DubCNN is always looking for new talent and today we’re spotlighting Antwon King – an aspiring artist, producer and songwriter out of Los Angeles.
Born in Inglewood he discovered a record that changed his life, the iconic “Eric B. Is President.” From that day he’s been dedicated to Hip-Hop.
Having watched friends join gangs and go to jail for dealing drugs he opted to take another route with music, using his talent to initially write poetry – before developing it into music.
He cites Rakim, Nas and 2Pac as major influences and is becoming active in both his church and community has inspired his music;
“I want my music to inspire people and still make their head nod. I make soul music in every sense of the word with a hiphop twist on it. I hope my music helps at least one person and gives them inspiration to keep pushing even when times are rough. It’s a bad time for this country, the economy and people of all colors. I want to be a voice of hope….and still make you dance.”
Back in 2006 he won a Southern California Music Award for best hip-hop and was featured on MTV2s Sucka Free rapping acapella on the streets of Hollywood. Now he’s looking release an album in October titled “The Familiar Stranger” and is pushing his lead single “One Day” – a track about overcoming life’s obstacles and keeping a positive attitude toward the future.
