1122923263 - January 1, 1970 By : You may have heard of Custom Made a while ago, when one of their emcee's, Aneek, released a diss to Compton's The Game. Well these Los Angeles natives didn't let that be their only focus in this Hip Hop game. They went about their business and kept on releasing material.
They've put out two official Mixtapes, this being their third. You may have heard Street Cinema and Pillow Talk, you may not have. Both are available in their online store for a very cheap price. Today, we have Street Cinema Volume 2: Sin City for your downloading pleasure, so if you like this, feel free to cop their other Mixtapes.
Cutom Made doesn't have your typical bouncy West Coast sound, rather they spit over many laid back and dark overtone tracks. As opposed to doing the same thing as everyone else, the crew spits over a majority of Original production.
I have three songs for you to preview, if you're still not sold on these Los Angeles emcees.
Here's a song with Aneek and Bluf called "Wrong Turn":
Aneek & Bluf - Wrong Turn
Element and Scoobs deliver their verbal murder on this track appropriately titled "Death Threats":
Element & Scoobs - Death Threats
Scoobs teams up with Sicks on "Livin This Life":
Scoobs & Sicks - Livin This Life Now that you've peeped those three tracks, this is the Tracklisting of Street Cinema: Sin City.
Tracklist:
01. Coming Home - Bluf and Element 02. Wrong Turn - Aneek and Bluf 03. Here 2 Take It (Interlude) 04. Death Threats - Element and Scoobs 05. Underground Takeover - Bluf and Sicks 06. The Best Product - Scoobs, Bluf and Aneek 07. Livin This Life - Scoobs and Sicks 08. Where You At? - Element, Bluf and Paradox 09. Talkin - Sicks Feat. Element 10. 1126216966 - January 1, 1970 By : When you think of Frank Sinatra, you think New York, New York. You may think the 1940’s, and you might think the Rat Pack. Hip-Hop certainly doesn’t come to mind. However, when deliberating on over what his moniker could be, Curtis Weeks opted for Cinatra, after Ole Blue Eyes.
The reason for this came as he studied a show on Frank and it was apparent that he had the best of both worlds. Frank Sinatra was able to rub shoulders with the Crème de la crème of Hollywood, yet dive into the depths of the underworld and be a key figure amongst mobsters and gangsters, yet not be considered out of place. Cinatra personally identified with this. Having spent five years in the military, he was exposed to a totally opposite way of life from which he was accustomed. He admits to coming from the bottom but having the exposure of the military made his journey down life’s path similar to that of his namesake. It was during his tenure in the Air force that he discovered his talent for lyrical wordplay and opted to follow that course.
Versatile is a word that Cinatra can identify with, however this isn’t what makes his character unique. What makes him stand out from all the other emerging talent, is his integrity and his appreciation for the art form. He is dead set on which path he is going to take to be recognized as an exceptional lyricist. He has been inspired by some of the greatest names in soul music such as Marvin Gaye, The Commodores, and Teddy Pendergrass along with some of the most influential artists in rap and hip-hop, KRS One, LL Cool J, Nas, and Jay-Z. Cinatra has studied both the music and the business and is ready to fill that vacant seat that so many artist strive for.
A Trenton, NJ native, Cinatra wants to cash in on the lack of serious emcees representing his home state. “I want to put the East Coast back on the map. New Jersey has never had its own voice; it has always been smothered between NY and Philly.” The Voice of NJ has not appeared on ridiculous amounts of mixtapes, nor has he rocked more stages than the Rolling Stones like some artists have, but this doesn’t equate a negative image of readiness. Cinatra has been attentively mastering his art, which is a rarity within the walls of the Hip-Hop genre nowadays. He wants to promote reliability and showmanship; he wants to be an artist, not another entrepreneur; he wants to be a name that is respected for marrying beats with words.
So with a competent team behind him and his own proficiency, Cinatra knows he can reach higher heights. There is nothing in today’s game that he can’t play for, nothing he can’t win. Everything is there for the taking and there is nothing to lose!!!!

1140624587 - January 1, 1970 By : I got some good news for all of our Australian visitors! After 8 years of absence, Snoop Dogg is ready to hit the road Down Under again. Here is the official press release:
After months of growing speculation, Paul Dainty and Dainty Consolidated Entertainment are thrilled to announce the upcoming Australian tour of hip-hop kingpin SNOOP DOGG, with pre-sold tickets via the Internet available February 21 and general tickets available February 23.
Having not stepped a foot (or paw, as the case may be) in the country for over eight years, rap’s self-appointed grand pimp Snoop Dogg is ready to return to our shores and wow hip-hop fans in all major cities with his signature West Coast flavour.
“The last Snoop Dogg tour was so memorable, and stood out from so many other shows, simply because of Snoop himself,” enthuses DJ Nino Brown, Australia’s premier urban DJ who supported Snoop during his first sell-out Australian tour in 1998. “Snoop is a complete artist and unlike no one else in hip-hop. It was his first Australian tour and every song he performed was a classic. There were no songs the crowd didn't know all the words to. His debut album Doggystyle was so huge here, and everyone wanted to see him perform all the tracks live. It was an awesome night, and I can't wait to see Snoop again!”
Born Calvin Broadus in California’s Long Beach City, Snoop has grown from a teenage member of the notorious Crip gang to a 90’s rap superstar to a global entertainment icon – and he’s still only in his early thirties. Due to his gang allegiance and ties with California hip-hop legend Dr. Dre, his 1993 album Doggystyle was the first debut album ever to enter the Billboard charts at number one. Singles such as “What’s My Name?” “Gin & Juice” and “Ain’t No Fun (If The Homies Can’t Have None)” came to define West Coast hip-hop in that era. Having now completed seven studio albums, with his most recent being 2004’s R&G: (Rhythm & Gangsta): The Masterpiece featuring the smash hit “Drop It Like It’s Hot”, Snoop has proven himself a rare survivor in the cut-throat rap game.
In addition to his music, Snoop Dogg is also the ultimate rap brand. The street-savvy entrepreneur gets his hustle on in every way imaginable, from his signature line of Pony Sneakers (“Doggy Biscuitz”), to namesake foot-long hot dogs (“Snoop Doggs”), to his MTV show Doggy Fizzle Televizzle, plus Doggystyle soft porn DVDs and frequent appearances in video games such as True Crime: Streets Of LA. His film career took off in 1998 with a small role in the indie flick Half Baked, and continues to flourish every year, with acclaimed roles in The Wash, Training Day, Starsky & Hutch, Soul Plane and Baby Boy to date.
Currently promoting Bigg Snoop Dogg Presents: Welcome To Tha Chuuch, an album he executive produced featuring artists from his Doggy Style Records plus guests, Snoop can also be seen in Boss’n Up, a film inspired by the music of his latest album, R&G. Boss’n Up is the story of Corde Christopher (played by Snoop), a dead-end grocery clerk who joins the fast life and becomes a pimp to realise his wildest dreams – with major consequences.
“Snoop is such a talented MC,” says uber-producer Pharrell Williams, who’s worked with Snoop on tracks like “Drop It Like It’s Hot” and “Let’s Get Blown”. “But he’s more than just an MC, because he knows what he wants to look like and he understands what his videos should be. He’s just a great, all-round entertainer.”
Get out your flyest pimp suits, run to the store for those custom-made alligator dress shoes, make sure your perm’s perfect and get ready to holler “pimp, pimp, hooray!” (Snoop’s own cheer) when the Doggfather rolls into your city – it will be a night of classic hip-hop you won’t want to miss.

1154762935 - January 1, 1970 By : The westcoast now has representation on one of the biggest emerging record labels in the industry. BabyGrande. The well known underground collective known as Custom Made have signed a deal which includes a mixtape due out in September including a DVD followed by the groups official debut album in 2007.
Over the years they have been together they have drawn comparisons to the likes of Wu-Tang and Mobb Deep while all the time creating a strong buzz in the streets of L.A.
Having moved over 100,000 mixtapes on the strength of the music and their own street savvy they saw national noteriety earlier this year when L.A.s DJ Warrior featured the group on his Cali Untouchable Ice Cube Mixtape.
"Custom Made has a sound and feel that you dont expect to hear and see coming out of L.A. To me their music is a fusion of all aspects of LA hip-hop culture presented in an entirely new manner and that originality and realness is what makes everyone from bangers to battlers feel their music. All of them are either 19 or 20 years old so they truly represent a new generation of hip-hop" exlained Chuck Wilson of BabyGrande.
On September 19, 2006 Babygrande will release the afformentioned mixtape: "Sidewalk Mindtalk: The Best of the Custom Made Mixtapes," which will include six previously unreleased tracks as well as a bonus DVD. For the latest on Custom Made stay tuned to dubcnn and visit BabyGrande.com

1159321269 - January 1, 1970 By : A new week with new faces here on Dubcnn. Maybe new to Dubcnn, but definitely not new to Hip Hop. When it comes to being an OG, you certainly don't have to be a rapper to earn that title. This man has seen the very first week of Hip Hop and he chosed to take a total different direction than the average emcee. We're talking about Taadow, founder and owner of Taadow West Clothing Company (formerly known as Leak Wear).
The New York born and raised businessman started early in the game making custom clothing for the likes of Bad Boy Records and Loud Records, which led to his big break on the West Coast.
"I connected with Loud Records to make all their sweatshirt from Xzibit, M.O.P., Wu-Wang, and them." Taadow told Dubcnn. "All their sweatshirts got Leak wear stamp on the sleeves. So I had the budget for the whole Loud Records for the last 2 years. Al Pittman, Xzibit's security guard, he hooked me up with Dr. Dre and showed him some shit that I created, and that nigga loved it! Dre was like 'I want this as the official Up In Smoke tour shirt'. I was like 'No doubt!', so I ended up clicking with Dre cause he wanted me to do some more shit. Plus me and my man MC Serch was holding down Eminem. Somebody else was supposed to be doing their tour, but I just took the shit over. The niggas just had to fall back! Nobody wanted their shit, it became a Leak tour! First the ad with Dre came up, then I did the ad with WC. So it went down. I made custom shit for Snoop, and then Snoop came out with his line. Then we did shows in Vegas together. Snoop had just dropped his Snoop Dogg Clothing, so it was a family thing!" he continued.
Not only has Taadow been showing as much love to the West Coast as to his hometown, but he'a also getting that same love and respect back from the big boys in L.A. who opened up their doors to him.
"Me being from New York, once it came down, I got out there to L.A. and the love was shown to me from cats who didn't even know me. Like Dre, dude got a million cats around trying to get at him all the time and trying to do the same thing as me. Dude didn't know me from a hole in the wall, and he opened up his doors to me. Why? I got tired of asking why! Why did this man bless me with this shit? Cause I'm Taadow nigga! That's why. And I got my shit on lock. I got respect from the top notch cats. My communication shows it, my work shows it, my ads show it. We did 5 million in the first year, it was like magic!" Taadow said.
Dubcnn sat down with Taadow to discuss his background story and he tells us how it all started for him. Taadow speaks about getting his big break with Leak Wear to creating Taadow West Clothing Company. He also tells us where the quality difference lies in comparison to Dickies and other lines. Taadow then speaks about his future plans including a new deal with Ice Cube, negotiating with Suge Knight in the past, working with Hood Surgeon, and much more.
On top of that we also have a bunch of exclusive never before seen pictures of the Up In Smoke tour crew. Check in to see notables like Dre, Snoop, Warren G, Bad Azz, Tray Deee, WC, Xzibit, Mel-Man, Eminem, Proof (R.I.P.), and many more rockin' Leak Wear during the tour.
This won't be the last time you will see Taadow on Dubcnn. Next up we will have a contest coming up in the near future to offer Dubcnn readers the chance to win a package of Taadow West gear. Stay tuned to Dubcnn and hit the link below to read the interview.

This L.A. super group recently released their sophomore CD via Babygrande called "Original Dynasty." Find out why the group is looking beyond resurrecting the West Coast hip hop scene.
The group also goes into detail as to why Custom Made is the genuine article that will stand the test of time. Their grind is heavy. Their music defies a West Coast or East Coast label. Their lyrics continue the legacy of West Coast greats like Ras Kass and Kurupt and their confidence is only surpassed by their skill.

1227360081 - January 1, 1970 By : Guerilla Union, the promoters for the 2008 Rock The Bells International Festival Series has partnered with Hip Hop Official to present the first-ever Rock the Bells online charity auction. Dubcnn is honoured once again to have been asked by Guerilla Union to be a Partner for the Auction from which all proceeds will benefit the American Diabetes Association (ADA).
From December 1 through December 15, 2008 — just following Diabetes Awareness Month (November) — fans can go online to bid for various pieces of memorabilia from the 2008 tour.
Featured items include two custom limited-edition Rock the Bells skateboard decks signed by all 2008 RTB artists including Nas, Mos Def, members of De La Soul, The Pharcyde, ATCQ and more. In addition, several 2008 RTB artists and labels are getting involved by donating special autographed pieces, such as Tribe’s Low End Theory vinyl signed by Phife Dawg, sneakers from Supernatural and Wale, a prize pack from Duck Down records (Kidz In The Hall), plus many more.
Inspiration for getting involved with this great cause is Phife Dawg, member of A Tribe Called Quest and a diabetic. During the 2008 Rock the Bells festival series, he displayed tremendous strength and resilience through his current battle with the disease. According to Phife Dawg "Believe it or not, Diabetes affects us all. Until we find a cure it will continue to affect us. I was lucky to have a 2nd chance at life, others aren’t so lucky, so please help us find a cure for this madness we call DIABETES!"
Chang Weisberg, Guerilla Union founder, states; "Phife was an absolute inspiration to myself and our staff. His courage and strength to perform night in and night out for Rock The Bells was nothing less than extraordinary. We are extremely excited to join his fight against this serious and deadly disease by giving back to the community through this auction. With November being Diabetes Awareness Month, our goal is to bring national attention by sharing a piece of hip-hop history with our fans."
Contributions will also be made in memory of J Dilla, legendary hip-hop producer and rapper, as well as Jheryl Busby, former president and chief executive of Motown Records who revived the label in the 1990’s.
To read more about the auction and learn about diabetes, people can visit the Official Auction Website. Instant updates about new items up for bid will also be available by texting CHARITY to 44688.
Dubcnn is proud to Partner with Guerilla Union and Hip Hop Official for this Charity Auction and we urge all our readers to support the auction by visiting the Official Auction Website and bidding when the auction opens on December 1.

Why didn't ya'll holla at me.. tell me whats up? actually.. why didn't you holla at me EVER about this shit? and where has the customer service section over at DPG gone.. you think you can sweep it under the carpet?
Like I said on their forum. DPG/GA as an outfit have no respect. On the music side theres respect, but that's where it stops.
Ask yourself why instead of talking to me they just ban me from the forum. If you lose your money with DPG/GA don't say I never tried to warn ya'll.
If you know whats up, got ripped off too, or want to speak freely on this..

1085559008 - January 1, 1970 By : Los Angeles, CA- Lawyers for the hip hop artist Ras Kass, (John Austin), filed a civil complaint in the Los Angeles County Superior Court against Priority Records today. The music industry’s common practice of binding recording artists into contracts for an extended period of time is being specifically attacked by the complaint.
Ras Kass, who has been signed to Priority since 1995, is demanding that he be released from his recording contract based on specific acts of breach by Priority Records, Capitol Records and EMI and intentional and malicious misrepresentations made by Priority Records, as well as Priority Records executives Wendy Goldstein and Andrew Shack. In the past, Ras Kass has formally and informally sought release from the label based on specific provisions in his contract, which allow him to do so; still Priority Records has refused to release him.
The civil complaint alleges the following causes of action: 1) Declaratory Relief Re Labor Code Section 2855(b); 2) Unfair Competition; 3) Restraint of Trade; 4) Rescission of Agreement; 5) Breach of Contract; 6) Breach of the Implied Covenant of Good Faith and Fair Dealing; 7) Intentional Interference with Prospective Economic Advantage; 8) Negligent Interference with Business Relationships; and 9) Intentional Infliction of Emotional Distress and alleges damages in excess of five million dollars.
Courtney Love, 311, Metallica, Prince and others have filed similar civil complaints challenging record labels over contract terms. Courtney Love had particularly similar issues when Universal failed to promote her album and held her to her contract for more than 7 years. Love’s case settled in late 2003.
In 1995, Ras Kass signed onto Priority with goals of using his craft to teach people about religion, politics and his art. To date Ras Kass has had only two albums officially released. Priority never released the anticipated Van Gogh and/or Goldyn Chyld albums. Critics from The Source Magazine described his debut album Soul On Ice (1996), as “spectacular.” Rolling Stone magazine gave it 4-1/2 stars. His second album, Rasassination (1998) received similar reviews. Rahiem Shabazz, writer and critic claims “Rasassination is a testament of true hip-hop.” Over 3,000 Internet based fans have signed an on-line petition in order to “Free Ras Kass”. The list was presented to the label in 2002, but was never taken seriously.
Ras Kass’ career has the support of many industry professionals. Hip Hop artist and host of MTV’s Pimp My Ride, Xzibit, stated that “Ras Kass is THE SPITTER; I respect him as an artist, and he takes Hip-Hop and music seriously. His skill and his talent come from a genuine place. The West Coast is waiting to hear something that explosive.”
Hip Hop pioneer, KRS-1 had this to say “First of all Ras Kass is my man. All 25,000 members of the Temple Of Hip Hop are down with Ras Kass. He’s the only MC to give me, KRS-1 a run for my money!”
Other artists/producers who have supported his talent, and have worked with Ras Kass, are Eminem, Dr. Dre, Busta Rhymes, Twista, David Banner, Pharoahe Monch, Mos Def and many many more. Multi Platinum producer, Mike City claims “I just want Ras to make music and be able to provide for his family. He’s one of the best rappers out!”
Supporters also include former VP executive at Priority/Capitol, Mr. Dave Weiner. He recently stated that “Ras Kass is one of the best MC’s on the West Coast, and in the world. It’s a shame that Ras Kass hasn’t been given the opportunity to present his talent to the masses. Compared to the talent that is getting support from the major label systems in place today, none of them can stand up to Ras Kass’ talent.”
Former manager and Founder of Rap Coalition, Wendy Day stands behind what Ras Kass is doing and said, “I am happy to hear Ras Kass taking back control of his life and career by refusing to be bullied anymore by Priority Records. The artist has been the underdog in this industry for far too long and it is about time that an artist held their label accountable for damages in a court of law. I stand in solidarity with Ras Kass and support his efforts to regain his freedom from this Goliath!"
EMI/Capitol is a major record label and home to such artists as Coldplay, Radiohead, The Vines, Chingy, and Snoop Dogg. Over a course of 9 years, Priority has only distributed two of four Ras Kass albums and failed to promote either properly, with promises of much more. Lack of promotion and marketing on Priority’s behalf, left Ras Kass no choice but to seek other means. “I want what is fair; all I want is to create great music, have the proper team behind me, and be the artist that I am. I am prepared to do what it takes in order to be released from this ugly situation.”

1085559056 - January 1, 1970 By : News taken from TVTRecords.com:
TVT Records has announced the worldwide signing of hip-hop supergroup 213, featuring acclaimed hip-hop artists Snoop Dogg, Nate Dogg and Warren G. 213's debut album, The Hard Way, will be released on TVT Records on July 20th, 2004. A decade-plus in the making, the group's highly anticipated first full length album release The Hard Way is set to rock the hip-hop world with the unprecedented combination of these three talented hip-hop stars.
Named after the area code of Long Beach, CA, the city in which all members of the group grew up, Snoop Dogg, Nate Dogg and Warren G originally formed 213 as teenagers in Los Angeles before breaking off to have renowned and record breaking solo careers. Upon splintering in the late 80's, they made a pact that, if they all succeeded as solo artists, they would return to their roots and pick up 213 where they left off. After a couple of stints attempting a reunion, most notably on the track "Ain't No Fun" on Snoop Dogg's critically-acclaimed album Doggystyle, it was not until the three combined forces again for a song off Warren G's 2001 release Return to the Regulator, that they were able to make 213's reunion official.
Before completing work on The Hard Way, 213's bootleg track, entitled "So Fly," exploded on to airwaves all over their hometown of Los Angeles. The track featured the instrumentation of Monica's "So Gone" and became the #1 song on Power 106 in Los Angeles, in addition to receiving heavy rotation on The Beat. The tremendous success of the song highlighted the excitement surrounding this trio's return, dominating the West Coast's top urban radio stations.
As the buzz on this highly anticipated record and reunion continues to build, the album's first official single, "Groupy Luv" is starting to bubble up on radio station playlists nationwide.

1092810126 - January 1, 1970 By : While the rap world is still shocked at 213's "Tha Hard Way" album not having a single Warren G produced track, the trio is busy promoting the record that dropped this tuesday in stores worldwide.
They made a quick appearance on Big Boy's Morning Show and played alot of songs from the record and announced a second 213 album in the making. Seeing as they took 10 years for the first one, I wonder when the 2nd one will drop!
Anyway, they announced Nate Dogg's solo album coming out next year, and it will feature the song Dolla Dolla Bill, that once was supposed to be the lead single to 213. Warren G mentioned that he is gonna focus on producing now, and that he's teaming up with his old group the 5 Footaz again.
You can go cop the record in stores now, and catch Snoop on tour with Linkin Park and KoRn.

1092888008 - January 1, 1970 By : “You don’t have to go to L.A. to get your MC Eiht,” Lloyd Banks contended on his debut album, Hunger For More, which entered the Billboard pop chart at Number One. Banks’ assertion on his madly successful album keenly demonstrates how deeply it is ingrained within hiphop consciousness that MC Eiht is known as being the streets’ ultimate spokesperson for the West Coast. Period.
As signified by the title of Eiht’s new album, Veterans Day, slated for release on September 28, Eiht is one of the true O.G.’s of L.A. hiphop, a true veteran of the ghetto, emerging in 1989, with the debut release from Comptons Most Wanted, It’s A Compton Thang. Coming into the game, Eiht rolled along side Tha Chill, their luminary scratcher DJ Mike T and producers Slip and DJ Unknown. Cited as a select musical inspiration for producer/director John Singleton’s classic film, Boyz In The Hood, the group’s single, “Growin’ Up In The Hood” was picked as the single for the film. Eiht’s releases with CMW, Straight Check’n Em and Music To Driveby quickly became West Coast underground classics. Eiht, who has graced the cover of the Source Magazine twice, appeared in the Hughes Brothers’ feature film Menace II Society, and also achieved critical acclaim for his indelible single, “Streiht Up Menace,” which appeared on the film’s multi-platinum selling soundtrack, which held the Number One spot on the Billboard Top 100 R&B Albums Chart for eight weeks. We Come Strapped, which quickly achieved gold status, created controversy for its no holds barred attack on racist police officers, and was eventually attacked in a speech by then Presidential candidate Bob Dole. Rolling Stone Magazine was among the media outlets that joined in the frenzy to address the fact that Eiht’s record label, Epic Records, felt compelled to issue an extra warning sticker on the disc, which stated that Eiht’s lyrics were not necessarily the opinions of the Sony label.
Eiht released Death Threatz and Last Man Standing, officially ending his time with Epic, and then he signed with Priority, releasing Underground Hero, Section 8 and N My Neighborhood. Always in demand, he has accepted numerous offers to record duets on albums released by other artists, a few of which include Spice 1, Scarface and Pete Rock, but now he’s back on the solo tip with a new album, Veterans Day.
Eiht comes back for the kill with his new album, Veterans Day, released by West, Inc. Records though Native Records with distribution by Ryko’s Penalty Associated Labels. Again, as noted by the album’s title, Eiht is reveling in the light of a long career that has garnered him sheer respect from the streets, as well as countless props from other artists. On Tupac Shakur’s birthday this year, L.A.’s KWPR 106 FM re-broadcast the interview during which Pac stated that when he was in prison at Dannemora, he fervently listened to MC Eiht’s music. When Ludicris broadcast his video countdown on MTV, he opened it up with Eiht’s “Streiht Up Menace.” To Eiht, these were not just props---they were omens. “All of this just told me I needed to be working on putting an album out, to keep going. I had done some projects that were just to keep my name out there, but I realized this year that I really wanted to do a significant album, which will actually be my very first since being in the Priority situation.” Despite his heavy reputation in the hiphop world, Eiht acknowledges, “To some people, this will be my first solo album, because they weren’t around for my prior releases, and to them, this will be my first album.”
The production on Veterans Day was done by Tha Chill, who has also recently recorded tracks for Snoop Dogg’s 213. There is one exception, and that is the track, “Some Of These Thugs,” produced by Prodeje of South Central Cartel.
>From its provocative intro, “Vetz Day,” Eiht takes the listener into the streets with him. He potently explains of the album’s opening, “It’s the national anthem, but this version is our national anthem, for those that can relate to it. It’s national throughout ghettos everywhere. You’ll listen to it, and you’ll say, ‘That’s real what he’s saying there,” referring to the police violence, the people, my generation, and he’s trying to make a point.”
Among the album’s tracks is “Gangsta Smash,” which Eiht describes as “a gangsta groove song. It’s just telling gangstas to mash to this groove."
“It’s Alright” deals with the problems and struggles going on with males and females as they hustle up and do what they need to do to keep food on the table.
Being a true vet, “We Made It 2004” derives from a song CMW did on their first album. Eiht says, “We had a clean version, a radio version on that album, so we recreated it here. We made it a street version for 2004.”
Words from the wise, “Nobody Beat Us,” says Eiht, is a Biz Markie remake. “Like nobody beats the business,” pontificates Eiht, but I’m saying that nobody beat us. I’m using old school sounds on this record, using a little Biz Markie and UTFO. I think people will like this cut that features people from my era who started out with early hiphop.” It has a bit of an East Coast feel to it. It’s all West music again, however, when Eiht returns with “Streets Don’t Love You,” which Eiht describes as “more steered towards classic Eiht, CMW music. It’s that old Barry White that we’re known for. CM-Dub is known for heavy Isaac Hayes, the Meters, stuff like that. I was thinking of veteran shit, old school shit, trying to do something significant, so people would say, ‘That’s classic Eiht right there.’ It’s explaining the circumstances that we live in today.”
“I speak for the people on the streets and the underground,” notes Eiht. “I try to keep my music on that level. I don’t deal with how much money there is, or how much it’s going to cost to get a chick that is a celebrity. I can’t talk about people in Compton riding around in Bentleys and going to the clubs, messing with models. We don’t even have any clubs in Compton. My music is about being in the neighborhood, being around real people, who are stuck in the struggle of doing whatever they be doing, every day jobs, dope dealing, trying to take care of their families.”
He adds, “A lot of guys never get a chance to do what I’ve been doing, but I still stay true to where I started, still being able to connect with folks. That’s why I feel I can touch a lot of people.”
You don’t have to go to L.A. to get your MC Eiht, because instead, you can go to the nearest place where there’s a record store, and get a copy of Veterans’ Day. Geah.

1093349299 - January 1, 1970 By : After blowing minds and whetting appetites with her first release for emerging indie heavyweight Babygrande Records, “The Bootleg of the Bootleg EP”, in October 2003, heads have been clamoring for the follow-up. September 21st sees the release of Grae’s second full length album, her first long player on Babygrande, “This Week.” Arguably the most gifted and critically well received emcee of the past five years, Jean Grae is a startlingly fresh talent. Gritty and raw, yet intelligently artistic, she has become not only an indie hip-hop icon but one of today's most promising new artists. A rising media phenomenon, all eyes are on Jean with the release of This Week . “This Week” realizes the potential fans and the industry have seen in her since the get go, providing a platform for her caustic lyricism paired with classic beats. A prodigious talent, Grae grew up in a musical household to parents who were themselves independent jazz musicians. At age 13 Grae became the youngest person to be a part of Alvin Ailey’s second company. She also attended LaGuardia School of the Arts and Performing Arts (made famous by the show Fame). This background nurtured her creative instincts and allowed her to begin refining her rhyming and beatmaking skills. Shortly after, her crew Natural Resource was born. The group was shortlived but successful. After the crew disbanded in 1999 Grae began beating her own unique path. She guested on so many records she earned herself the title of the Cameo Queen by the underground hip hop community. It wasn't until she was asked to participate on the solo record by Mr. Len (ex Company Flow), that her skills became undeniable to a larger listening public. She followed her Len appearance up with a well-received full length, Attack Of The Attacking Things. This release confirmed to many that Grae was one of the underground’s finest talents. Fall 2003 saw the release of The Bootleg of The Bootleg EP which delivered a tantalizing glimpse of Grae’s developing artistic vision and consummate skills on the mic. It also led to the beginning of her relationship with The Roots.A short stint on the winter OkayPlayer tour turned into The Roots asking her to tour with them and be on their new record as well as inclusion on the Okayplayer spring 2004 tour. Jean is featured on The Roots recent release, The Tipping Point and will be featured on Talib Kweli's forthcoming album, Beautiful Struggle, both Geffen/Interscope Records recording artists. Jean's street-hop mixtapes and recent guest appearances/collaborations with artists such as Masta Ace, Okayplayer, The Badass Soundtrack and Babygrande's own Sharkey are have been making noise all year. (Sharkey's track Summer in the City with Jean is rapidly climbing its way to the top of the national College radio charts). Leading off with the first single, a double A side consisting of "Goin' Crazy" b/w "U Don't Want It," produced by Midi Mafia (50 Cent), “This Week” is surrounded by the anticipation of hip-hop fans everywhere waiting for Grae to burst out of the underground and into mainstream consciousness. With heavyweight producers involved such as Midi Mafia (50 cent) and 9th Wonder (Jay-Z), this could be the record to do that. For more information: www.jean-grae.com www.babygrande.com

1095960308 - January 1, 1970 By : On Friday October 1st, Aceyalone, Planet Asia, Trensetta, Customer Service, Da Mon Star Mob, Humble, DJ Gloss (Project Blowed) will be performing at the Malibu Inn. This is an 18 and up event and it starts at 8pm. Along with an amazing line, it's only 10 bucks to get it. I suggest getting there early. There's not parking for the Malibu Inn, so you have to park on Pacific Coast Highway, which fills up quick. Also, the location is not very big and is standing room only, so if you want to be up towards the front, you'll need to get there early. Don't sleep.

1097012913 - January 1, 1970 By : Friday October 1st found the Malibu Inn being invaded by the Project Blowed and other West Coast Underground acts. Big shouts to Brian Lewis & Juda Starr for putting on the show. Thanks for lacing your boy with some VIP acess. I got you on anything you need homie. Now, back to the show.
I showed up with LatinaBeatz(from this site, with her fine ass. LOL.) and her cousin, about half way into the first set. The first group up was 7th Sign. Seen them before, real dope group. Didn't get any pics though. They are actually a 7-8 person squad, including a drummer, but this night they only had 5 people. Not sure why. Nonetheless, I suggest peeping them out here. Preview their album on CDBaby.com. Their emcees are very powerful and don't follow that usual Compton sound. Very dope group who are yet to get the attention they deserve. They have a singer, a Reggaeton artist, male emcees, female emcees, the works. A real eclectic group with a real crazy sound and great message. Now, they're not on some preachy shit, but they're socially concious, and all of them can spit it hot. Watch for more on them here in the coming weeks. On to the next act.
Hailing from the Northside of Long Beach is the Project Blowedians Da Mon Star Mob. I've also brought them up before on the site during a few of my reviews, these cats are SERIOUS. Skarekrow on the beats, and let me tell you, this boy is a problem. He's got some of the illest beats I've heard in a minute. Jul Unique, L-Swift & Onslaught are very dope emcees, I might add, as well. They all have mad energy and spit heat for the streets and the clubs. I got a couple videos of their performance so you can see for yourself. I'll be dropping that in the coming time. I'm for sure gonna bring a lot more info on this group. They're being slept on, but it's time to change all that. They got an album dropping and another one coming sooner than you think. Check out their official website.
Next up, more Blowed members, Customer Service. This is an 8 man squad, but they only had 6 members with them. They all looked rather young, but all controlled the mic well. This group is truely breaking down the color lines, so to say, we find in Hip Hop today. They got cats of all colors and creeds and cultures in their group. I had heard their name before, but I've never seen them. I enjoyed their set. They have fun with Hip Hop, but keep it in it's purest form. But, if you're a close minded person who only wants gangsta shit, they may not be for you. Anyway, the entire crew has some real good energy. I enjoyed their set. I'll also be bringing info on them. If you don't frequent the Project Blowed events on Thursdays, you can keep up with the crew on their Official site or their page on Myspace also. Look for a video of some of their perfomance coming soon.
Now don't sleep on this next emcee. He's one of THE illest on the West Coast, hell, he's one of the illest in all of Hip Hop. I don't give a fuck, I'm big uppin' him like that. Trenseta is NOT for play. On the mic he's a beast. He's cocky, but he backs it up. He has witty punchlines, but DO NOT confuse him for a punchline emcee. Tren comes with depth, real lyrics and a great live show. On stage, he's no different that he is on CD. Anyone who heard his Uncut Vol. 1 mixtape will know what I mean. Unfortunately, my camera started acting up during his performance, I was only able to get a few pictures and the video cut off. Not to worry, I'll be bringing the scoop on Tren and his Urban Legendz crew, soon.
Planet Asia. What else is there to say? A Legend. An amazing emcee. One of the greats out here. His live show is a must see. He comes out solo. No hype man, which is a major plus. He gets the crowd very hype. He performed some old cuts and did a lot of new shit. He even treated us to a cut off his up coming Mixtape. It was tight as hell. I got it on tape and I'll be bringing that exclusively to ya'll here. Also, during his set, Asia pointed out legendary Hip Hop producer Battlecat(shouts to BC!) in the crowd. He mentioned that he and Cat will be collabing, so be on the look for that. It's gonna be major. One of the illest producers with one of the illest emcees, can't wait. Also, don't forget, As is doing a full album with Evidence of Dilated Peoples. He's working hard, so support the man damn it!
To close the show, you had the leader of the Project Blowed, Aceyalone. As always he puts on a great show, going through classics and new material. Just as with the rest of the acts, I got some video of his performance. You'll just have to keep checking back for that. It's gonna be off the hook. Ace ended his set by bringing up a bunch of emcees who performed and they all started freestyling, in classic Project Blowed fashion. Cats from Customer Service and other Blowedians like Non-Stop went up and busted. Even Planet Asia joined in on the fun. Great way to end a great show. I'll be keeping ya'll informed on the Blowed as well, too. All the artists.
Here are some pictures to keep you occupied until I get the videos ready.

1097438263 - January 1, 1970 By : Like the cars featured on his MTV show "Pimp My Ride", Xzibit's career is being made over. After suffering a career-threating injury at the hands of some eses last year, and fresh from his stint riding shotgun with the Aftermath camp towards platinum and gold plaques on his last two albums, respectfully, Mr.X to the Z's driving solo for a change.
Weapons Of Mass Destruction kicks off with a slew of George W. sound bites, leading us to believe X's political voice will be omnipresent throughout the record. Over producer Thayod's swinging drum track and church organs, "Judgement Day" finds the former Likwit Crew member spitting : "At first there was a war on Blacks, and then there was a war on crack/And now there's a war in Iraq". Then on "Criminal Set", over Battlecat's stripped-down four on the floor drum pattern, X flexes on politricks and his lyric-deficient Left Coast peers: "I run a race with the West on my back/While Ya'll the reason why they say niggas from the West can't rap" It seems all good until "Motherfucka", where X's creative wheels fall off. His tired lines like "Smoke like a chimney" and "it's not a fucking game, you know my fucking name" lose over Rick Rock's lazily swinging claps and synthesizers. Luckily, "Tough Guy" finds a revamped Busta Rhymes in the passenger seat, as both MCs spit hot mixtape-ready bars over an Oompa Loompa-inspired Hi-Tek track.
Though Xzibit's flow consistently impresses, "Scent Of A Woman" finds him sounding too formulaic and contrieved, as his mid-tempo chick rhymes are off pace with Hi-Tek's swirling violins and lagging drum track. In the end, Weapons political statements are scant, leaving him sounding as if he's trying to pimp his fans as well

1100613006 - January 1, 1970 By : Last nights Vibe Awards in California seem to have been total chaos. From Suge Knight yellin' out "Fuck The G-Unit" on stage, to Dr. Dre getting attacked by somebody in the crowd right when he was getting his lifetime achievement award presented to by Snoop Dogg & Quincy Jones, to somebody getting stabbed.
It is still not too clear what exactly went on, and it looks like the media is trying to cover up some shit, as MTV.com changed their article on this after an hour, taking out Suge's name. However, I have a link for you below to check out, it is a video of what happened from the news, check it out below:
News Report On The Vibe Awards and then click on the right under "Featured Videos" on "Chaos At Award Show".
Here are some pictures from the show:
Game & 50 Cent On Stage
Snoop Dogg & Quincy Jones Presenting Award
Crowd At The Show
Here is a news article on this:
"SANTA MONICA, Calif. - One person was stabbed at the second annual Vibe awards Monday as rapper Snoop Dogg and producer Quincy Jones were preparing to honor Dr. Dre with a lifetime achievement award, authorities and witnesses said.
Dozens of people sitting near the stage Monday inside a hangar at the Santa Monica Municipal Airport began shoving each other as the show wound down about 7:30 p.m., a photographer who covered the event for The Associated Press said.
News video showed chairs being thrown, punches flying, people chasing one another and some being restrained.
"To my understanding ... the show was going on when the stabbing occurred," said police Lt. Frank Fabrega in a press conference following the fight.
It was unclear if the stabbing preceded or followed the fight. The victim, a 26-year-old man, was taken to a hospital and was listed in stable condition.
Police were looking for the assailant and no arrests have been made.
Witness Frank Williams told KCAL-TV that Dr. Dre was involved in the brawl.
"I saw Dr. Dre fighting somebody," Williams said. "I don't know if he was fighting back. But there was a guy taken out basically bloodied."
Andrea Ferguson, employed by a public relations firm that worked with Vibe for the awards ceremony, called the incident a "disruption" but declined to provide details. She added the show was allowed to continue but it was halted for about five minutes.
Dr. Dre, who was scheduled to receive a Vibe Legend Award for his lifetime contributions to hip-hop, had not come on stage yet when the fight erupted. Jones and Snoop Dogg stood on stage without saying anything.
"My understanding is that it was somewhat chaotic in there," Fabrega said.
About 1,000 people attended the event, some of whom scurried for the exits when the fight broke out.
"It's really important that we don't take a negative incident like this and do away with the awards," Suge Knight told reporters."
We'll keep you updated.

1100729325 - January 1, 1970 By : MC Eiht has long been considered a “Menace II Society” by his fans, and his crime spree continues with his role in the Rockstar Playstation II video game, “Grand Theft Auto: San Andreas.” The gangsta game title is currently topping sales statistics around the world. On it, the veteran rapper, Eiht, plays the role of the featured character, Ryder, and the song, “Hood Took Me Under” from his group, Comptons Most Wanted is included on its soundtrack. Just a few weeks ago, he also released a solo album, “Veterans Day” on West Music/Native Records and the album made its way on the “Billboard” Top 100 R&B Albums chart.
Although in addition to his music, Eiht is also famous for his role as A-Wax in the feature film, “Menace II Society,” the rapper says, “I would compare Ryder’s character more to O Dog from the movie than to A-Wax, because he’s more reckless, and he’s more drug induced. A-Wax was still down for the neighborhood, but Ryder is an instigator, and he likes to pump up the other characters, especially his homeboy CJ. Ryder likes to instigate and get trouble started. He’s on dope and he’s always smoking, plus he’s hyper about getting trouble started.”
Rockstar Games’ Dan Houser, the executive producer of the game, which market analysts predict will help make this holiday buying season a record breaker for new games, says, “Eiht’s powerful and funny delivery insures that Ryder steals the show. From the moment we walked into the studio, we knew he was going to blow us away with his performance.”
“Grand Theft Auto: San Andreas” debuted at the Number 1 spot on the UK game charts, and according to industry estimates, the gangsta title sold more than 2 million copies during the first 2 weeks of its release. “Grand Theft Auto: San Andreas” was developed by Take-Two Interactive Software, an imprint of Rockstar Games.
Eiht says the combination of West Coast elements with the game world makes perfect sense. He observes, “Basically, one game was pretty much East Coast, and there was Vice City, which was Miami-based, or whatever. So now basing one on the West Coast, which is where the name San Andreas fits in, that is taken from our earthquake fault, and then hooking up with people like me and DJ Pooh, and getting that West Coast feel, you can only base the game around gangs and the element of the West Coast lifestyle. That means it is essentially gang bangin,’ drive-by shootings, drugs, police corruption and police brutality, all of that element. So it was only right, and this is not to say that is how all people live out here, but that element and culture would fit right here.”
As far as both the exponential success and the reaction to the gangsta phenomenom that is being incorporated into the game world, Eiht notes, “In the other games, you’re playing the stereotypical characters named Joe or Bill, and he’s been robbed by the mob. But in making it West Coast originated, and by putting gangs and drive-bys in it, activities that normally go on in the West Coast, it makes the game more realistic for people to play. Kids relate to the game because they know that stuff is what really happens. It is more realistic to them, because this stuff is going on everywhere, and not just on the West Coast, either, so it appeals to them. With this game, you really put yourself in the settings of living in Los Angeles and living in the gang scenario. This game shows what’s really going on in the streets.”
As far as the game’s music soundtrack, Eiht says, “They took a classic Comptons Most Wanted song, “Hood Took Me Under,” and they put it on the game. That song describes the scenario the players are dealing with. You’re stuck in the ‘hood, you’re having rivalries and shootouts, and you have enemies. Back in the day, that was the perfect song, and one that people felt, because there were so many black people, who were stuck in the neighborhood, stuck in poverty, stuck in the struggle, so that song fit what so many people were going through. When Rockstar was looking at all the possibilities of what songs to use in the game, they knew you could not do a West Coast video game without a classic Comptons Most Wanted song. Originally, they had contacted me because they needed to have permission to use the song in the game. Everything was good. We built a relationship, and they asked me to play the character, so it just fell into place like that.”
Eiht also says he wants it to be known that the success of “Grand Theft Auto: San Andreas” is important for hiphop. He points out, “It will touch a lot of people who maybe weren’t previously interested in hiphop. The game introduces them to a whole new realm, and it will help open the door of hiphop to expand to a whole new era. Millions of people will have this game, and it’s significant, whereas it becomes incorporated into the rap game. So it’s beautiful for all who are involved. It gets more people exposed to hiphop, even if they never really wanted to before.”
Eiht says he is constantly approached these days by “all kinds of people,” who have asked him to autograph the game. “Kids come up to me saying they heard my song in the game,” says Eiht. “It happens on the streets, just everywhere. Not just kids have the game, but even old people have the game.” Eiht adds, “There are also people who come up to me and tell me it’s a challenge to get to my character.”
It has all been very rewarding to the players of the game, as well as to Eiht, himself. He contends, “It’s another experience that people get to indulge in, especially when it incorporates hiphop, and one of their favorite rappers who represents the ‘hood.”
MC Eiht’s West Music signed an alliance with Native Records to distribute his current release, “Veterans Day,” through Penalty Associated Labels/Ryko. Ken M. Smith, president of Native Records states, "Eiht's current album, "Veterans Day," could also be the soundtrack for the game, because the tales that Eiht raps about on the album coincide in many ways with the story line of the game. Lovers of the game will definitely be lovers of "Veterans Day."

1102553873 - January 1, 1970 By : I just wanted to pay respect to a local lady who wasn't afraid to play West Coast music and unsigned artists that were hungry to be heard. You'll be missed Break-A-Dawn =(
MAITLAND, Fla. -- Orlando radio listeners are mourning the loss of a local morning show personality.
Complications from pregnancy killed Dawn Blackstone Fleming Wednesday morning, who used the on-air name "Break-A-Dawn," WESH NewsChannel 2 reported.
She was a newlywed and a new mom.
Break-A-Dawn was part of the "Wake-Up Posse" on the morning drive at 102 JAMZ. She handled community and entertainment news for the hip-hop station and used her talents to help dozens of charities in Central Florida.
Earnest James, the senior vice president at 102 JAMZ, said everyone at the station feels they've just lost a family member. Fleming was more than an on-air talent: She was the station's leader in community outreach and a sparkplug personality with a warm heart who will be sadly missed.
She was newly married and set to deliver her first child when doctors told her she was having trouble with dangerously high blood pressure. She went off the air and into the hospital last month. She delivered her new daughter just before Thanksgiving, but then lapsed into a coma.
"The birth of her child is what she gave her life for. So, it's important that I do my part to recognize Dawn as the heroine that she was," James said.
Just 31 years old, Fleming lost her battle Wednesday morning. Her co-workers are being offered grief counseling, and sympathy cards are likely to pour into the station, joining the dozens of thank-you notes and awards from the charitable organizations that benefited from Break-A-Dawn's weekly broadcasts that focused on people most in need.
Karen Yeager, who runs Place of Comfort in Longwood, said she'll remember Fleming not just for her radio broadcasts that helped her agency collect food and toys, but for her personal commitment to help struggling kids and families.
"She truly had the heart of a volunteer. How else to be remembered? She really has a legacy," she said.
On her station Web site's bio page, Break-A-Dawn wrote: "We are not promised tomorrow."
Her co-workers now understand that painful truth.
"Her way would have been to live fully for today," James said.
102 JAMZ has been flooded with calls about Fleming. Funeral arrangements are being made as her family struggles to cope. Station management said at least one of the services being planned will be open to the public.
One ray of light in all of this: Her new daughter, born premature, appears to be healthy and doing well.
