1103906104 - January 1, 1970 By : Project Blowed what's the code/I been rockin' mics since I was 12 years old - Aceyalone
The Project Blowed: Since 1994 The Project Blowed has been putting it down for Hip Hop. Open Mics, B-Boys, B-Girls, Good Hip Hop. Back in the late 80's there was The Goodlife Café in Leimert Park, which was an Open mic spot. No cussing was allowed and you were allowed to do one song. If you were wack, much like with the Apollo, you'd get booed. An enormous amount of people came up in the ranks there, such as Aceyalone, Kurupt, The Visionaries, Of Mexican Descent, Busdriver, Abstract Rude, Pigeon John, Dilated Peoples, among many others.
The Goodlife Cafe is something legendary in the History of L.A. Hip Hop. A few years later, it continued as the Project Blowed. Leimert Park and 43rd is the spot. Every Thursday night you can find it popping off. It's still a staple in the name of Los Angeles Hip Hop. Not only is it a weekly Open Mic, but it's also a crew. An amazing crew, at that. The members include Aceyalone & Freestyle Fellowship, Abstract Rude, 2Mex, Busdriver, C.V.E., Living Legends, Trendseta, Medusa, Hip Hop Clan, Volume 10 and many many more. Their extended family crazy, too. Dilated Peoples, Hieroglyphics, Pharcyde and Jurassic 5 to name a few, are all down with the Blowed.
So...If you're not familiar with this crew, you're about to be. Wednesday, December 29th, probably the last real dope show of 2004 and quite possibly the illest of the year is about to go down. In Celebration of the 10th Anniversary for the Project Blowed, damn near all of Los Angeles Hip Hop's best a brightest will be out to show their love. As you can see in the flyer, I posted to the left, the line up is already lookin' packed full of dope acts. The Q-Events Center in Hollywood has had some ill shows, but this might top them all. Expect lots of suprises and expect DubCNN in full effect reppin' and showin' our respect to one of the most important legacies in Hip Hop, period. Shouts to Badru, Non-Stop and the whole crew for showing DubCNN love and allowing us to be apart of this!
Be there and show the Blowed the love the deserve!

1121306699 - January 1, 1970 By : With the advent of the Saint Louis sound, the Mid-west could easily become the hottest spot for churning out rap and hip-hop music. The Mid-west artists are setting the pace, starting trends, and selling hits.
The All Stars hit the scene running with their mix tape selling successfully on the East and West coast. They show no signs of slowing down with their debut album “The Movement”. “The Movement” articulates great lyrical content and hard hitting edgy beats. Their distinctive style and hardcore realism has captured the streets. With their ultimate goal of becoming superstars who cross cultural barriers, “The Movement” has them well on their way.
Nimmy Russell (Montel Russell), Trust (DeAndre Graden), Vic Damone (Abdul Smith) and Top Dolla (Rashon Brighton) make up the All Stars. Each member brings a unique element that evokes passion and an undaunted spirit through their music. Thanks in large part to Just Black and Guccio, Chief Executive Officers of Black on Black/Quit Playing Entertainment; the All Stars are "the new voice of the streets".
Although each member is just 21 years of age, they are building an impressive fan base. Together since 2000, they have been performing throughout the United States. The group has opened for many big named multi-platinum artists such as Nelly, TrillVille, Chingy, and J-Kwon. Their club banger "So Serious" created a major buzz and excitement at their recent performance in Montego Bay, Jamaica. Furthermore, the group is spinning in ten different markets and two different regions.
Especially impressive, the All-Stars take time out for community service. They have supported a number of charitable events such as the Hollis Thomas Foundation, Dream House (benefit at-risk children), Chingy for Change, the Leukemia Foundation, and a host of other toy and food drives. Their charitable contributions speak volumes about their dedication to the community.
Their recent video for “So Serious” features cameo appearances by nationally known DJ’s, comedians, and artists. Furthermore their versatility is revealed through a weekly reality radio program in Saint Louis, Missouri.
They're currently opening up for one of the Greatest artists in Hip Hop ever, DJ Quik, on his House Of Blues Tour. Look for them in a a city near you. Speaking of legendary acts, the St. Louis All Stars have recorded with the Port Arthur, Texas native and Underground King, Bun B on a song called "Da Streetz." Here it is for you.

1137228156 - January 1, 1970 By : Bleu Collar & the Los Angeles Hip Hop community would like to encourage you to help save independent Hip Hop in the West by simply clicking on the petition link below so that we can let the higher ups know that we support independent Hip-Hop in Southern California.
For the past 8 years the Fantastik Four Crew, which features DJs Mr. Choc and J. Rocc, C-Minus and Truly OdD, have provided a critical outlet for underground Hip-Hop in Southern California, the nation's second largest market.
According to Fantastik 4our group members, there was no official warning of the cancellation and that listeners will not receive a farewell show.
As the radio market in the US becomes more monopolized it's harder & harder for artists who aren't on major record labels to get exposure on the air waves. Thus, you hear the same 16 songs when you turn on the radio. Friday Night Flavas has filled that void for a decade & provided many artists you see on MTV & BET now their first platform to get their
music to listeners.
While Power 106 has not indicated reasons for the cancellation of the weekly three-hour show, industry insiders speculated that the reason for the move is to make room for a more commercial oriented radio show. After its inception, Friday Night Flavas experienced major success and helped Power 106 to open its door to Hip-Hop and to their current
slogan "Where Hip-Hop Lives."
If Power 106 is where Hip Hop lives - Then they should embrace the realest Hip Hop they have - Friday Night Flavas.

In Volume Two he tackles the perception of Sales Numbers in Hip-Hop; something that at one-time true Hip-Hop fans used to point to when showing how much Hip-Hop has grown, yet they now point to it to show how much Hip-Hop has digressed. Sales today are completely different than they were 20 years ago...read "The Junkyard's" interpretation on this issue. Once you have read the piece head over to the forum to debate any issues.

1139554466 - January 1, 1970 By : Look out for the "Greatest Hits Live" DVD coming soon from DJ Quik and the Mad Science camp.
I recently had the opportunity to attend the DJ Quik Greatest Hits Live show at the House of Blues on Sunset. Here is a brief review I found, written by BEN QUIÑONES of L.A. Weekly. (This review is in reference to the February 3rd show)
"My Grammy Week got poppin’ tonight with a DJ Quik show that was off the hinges! A perm'd out Quik walked out and warned the audience, “This is something you don’t see in a hip-hop show.” True that: With a nine-piece live band and two back-up singers, Quik began to rap (or sing, really) classics from his first album, Quik Is the Name, like “Sweet Black Pussy,” “Born and Raised in Compton,” and the cool irie -feelin’ reggae hit “Tha Bombudd.” Bass player Erick Coomes made the night sound real deep-funky, especially on the James Brown cover “The Payback.” Quik also went into his new album, Trauma, including “Fandango” — with B-Real at his side — “Till Jesus Comes,” and “Black Mercedes,” with Nate Dogg joining him onstage. Quik even brought out surprise guest Chingy on the cut “Get Down.” For the encore he performed “Tonite,” and celebrated the night with some Veuve Clicquot champagne, some bottles of which he passed out to his loyal fans. We saw producer Fredwreck, Power 106’s Big Boy, Capitol Records’ Richie Abbott and the Mijares clan, Sara and Zazil. (Man, those girls can dance!) Quik finished things off by stage diving into the crowd. It was a night to remember."
** Robert Bacon was also playing with the band throughout the whole set.

This week, Crooked raps over the "I'm Throwed" beat that Jermaine Dupri did for Paul Wall. Crooked gets real controversial on this one, as he disses the hell out of DMX. This resulted from recent coments DMX made about the West Coast, here is a portion of what X said: "I don't like a lot of West Coast rappers. West Coast rap is too laid back, too focused on marijuana with all the blunts and lowriders. There's nothing honest. There's no hardship in it. Everyone in L.A. that raps has a lowrider and a fat blunt. There's nothin' to make you say, 'I can relate to that.'"
Crooked was one of many rappers who took offence to those statements, so he decided to air out his feelings on wax. Download the "I'm Throwed Freestyle" below:

Last week, Crooked ate up DMX on his vicious "I'm Throw'd" freestyle, so this week he decided to take it more smootly this week, blessing Tha Dogg Pound's "Vibe Wit A Pimp" beat with his words. Towards the end of the song, the beat switches up to Lil Flip's "Take You There" which features Nate Dogg.
In regular Crooked I fashion, he straight up killed it, but what else did you expect? He also shouts out some of the West's finest on the track, which is always nice to hear. These Hip-Hop Weekly's have been on fire, I'm already anticipating Vol. 4., but you have all week to enjoy this one, download it below:

1186487148 - January 1, 1970 By : True artistic talent is rare and often overlooked in today's highly saturated music industry. It's always been a goal of Dubcnn to recognize and support artists from the West Coast and across Hip-Hop that are making noise both in the streets and in the industry.
Tha Crow, born and raised in Los Angeles, Ca has earned his spot in the finals in one of Rap's biggest contests. Tha Crow was recently named the 1st Round Winner of the SRC/Loud.com contest and awarded with $25,000.
The contest which is broken into three brackets each consisting of ten rounds sees a winner selected weekly going into a pool of ten, three of which are chosen as semi-finalists for the Finals. When all three brackets have been completed, the Top 9 semi-finalists (3 from each bracket) will compete against each other in a Finals Bracket for the $100,000 and a record deal.
and Joseph Safina are too of the biggest moguls in the industry and recently flew out to award Tha Crow in person on Power 106. DJ Quik, DJ Skee, Felli Fel, DJ Reflex,
Omar Cruz and Goldie from The Flavor of Love show were just some of the other people in attendance.
When asked about the win Tha Crow was quoted as saying; "West West! This ain't just another person entering the contest in hopes of winning, this is a f*ckin' movement that's meant to happen. Rap is what I do, this is my life, there is no plan B and I've been preparing ever since I began rhyming. Writing hit songs is like breathing to me; I want to be mentioned among the greats. I'm doing this for every real n*gga out there - West Coast, East Coast, Down South, Mid West...they can't stop us if we move together."
To showcase what Tha Crow brings to the table we have been provided with a track for everyone to download and check out entitled "Reppin' CA" which is sure to generate some interest with its heavy hitting beat and infectious hook. You can expect to see the track appear on his upcoming mixtape "Str8 Off Da Block."

We will be keeping tabs on Tha Crow and his progress, until then make sure you visit Loud.com | Tha Crow to learn more, hear music and vote as well as checking out his official MySpace page.

1192791459 - January 1, 1970 By : 2007 has been a rough year for Bay Area savage Messy Marv, but we have some good news for all his fans! The currently incarcerated rapper is putting together his next album "Draped Up And Chipped Out 2", which is set to come out November 20th through Scalen/SMC/Fontana.
This album should hold over his fans until he's released from jail, as it's already been over two years since Messy's last solo album "Bandanas, Tattoos and Tongue Rings". His new album was originally supposed to be called "Millionaire Gangata", but after his incarceration he switched it up, took 9 tracks from the album that were finished and put them together with other songs he had, which ended up being "Draped Up And Chipped Out 2", which is a compilation style solo album, featuring Juvenile, Mike Jones, Sean Paul (Youngbloodz), B-Legit, Mistah FAB and many more. There is even a collaboration between Mac Dre and Messy. When it came to production, Messy enlisted his longtime producing partners, DJ Daryl and Sean T.
Messy had the following to say about the album: "I know my fans is starvin' for that real Messy Marv shit, so while I'm sittin' down I had to re-up with Draped Up & Chipped and put a twist on it. You gettin' a feel for my solo album plus all the people that made Draped Up 1 go. But when I touch down, I'm back in these streets pushin' this independent line- know that!"
Mess was also recently nominated for Best Rap Act of 2007 for the San Francisco Weekly Music Awards, taking place October 18th. Check out the tracklisting to "Draped Up And Chipped Out 2" below:
