Today, Tampa based artist JG premieres his brand new music video “Birds In LA” featuring Atlanta rapper Rich The Kid. Produced by No Gen, JG doesn’t just rap about getting at girls on the percolating “Birds in LA,” but the newcomer also throws down his gauntlet to declare his residence in the hip-hop community. Directed by Miles Cable the music video set in the reflective overlook of the ominous Los Angeles skyline. The single is a first look into JG’s upcoming debut EP, 3 Feet From Gold, due out later this year on independent Field of Dreams Entertainment.

JG explains, “I want to get across that I’m in this bitch now. I’m here to stay. For this song, I’m constantly inspired by everything. Grimey bitches. Instagram hoes. Fake ass rappers. Fuck boys. Haters. My Past. My future. My son. My family. All that is motivation to me. I just want people to feel something when they hear the record. Whether they hear it and get pissed off or hear it and get hyped up, it doesn’t matter to me… as long as it elicits some type of emotion for them.”

“Rich was really cool,” JG says about collaborating with the rapper known for his popular mixtapes. JG connected with Rich the Kid and Caskey through his engineer. “He came to the studio, laid the shit down and killed it for the visual as well.”

Fans can already catch JG’s next single “My Side” on his hometown station, Tampa’s 95.7 The Beat, Power 106.1 and Orlando’s WPRK 91.5. On the breezy “My Side,” JG checks haters while remembering his come up, rapping, “It got really tough around grade 10 / When the roof of my bedroom caved in / And we ain’t really have no money saved then.” Listen to “My Side” and watch his previously released music video “Water” directed by LO Films below.

ABOUT JG
Because of a lack of originality in lyrical content and styles, it can be difficult for emerging MCs to differentiate themselves from the competition. But Tampa, Florida-bred rapper JG won’t have that problem. His narratives are more introspective than that of the average MC and immediately set him apart.

Born Joshua Geiger, the rapper signed to Field of Dreams Entertainment has amassed more than 174,000 views on Facebook for his video for his song “Water.” Over an easy, chime-laden track, he rhymes about rap dreams, relationship goals and well wishes for his parents: “I hope that mama find a way to get her hope back / I just hope father find a way to put the coke back.”

“I’m relatable to the kids who are just regular kids who maybe don’t have everything that the kids down the street have,” explains the rapper inspired by the likes of J. Cole, Kanye West and Drake. “I don’t want to be perceived as, Oh, I’m a rapper. I got to wear big ass chains. I got to rock a grill. I want to be viewed as down-to-earth, humble. I could be humble, but I’m still a dope ass MC.”

JG formed a short-lived group with some friends in high school, but took his music even more seriously during his first year in college at Tennessee State University where he attended on a football scholarship. When he received his $2500 refund check for books and supplies, he used the money to purchase Pro Tools and a microphone and began making music in his dorm room with friends.

The strong reaction to JG’s YouTube covers of Drake’s “Headlines” and Kirko Bangz’s “Drank in My Cup” fueled his pursuits. His first mixtape, “Public Relations,” a concept album about a breakup released on Valentine’s Day, received even better feedback. Simultaneously, his football career was stalling. When he dropped from the team, he put more energies into his music and released his second mixtape, “Vintage Party.”

2017 is set to be a banner year for JG as he is set to release his debut EP, 3 Feet From Gold, that features production by Taylor King, Nogen, and Cannis Major via independent Field of Dreams.

“I just want people to look and be like… Damn if he could do this, then I could too.”
