1088535771 - January 1, 1970 By : The Pedestrian is walkin’ it like he talks it on this hookladen, jeep ready album slated for release by Blak Ice Records. Third Degree, who hails from South Central Los Angeles, grew up living right around the corner from Dub C of Westside Connection. “I went to Hiphop High,” says Third. “Washington High School was where I came up. A lot of hiphop people have gone there, like Dub C, Crazy Tunes from The Maad Circle, YoYo, DJ Alladin, and Sir Jinx, who DJ’s for Xzibit, and more. Crenshaw High may have had the sports people locked up, but Washington has had the music people.” Third Degree is destined to be the next hiphop alumni to speak with authority.
With rhymes constantly flowing out of every pore of his being, Third is definitely at no loss for words. The album, which is largely produced by the musically eloquent Yabie, is tightly packed with 21 serious tracks, including the runaway single “Do My Thang.” This quotable album is consistent all the way through, with no fillers or throwaway tracks. “I like real writers who have subjects and topics,” he professes. “I’m a purist kind of guy.” Third points out that Yabie’s work “sounded like music, it didn’t just sound like beats. He had a whole band of people available to play guitar, bass, all that. He thinks in a very musical way.” In this manner, he compares Yabie to DJ Quik. “He’s got a unique style. I can’t quite figure out his formula.” The single, "Do My Thang," will be out soon.
The battle-ready rapper’s name came his basketball days. “We called ourselves the Burn Unit,” he says. “We had names like Thermostat, Third Degree and Lava Rock.” Third’s government name is Wayne Guillory. “Like guillotine. It’s French,” he explains. “All my people come from Louisiana.” Either way, the world is his. It’s Wayne’s world, as he’s young, gifted and black, and prolific to an extreme.
His father was a coach, who lost his life to cancer. “My mom was real concerned about me after he died. That year, she asked me what I wanted for Christmas, and I told her. Had my father lived, I would have definitely not gotten those turntables!” he reminisces, shaking his head with a smile. Third became obsessed with hiphop with gospel-like devotion, and he began interpreting the world through the mind of a rhymesman. It seemed that every event in life was suddenly transformed into a searing rhyme by the verbal prodigy.
The prolific Third notes, “The single “Do My Thang” is a way to introduce me to people. I felt it was representative of where I was coming from. It lets people know a couple things about me, and I feel it describes me,” explains Third.
“My raps give people another view of Los Angeles. People who don’t live here think it’s all either gangbanging or Hollywood. L.A. is not all about being a gangsta. I just wanted to make this record about the regular person in L.A,” he concedes. Third believes there’s a lot of pressure to rap about banging, because some of the earlier great L.A. rappers before them. “People who don’t even gangbang,” he points out. “I think rappers should talk about what they do. If you gangbang and you rap, talk about gangbangin’ in your rap. If you sell crack all day, talk about selling crack all day. Whatever it is that is you. That’s what “Do My Thang” is all about. Just be yourself. If it’s you, do it. If not, don’t do it.” He adds, “Some of my best friends bang. But that’s them. It just never occurred to me to do that.”
As far as his home front, Third’s neighborhood is well-known for being Crips territory. “NHC, Neighborhood Crips. Them and Watergate Crips. They’re kind of borderline,” he observes. “Slip from Comptons Most Wanted, he stayed in the Watergate for a while. As far as the NHC, Dub C, Cube and Crazy Tunes stayed there.” He comments that there’s just one little street that separates everybody.
The intersection on the album’s cover is the nearby corner of Imperial and Western. However, in many ways, Third’s songs reflect corners all over the country, so his rhymes hit home with those who are both near and far.
Jay Z and Ice-T may have “99 Problems,” but Third says he has “Problems” of his own. “The reason I wrote the song “Problems” is that for some reason, people always come talk to me about things they need to get off their chest. So I listen a lot. One day I was arguing with my mother, and that was one of the things that came out. I’m not saying don’t talk to me about your problems. I’m just saying come back in a while, because I have mine to figure out.” Some of Third’s own deepest, personal predicaments are revealed in the song, including the fact he has a handicapped brother.
The inspired “Stylistic” is one of Third’s favorite tracks on the album. “I was listening to “Betcha By Golly Wow,” and I like to make up words to songs, so that’s how that came about. It’s basically telling people I have a new style here in L.A.,” says Third. “I studied niggas’ style and found what not to do, it’s the total opposite, I rock it better than you, whoever you are niggas bite and get trophies, a Grammy for their best Tupac on Karaoke.”
“Hit This 40” is a party song, and it’s also an anti-gold diggers song. Its 40 proof melody came about much in the same way, but it comes from a Chaka Khan song called “Night In Tunisia,” which Third used that part for the song’s chorus. Going even deeper, he explains, “It’s actually a remake of a Coltrane song or something like that she was doing.”
Observes Third, “The culture of Los Angeles is gangs, and people get influenced by it a lot, like the white t-shirts and all, so it definitely isn’t all hip hop here. However, I can take you to places here that are definitely hiphop. But yes, a lot of it is gang culture here. People in the parks out here aren’t breaking and rapping against each other; it’s probably drinking and smoking weed, and a fight is going to break out any minute. But still, there is definitely a hiphop community in this city.” The disc’s determined track “The One” is Third’s way of saying, “I’m entirely here for hiphop.”
With “Favorite Shade Of Brown,” it’s all good, and love comes in all shades to Third.
“Eye Candy” features Pupa Don, one of the illest West Coast dancehall cats.
There are a slew of other radio driven songs on the album, and the Pedestrian is no doubt, walking tall. You’re now at that intersection of hiphop beats and masterful rhymes, as the Pedestrian is making his way through your speakers.

1093637342 - January 1, 1970 By : If you haven't already, here is your chance to sign the petition to free J.Dee of Da Lench Mob. Here's a press release:
This cry for freedom is one I pray that doesn't go un-heard. My name is DaSean "JDee" Cooper. I am an Original Member of DA LENCH MOB, a rap group founded by Ice Cube in the 1990's.I was the lead rapper in the group for our debut Platinum release titled, "Guerillas
In The Mist."
Upon our return home from Europe in the summer of 1993, I was falsely accused, tried and convicted of murder - a crime that I and 95% of Los Angeles (including the victim's family) know that I did not commit. My trial attorney had suffered a stroke prior to my trial
and subsequently he had a mild stroke. I was denied several constitutional rights and was tried and convicted based on rap lyrics and a 911 tape recording. There was no gun, no gun shot residue, no credible eyewitness and the only compelling witness
was instructed to stay hidden until the prosecution needed her. There was ineffective assistance of counsel, jury misconduct, prosecutorial misconduct and judicial misconduct. Hearsay evidence was illegally admitted and jurors were overheard in elevators
discussing the case before it was submitted for deliberation.
There is a retired L.A. Sheriff named Herb Giron who's known me for over two decades and he conducted his own investigation and knows that I'm not the real suspect shooter and culprit. My 14th,5th and 6th Amendment, Rights were violated. And I truly believe that "Music" was placed on trial and I was convicted of being black and a "gangsta rapper". I was denied any and all Black jurors...my jury consisted of 8 whites & 4 Asian-Americans. This was in 1994 - post L.A. uprising/Rodney King beating and during the O. J. Simpson pre-trial circus. I was denied bail in a non-capital case, which was a violation of my 8th Amendment Constitutional Right.
O'Shea "Ice Cube" Jackson left me for dead due to negative publicity. The record label, East-West/Time lawyers and law students to help me prevail in this fight for freedom. I've wrote several law firms who claim to do Pro-Bono work. But no one likes rappers; especially one who's as outspoken as myself. There are plenty of Federal & State violations and I am literally throwing myself at the mercy of this law school (and/or firm) to please get involved in my fight for my life.
I've been in touch with the retired sheriff (Giron), this past Feb.2003 and he's willing to help. I've tried everything in my power and I've even located 3 new eyewitnesses who were present the night the crime was committed.
As of this writing certain artists are expressing their concerns. However, talk is extremely cheap and I'm in need of serious help. Please feel free to write me at the address below with any help or suggestions. Comments are welcomed also.
May Our Creator Bless You All! Peace!

1094495186 - January 1, 1970 By : I had heard that 98.9 More FM in San Diego had been bought out and their playlist was changed to fit the usual format. So, as I got it confirmed, the homie Angel from WCRydaz posted this:
They got bought off and I don't blame it on the buyer, blame it on the seller. Dude sold out, he didn't even know how much he was helping underground artist. All day you could hear: Mitchy Slick, Jayo Felony, Bad Azz, Damu, Mr. Lil-One, Shysti, Mr. Shadow, Knightowl, Lil' Rob, Psycho Realm, Cypress Hill, Damizza, as well as Kurupt, Daz, old Snoop Dogg, WSC, Ice Cube, WC, Knocturnal, Roscoe, Quik, E-40, Sly Boogy, Guerilla Black, and so on, were also on heavy rotation.
Now all you hear is Usher, Lil' Jon, Ciara, Nelly, and shit they never played before.
i've personaly talked to their dj's like billy blast, seize, and yesi ortiz. they told me they arnt even allowed to play what they want and that every complaint they get they record it and show it to management in hopes that they will change back. so its not their fault.
Us here at DubCNN, Angel and so many more ask you to call (619)230-0189 or log on to their chat room 989morefm.com and if the staff is in there complain!!!!!!!
I thank Angel for the info and the write up. This was one of the few media outlets that showed love to the West Coast and now it's gone. We urge you to call and complain. They were starting a trend and it got cut short. Call! E-Mail! Anything!

1097602507 - January 1, 1970 By : MTV.com have some news up on Ice Cube. Check it out below:
Shooting the $118 million "XXX: State of the Union" has been a different sort of movie experience for Ice Cube.
"This movie's taking up a lot of time," the rapper said during a break at a soundstage last week.
Between training for the role and shooting all summer in Baltimore, Los Angeles and Washington, D.C., Cube has had little opportunity to work at his other job. An album planned for late '04 is now looking like a fall 2005 release (see "Ice Cube Ready To Work On Solo LP, Still In Talks With Dre").
In the meantime, Cube has found the time to do one track and hopes to do another before his "XXX" sequel hits theaters.
"I did a single with Lil Jon. He from the dirty dirty, so it's gotta be gutter. He flew out here and we put it down. I think he's doin' a rock version of it. It's called 'The Real N---a Roll Call,' so we had to do it right."
The song, which has been called "Roll Call" on mixtapes, will be featured on Jon's Crunk Juice, due November 16 (see "Lil Jon Mixing Up A Potent New Batch Of Crunk Juice"). Cube and Jon are also talking about teaming to do a song for the "XXX: State of the Union" soundtrack.
"I want something hard," Cube said. "So we been kinda putting our brains together trying to come up with it."
But while Cube's been hitting it off with Jon, talks regarding teaming up with Dr. Dre have fizzled.
"I don't know if that situation is gonna work out, but who knows," said Cube, who was poised to record with Dre and sign to the producer's Aftermath imprint (see "Dr. Dre To Produce Next Ice Cube Record"). "Dre got real busy last year, and the year before that he dropped 50. So I'm doing my thing, he doing his. I'd love to [work with] him."
On the movie front, Cube can next be seen alongside Jay Mohr and Nia Long in "Are We There Yet?," opening January 28. "I play a bachelor who don't like kids, [and I'm] trying to get with their mother, and of course they don't like me," Cube said. "So we kind of meet in the middle and by the end of the day we're at each other's throats."
"XXX: State of the Union" follows a few months later, on May 13.

1119384148 - January 1, 1970 By : June 20, 2005 (Los Angeles, CA) Multi-platinum rap producer DJ Muggs has joined forces with critically acclaimed hip-hop duo Self-Scientific and formed a new label, Angeles Records. Angeles is the latest addition to Fontana Distribution, the independent distribution division of Universal Music Group (UMG), the world’s leading music company. Initial releases will include DJ Muggs vs. GZA, a unique collaboration between Muggs and Wu Tang Clan’s GZA. The second release, Change, is the much-anticipated follow-up LP by one of LA’s most talented, but underexposed groups, Self-Scientific. Both albums are due out in October.
“The industry has changed profoundly over the past decade,” explains Chace, the MC of Self-Scientific, about why they decided to ink a label deal of their own. “The majors aren’t interested in --or prepared to-- deal with developing acts anymore.”
“That’s where we come in,” explains Muggs, and adds that while most indie hip-hop labels today are putting out very left of center music, Angeles is about “true, pure, quality hip-hop.”
“Muggs and Self-Scientific are true entrepreneurs in every sense of the word,” notes Steve Pritchitt, General Manager of Fontana, “we are thrilled that they have chosen to be part of the Fontana family.”
Most known for his seminal work as the DJ and producer behind the legendary rap group Cypress Hill, Muggs has worked alongside rap heavyweights from Dr. Dre, Wyclef, Mobb Deep, GZA, and RZA, to name a few. Indeed with such an extensive credo, Muggs is a heavyweight himself. Also part of the group the Soul Assassins, Muggs today has his own radio show on Sirius Satellite on Shade 45 called “Mash-Up Radio” and tours with multi-platinum groups like Blink 182. Most recently, Muggs scored one scene in the new Ice Cube movie "XXX.”
Self-Scientific, composed of Chace Infinite and producer DJ Khalil, burst on the scene with their much lauded LP, The Self Science. Since then, Khalil, long heralded as one of L.A.'s best up and coming producers, has kept busy working with Dr. Dre and Aftermath Records on a production deal. MC Chace can be heard on Sway and Tech’s latest album Back to Basics and Talib Kweli’s Beautiful Mixtape Vol. 1. The duo released a compilation earlier this year called Gods and Gangstas.

1119610349 - January 1, 1970 By : YinSumi Press, the world’s first publishing house dedicated to documenting the social and political trends in the Hip Hop sub culture, is proud to announce that author Adisa Banjoko, DJ Mike Relm and Balance will release a powerful CD to accompany the release of “Lyrical Swords Vol. 2: Westside Rebellion”. The book and CD will drop Oct., 1st 2005 on YinSumi Press. To download a sample MP3 of Adisa Banjoko’s Harvard lecture on “Islam, Hip Hop and Black America” featuring Balance w/ various beats and blends by DJ Relm: LISTEN HERE!!
“Lyrical Swords Vol. 2: Westside Rebellion” looks at the difference in philosophy and strategy between Hip Hop on the east coast and west coast. “People forget that the west coast is the home of the Black Panthers and the Brown Beret’s. When the courts fail to serve justice to the people out west, we riot. That’s why Tupac said ‘Only in Cali do we riot not rally, so live and die’. From Ice Cube to Tupac, Paris and Kam, we have a ton of strong conscious rappers. But the standard myth is that the only conscious rappers come from the east. No doubt our east coast brothers set the standard. But like everything else in Hip Hop, we have our own unique way of being politically active.”
Additional tracks from Balance and San Jose’s Jay the Butcher and Shamako Noble be featured on the CD for “Lyrical Swords Vol. 2: Westside Rebellion”.
“In truth, the CD is a tribute to Keith LeBlanc’s “No Sell Out” from back in 1983. It’s a tribute to Malcolm X and LeBlanc. When we tell you that you have not heard anything like this before, we mean it. The artistry by which Relm rocked the blends of my lecture with Hip Hop is beyond amazing. To be on the same team as Balance on a mixtape is just an honor in itself. When it comes to ‘Lyrical Swords Volume 2: Westside Rebellion’, people can either be down now, or bow down later. But the rebellion is on!!” said Banjoko.
In addition the book “Lyrical Swords Vol. 2: Westside Rebellion” will feature previously unreleased interviews from the late 80’s and early 90’s with artists such as Master P, Mac Mall, Run D.M.C. and Jam Master Jay, Luniz, Paris, Young Black Teenagers, Slick Rick, Tragedy Khadafi, Spice One, Gangstarr, and many others.
Other dynamic social and political commentary on issues facing today’s youth will also be included. A sample MP3 of DJ Mike Relm’s mix can be heard right now at www.netweed.com/lyricalswords!!

1121198223 - January 1, 1970 By : "I'm from the Eastside of Cleveland. Grew up in this spot called 'The Hill,' directly across from the projects. I was a young cat, seeing everything that was going on. My mama would tell me, 'Don't take your ass across the street.' But I was a kid, you know, so I was fascinated. Back then it was real heavy with the crack and the guns and everything. Cleveland ain't nothing but a big ghetto anyway, man."
That environment also provided the groundwork for Ray Cash the MC. "I got into Hip-Hop from hanging around the older dudes. Listening to Scarface. Listening to NWA. The shit they were talking about, the guys I hung around with were actually doing. When I got to high school, I would dib and dabble with it. My man would beat on the table and I'd bust a freestyle. People would say, 'Man, you can really rap.' But I'd say 'Get the fuck outta here.' But when Jay-Z came through Cleveland for the Hard Knock Life tour, that made me wanna rap for real. I was always a Jay fan, but seeing him be himself on stage, so cool, so laid back. He was just doing him. To see somebody do him and see people respond to it. That's power right there. It just clicked with me."
Ray talks about his early music influences, "When I came up people just cared about putting out good music. Didn't seem like they were hung up on whether they sold a million the first week. You don't get that kind of feel no more. The other day I was watching videos with three of my dudes when 'Big Poppa' came on. And everybody just stared like they were in a daze. You miss it. A cat telling you some real honest shit. You don't hear that no more. And that's part of why my approach is the way it is. A lot of people only know what's on the radio, and they accept it. I don't wanna just accept it."
He certainly doesn't accept it on C.O.D.: Cash On Delivery, a triumphant debut propelled by beat-smiths like Rockwilder, Rick Rock and Knoxxxx. From the rambunctious "The Bomb" and the playfully humorous "Sex Appeal" to the poignant hometown statement "Payback," Ray Cash hits the worn out rap scene with a mainline hit of reality. Then there's the incendiary "Fuck AmeriKKKa," a record that recalls rap history at its middle-fingered best, combining the defiance of Ice Cube with the street prophet's poetic lens of young Nas.
"Niggas don't let they nuts hang no more. It's rap: say what the fuck you wanna say. Luke said it. Cube said it. Man, I'm from Cleveland, one of the worst cities to live in. We're at the bottom of the barrel. The budget's fucked up. Can't nobody get a job. And I'm talking about cats in high school who just wanna work at Footlocker. So cats resort to doing whatever they gotta do. 'Fuck AmeriKKKa' was just my way of saying that what you, the system, thinks is priority, ain't the priority. We the priority. We the ones hurting. I ain't no big political cat, but I watch the news. I see what's going on. I walk the streets. I can see what's fucked up. I can see what's real."
Here's Real Audio Stream of his first single "Sex Appeal."
Look for an Interview with Ray Cash very soon.

1123199785 - January 1, 1970 By : Not only do we introduce you to the newest talents out, but you know we gotta keep you updated on the OG's, the veterans, the very first ones to put it down for the West Coast.
E-A Ski is one of these veterans that has been in the game for almost 20 years, representing for Oakland, CA. Having had very bad luck with his labels, he's yet to release an official solo album. 2006 could be his year though. After being pushed back for years, his highly anticipated album "Apply Pressure" is now completed and scheduled for a 2006 release.
He just unleashed a new summer single to the radio stations, a collaboration with fellow Oakland legend Too $hort, called "The Resume". I caught up with E-A Ski to speak about the new single and the album.
"Basically alotta cats don't understand the history of this music thang. You got to have a resume. It's alotta cats rappin' for 2 years and they think that makes them reptable, cause they homeboys tell them they hot. Too Short and me have had hits.", he said, explaining the concept of "The Resume".
"I been here for 20 years, Short been here for 25 years! So it was only right, bein' from Oakland, to do this song. I couldn't have been valid if I didn't do somethin' with Too Short, to represent Oakland. Too Short was the one that made it hot to be able to talk about where you from. I called the record "Resume" so they would know we been holdin' it down, and anybody who hates on us gotta be out they mind. Half these cats ain't gone have careers long as us."
But the main question remains, when will we see "Apply Pressure" in stores? "It's coming in 2006 man. I got my own label, I.M.G. Music, and I'm in talks with different companies. It's gonna come out when everything is ready and I'm in a good position."
Having waited for so long, Ski has been relentlessly recording new material throughout the years. "The album I got now is a complete new record from the record I had in 2003. The vibe has changed. With time, things change, you gotta be able to reinvent yourself, that's what it's about. I've had to change the album to fit what I'm doin' right now. On the single, "Resume", I speak on cats that think that making a hit record is an accident. They think it's easy to make a "Blast If I Have To", that it's easy to make a record with Dr. Dre or Ice Cube."
"It's not hard for me to put a record out", Ski says. "It's just that I've been here a long time and I don't HAVE to put a record out. I want to have it right. I'm here to make sure my record is pushed right. I want to have the best shot and be able to bring in good sales. I'm not going to put out a record and see no return. I'm an artist and producer, so I gotta make sure everything sounds right.".
So is that time now? "Right now I'm feeling good about it. I'm feeling comfortable with my situation. The album is sounding good. I mean I can't distribute the record myself. I can't market a album myself. All I can do is give you my records. I need to have everything right! Just rushing an album and putting it out like that, is like throwing a new born baby in the garbage. That's unacceptable! I don't put out music just to be a rapper! I'm trying to make music to move the world. If I'm not in the right position, I don't want to do it."
On to the facts. "Apply Pressure" is entirely produced by E-A Ski and CMT, and features the likes of Ice Cube, MC Ren, Kay Slay, Too Short, Royce Da 5'9, Jae Millz, E-40, Keak Da Sneak, B-Legit, The Frontline, B.O.X. amongst others.

1126012136 - January 1, 1970 By : In 2003 Ice Cube told the world he was teaming up with Dr. Dre on Aftermath Records to record a "comeback LP," unfortunately that never happened. MTV has reported that Cube has enlisted the aid of Lil Jon for production on his upcoming album. Lil Jon tells MTV that he's recorded seven new tracks with "AmeriKKKa's Most Wanted" and is helping him find a label for the release : "On the Crunk Juice album, we did 'Real N---a Roll Call' [with Cube], I grew up on N.W.A — N.W.A and Too Short were my favorite groups. So to just be in the studio, and for him to listen to me and let me guide him, ask me what I think ... I still can't believe I'm cool with Cube like that, 'cause that's Ice Cube."
Lil Jon went on to say that the new Cube sounds a lot like vintage, early '90s Cube, from the AmeriKKKa's Most Wanted/ Death Certificate era. He also stated that he and Cube already have a song they want to release to the public soon : "We got the first single, it's Ice Cube and Snoop, called 'Got a Lot of That,' as soon as you hear the beat, you gonna start dancing. And he's got this song called 'Combat' for anybody who does any type of sports — like if you play football, it's gonna get you amped up to get in the game. We're looking for a label — holla at us. We're going to probably put a record out and let the labels come to us."
In other Lil Jon and westcoast news he has been in the lab with Too Short working on his new LP, : "Short is like 'Uncle Short, Short was the first person in the rap game to believe in me and give me a chance as an artist. I was signed to Short's label and he let me out of the contract with no problems — he let me do my thing. Plus, he was always there for me whenever I needed him to get on some records."
Too Short's as yet untitled new LP is set to have Jazze Pha producing half of the tracks and Jon doing most of the rest. As usual dubcnn will be back with more news and audio as we have it. And labels...i dont need to tell you...get Cube signed and lets get this record out.

1126952876 - January 1, 1970 By : As we have been reporting over the past 8 weeks, Warren G is scheduled to release his fifth studio CD, "In The Mid-Nite Hour," on October 11, 2005. The album, his first solo release in five years, has the single "Get U Down," featuring B Real and Watts-based soul singers Side Effect which is currently blazing radio including Power 106 and The Beat. According to Warren G the album is a portrayal of Warren G’s musical take of what happens as the clock ticks past the big one-two: "A lot of things go on in the midnight hour, but I stayed up in the midnight hour making this record. I touch on everything and it's bundled in one big ball of funk."
With a 2005 edge to his trademark smoothed-out sound, the G child stays on the same course that led him to gold and platinum CD success, those classic hits "Regulate," "This DJ" and "I Want It All."
Along with Warren on "In The Mid-Nite Hour," are other guest collaborators including Raphael Saadiq, young rising star, Aftermath’s Bishop Lamont, G Funk Productions’ Frank Lee White (the latter two intro-ed to Warren by half-brother Dr. Dre), G Funk Productions’ Chuck Taylor, and Chevy Jones. Chop and screw rap expert Mike Jones gets down with Warren and watches his back on "In Case Some Sh$# Go Down, the album’s second single.
The aforementioned single, "Get U Down," tackles a myriad of issues, from black-onbrown violence in Los Angeles to our military entanglements in the Middle East, and a special version, "Get U Down Part 2" featuring a special dedication to Hurricane Katrina
victims as well as guest spots by Snoop Dogg and Ice Cube, reminding people to stay strong and positive. Details are currently being worked out so that proceeds from various downloads of "Part 2" will go to the Red Cross to help Katrina aid relief efforts: "A lot of people aren’t really touching on what’s going on and they gotta wake up, even though we go through hard times you still have to smile, know that God is gonna work it out. That’s for the victims of Katrina and everybody around the world that’s going through stressful times."
Kevin Hunter will direct the "Get U Down Part 2" video which will be shot next week in different Cali locales with Warren G, B Real, Snoop and Cube. Paul Hunter will then shoot, "In Case Some Sh$# Go Down" shortly after that.

Well i couldnt let you guys down so i got the exclusive mp3 of the new version! Its hot and as we said in the previous update is a special dedication to Hurricane Katrina victims, reminding people to stay strong and positive. Details are currently being worked out so that proceeds from various downloads of "Part 2" will go to the Red Cross to help Katrina aid relief efforts:
"A lot of people aren’t really touching on what’s going on and they gotta wake up, even though we go through hard times you still have to smile, know that God is gonna work it out.
Until then, enjoy the dubcnn exclusive audio of track! DJ's please get this on your playlists, support Warren G's forthcoming album "In The Mid-Nite Hour," due for release on October 11, 2005.

1129553182 - January 1, 1970 By : After a long hiatus Ice Cube is back on your radio's. He returns with two tracks, "Chrome & Paint" which features fellow veteran and Westside Connection member WC and "A Lotta That" which features Snoop Dogg. Both records are currently getting spins on radio across L.A on Power 106. We have a radio rip of "Chrome & Paint" which features WC for your listening pleasure as i've had nothing but requests to hear it all week! With thanks to the dubcnn forums own, NeoSoul. Remember this is a Radio Rip, it's just so you can hear the new Ice Cube if you are not in the area!
Ice Cube - Chrome & Paint (Feat. WC)
In related news Ice Cube was in Las Vegas on October 9th shooting a video for this very track. He was in town to perform at the Lowrider Magazine 2005 Super Show at Cashman Field Center and utilised the Vegas backdrop. According to Matt Alvarez, Ice Cube's partner in his Cube Vision company, The Cashman show drew hundreds of lowered and chopped cars equipped with special hydraulics and adorned with murals and was the initial location for the shoot, the video was then expected to shift to the Fremont Street Experience for additional filming, requiring a shutdown of Casino Center Boulevard between Carson and Ogden streets. Three camera crews were expected to catch all the action, with Marcus Raboy, who directed Cube in the 2002 comedy "The Friday After Next," called the shots for the video, which should hit MTV, BET etc later in the month. (LV Review Journal)
Ice Cube has opted to call his new album "Laugh Now, Cry Later." More news and audio when we get it!

1135369030 - January 1, 1970 By : Chino XL is at last ready to release his long-awaited "Poison Pen" album on January 31st 2006. The inspired two-disc set has been in the works now for nearly two years, in which time, Chino says he has had offers of a major deal from Dr. Dre at his Aftermath label as well as a G-Unit contract offering. He has however opted to take his "Poison Pen" on a free and independent basis. He states that it was a major consideration when releasing the album, which is being released by the Activate label, that he wants to make a passionately artistic statement and refuses to be subjected to any outside censorship or control by major label executives:
"We gave Chino a budget, and let him do his thing. Chino delivered an unfiltered, mindbending stream of consciousness statement built on strong songs and hooks." says Jay Warsinske. (Activate label CEO who is releasing the album worldwide.
The album comprises of 18 tracks (including 2 bonus tracks) and feaures special collaborations with Killah Priest (Wu Tang), The Beatnuts, Proof of D-12 and other special guests. The 2CD package is available in a Limited Edition Silver Metallic Foil Cover, enhanced with extras that include a music video and two hidden bonus tracks, including the dramatic buzz track "Nunca". Each album will be personally autographed with a silver ‘poison’ pen by Chino XL himself. As an extra feature the disc, when inserted to a computer, will open up a plethora of extras that surround Chino’s sometimes controversial lyrics that are quite often the subject of discussion by hiphop fans. The second disc is a Special DJ MIX version of the album by L.A.’s Power 106 Mr. Choc, in which Chino also recounts stories behind the making of the tracks, and the soul searching he did when recording this introspective new album: "This is me at my most honest, most heartfelt and most uncompromising when it comes to what’s on my mind" says Chino.
Comprising of all new songs this dramatic, undiluted and daringly bold, essential album includes "Wordsmith," "Beastin’" featuring Killah Priest - which was produced by Carlos Bess, "Even If It Kills Me" - about the perils of the rap lifestyle, produced by One Eye (Ice Cube, Ruff Ryders), "Don’t Fail Me Now" featuring Psycho Les of the Beatnuts and Sin Gutta - produced by Byrd, "Can’t Change Me," and the leadoff track, "All I Wanna Do...(Bout Nothin’)."
The limited edition signed collectors package is limited to the first run and will be available January 31, 2006. Chino XL says: "I hope that in the New Year, hiphop will regain a certain amount of integrity in the current overly corporate state of affairs. Hopefully, we will be able to focus on the artistry again. The machine should not be larger than the architects who create the music."
As ever we have exclusive audio from the project available below, check it out and leave feedback over at the forum. Additional background, including booking information on Chino XL’s upcoming "Poison Pen" Tour will be available at the Offical Site.

1138314878 - January 1, 1970 By : Emerging out of Long Beach California comes a duo with an existing buzz and a hunger for more. Dangerous Goodz were introduced to me last year by a good friend of mine at Songbuz Magazine and i did a small article on the album and premiered a track off their debut album, "Change Gone Come". Since then the group have had the streets of L.A. buzzing and successfully pushed thousands of units out the back of the truck. The duo compises of Qwest (Earl Siler) and Outwest (Jonathan Grier) who both grew up on hip-hop listening to a collective of artists such as Run DMC, N.W.A., L.L. Cool J, Ice Cube, Big Daddy Kane, EPMD & Ice T.
This love of music dug deeper than the average listener, from early on they they learned to appreciate music regardless of which coast it was coming from.
The two met upon entering 5th grade and as ever at that age a friendship developed which over time has formed into a long-term friendship that has seen out many years. In that time the pair have partaken in the various elements of hip-hop such as break-dancing & free-styling. From the outset the love of the lifestyle and culture had the two convinced of their career calling; music. Soon they got together during recess to battle one another for what they called, "King of the School." Elementary soon became Junior High and later High School; as the two grew closer the rhymes grew doper. A decade on and several groups later the pair formed Dangerous Goodz in 2003. The process of recording their debut album "Change Gone Come," saw them rack up 46 songs giving them the chance to select the best material. 22 tracks made the cut and the album was borne. With production from Space Age, Wutzhiznayme, Tony Bravoe & Quake they managed to create a sound that put them in a niche. Since the album release the group has had the pleasure to perform in the company of various well known, established artists such as Snoop Dogg, Too Short, Mausberg & Tyrese Gibson to name a few. As if that wasn't enough they have also had their music featured in movies including "Bank Brothers," & "I Accidentally Domed Your Son."
With all that packed into a busy 2005 the duo have now set their sights on an even more successful 2006 and have allowed us to release three tracks from their debut for you the readers to enjoy. Please take some time to listen to the music and drop feedback over at our forum. We will have more news and audio from the duo over the coming months.

1140624655 - January 1, 1970 By : Ice Cube has been making a strong comeback to the music business lately with a new single getting radio play, a new album in the works, a tour planned, and a couple other side projects cooking. If this wasn't enough, the brainiac also produced the upcoming Fox Networks series "Black.White.". The reality show, which premieres March 8th, is about one white and one black family who come together under one roof in Los Angeles as they prepare to go out in the world as the other race.
Ice Cube has also been secured to do the official theme song for the show, entitled "Race Card". And known for being a political rapper, Ice Cube was definitely the right person chosen.
"Dont believe the hype, everything in the world aint black and white / everybody aint a stereotype / just because I look wrong I'm about to do right", Cube raps in the title song, which also includes his sharp rejection of an oft-cited phrase: "Did you get your race card? Yo, what the hell is a race card?"
In support of the documentary, Ice Cube also shot a video for the song. A lot of talk, lets see and hear the outcome, as Dubcnn has both the video and audio of "Race Card" below. Download it and hit the forum with some feedback!

In related news, the official Ice Cube website recently added the video for Ice Cube's song "Chrome & Paint" to the website. The song features WC and is Cube's street single off "Laugh Now, Cry Later", due out June 6th.

In Volume Three he apologises for the extra wait for this installment however for more than good reason. My thoughts and prayers go out to M Dogg, his uncle and family at this time and i am sure the dubcnn readership shares in my comments. M Dogg has however taken some time to compile a catalogue of "Random Thoughts" regarding the westcoast. He touches on topics including E-40 and the "Hyphy" phenomenon, Ice Cube and his independent route, The Game, Warren G, Ras Kass, Xzibit, Spider Loc and Bishop Lamont and his ticket to superstardom as well as a much more!

1141310256 - January 1, 1970 By : DJ Skee is back alongside Mister Cartoon to present the third installment of the official "Joker Brand Mixtape," this time hosted by none other than the West Coast's next mega-star, and dubcnn regular Omar Cruz - FKA Blunts LLA. The latest mixtape, entitled "Who Has The Last Laugh Now," replaces the extremely successful "Joker Brand - Tears Of A Clown" line and brings a new twist to the series, this time the mixtapes integrate various Hip-Hop tracks with the original sample that each song was created from. For example, you can hear Bootsy Collin's (Parliament) "Whats A Telephone Bill" mixed into 2Pac's classic "Str8 Ballin" and The Isley Brothers "Footsteps In The Dark" mixed with its classic Hip-Hop counterpart; Ice Cube's "Today Was A Good Day."
Due to the amount of work done to put this compilation together and DJ Skee's impressive record collection, there is no tracklisting for the CD which features of 30 tracks. As Omar Cruz states on the CD: "Either you know, or you don't!"
DJ Skee talks further on the release stating: "The mixtape has a ton of uncredited samples in it, ranging from everyone from the P Funk movement to Barbara Streisand - I mean even A&R's who worked on some of these records didn't even know what the original sample was - this CD is truly an example of diggin' in tha crates."
The mixtape was made available last week exclusively at the Joker Brand booth in Las Vegas, the limited first edition of 10,000 copies became out of stock within 2 days. Everyone else will half to stay tuned for the official version dropping in the streets within the next few weeks.
As ever we have some audio from the release for you to enjoy, thanks to DJ Skee for allowing us to present the media below. The two tracks are the afforementioned Ice Cube & 2 Pac sample examples from the mixtape.
Boosty Collins Vs Tupac - Str8 Ballin (Sample: "Whats A Telephone Bill")

1141312540 - January 1, 1970 By : Another day another exclusive. Today we have the honour of presenting exclusive Video Footage of the Ice Cube "Laugh Now, Cry Later" listening party which we attended on February 28th 2006 at SIR Studios. We were among the world's press invited to a private listening party for Ice Cube's latest solo release. The party was incredible, the venue, the support shown by artists and press alike; but most importantly the music was the focal point and it believe us when we say - it did not disappoint. The event was hosted by the man himself, Ice Cube who even took time out to speak on camera with dubcnn for an Exclusive Mini Interview where he discusses the album.
Artists including Nate Dogg, W.C. and Murs were in attendence as well as the Cali Untouchable DJ's DJ Strong & DJ Warrior. The footage and pictures we have from the event are available below in our exclusive gallery, where you can find the tracklist for "Laugh Now, Cry Later", a report of the event and the music, tracks to listen to from the album and much more. Do not miss out on this footage, you will not be dissapointed. 1144316866 - January 1, 1970 By : As Dubcnn previously reported, Tha Dogg Pound are getting ready to drop their new album entitled "Cali Iz Active" on June 27th. We recently premiered the self titled single from the album, "Cali Iz Active", featuring Snoop Dogg with production by Battlecat. The promotion for the album will be starting in the next couple of weeks, so you will definitely read and hear a lot about this album right here on Dubcnn. Here is the official press release:
(April 4, 2006) - Los Angeles, CA - It was over ten years ago that Tha Dogg Pound laced the music world with their multiplatinum-selling debut album, Dogg Food. With Bigg Snoop Dogg again at the helm along with Daz Dillinger and Kurupt a.k.a. Young Gotti, the bangin' and much-anticipated new disc CALI IZ ACTIVE is re-energizing the Golden State music movement and galvanizing the West Coast.
"We just came back together and made a classic Dogg Pound gangsta album," says Daz Dillinger. "Some of the original G sounds with a new twist, new millennium G shit!" adds Kurupt.
Doggy Style Records in conjunction with KOCH Records will release Tha Dogg Pound's new album, "Cali Iz Active", on June 27, 2006. The CD follows Snoop's "Welcome to Tha Chuuch - Da Album", which contained the Dogg Pound heater, "Real Soon."
This summer, Tha Dogg Pound will open for Ice Cube in a national tour which is set to kick off on April 20th in Anaheim, CA and run through June. The West Coast bill is sure to be one of the hottest tickets around.
Besides Daz and Kurupt spittin' fire on the mic, the new album features Tha Dogg Pound family (Snoop Dogg, RBX, Soopafly, and Bad Azz). Also appearing are B-Real, Busta Rhymes, David Banner, Paul Wall and producing legends Battlecat, Fredwreck, The Alchemist, Swizz Beatz, Jazzy Phae and Sean 'P. Diddy' Combs. "A lot of people came together to make this Dogg Pound record the biggest and best it can be, and with Snoop's leadership we can never go wrong," says Kurupt.
"I'm like the quarterback," says Snoop Dogg, "putting the team together, gluing it together. I'm the one that puts everything in the proper perspective. Get everyone thinking alike, moving alike, loving alike. Let everybody know that it's built on love first. If we love each first, the music will kick right in."
Tha Dogg Pound album's long list of hardcore cuts will be strong contenders for heavy national radio rotation-- like the first single, the Battlecat-produced and soon-to-be classic, "Cali Iz Active," producer Ryan Leslie's contribution "Heavyweights," and "Dogg Pound Gangstaz" produced by The Alchemist.
"I'm letting everybody know that the West Coast is definitely making a strong comeback," says Snoop Dogg. "Tha Dogg Pound sound is fresh and fly. It's a beautiful thing for me to be able to work with them, and when we drop this album it's gonna shake the whole game up! Chuuch."

1144399604 - January 1, 1970 By : After countless unofficial and a semi-official Remix of E-40's hit single "Tell Me When To Go", we now finally get to hear the official version of the Remix. In addition to Kanye West, E-40 also secured Ice Cube for a verse. Kanye's verse is the same as the one from the previous Remix, but this time around we have the brainiac Ice Cube on the last verse who replaced The Game to do the official Remix.
He proves he still got it and he spits a fresh 16 over the same Lil' Jon beat. Cube has been making a strong comeback to Hip Hop lately, it's almost as if he pops up on new songs every week. It's always beautiful to see rappers from LA and The Bay connect with eachother, especially two vets like 40 and Cube. Hopefully E-40 will follow up with a Bay Area anthem too.
The regular version is still hot on the streets and also doing good in the mainstream. The song made it on #10 on BET's "106 & Park" countdown earlier this week. That's for the moment, Dubcnn has the audio of the Remix:
E-40 Feat. Kanye West & Ice Cube - Tell Me When To Go (Remix)
Stick around on Dubcnn for an exclusive feature on E-40 in the next couple of days.

1144497994 - January 1, 1970 By : Dubcnn as you will all know has been keeping you updated better than any other outlet on the highly anticpiated new album from Ice Cube entitled; "Laugh Now, Cry Later". Having been updating you all on the release since last year we have steadily released audio from the project and even spoke with Ice Cube in February at SIR Studios about the album when we were among the world's press invited to a private listening party for the new album. If you missed that then check out our exclusive "Laugh Now Cry Later" Listening Party Feature page to catch up.
The album is still due for release on 6-6-6 (June 6th 2006) and as ever the single, which we premiered in February (Why We Thugs) which is produced by Scott Storch, now has a video; and let us assure you this may be an independent release however Ice Cube knows exactly what to draw the masses; this video is far from the typical independent project; look for cameos from Mike Epps, W.C. and many more.
The video takes its backdrop in Los Angeles, Houston & New York and sees the videography drawing heavily from Ice Cube's lyrics; you even see Cube sporting a 'Grill' in Houston.
Ice Cube - Why We Thugs (Video)
This is available in m4v format so get it on your iPod's or enjoy in Windows Media Player. Drop your thoughts on the video at the forum where the video originated!
