news Damizza Opens His Vaults For "Unreleased Album" - August 26, 2007 By : Nima

We have the official press release about Damizza's upcoming "Unreleased Tracks" project, where he is going to be putting out tracks that never came out over the years. Check out the official article below:

"Christmas is going to come early for West Coast hip-hop fans, as multi-platinum producer Damizza has agreed to open his vast unmatched vault of more than 500 unreleased songs spanning the past two decades and release previously unheard tracks featuring stars as diverse as Krayzie Bone, Nate Dogg, Mariah Carey and more.

"I've had everybody come through the studio from ˜Spiderman" Toby Maguire to Ludacris so what better way celebrate my 20-year love affair with music than by releasing songs by some of the greatest stars of our time?" Damizza says. The producer explains that, until now, he's been so busy working on new material with Butch Cassidy and emerging artists signed to his Baby Ree label that he simply hasn't had time to sift through the hundreds of unreleased works.

"There are volumes of new songs in there," he says, "as well as demo recordings & new material from Jennifer Love-Hewett, Roccett, Macy Gray, Ray J & Nate Dogg, it's really amazing. I surprised myself at the quantity and quality of music. We've just been producing so much material that gems just end up being forgotten. It's an amazing body of work and I feel it needs to be out there for fans."

"Damizza Presents: Unreleased Volume 1" will be in stores through Baby Ree and distributed through Fontana/Universal on November 31st.

That will be followed in early 2008 by two addition volumes from Damizza's vault which the producer hints may include rare works from Bone Thuggs N Harmony, Mariah Carey, Ice Cube, Bishop Lamont, Ja Rule, Knoc-Turn'al, Fat Joe and many more chart-topping artists.

"There's just no reason for good music to just sit," Damizza says of his incredible catalogue.

news Introducing Queens MC, Reka The Saint - August 15, 2007 By : Conan Milne

As you know, DubCNN loves to break fresh Hip-Hop talents, irrespective of where they are based. With that in mind, today we'd like to introduce you to New York City's Reka The Saint. A native of Queens, Reka is a throwback to the lyrical, punchline-heavy MCs that the East Coast has been praised for producing.

While new to our site, Reka has been grinding as an artist for some time. He has already collaborated with fan favorites like Shabaam Sahdeeq, Ali Vegas, and even the legendary MC Shan.

In fact, Hip-Hop pioneer Shan will be hosting 'The Saint's' forthcoming mixtape, "Survival New York." No newcomer to the mix circuit, Reka has appeared on releases by DJs such as J-Love, DJ Absolut, and DJ L-Gee.

We have two Reka The Saint tracks available to download below. The first track is called "Betta", and sees The Saint drop some rewind-worthy bars over a strummed instrumental from producer Jo-Ski. The second, meanwhile, is a gritty, boisterous collaboration with popular NYC lyricist, Ali Vegas. Check both out below:

Reka The Saint - Betta (Audio)

Reka The Saint (Feat. Ali Vegas) - They Hate Me (Audio)

If you enjoyed the tracks, be sure to seek out a copy of Reka' street album, In The Beginning. The underground record is currently available through Illseed Ent. We'll have more on this talented MC soon, but until then check out Reka The Saint's MySpace

news 9th Wonder To Release Solo Debut In October - August 10, 2007 By : Eddie Gurrola

Producer 9th Wonder is gearing up to release his solo debut, "Dream Merchant Vol. 2" on October 9th.

When asked about the album, 9th Wonder had this to say about it: "this record means alot to me! The crazy thing is, the actualization of Dream Merchant is an idea that is six years old. My Uncle Fred has crazy records; he was an avid collector from his days in NYC back in the 70’s. Back in 1987, I went to visit him and my Aunt, they lived in the South Bronx (East 169th and Grand Concourse) and it was my first trip to NYC.

I was only there for a week when the newspapers flashed “Scott La Rock killed” (crazy right). In 1991, my Uncle and Aunt moved to Winston Salem (North Carolina) and I was working in a UPS call-center in High Point (North Carolina) and made a crazy decision to quit my job and pursue music full-time. I went to visit my Uncle Fred afterwards, because I remembered all of those records he had when I was a kid. I went downstairs and the first record I pulled out of the crate was Jerry Butler’s “Dream Merchant.” I though the title was so fly, that I decided to do a compilation album with me doing all the beats and cats I knew that rhymed. I think more then anything; fate sparked my decision to do this all the way - just from that cover and that moment."

The album features guest appearances from Mos Def, Memphis Bleek, Little Brother, and Royce Da 5'9, among many others. We've got a preview track from the album as well. The carefree song is called "Sunday," and it features Keisha Shontelle & Chaundon. Download it below.

9th Wonder - Sunday (featuring Keisha Shontelle & Chaundon)

Make sure to buy the record when it drops in October, and stay tuned to Dubcnn for the latest on 9th Wonder.

news E-Knoc Unveils "The Promise Land" For Free Download - August 8, 2007 By : Rud

It's been a little over two years since we first introduced this artist to you; July 2005 saw the Dubcnn arrival of the then named Enock. Since then the Los Angeles native has had a name change and now officially has his first street album out, available for download as part of the Dubcnn Digital Distribution Network.

E-Knoc is an artist that captures your imagination the moment you hear him, whether its over familiar beats of the original production supplied on this album from producers including Bad Seed, St. Eyes, Rhythm D and Big Moz - E-Knoc delivers for everyone - from being spiritual to down right street.

His debut street album "The Promise Land" is a 15 track project that spans so many horizons we would be hard pressed to outline them all - suffice it to say that in an age where everybody’s aspiring to be something, where every cat south of Sunset Blvd is a rapper - E-Knoc's sole aim is to "show yall how the West Coast really rocks."

Out with the khakis and in with the Evisus, E-Knoc is another prime example of the "New West" mentality that is shaking the West Coast Hip-Hop landscape. The album serves as a day in the life account of a black kid breezing through the streets of L.A. with some big dreams of his own, picking up knowledge and insight along the way. E-Knoc is truly a rare breed in today’s climate as he is a well rounded MC who actually cares about what’s coming out of his mouth.

When we asked him to sum up the "The Promise Land" E-Knoc explained; "All you guys have to do is listen to the whole thing. The tape is serious, funny, simple, complex, ignorant and educational all at the same time! [Tracks] 1-15 is a day in the life with me. Sun up to sun down til the sun comes back up. Full circle you feel me?"

All that is left for us to do now is hand over that question for you to answer. Below is the link to the Dubcnn Download page for "The Promise Land" where you can get all 15 tracks covering the entire Hip Hop spectrum. From trunk rattlers like "Bang" and "I Be," to the smoothed out melody of "Do You Mind." From the descriptive storytelling on "How I Became Me" and "Street Lights" to the consciousness of "Malcolm X" right around to the introspection of "Mind Games." "The Promise Land" ensures that E-Knoc will take his place amongst some of the brightest new talent and its safe to say it won't be long until the world takes note.

Those of you who wish to read a review of the album, check out Lord Funk's take on the The Promise Land as he awards 3.5 Dubs and the Dub Quotable; "E-Knoc is a confident MC with lyrics, flow and charisma, and this album gives him plenty of opportunities to showcase all three."

True artistic talent is rare and often overlooked in today's highly saturated music industry. It's always been a goal of Dubcnn to recognize and support artists from the West Coast and across Hip-Hop that are making noise both in the streets and in the industry.

Tha Crow, born and raised in Los Angeles, Ca has earned his spot in the finals in one of Rap's biggest contests. Tha Crow was recently named the 1st Round Winner of the SRC/Loud.com contest and awarded with $25,000.

The contest which is broken into three brackets each consisting of ten rounds sees a winner selected weekly going into a pool of ten, three of which are chosen as semi-finalists for the Finals. When all three brackets have been completed, the Top 9 semi-finalists (3 from each bracket) will compete against each other in a Finals Bracket for the $100,000 and a record deal.

When asked about the win Tha Crow was quoted as saying; "West West! This ain't just another person entering the contest in hopes of winning, this is a f*ckin' movement that's meant to happen. Rap is what I do, this is my life, there is no plan B and I've been preparing ever since I began rhyming. Writing hit songs is like breathing to me; I want to be mentioned among the greats. I'm doing this for every real n*gga out there - West Coast, East Coast, Down South, Mid West...they can't stop us if we move together."
