news Sam Sneed "Street Scholars" Album Cover + Info - By : Chad - November 29, 2010

After nearly 14 years, the long-awaited Death Row Records album by one-time Dr. Dre protégé Sam Sneed is finally being released. WIDEawake Entertainment Group Inc., the company who purchased the Death Row Records catalog, is releasing Sneed’s Street Schoalrs project on January 25th, 2011 through E1 Entertainment.

Dubcnn was just given the album artowrk, created by Urbanista Graphix, as well as a few additional bits of info about the upcoming release.

Sam Sneed became well-known for his catchphrase “My name is Sam Sneed, you better recognize!", which originally appeared in the song “Pump, Pump” off the Snoop Doggy Dogg debut album, Doggystyle. He also appeared in the Death Row movie, Murder Was the Case, which also spawned Sam Sneed’s “U Better Recognize” single, featuring Dr. Dre, included in the movie’s soundtrack. The soundtrack single peaked at #16 on the Billboard Hot Dance Music/Maxi-Singles Sales chart, #18 on the Hot Rap Tracks chart and #48 on the Hot R&B/Hip-Hop Singles & Tracks chart.

Sam Sneed also co-produced “Keep Their Heads Ringin'” and “Natural Born Killaz” with Dr. Dre. The original, alternate version "Natural Born Killaz" with Sam Sneed rapping a verse was released on the Ultimate Death Row Collection on November 24, 2009.

Following his time on Death Row, after surviving a brain tumor, Sam Sneed has produced for Jay-Z (“Anything”), G-Unit (“I Smell Pussy”), Scarface (”Fuck’n With Face”), and others like Capne-N-Noreaga, Beanie Sigel and former Posion Clan emcee JT Money.

John Payne, of WIDEawake/Death Row Records, had this to say, "Sam has stayed true to the game. His production was brilliant back in the nineties; he has somehow managed to improve and take his brilliance to another level! This collection of music is completely put together by Sam and his team. Sam reached into the vault and pulled out some heat from his Death Row days and added some new fire from an arsenal of recently completed tracks. All tracks have been produced, mixed and conceptualized by SAM SNEED, to quote Sam, 'U BETTER RECOGNIZE!'

Street Scholars will feature "U Better Recognize", "Lady Heroine", "Goin’ Hollywood", "Drug Related", as well as 10 brand-new tracks that Sam Sneed has recorded for the project. The project is set to feature Dr. Dre, Nu Starz Entertainment (Sneed's new group of talent), J. Flexx and others.

news DUBCNN TV: Exclusive Interview: Slim The Mobster Part 1 - By : Jose - November 22, 2010

Pulling up to a million dollar mansion in an innocuous but wealthy neighborhood, I double checked the address to make sure it was correct... it was.

Two wrought iron gates stood in front of me and a bevy of security cameras and an intercom flanked my car. I dialed the button and the gates ominously opened. Boisterous and charismatic, Slim walked out and greeted me. "What up cuz. Not too many people make it behind these doors."

We walked inside his house and he sat down, offering me a drink. The phone rang and I heard an eerily familiar voice, "What up." "What's good unc?". "I'm leaving Detroit and back in town this week. Let's link up." "Fasho". Slim calmly hung up the phone and looked at me, "That was Dre. Detox is done".

Shrouded in mystery, Slim the Mobster is the next protege of a man who needs no introduction whatsoever. Having written over 70% of Detox and the latest single, "Kush" he is next on deck after the long awaited Detox drops this year. Preferring to keep a low profile, we had the rare opportunity to sit down with him for one of the most in depth interviews he has given in his career. Below is part one of that interview.

news Kendrick Lamar Catches Dr. Dre's Ear; Drops New Track - By : Rud - November 21, 2010

History repeating itself? Lets hope so! Years ago Dubcnn broke Bishop Lamont online to the world and thanks to his grind and persistance Bishop caught the ear of Dr. Dre and he told the world of his interest on Big Boy's Neighborhood on Power 106 and the rest is history!

This week, when he premiered Kush featuring Snoop Dogg & Akon on the show, Dr. Dre name dropped Top Dawg Ent artist and Black Hippy Kendrick Lamar as an artist he admires and is about to meet and work with! Well as you all know Kendrick Lamar formally known as K.Dot is the Compton spitter we have been supporting since he emerged!

Our first update was way back in May 2007 and since then we have dropped countless tracks, mixtapes and updates about him under both the K.Dot and Kendrick Lamar monikers.

This week, following the release of Kush and the name drop on radio, Kendrick Lamar released a new track entitled "Look Out For Detox" where he showcases the talent and flow that first caught our ears as K.Dot. Check it out below!

news "Hip-Hop Weekly Reloaded" - Clip Empty, Finale - By : Rud - November 21, 2010

Crooked I slipped on a release for this weeks Hip Hop Weekly Reloaded and rumors were rife that he wasnt set to drop one - well good news is he did! The bad news is, it signals the end of the series after a mere 15 weeks. Crook tells you why on the intro; "Too many indians running around in this weekly series shit...and i'm the god damn chief!"

From our point of view its hugely dissapointing but much respect to Crook for delivering regular music for the past fourteen back to back weeks, few artists take the time to cater to fans in that way and appreciation has to be shown to Crook and his team behind them.

If you missed any you can download all the tracks including Mass Appeal, Bang Yo City, Light Up, If It Ain't About Money, Talkin To Myself, Medicine Blood On The Wall, Never Been, Paradise, Boardwalk Empire / Hello, the Joell Ortiz featured Hard In The Paint, Hot Tottie, Black & Yellow and California Love Remix 2011 with K-Young courtest of Dubcnn.

No suprising that this week Crook takes the Detox single Kush featuring Snoop Dogg & Akon to spit his finale over this week. He's joined by Horse Shoe G.A.N.G, Sauce Da Boss and Coniyac and the track can be heard below.

Crooked I - Kush (Feat. Horse Shoe G.A.N.G, Sauce Da Boss & Coniyac)

As its now the end we will soon release the definitive Hip Hop Weekly Reloaded archive page available on Dubcnn to mirror the first Hip Hop Weekly page, keep checking back!

news Dr. Dre: "Yes Detox Is Coming" + Video, Tentative Date - By : Rud - November 20, 2010

No one was expecting it, rumours were rife - but this is "Detox" so when arent they - and then BOOM, Monday came and it was here, the lead single from the long awaited "Detox" L; Kush featuring Snoop Dogg & Akon. Early thoughts that the track featured old Nate Dogg vocals were quashed on Dubcnn thanks to Slim The Mobster who confirmed the additional vocals belong to singer Chief Thunderbird aka Sly.

Since then the single has had the internet on fire and the long dormant DrDre.com was updated with the Kush Page with links to get it officially on iTunes once again re-encforcing that this is it rather than the Under Pressure leak with Jay-Z back in June. If you haven't yet, ensure you download Kush today.

The image in the update today is an exclusive picture that was taken by Willie T of Good Times Media on the set of the "KUSH" music video that took place this week. PeepsEnt were on the set and this footage from Behind The Scenes has just leaked that features shots from the shoot as well as artists inclduing 50 Cent, E-40, The Menace, Roccett and G Malone.

Dr. Dre - Kush Unofficial Behind The Scenes (Video)

XXL Magazine also revealed the cover of their December/January 2011 Issue which hits news stands on December 14th and who else but the Mighty D-R-E graces to cover to categorically state "Yes Detox Is Coming." This hightens belief that - assuming the album is complete and being mixed - then the album will see the light of day in February 2011. To see the cover click here.

news Buff 1 and DJ Rhettmatic Ready Crown Royale Album - By : Rud - November 19, 2010

Crown Royale the group which pairs veteran Michigan emcee Buff1 with World Famous Beat Junkie DJ Rhettmatic made perfect sense from the start. The brainchild of DJ Haircut (aka Mayer Hawthorne) and A-Side Worldwide’s own Jackson Perry, the pairing came to fruition after they were approached with an idea and discovered there was a mutual respect and admiration for each other’s work.

Rhettmatic, a forefather of today‘s burgeoning LA hip-hop scene, is a founding member of the Beat Junkie DJ crew, the DJ for hip-hop group The Visionaries and has appeared on Dubcnn countless times.

Back in September Snoop Dogg dared fans to dream with the mention of a new album under the long expected titled "Doggystyle 2" [see Snoop Dogg Announces New Solo LP - Doggystyle 2?].

That was swiftly followed at the end of last month with a brand new Snoop Dogg single New Year's Eve featuring Marty James and produced by Scoop DeVille that was said to be from the album.

Today news has been released from Priority Records/EMI that Snoop will release an album in March 2011 - but not "Doggystyle 2."

His 11th studio album is to be titled "Doggumentary Music" with the idea being that Snoop will "doggument" the recording process online via his social networking platforms and go live on Ustream at particular moments up until the album is released.

These live sessions will give fans a peek into the making of the album from studio sessions, exclusive tracks from the album or interviews with key producers giving an insight into the making of the album.

"I have been in the game for so long and still have the same passion I did when I first started. I want my fans to ride with me on this one and know that I am so focused on bringing good music to them. It’s called Doggumentary Music because this is my life and I want to share my music, and my process of making it, with the fans," explains Snoop Dogg.

news Bay Area's Berner Readies "The White Album" (Audio) - By : Nima - November 10, 2010

Riding high off the success of his recent pair of kinky music videos casting porn diva Kelly Divine, Berner is leaking two new tracks from his forthcoming effort, The White Album, which features guest appearances from Killer Mike, The Jacka, Messy Marv, Cozmo, Lee Majors, San Quinn, Young Noble & more.

On the two preview tracks we have for you today, “Car full of Killers” and “Rubberband Stacks,” Berner moves from the glossy porn settings and gets back to the street with a grittier sound.

Car Full of Killers” is a tumultuous tale of constant beefs and the never-ending cycle of incarceration among Berner’s close friends and family. In this bleak narrative, greed keeps Berner and everyone around him stuck in a lifestyle they can’t seem to escape.

“Rubberband stacks” mixes in a classic sample from Earl Klugh brought back to life by Cozmo who Berner credits as “one of the hottest upcoming producers.” Slow and smooth, this track features verses from Yukmouth and Young Noble of Outlawz.

Though the release date is still pending, The White Album is building quite a buzz on hip-hop blogs and YouTube, due in part to Berner’s latest string of steamy music videos and recent video blog with Wiz Khalifa on the Waken Baken tour.

Kim, the notorious former mistress of her married lover known as “Big Poppa”, struggles to emulate the challenging vocal pattern Kandi demonstrates and blames it on the track, saying she’s just “not feeling it,” which ultimately spurred a cat fight between the wanna-be pop star and the Grammy award-winning songwriter, producer and singer, Kandi Burruss.

news P.S.D Tha Drivah, Keak Da Sneak & Messy Marv Return - By : Rud - November 8, 2010

The Bay Area super group consisting of P.S.D Tha Drivah, Keak Da Sneak & Messy Marv are back by popular demand! These 3 Bay Area rap legends are set to release the follow album to their "Da Bidness" which took the streets by storm and impacted the Billboard charts in 2007.

"Da Bidness Part II" is scheduled for release next month and features a stellar track listing with appearances by from E-40, Baby Bash, Husalah, The Hoodstarz and hit R&B group Jagged Edge.

Following the success of their first album, the groups anchor, P.S.D., began planning for it's follow up. Right as he was finishing up recording, P.S.D. was arrested and charged with Federal Drug Charges. Currently P.S.D is in jail and awaiting trial for alleged charges of "intent to sell." While waiting, he coordinated the completion of the new album with Keak Da Sneak and Messy Marv coming to his aide.

Will Bronson, COO of SMC Recordings told us; "Despite going through everything P.S.D. is enduring right now he was able to deliver another great album. Coordinating a group project made up of Bay Area titans such as these three is a hell of an accomplishment, let alone doing it while in jail."

news Ice-T Inks Deal For Original Gangster XO Brandy - By : Chad - November 7, 2010

AllHipHop.com is reporting that West Coast Hip-Hop veteran/TV star Ice-T is expanding his business portfolio with a strategic partnership with Aiko Importers and Pay Up Management to promote and distribute a new line of liquor named Original Gangster XO Brandy.

OG XO Brandy is produced in France and handcrafted in small batches, created with a blend from "exceptional vineyards" to ensure a distinctive flavor.

Representatives for Aiko Importers reached out to Ice-T's manager Mickey Bentson a year ago, who happened to be looking for an alcohol brand Ice-T could really get behind.

"Ice-T sat down with me and I told him, 'you have to see the presentation.' He loved the taste and the bottle. At the direction of Ice-T, I also told them we didn't want money, we wanted a partnership," Ice-T's manager Mickey Bentson told AllHipHop.com.

"Ice decided it would be best to have partnership in the business so we can build other brands. The bottles are great and the liquor is fantastic," added Bentson, who also owns Pay Up Records, a label that recently inked a major deal with Empire Distribution and signed artist Mr L.O.C. (Bay Area), Devon-P & TJ (UK) and Half Lip (PA).

"Coco will end up with her drink as well, and I will end up with mine. We think long term. We are building other brands within this company," Mickey Bentson told AllHipHop.com.

OG XO Brandy, which was founded in 2004 near Mount Pleasant, South Carolina, is currently available in select markets in the United States, including Boston, Dallas, Houston, Los Angeles, New York and Chicago.

news Young De aka Demrick "DE Is For DEMRICK" Mixtape - By : Rud - November 4, 2010

If there was one artist that everyone at Dubcnn could say has been a pleasure to watch grow and improve since his introduction way back in February 2007 with the introduction to Tangled Thoughts has been Young De.

Since that update Young De, who now officially goes by his government name Demrick, has shown he is one of a kind. The success of From Philly To Cali with the group Tangled Thoughts led them on to back to back releases on Dubcnn with T.H.O. (Tha Free Mixtape) and Every Hoods The Same.

Over the years that followed De took steps as a solo artist and formed relationships with Cypress Hill's own B-Real who made him a part of his Audio Hustlaz imprint, Xzibit who took him on tour around the world and Damizza backed his first mixtape the acclaimed Audio Hustlaz Volume 1.

This growth and evolution led to the name change to Demrick and this year he has dropped the single Can't Hold Back under the new moniker as well as announcing an EP with super producer Scoop DeVille and a Serial Killaz project alongside of Xzibit and B-Real - something you can see in our unreleased interview from earlier this year.

Today we are back with another new mixtape for free download from Demrick that sees him team up with DJ Fingaz and OnSmash to iron out that "DE Is For DEMRICK." Xzibit, Scoop DeVille, B-Real, Ras Kass and more lend a hand and once again solidify DE as one to continue to watch. Download "DE Is For DEMRICK" below!

news Erk Tha Jerk Readies Nerd's Eye View For 11/9 - By : Rud - November 3, 2010

Bay Area rapper Erk Tha Jerk - aka the self proclaimed "hood nerd" - has been on Dubcnn countless times over recent years with tracks with Balance and others but it was January 2009 when we focused on him as a solo artist with the release of his Plane In The Air record featuring Too Short and then its video in June of that year.

Almost a year later, in August this year, we announced the release of his debut album "Nerd's Eye View" with a short commercial entitled Summer (Preview). The video portrayed the life of an emcee in an honest and unique light. Nothing fancy, no girls or expensive alcohol just a day in the life of a busy emcee.

In that same update we dropped the video for the first single from the album Right Here, the self-produced melody and synth-filled sex anthem that has gone on to be one of the most played songs on Bay Area powerhouse radio station 106 KMEL in the past year; the song subsequently broke into Billboard Magazine’s Hot 100 R&B/Hip-Hop chart, has been added to rotation on MTV Jams, and amassed hundreds of thousands of views on YouTube, asserting Erk as a force to be reckoned with both in the cipher and on the radio.

Today we can tell you that "Nerd's Eye View" drops next week on November 9th as a joint venture between Bay Area staple SMC Recordings and Erk's own label Red Planet Music Group.

Crafting the album over a two and a half year period, Erk released a handful of mixtapes and EP's during that time – but was in no hurry to rush out lackluster product. "Long nights, weed, and honesty is my formula. I just tried to zone out and capture moments. I didn't want to make 'party' music or 'goon' music. I wanted to capture what I felt at the specific moment in time."

The result? A 13-track album on which Erk produced six songs - Traxamillion, Bedrock, and The Invasion handle the rest - finds Erk discussing the failed relationship with the mother of his child, while attempting to explain the situation to his young daughter ("How Do You Love Me") with the same ease, maturity, and lyrical clarity as making braggadocios boasts ("Can't Stop Now").

With "Nerd’s Eye View," Erk, who will be featured in XXL Magazine's upcoming Show & Prove section, shows great range; Erk has spent time in higher education, holding down 9-to-5's, holding down corners, and the multitude and variety of those experiences are reflected throughout the album. "I wanted the title to be clever yet familiar enough for people to relate to. The concept was 'music from my point of view;' not nerd as in 'I know how to do math well,' but nerd as in 'not part of the in-crowd'."

We have another track that will be on the album "I Know" for you to check out below

Erk Tha Jerk - I Know

Enjoy and make sure you pick up "Nerd's Eye View" when it drops on November 9th.

news Young Maestro "See Me Girl" Audio Update - By : Rud - November 1, 2010

Last week Jose dropped an update on Young Maestro, the LA artist who in 18 months has gone from being a local producer to one of the industry's major producer/writers and now a solo artist, that featured his new video See Me Girl featuring TY$. Having introduced himself in 2008 with his production debut on the documentary soundtrack “East Side II Dangerous” where he sharpened his skills working with such local acts as The Young Hoggz and The Stik Up Kidz he has, in just a few short years, worked with notable artists including The Game, Glasses Malone, Big Syke, Guerilla Black, Cali Swag District and Nipsey Hussle.

Earlier this year Young Maestro released his third smash hit "Bouncin In The Club," on the heels of his previously well received releases "Earthquake" and "Reject" via West Coast Knockin’ Records.

Under the assistance of Shawn “Tubby” Holiday (Interscope Records), Kevin Black (U Can Fly), Doc Holiday (Making the Band) and DJ Latin Prince (Bum Squad DJ Founder), Young Maestro has continued to garner success and grow his fan base from his not so distant days of being a local producer with over 2.5 million hits on his myspace.

In April 2010 Young Maestro release his first mix tape entitled "Hip-Hop Savior, Vol.1" hosted by DJ Wizz Kidd which built a tremendous underground buzz leading him to release his latest commercial success, "See Me Girl" featuring Ty Dolla$ - the video to which was in that last update.

The response to the post for Young Maestro was overwhelming and as such we are back with the audio for ""See Me Girl" which can be heard below!
