coast artists and some West coast main stays would be offended to know he has combination and sound of East Coast rappers. But that is only one dimension of this multifaceted artist Game has the attitude of the young NWA. Game fearlessly speaks his mind, its almost as if he is not intending to offend, but that's how his very fabric is made. He openly speaks what many of us dare not to even think in a world of "politically correct" and "fake happiness". The Hip Hop game was becoming just that, we got new Blood. This is what west coast rap and gangsta rap was and is based on realities, honesty, candor that is unheard of. In a time when rappers want to talk about what they have seen in a movie or the hard lives others have had to endure. Game is a refreshing ray of light in Hip Hop. We all know there are times in our lives that we don't really want to know the truth, we are scared to find out the truth, but deep within our nature, our fabric, we know the truth is what we need. Not taking away from the other genres that emerged, but reality has a soothing effect on everyone's psyche no matter the good or bad, everyone underlying needs the truth. And The Game is definitely the truth.
Game rhymes and talks about what he has seen for 25 years of his life, but manages to connect with men who are in prison who have been there for 25 years of their lives, and manages to connect with disheartened women, unrealized dreamers, and the people that society has forgotten about. Game holds no punches or tears back about the life not only he lives, but the life all kids who grow up in Compton or any urban hood or disenfrachised home had to endure. Instead of trying to glorify a fictious gangster life that most rappers only know about through movies or word of mouth, Game puts a spotlight on the life of kids who grow up in the hood and more importantly the streets of Compton, forcing us to ask ourselves is this really a life that we want for our children, for our future? Did we forget about this life when we forgot about Dr. Dre? As the cycle of Hip Hop went from East to South to Midwest, the extremely painful reality begin to wash away with pimps, luxuries, dancing, and women. Like Tupac, Game doesn't talk about what he sees he talks about what he knows. After the attempt on his life and his dreams of becoming a basketball star unrealized, Game tapped into the artistic and creative genuis that lies within us all. And although he says that he started studying all the greats of Hip Hop while recovering from the ambush, a man this poetic had a creative force that was always within, but just simply needed to be tapped. After a year of gaining buzz on the underground of California and working with an independent underground force. Fate stepped into Game’s life when Dr. Dre got handed the natives demo. After hearing his demo it's then that Dr. Dre realized that he had come full circle in the Game.
The Documentary is a classic for 3 reasons: Dr. Dre, perfect timing, and Game's undeniable artistic skills. Each song screams classic even the intro encourages us to understand the concept of economic advancement for the West Coast by playing the GAME, and the West Coast is definitely back and playing. Westside Story vividly places us into a California anthem and it reminds us that the West was restless, with hardcore street beats, you can't help but visualize Compton. Dreams is a universal song not because we all have them, but because each one of us are driven by our dreams, and Game taps into that. For those that think that he is just one dimmensional talking about "Gangster Rap", Martin Luther King Jr and Hughey Newton would've been happy to know that each of their dreams for social change was remembered by this generation. Hate it or Love it doesnt apologize for their reality, hate it or love it that's the life they chose, because of the cards that were dealt. Start From Scratch makes anyone who has tear ducts cry. This song pulls on every heartstring in the world. I am sure you get the point that this CD is in autorepeat and in every car. And it's not just because it's the West Coast it's because everyone has their own documentary.
Game shows he is not just a soldier, but a general by creating and being the CEO of *THE BLACKWALLSTREET*. Game plans on using this corporation not only for music but for all sorts of endeavors to give back to Compton and the place that gave life to him and his family and friends. Big FASE is the COO of the company the blackwallstreet, some calling him the Keyser Soze of the neighborhood, he is a quiet, brilliant strategic thinker, and gives Game a strong family foundation.. Game is set to win, because within their organization they are not only long time friends but they have brilliant minds like "The Negotiator" Phat Rat, Internet Specialist G-ride, Deal Maker D -Mack, Baron Davis (NBA sports) and countless others by his side. You won't know who is who some maybe dressed like gangsters, some with business suits who can speak 2-3 languages, but all of them having a skill that is unbelievable. Game has set the foundation by intelligent strategic planning, with bringing in proven leaders from outside his circle like Shemia Miller, dubbed as the Global International Business Consultant, having allies all over the world. The only unfortunate member not present about this movement is his longtime best friend Billboard. He was murdered before Game released his album and finally put his stamp on hip hop. He was lost to the streets like countless others due to gang violence, Game and The Black Wall Street will continue to carry his legacy. Unfortunately he will not be able to physically see how far Game has come and the others who grew up in his troubled town did, but his family will be able to benefit. The Blackwallstreet is set to do what the original Black Wall Street in Oklahoma was going to accomplish, because the leaders in the company are not apologizing for taking over. They have "warriors" some have brief cases, and some are said to have guns in those brief cases, but they aren't letting anyone penetrate and stop The Game, and the expansion of The Black Wall Street. They live for everything and die for nothing. That's their motto. Game, Big Fase, Phatrat, and The Black Wall Street are keeping everything family by having its base actually be on the block in Compton where his brother and others grew up. With his determination and creation of this organization, Game shows us its not the cards life deals you that matters, it's how you play the game. Now Game is poised to be the New Nigga Witta Attitude, perhaps he will do what Dr. Dre did when he found game; give back to the west coast and Compton. Like Dr. Dre, Game is poised to come back full circle.

Brooke Valentine - January 21, 2005 By : SGV

Room Service is proud to present "Crunk n' B's" latest sensation, Brooke Valentine. Brooke's album, Chain Letter, will be released on March 15th on Virgin Records. "Girlfight" is the album's first single and features production by Lil' Jon and an appearance by Big Boi of Outkast. Ol' Dirty Bastard (R.I.P.) appears on the track, "Blah Blah Blah," also.
A native of Houston, Texas, Brooke Valentine ups the ante for creative expression with her Subliminal Entertainment/Virgin Records debut disc Chain Letter. A melodic pilgrimage through the perils and joys of a young female life, Chain Letter is refreshingly skimpy on gimmicks and ample on innovation. Valentine's diverse musical tastes create the album's universal pulse by serving a delectable stir-fry of R&B, pop, alternative and rock – offering something for all music lovers. Only 19 years of age, she explores the kaleidoscope of human emotions – the good, bad and sometimes downright ugly.
Unlike many new artists, Valentine co-wrote her entire album in just four months with her executive producer Deja, CEO of Subliminal Entertainment, an independent label and production company. Because of their around-the-clock work ethic, they were very selective when recruiting their dream team of producers. "It was important that this album was an accurate reflection of me,” she explains. “We worked with producers who didn't try to change that." Deja reached out to the industry's producing elite and before he knew it the collaborations developed with the speed of a real chain letter, with several producers and artists wanting to be involved with the project. Chain Letter’s production henchmen included Soul Diggas (Destiny's Child, Missy Elliott), Heatmakers (Diplomats, Lil' Flip), BloodShy (Britney Spears, Christina Milian), Bink (Jay-Z) and Tricky (Britney, TLC).

New Kurupt Single "Stalkin" [Audio] - January 21, 2005 By : Nima

A new song by Kurupt Young Gotti has leaked to the internet. It is rumoured to be the first single from the album "Against The Grain", and he's definitely going against the grain with this one! The beat is on some off the wall type of shit, I highly disliked it at first but after 2-3 listens I started really feeling it.
Kurupt flows well over the track, I haven't totally made up my mind wether I'm feeling it or not yet, I'll keep bumping it though. I advise you to do the same, since I have the song up for ya'll to download.

Ruff Ryders talk about the "Piggy Bank" song. - January 21, 2005 By : Yash
Styles P and Jadakiss were on hot97 and when asked about the 50 Cent unreleased song "Piggy Bank" (where 50 supposedly goes after the Ruff Ryders, Nas etc), Styles P and Jadakiss gave the impression that they don't want no beef with 50 Cent thinking that it could hurt their careers. They told Funk Flex that they got on the Ja Rule song "New York" to get money and it was strictly business not knowing 50 would trip of them getting on a song with Ja.

Ray Luv Interview From 1992 Up Now!!!! - January 20, 2005 By : Nima

This is the first of our upcoming series of unreleased old school interviews brought to you courtesy of the amazing writer Adisa Banjoko. Pomona City Ridaz Video Interview Up Now! - January 20, 2005 By : Nima

It's showtime! The promised Pomona City Ridaz interview, well it's more on some Mini-Movie type shit, is up now for ya'll to download! Running time is 35 minutes, ride with the Ridaz through Pomona and Hollywood, hear exclusuves verses from their new album and the deal with True Crime, True Crime Vol.2, their new album "Transfer Of Power", and much more. We were all pretty drunk/high that night, so it's really hilarious to watch, see Pimpin' Young live in action with his hoes, Ha Loco clownin' when the security guard comes to tell us the cops are on their way, opening a mini-bar in Pimpin' trunk, and so much more. It was one of them nights, smoking kush and clowning.
Check it all out in our 60mb video file, the first few seconds are real dark but it's fixed after that.
