news Jayo Felony, Tek Nizzle, 40 Glocc & Baby Down "Take A Ride" - By : Nima - June 21, 2007

We can't go a day without bringing you some world exclusive music! The track we're bringing you today is real special, as it represents the connection between Cali and Philly. A new crew was recently formed, consisting of Jayo Felony, 40 Glocc, Baby Down and Baby Scar from the West, and Tek Nizzle and AK from Philly.

Anybody who heard the Tangled Thoughts "Philly 2 Cali" album already knows about their rhyming skills, and Tek's extraordinary production capabilities. There is no need to mention who Jayo Felony and 40 Glocc are, and Baby Down from L.A. and Baby Scar from Skyline, San Diego are some young fire spitters.

The first track they did is called "Take A Ride" and features Jayo Felony, Tek Nizzle, 40 Glocc and Baby Down. They're a crew, but not everybody has to be featured on every track for it to work, kind of like how the Wu-Tang works. The vintage West Coast beat is a Tek Nizzle production, make sure to download the song below:

Da Bidness - Take A Ride (Jayo Felony, Tek Nizzle, Baby Down & 40 Glocc)

I don't think that anybody that heard this track needs me to tell them to look out for more music from Da Bidness, the music is self explanatory. We briefly caught up with Jayo and Tek to speak about the project:

"Da Bidness is a mixture of the best of the west, as well as Philly all in one group. It's gonna be west coast tracks and you hear that Philly accent and that west coast shit together it's like something new. We sound good as fuck together", Jayo said about the crew.

Tek went on to explain "We droppin' tha mixtape real soon. Jayo's been goin' hard tryna put this thing togetha so we goin' just as hard. From the first record we did togetha we knew we had to do a group project. Jayo's a vet, but still as hungry as ever. AK is my evil twin. He's a monster! Baby Down & Baby Scar are young west coast gunners. I'm feelin' what they bring to tha table stylistically. And 40 Glocc's involved with the project as well, so u already know what it is."

Sounds like a promising project, let's hope something actually comes out of this, because I know a lot of you are like "new groups are being formed every day on the West, but nothing comes out!" If this first track is anything to go by, Da Bidness have a lot of potential and should bring us some great music! Keep it locked right here on dubcnn for more news soon.

news Spyda Speaks On The Ball 4 Real Tour - By : Eddie Gurrola - June 14, 2007

The Ball 4 Real Streetball Tour is in full swing, hitting major cities across the United States all summer long. We recently had the chance to speak with one of the ballers on the tour, Spyda, and he filled us in on everything you need to know about the most exciting streetball event in recent memory.

Spyda was born in Inglewood, California, and raised in Atlanta, Georgia. He played with And 1 for 5 years, and then played in the ABA for three years as well. “You know, it’s just off and on streetball and professional game,” he says of his career. He was also featured on the ESPN reality series “Streetball” from 2004-2006, along with many other players currently on the tour. “The ESPN “Streetball” show was great. It helped me promote myself, and showcase my talent, and I want to say ‘thanks a lot!’”

The Ball 4 Real company is owned by the players themselves, which allows for complete freedom amongst the team to decide on how the tour plays out. When asked about his goal for the tour, Spyda said, “We plan on taking Ball 4 Real all the way to the top. We’re letting everybody know we’re the best ballers in the world, [and] we’re owners of our own company, so we’re [just] not basketball players – we’re businessmen.” The course of action is “basically going in and out of [the] cities and shutting it down, and letting everyone know that Ball 4 Real is here.”

The streetballers know that it’s important to give back to the fans, and they are doing just that, with a huge cash prize giveaway at the end of the tour. “We’re giving away $100,000 to a contest winner in [Madison Square] Garden on the August 25th. $100,000? I think nobody wants to pass that up!” The players are also giving back to the community by stopping at local outreach centers in every single city they play at. “We’re giving back to every city we go to. It’s not a must, and what we have to do - it’s what we want to do. That’s where we came from, so we’re just giving back.”

The Ball 4 Real Tour promises plenty of hip-hop flavor, with a DJ spinning tracks throughout the course of the game. Spyda is a big fan of hip-hop, citing Snoop Dogg and 50 Cent as his favorite artists. DJ Quik and AMG, collectively known as The Fixxers, have hopped on the tour for the California dates, and Spyda was excited by their presence. “It’s great to see DJ Quik [and AMG on the tour.] They’ve been showcasing their talent forever, and [they] will always be around in the rap game.”

Spyda promises to “keep it rolling and shut it down, and let everybody know ‘Spyda does what Spyda do.’ Our game is fantastic, it’s fast breaking, [and] it’s a lot of moves. It’s entertainment from the jump off, all the way to [when] the zero hits the clock in the second half.”

With an exciting basketball game, and a performance from two of the West Coast’s finest, the Ball 4 Real Tour is a safe bet for a great night out. “I just want everybody to come out and check the Ball4Real [tour.] Go to Ball4Real.com and just check it out. Don’t forget, we’re coming to a city near you!”

Go check out the Ball 4 Real Tour on June 15th at the Oracle Arena in Oakland, and on June 16th at the Home Depot Center in Los Angeles. The Fixxers will be performing at those dates as well. Go to Ball4Real.com for more information, and check back later in the week when we bring you a new video interview with Quik and AMG, and another special surprise involving The Fixxers and this tour, right here on Dubcnn!

news Common "Finding Forever", Released on July 31 - By : JustinL - June 13, 2007

Multi-faceted Hip-Hop superstar Common is prepping his highly anticipated seventh album, Finding Forever, for a July 31st release on G.O.O.D Music/Geffen Records. The album is the follow up to the four times Grammy nominated, critically heralded and Kanye West produced Be, which spawned hits including "The Corner," "Go," and "Testify."

Finding Forever, finds Kanye again taking the bulk of production work with help from Will.I.Am on the sultry "I Want You," the late great J. Dilla on "So Far To Go," featuring a surprise guest appearance by D'Angelo and G.O.O.D Music producer Devo Springsteen on "Misunderstood."

On Finding Forever, Common, rips the mic like a hungry newcomer. The street single "The Game" produced by Kanye with scratches by the legendary DJ Premier is a horn drenched, vintage NY rap boom-bap banger from the Chi-town emcee, no less (check video out at www.common-music.com/media). The resounding lead single "The People" finds Common lyrically asserting why and who he creates his music for over regal strings, delectable keys and hard to get vocals by Gil Scott Heron. The video for "The People" will be in shot in by Neon in NYC on Saturday, June 9th.

Since 1992 the Chicago native and Source Unsigned Hype alum has built an unparalleled catalog of progressive Hip-Hop music. From his first release of Can I Borrow a Dollar to his ground-breaking release of Resurrection to his most recent release of Be, the media has poured in the compliments: XXL magazine gave Be a rare XXL rating in there magazine, Rolling Stone said Resurrection was a "confluence of phat beats, smooth flows, and dope rhymes, and Interview magazine noted that on Like Water for Chocolate "with piercing intellect and poignant lyrics, Common may be the most skilled rapper."

Always a Hip-Hop renaissance man of wide ranging tastes, though music remains Common's first love, he has expanded his career beyond just beats and rhymes. He has commenced a successful acting career, landing roles in Smokin' Aces alongside Entourage's Jeremy Piven and in the upcoming American Gangster with Russell Crowe and Denzel Washington and Wanted with Angelina Jolie and Morgan Freeman. Besides sharpening his acting chops, in early 2007, the always fashionable Common, launched a line of hand made Italian hats called Soji, available exclusively at La Coppola Storta stores in Palermo, Roma, Firenze, Bologna, and New York City.

Common recently graced the covers of Billboard, Uptown, and Ebony magazines and performed at Central Park's Summerstage Benefit Concert alongside Joss Stone on June 8th.

news New Review: Convinced - "I Do It For The People" - By : LilJay - June 12, 2007

As you already know, not only do we review established mainstream artists, but also up and coming rappers that we believe in. One of them is Los Angeles based emcee Convinced, who we introduced you to with his album "I Do It For The People". As the title implies, the project is strictly for the people and available free of charge. If you missed the article on the release back in April, you can go back and grab it here.

And if you can't decide (there's no reason for that as it's available for free download, but just in case), read the review written by Dubcnn's Music Editor, Conan Milne, and you'll be convinced.

"I Do It For The People" receives the Dub Quotable: "Incorporating a generous dose of honesty and humour into his innovative music, this young man seems intent on breaking the stereotypical image of the unapproachable 'gangsta' rapper".

Convinced - I Do It For The People (Review)

In conjunction with the review, we also have an exclusive sneak preview of Con's upcoming album "The First Impression", which is due out this summer. The track right here is called "High Ambitions" and it's another piece of proof why he's one of the brightest (and ambitious) new talents to emerge from the West Coast in a while.

news Introducing Compton's Young Dumm - By : LilJay - June 12, 2007

One might expect an up and coming rapper to capitalize off the attempt on his life, but Young Dumm wants his message to be clear "There's no amount of money that will bring you back from death". He continues, "I wasn't in a coma and I didn't walk out of the hospital. I rolled out of there in a wheelchair thanking God I was still alive". The product of an unstable home and gang culture in Compton California makes him a man of the streets, intimately familiar with its codes and its violence.

Young Dumm refuses to let these life etrocities hinder him and wants you to get his story straight from the horses mouth in a fourthcoming DVD, titled State Raised. "I'm an entrepreneur by definition. Whether it be a full featured album or a DVD, I'm a walking opportunity. Right now i'm just trying to organize resources to help take advantage of the opportunity".

For those expecting to be pulled into a fabricated world of drug deals gone bad, fictionalized characters, and the lifestyles of Tony Montanna should be forwarned. Young Dumm wants you to party and have a good time hence his popular song, "West Coast Margarita" where he introduces a new drink in his smooth melodic Compton dialect over a Lil Rob beat. "I'm not here to justify my Gangsterism. I have nothing to prove. I'm not trying to get in this game and go ass out backwards by catching cases and gaining more enemies than I already have. Exploiting my story is one thing but living it is another. Being able to share my music and story with the masses is a blessing."

Dubcnn is bringing you three tracks from Young Dumm. These are the aforementioned "West Coast Margarita", along with the left coast anthem "West Coast" and "All Grown Up", a track over Jay-Z's "30 Something".

news "Follow Me" Urges Skeez Of San Diego - By : Rud - June 7, 2007

San Diego has been the breeding ground of talented artists for some time now and today we have the pleasure of introducing someone who hopes to add to the ranks of MC's next to blow.

24 year old Clayton Scott commonly known as Skeez grew up in the Southeast side of San Diego, California and developed his love for Hip-Hop from an early age. From Break Dancing at the age of three to freestyling at twelve, Skeez became more and more involved in the artform, at the age of 15 he was participating in and winning various street battles - Skeez was even runner up at the Source Unsigned Hype And1 tour when it passed though San Diego.

"Many people I meet know me from battles at the Shamrock and on the beach. Taking money and hurting feelings," recalls Skeez. The notoriety he gained locally led him to a job with San Diego’s #1 Hip Hop radio station Z90, hosting parties and promotional events. In 2004 and 2005 Skeez performed at The House of Blues opening for Grammy winning Bone Thugs-N-Harmony as well as performances alongside Frankie J, Baby Bash, J-Kwon, Lil’ Jon, Pitbull and Ying Yang Twins. He was also a feature performer at Spring Break in Rosarito that same year.

With the birth of his son Hasani in 2005 and the sudden death of his mother in 2006, life’s hardships and added responsibilities refueled his desire to bring his passion, creativity and prowess to the masses. Having linked back up with childhood friend Tytanik, as well as Mike Wheelz, G.O.S., Mac Shawn and Chris Barclay they formed the collective The Enterprise which has been making noise around San Diego.

Moving into 2007 saw the buzz continue with the release of his mixtape and album sampler entitled "The Awakening" [download at DatPiff] which is set to lead up to the release of his planned debut album "Follow Me" due in the Summer. Skeez is currently on a mini promotional tour through San Diego called the No Passport Needed Tour as well as shows where he is opening for Keak Da Sneak and Too Short.

Below we have three tracks to sample from Skeez that are set to be on his debut album "Follow Me" due later in the Summer. One is the Czar Beatz produced "Do That," the albums lead single, and the hard hitting "My System" produced by Tommy Redding. The third track is "Muthaf-cka" or "Mutha Mutha" (Radio Version) that is produced by DJ Happee (Z90.3/Bumsquad DJ's).

Skeez - Do That (Produced By Czar Beats)
Skeez - My System (Produced By Tommy Redding)
Skeez - Muthaf-cka (Produced By DJ Happee)

In related news Skeez is currently in talks with Black Shield Entertainment of Atlanta regarding his management and is already in the process of working with the renowned Slip N Slide Records to be their "On the Grind" artist which will include a mixtape feature and radio play. We also just got word that DJ EFN will be hosting his next mixtape titled "619 To Da 305: The Initiation."

Stay tuned to dubcnn for the latest news and audio from Skeez, until then make sure you check him out at his official MySpace page.

news Down aka Kilo Explains "The Definition Of An Ese" [Audio] - By : Nima - June 5, 2007

All of you who have been visiting dubcnn for a few years will remember Down aka Kilo, the mexican rapper we had interviewed in 2003 for the release of his solo album "California Cowboys", which featured the West Coast's finest on it, as well as top notch beats, even though Down was not exactly the best rapper out there. The CD caused a lot of eyebrows to raise, and the homie Frank Nitty put me up on game as far as the support Down gets from his people in Mexico. Nitty, Bad Azz and others helped Down connect with the who's who on the West Coast and put together his "California Cowboys" release from 2003.

Four years later, Down is back with his new album "Definition Of An Ese". The first single "Lean Like A Cholo" has been getting a lot of airplay and building up a buzz. But don't let the poppy and watered down sound of the first single fool, Down has got some surprises on the album.

He's got a banger on there with Nate Dogg called "I'm Coming Home To You", as well as the title track to his album "Definition Of An Ese". You can download the single "Lean Like A Cholo", as well as the two songs I just mentioned below:

Down aka Kilo - Lean Like A Cholo
Down aka Kilo - I'm Coming Home To U (ft. Nate Dogg)
Down aka Kilo - Definition Of An Ese

Other features include Snoop Dogg, B-Real, Butch Cassidy, Niki Diaz, Diamonique, Fingazz and more. To order the album now, click here.

When your the youngest protégés of the original Penthouse Players Clique your certain to get noticed and its important to come out swinging. Thats exactly what the group who we are ready to premiere to the world today are doing; and they are not here to disappoint.

The Young Giantz consist of Deuce Mac and Bigg Joe West aged 22 and 20 respectively both of whom are the sons of West Coast legend Playa Hamm. The duo have been writing and recording together for some time now and are finally ready to step into the public eye and have their music heard with the backing of their father Playa Hamm.

When asked about the name Young Giantz they referred us to Webster's Collegiate Dictionary which definites a "Giant" as "a legendary being of great stature and strength, of more than mere mortal powers..." - a definition they want to impress upon you with their new single.

Being the first release from the P Suite, a company built of long standing industry veterans and experience, the Young Giantz have a wealth of expertease at their disposal. Currently working on their debut EP which is set to feature production from up-and-coming beats masters including Qluso, Boogaloo and Bokie Loc as well as established producers DJ Battlecat, Blaqthoven and I-Roc.

With the researgence of the West Coast their primary aim, they have set their stall out on the EP's lead single with intent. "Weeest!" features hard hitting, bass heavy, crisp production from Battlecat affiliate Qluso - with equally vicious lyrics and killer flows from this undeniably talented duo. "Weeest" also features Playa Hamm on the chorus and is a track that deserves attention and spins; with that in mind we have it for exclusive download below.

news "Money Is Revolution" For Inglewood's Perfecto - By : Rud - June 4, 2007

Perfecto aka The Voice of Inglewood makes his Dubcnn debut with his street album "Money Is Revolution." This talented youngster has been grinding hard for some time with his recently reformed group L.I.F.E.L.E.S.S. that consists of Columbo Black, Captain Apollo and Dead End Kid.

Together they systematically flooded the Inglewood streets with Perfecto's EP titled "The Voice of Inglewood," a move that quickly caught the attention of DJ Strong of the Cali Untouchable DJ's.

Along with DJ Strong, DJ Warrior and Inglewood's own DJ Qwess also took steps to work on this new street album. The title, "Money Is Revolution," is an ethos Perfecto and L.I.F.E.L.E.S.S. live by. When asked about this attitude Perfecto told us; "Economic empowerment is the number one struggle that we face as African-Americans. The civil rights movement was based around race, but the hip hop generation is based on money and class."

This Howard University alumnus lets the listener know that there is a fine line between fly, flashy, educated and hood; "I'm a smart muthaf-cka, so I refuse to act stupid to sell records" added Perfecto.

Fans of Multi-Syllabic lyricism, vocal samples, knowledge dropping, street anthems and swagger will all be satisfied with what "Money Is Revolution" brings to the table, with no big name features Perfecto and the Cali Untouchable DJ's have crafted another L.A. classic street album. When DJ Warrior spoke on the up and comer he told us; "Perfecto knows what to say and he knows how to say it."

Below we have the full street album tracklist as well as two exclusive tracks for free download, look below that for how you can grab yourself a copy of "Money Is Revolution" right now.

The people of Pittsburgh have been waiting some time for its first major Hip-Hop star to break onto the scene. That wait may now be over. Recently signed to Warner Bros Records, Wiz Khalifa is ready to take the next step from local hype to international stardom.

At the tender age of 18, Wiz Khalifa has already developed into the prodigy that Pittsburgh has been looking for, and he plans to represent his city to the fullest.

With a vaired cultural upbringing [his military parents reassignments saw him move between Pittsburgh, South Carolina, Georgia, Oklahoma, Germany, Japan and even England] and a maturity beyond his years, Wiz has utilised his nomadic life and vast experiences to broaden his mind and create his inspiration for his music.

His recording life started around the age of 14 and soon after his music generated a local buzz that led him to look for a studio and record label situation. Having found ID LABS and its owner Eric Dan he was soon being networked around Pittsburgh and signed with fellow Pittsburgh native, Benjy Grinberg of Rostrum Records.

With the studio facilities and the backing of several influential local people he started to take his music to the masses and has been acclaimed in a host of Print and Online media outlets. Having already record over two albums worth of material, released a debut mixtape "Prince Of The City" and even creating the theme song for the Pittsburgh Steelers Joey Porter Show - Wiz Khalifa is now signed to Warner Bros and starting work on his debut album.

We have the first track to come out of the new deal courtesy of Warner Bros Records for download below entitled "Talk To Me" which features T-Pain.

Take some time to listen to the new track and we urge DJ's, radio shows and press outlets to download the song and redistribute to continue the buzz building for an impressive new talent. Wiz Khalifa has the means and the mindset to become a force in todays musical climate and Dubcnn will be keeping you up to date on his activities this year; in the meantime you can check him out over at MySpace.

news Exclusive Video Feature With Tyrese - By : Eddie Gurrola - June 2, 2007

We’re back with another huge exclusive feature. This time, Dubcnn linked up with Tyrese, aka Black Ty, for a colossal feature that no other media outlet could pull off. We were invited to join Tyrese as he went to a photoshoot, and he was kind enough to let us capture the whole day on film. In the first part of this double feature event, Black Ty describes his experiences filming “Transformers,” which is coming to a theater near you July 3rd. He also clues us in on an important “unspoken truth” that debilitates African-American actors in the film industry.

After this, you will get a sneak peek at some of the talent on Tyrese’s record label, Headquarter Entertainment. We speak with Watts native Stix, who talks about his rock group, Life Nine, and his hosting duties at the rap battle event “The Pit” in Los Angeles. We also meet up with Curtains, a Brooklyn MC who is ready to become the next rap superstar. Watch the entire feature by clicking the link below.
